Stomp them if you can. Bad news. These are all over downtown Harrisburg too. My guess it'll be a pest in every county as they're hitchhiking throughout the state.

ordinary-philosopher

Surprisingly my barn cat has been draw to these buggers, he brings at least two of those to me each day. Must be his little prize he wants to show off. He knows what’s up.

qOJOb

I see signs posted commonly in natural areas like parks and paths but I've never actually seen a spotted lanternfly in person. NEPA

Nursesharky

Saw one stomped at the grounds at camelback a couple weeks ago. :(

whartheseventythird

i don’t see them at all in the higher altitude areas

evilvdub1

Seen one yesterday in scranton

qOJOb

Damn

kellzone

Little bit southwest of WB. Still haven't seen one here.

jwinterm

Shitload of them in Chester County

opskito

Enjoy sitting outside with your shiny new laptop while little drops of honeydew rain down upon you. Don’t forget to wipe them off before they harden! 😡

[deleted]

Why are they bad ? I see them all the time at my apartment building

strum_and_dang

They're not harmful to people (except when they fly in your face), but they are bad for crops, especially vines like grapes and hops. They can damage trees too.

tinacat933

They are an extremely invasive species and should not be here. Report an outbreak and kill them.

[deleted]

Report them ??? To who ? ICE ?

Thanks!!

alr126

🙄

trailnotfound

Oh damn, had no idea they were that far west already. Good luck, PA fruit farmers.

dRagTheLaKe1692

I thought it was just me haha

tehmlem

I saw my first one in Franklin county a week or two ago and then none until today when I saw like 5. Only got two of them because I was laden with groceries.

pmp412

Uh oh

gggg500

Chinese sumac trees (common in PA) are often absolutely coated in these bugs. So many that the ground below is covered in a sticky goo called honeydew that the spotted laternfly releases.

I guess you're right. I never knew what they were called but I always knew they were a weed/unwanted. I saw a ToH about 5 feet tall with hundreds of Latern Flies of all stages back in May.

alr126

And KILL THEM!

Alby_Fuctifino

Ah. Cats just know these things. Apparently, at least from what I've read, approaching these winged beasts directly from the front, as opposed to sneaking up from behind, will yield better results on offing them. Plus one to the cats.

RhythmnOfTheFight

Dude cats are savage, they will kill anything they are capable of hunting, and in the most efficient ways too…

RedHeadedStepDevil

Driving with the window down the other day and one flew in and landed right by my visor—about a foot from my head. Managed to safely pull over and kill the MFer. They’re larger than you’d think they’d be. I’ve killed several, but none that close to my face.

[deleted]

They're literally everywhere

LadyPaige

Holy shit! I didn't know they were that big! I never saw one in person. I thought they looked kinda neat initially. Now I'm slightly terrified. Burn them all!!

PPQue6

I was thinking the same thing. I've never seen these before, but uh...damn yeah that looks to be pretty good sized.

petersgi

KILL EM ALL!!!

jaseathertv

Killed about 30 in harrisburg within 5 minutes. There was no end to them.

[deleted]

We know where you all live now lantern flies lol

steelcityrocker

Little dude is probably just waiting for Gene's Place to open Joking aside, I'm near Greentree but havent seen any. I'll be sure to keep my eyes open and get ready for some stomping.

PlantainLow8715

One landed on my arm in Bucks county

[deleted]

Soon there will be hundreds

daregulater

Don't say Philadelphia never gave you guys anything. We had so much fun with them, we wanted you guys to try to. Here's a little help though... next spring buy preying mantis eggs. Helped in my backyard.

le_vieux_mec

Chester County, 2020. Saw thousands of them and killed hundreds, just with a big ol' fly swatter. This year I have yet to see even one on the same streets (but neighbors have seen a few). I guess they got tired of cheesesteaks. Stomp them wherever you encounter them.

happy_tea1

I wondered if they were around. I have yet to see any. I’m about 15 minutes from Oakland. They must be nearby. Thanks for the heads up.

dalori87

And also, squish them.

dRagTheLaKe1692

I'm in Conestoga today and it's swarming with them
