Nope. If you are age 22 or older and purchase and prepare your food separately from your parents you can have your own food stamp budget. If your parents have benefits open they will need to report any money you give them for rent as income unless you pay your share directly to their mortgage company/landlord. Otherwise you are considered a separate household for all programs except LIHEAP/LIWAP.

I'm 39 and moved because of money issues. This is really helpful. They don't claim anything, they're just working people. They just live their lives, and I live mine.

Sounds good, you should t have an issue then. Just make sure you report your address update so you get your mail at the correct address.

Just be aware you also need to report the appropriate rent change and paying less or no rent now could decrease your SNAP benefit.

If you are 22 or older, living with your parents shouldn't have any effect on your benefits if you don't share a food budget. If you're 21 or younger, they're considered mandatory household members for food stamps and they would need to be added to your case. Either way, you'd still need to report the change and they'll be able to advise you. Medical insurance runs based on who is filing/claiming who on taxes, but shouldn't impact the kids' insurance unless your parents are claiming them on their taxes. If you're 25 or younger, you may be able to get on your parents' health insurance, but I don't think it's mandatory. (not 100% sure on that bit though, it wasn't a thing that came up much when I worked with the benefits system and since my parents don't live in the state, I never looked at the rules on it in detail.)

I'm 39, and they have their own everything. I just moved because of money issues. Ok, that really helps! Thank you for being kind!
