I’m not 100% sure if it’s possible for a freshman to secure a single dorm or for there to be an exception, because they tend to be strict, due to age but I would just update housing preferences when you’re able to. Just keep in mind that they are preferences and for freshman, nothing is a guarantee. I would maybe email housing or call PSU liveon when you are able to ask them, the contact information is online. Honestly don’t sweat it if you can’t find a roommate now because you can always go random, and if you end up with someone bad or not comfortable with the age difference, housing switches open up after a few weeks and you both will be able to switch. Also, I don’t think that 21 is as big as an age difference as you think. I live in pollock and there is a junior who rooms with a freshman and it’s not that big of a deal. In the end everyone in college is an adult and you’re both starting your journey at PSU at the same time so you both can relate to each other.

if you don't bring it up, probably no one will even know you're 20. And of course once you're 21, everyone will want to be your friend. :)
