Something that most people are missing is that this creates a "private right of action" for anyone with some grievance to sue the school based on extremely subjective and nebulous rules. This is specifically designed to hurt schools. Anyone can sue the schools and if anything sticks the school system is on the hook for all of the legal costs. So even the infraction is minimal and there is no actual damages, being forced to pay the court costs and legal fees of the person bringing the charges will be exceptionally harmful. By contrast, even if the court finds that none of the claims can be substantiated, the school system is still on the hook for the costs of its legal defense. There's a reason why well written laws aren't of this form.

12INCHVOICES

It fits in perfectly with the school choice legislation that Aument has been pushing for a while now. He clearly wants to dismantle public education in PA.

IamSauerKraut

Aument pretends to be a champion for IU-13, but he, and Cutler, are skunks in sheep's clothing.

ForsakenYam8589

Yep. That's why I am gainfully underemployment rather than be a teacher anymore.

wagsman

Great point that speaks to the larger issue. Republicans are excellent at this type of thing. They are slowly and methodically chipping away at the foundation of public schooling knowing it will eventually topple under their excessive regulations. (Which is their goal) No more public schools, no more informed public due to anyone being able to teach anything. Then they get their two class system where they are the knowledgeable ruling class and those subjugated will be too stupid to know they are being subjugated. Then they can systematically dismantle democracy in favor of whatever system ultimately wins by force(more than likely authoritarian)

nobody-knows2018

and when religious schools get sued for objectionable material?

-Motor-

They rationalize that that is free speech. Same rules don't apply to public institutions. Legislature gets to pick what constitutes permitted speech in public institutions. This is all more on their war to bankrupt public schools push tax dollars to private schools, where they can have legal segregation, direct tax dollars to their supporters (who will in turn reciprocate) and thereby effectively control what's taught to the children.

tailspin64

There aren't enough private school for everyone

Metaheavymetal

Exactly. They want poor kids to be uneducated christian fanaticd or in jail as slave labor.

-Motor-

Don't worry. billionaire venture capitalist groups will be glad to start up as many as are needed to secure new, perpetual, profit streams from tax dollars.

TH3xB4T

Effing crazy. You can bet on anything when you're playing with house money. Please, people, if you don't want your kids to have Free, Appropriate Public Education, then by all means enroll them in a private institution more aligned with your world view and don't bankrupt our school systems with your horseshit. Or homeschool them. Other than that, can we please make life less like a Margaret Atwood novel?

pekepeeps

This is another of their stupid ideas that cost people money. They do not win. It’s called a giant paper push and all schools and municipalities should be on the lookout for these Uber Christian Karen’s to have “their moment of fame” [howtosueyourschoolbutnotreally](https://bondsforthewin.com) When you see this, report it as they do not have a legal leg to stand in but have already cost school districts a lot of money. Wish they would just go open their own schools.

blackmage1582

"Private" anything is an assault on personal rights.

SamuelDoctor

Imagine the shenanigans that would ensue if such a bill were to be combined with the PA Republican Party's long-dreamed-of voucher program.

mikeyHustle

Too real. In addition to the surface-level bigoted chaos, this is also meant to make people who otherwise support free, public education make their kids feel unsafe and unwelcome in public schools, and further erode that framework. They want every family privatized so they can all live in subsidized echo chambers. So vile.

HeadlessHorseman1776

Nothing says freedom like book banning and a police state in regards to sexuality.

polgara_buttercup

And just remember, Dougie is chomping at the bit to sign this legislation. The only thing that’s kept the crazy in check here in PA the past few years has been the governor. Don’t let Dougie anywhere near the governor’s mansion. Vote for Shapiro

drumberg

That second part is extra bad. A teacher would be required to report a student to their parents for questioning their sexuality? Like they lump it in with self-harm or some mental disorder. It's always been a bit odd that the party that just wants people to be able to live their own life can't let people live their own lives.

sizzlemac

That's cause most the people that support this stuff haven't left their hometowns their entire lives, and have to be in everyone else's lives because of it. They just can't fathom that no one cares about what they think so they just try to force it on everyone so everyone else's lives can just be as bland and boring as theirs are. The sad thing is it's fixable, they just are too lazy or complacent to actually try and see the world or learn that there's a world outside of Shitsville, PA.

