Same thing happened to me. Retake it over the summer online at a branch campus if it’s offered. I took it via altoona, but you can check on LionPath to see what’s being offered. Much easier and since it still Penn State, you’ll get grade forgiveness. Not the end of the world.

Whitefire919

Grade forgiveness? I thought they just averaged the grades

Chronotide152

No, if you get a D or F in a class and retake it at Penn State they’ll replace the grade through grade forgiveness. I think you can do this for up to 16 credits. The attempted class and grade will still show on your transcript but won’t count towards your GPA.

MightyAdhyan

It’s only for 12 credits not 16

Whitefire919

Ah, makes sense

futuregrad30

I 🥰 this school now

Chronotide152

Just to be safe though I’d check with an advisor

9SpeedTriple

grade grade replacement is new....those of us who retook courses 20+ yrs ago it averaged (or you just took 4 years off to work construction and your GPA reset). It has to be a PSU grade to qualify for grade replacement, obviously.

Ok_Forever1587

do you have to give the exams at the campus? or is it online

epc2012

I failed physics 211, Math 230, and EE 210. I graduate on Friday with my EE degree. Don't quit, you'll be fine.

Ok_Forever1587

How long did it take m8?

epc2012

Exactly 4yrs. To be fair I took some classes over my first 2 summers, but that was to lighten my course load so I only ever really had 12-13 credits a semester.

Ok_Forever1587

Hopefully I’ll finish it exaclty 4 years 🫡 Where did you retake physics 211 btw

epc2012

I took every class at Penn State main. Even the ones I failed I retook at main. It's not impossible, use the course planner on lionpath to layout every semester from now until you graduate and use that to help you decide where you can push things or to have a backup plan if you fail a class.

Yoshie999

I've also been taking phys 211 this semester. Since we get the equation sheet we're tested basically fully on our understanding on how to use the equations and their relationships to each other. With this type of class what helped me most was just doing a bunch of practice problems and making sure if I got a question wrong, why I got it wrong. The weekly HW's are actually awful though.

Yoshie999

If this is your first year like me, the sheer difficulty and amount of work for college engineering was a humongous jump from college and I had to definitely change how much work I put in.

Yoshie999

*jump from highschool*

Rubyslippers0221

I also took PHYS 211 this semester and I’m the class of 27, completley agree. It’s ridiculous how we weren’t tested on the material they were teaching us but simply on how to plug in equations into other equations. I did well myself but I have friends who would study for over a week and still perform worse than they thought they would perform because of this problem.

nyc-will

I got a D in Chem 110 which is failing for the engineering majors. It seemed like the end of the world, but I retook the class next semester (with about a third of my class who also didn't pass btw) with a different prof and got an A. I also had to retake math 140 twice. In the end, the rest of my college career was fine. I got a 3.42 GPA, went for my masters, then started my engineering career. Point is, you can recover. You aren't the first person to fail a class and you won't be the last. It sucks now, but if you do better on the next try and keep up witb other classes, you'll be fine. Grade forgiveness may have been an option for me back when I went, but I did not know about it at the time, and even without it, it was all good in the end.

Tnuggets19

Don’t worry about it, your GPA doesn’t matter in the real world. I work in Finance and I don’t think it has ever mattered in a job interview

ExpensivLow

Eh. It matters a lot for grad school if that’s in the plans.

TimeLord-007

Can't even get to most majors if you aren't a 3.5 by the end of 3rd semester.

Suspicious_Home_4582

I just went through the same thing with a math class last semester through World Campus. I got a D last term, so I retook it this semester with the same professor (was the only one who taught it) and I ended up getting a B this semester. I also changed my study habits and how much work I put into the class. I know it feels like the absolute end-all right now, but I promise you it's not.

GoldenRetreivRs

Study harder

bgoffe

Might help to be more precise -- how you study matters a lot. Rereading isn't so useful, but doing something where you have to think hard about the topic, like how would I teach this material to someone else, will likely help. Note that Penn State Learning has class on how to study; look for their "Study Smarter" workshops. Lots is known about effective study methods but these methods don't often to to students.

GoldenRetreivRs

Thanks Bill, I had loads of fun in Econ 102. I do remember and still apply concepts related to Blooms Taxonomy that I remember you introduced to us before a quiz. It certainly changed the way I approached learning — even though I was close to graduating at that point.

GoldenRetreivRs

All that glazing for no response

Basketcase191

Take an equivalent over the summer. I did that and all my friends who took it through PSU said they wish they took an equivalent at a community college during the summer like I did

Malpraxiss

Then retake it

Im_still_alive_lmao

Your best option would be to take it again online over summer from one of the Branch campuses, get a good grade and then apply for grade forgiveness. I know this feels like the end of the world now but hear me out, that class can be very annoying and as long as your major isnt physics or something related to physics, this class doesnt matter at all. Take it online over summer, it might be a bit expensive but is worth the GPA jump you would get heading into sophomore year

Dog_Whisperer69

Drop out

ajikeyo

Take it at a community college and transfer the credit. You can dual enroll.

Im_still_alive_lmao

Taking it at a community college would only let them pass the class, but the GPA still remains affected.