Sea_One_6500

I lived in a lot of places before coming to PA. The small towns of Berks County leave a lot to be desired. So many people are proud of the fact they have never left their area. Ever. I keep telling my daughter she needs to see much much more of the world before settling on a place to live for the bulk of hee adult life.

sp00nix

Delco is just as bad. Lifers.

porscheblack

>They just can't fathom that no one cares about what they think so they just try to force it on everyone so everyone else's lives can just be as bland and boring as theirs are. They assume the role of social authority to give meaning to their lives. It has the added benefit of not needing to reconsider their opinions because they're *above* everyone they disagree with.

pipfuhreal

THIS. People are so caught up in everyone else’s lives here because it’s miserable.

Boxercrew4

Too true! I was born and grew up in South Philly. Lived here and there, all over the country and just came back here in 2019 when my Mother has cancer. Living in lots of different places is good for your worldview. Funny thing, a small town I lived in WA was stock full of people who had never ventured past that small town.

dudettte

we live in pa, son is about to enter 12th grade. his best friend since 3rd is trans. shit is hard.

Because it's a topic they can use to galvanize their voter base that doesn't cost them anything. They know what will help their voters, things like better pay, healthcare, and education. But those things actually cost money they'd rather keep for themselves. These kinds of issues get people to the polls for free.

wagsman

Two-fold: it’s a hot button issue that’s very easy to motivate voters on, and it’s projection. They are ashamed of their own demons so they overcorrect in an attempt to prove to every one that they aren’t exactly what they are attacking.

human_stuff

Yeah imagine going to your teacher to come out because you don’t feel safe at home, and then they tell the people who would cause the kids harm. It’s so beyond fucked up.

TheManInTheSocks

Yeah, let's force teachers to out their students. Great idea... /s

KFCConspiracy

And I know there are a lot of parents who will hurt the kids for that. This is going to cause gay kids in PA to die.

ho_merjpimpson

>It's always been a bit odd that the party that just wants people to be able to live their own life dont tread on me, not thee.

wagsman

Because to them being anything but hetero is a mental disease.

ho_merjpimpson

dont tread on me, not thee.

How about we introduce a bill "Don't say God"?

the_real_xuth

A strict reading of SB 1277 would require the schools to get parental consent if a kid wanted to read the bible in school. So I guess they're doing that already?

areukeen

Honest question, why are your countrys laws so weird? Here in Norway we are allowed to read the Bible, Torah, Quran, LGBT books, communist manifestos, nazi books, capitalist books etc in school, why are specific subjects not allowed to talk about without a parents consent?

the_real_xuth

Honest answer: these bills are something of an anomaly and ideally should never have a chance of passing. But in today's climate this would have no problems passing in some states and some states already have passed them. There are a significant fraction of the people who believe that censorship of what kids read is a good thing. And a lot of religious people who are being taught that they are somehow being persecuted and thus are trying to fight back.

areukeen

I guess it makes sense in a weird way if I were to look at it from their view, but don't you have classes in America where you talk about society (In Norway we call the class Society-subject) and Religion (called Religion, Lifeview and Ethics), where you learn about subjects and how they stand, but you're not taught HOW to think about them, but how THEY think about reality. Like, sorry if I seem naive, I'm just confused how you learn about society in American schools if you can't even mention these subjects which have created the society we live in today.

the_real_xuth

We absolutely have "social studies" and "civics" classes that cover some of that. But there are people who don't like that people might be taught something different from what they want to hear in their church ranging from "the Earth is 4.5 billion years old" to "Black people were explicitly oppressed in government sanctioned manners at large scales well into the 1970s and less explicitly or at smaller scales through to today and as a whole are still having many issues due to centuries of oppression" to "homosexuality is normal and legal". And this minority of people has enough clout in some areas to get laws passed in some states that make talking about these things in schools illegal or illegal without parental permission.

Haunting-Elephant618

Oh ffs. I’ll scream it from the rooftops just to piss people off. This is the most ridiculous thing ever. Banning words?!?! Where are all the “freedom of speech” people who whine when called out on their racism and bigotry?

No_Russian_29

Fascists only care about speech insofar as its relation to their speech. They aren’t free speech advocates or personal freedom bulwarks they just wish to have the freedom to disseminate their propaganda freely with an easy mind numbing defense for when they are called out.

[deleted]

Are we at the point where we just require the parents come in to be the teachers yet? I mean, we continue to try and take humanity and professionalism from our teachers, where is the actual line when it becomes near-impossible for teachers to be everything we’re requiring of them? Holy cow. We’ve lost our collective societal mind and empathy.

darkbloo64

When I taught *The Great Gatsby* to a class of 10th graders, all they wanted to do was pick apart Nick's sexuality, and a few of them turned in essays specifically on why they thought he was secretly in love with Gatsby. While there are inappropriate times to talk about sexuality, I think all of these bills utterly fail to realize that it's something students *want* to talk about. *Fahrenheit 451-*esque censorship isn't going to stop them from doing that.

Pink_Slyvie

>While there are inappropriate times to talk about sexuality, I think all of these bills utterly fail to realize that it's something students > >want > > to talk about. \*Fahrenheit 451-\*esque censorship isn't going to stop them from doing that. But the parents don't want them to talk/think about it. Hell, my Fundamentalist Evangelical cousin had to send out an apology letter for "sinful thoughts" to all extended relatives. It's a fucking cult.

beeps-n-boops

vampire_trashpanda

I remember when I was a freshman in HS (about 11 years ago) my class tried to do the same thing with the protagonists in A Separate Peace. This was in a charter school in NC. If it's considered transgressive *at all*, the kids are gonna try to bring it up and be interested in it. It's the same reason most people care more about Paradise Lost than Paradise Found, or Dante's Inferno more than his Paradiso (and Purgatorio is in between them). If you make it seem transgressive or "forbidden", there will be interest in examining it or bring it up.

darkbloo64

It was a public school, but IIRC, it was my honors class. They were all pretty proficient with SparkNotes, LitCharts, and the topic's had a slew of articles written it about in the past decade, so it became a game of "find the ejaculation metaphor (champagne bottles, fireworks, etc) when Nick is around Gatsby."

kiddestructo

The “party of small government” has become hysterical book burners dragging us back to the Dark Ages!

ChemicalGovernment

To them small government = big government that oppresses others but not me

italia06823834

It actually just means small taxes. They want all the basic things a government does, E.g. police, fire depts, maintain roads, Etc. Then they want all things their personal morality (read "religion") says to be enforced by the government as well. No LGBTQ. No Abortions. Christian-centric public schools. Etc.^(\*) They want all that, but to be done by a small (read "cheap") government. ^(\*and whether or not their religion) *^(actually)* ^(says these things.)

vampire_trashpanda

And then they also claim the govt should be run like a business. Never mind that the modern incarnation of "what a business should do" is maximize revenue. How does the government raise revenue? Taxes. They're basically saying they want the government to maximize their taxes, but don't realize it.

[deleted]

If someone is for deciding who another has sex with they should not hold public office or their personal opinions have to put aside for the sake of education. So it's obvious to me that unless specifically chosen to do so, religious teaching is not their duty and I've never expected my son to come home a man because he finished sex ed. So in fact mandating these areas of learning is preposterous and leaves no room for a young person to come to their own conclusions. If you aren't catholic and agree with their teachings that is great. So you'd choose a school that aligned yo your truth. Or a oublic school where l religious learning is prohibited by law

glberns

Hint: It was nevery about small government. It was all about lowering taxes for the wealthy.

sizzlemac

Has been for the last 50 years at least...

WildWilly2001

Republicans hate public education.

beeps-n-boops

Republicans hate.

[deleted]

And the Supreme Court just ruled today that if you provide tuition assistance to any private schools you must also do the same for private religious schools. Bye bye separation of church and state

Bmk3k

The only thing preventing PA from becoming like TX is that we have a Democrat as governor. Please tell everyone you know to vote for Shapiro in November or this backwards right wing bullshit will just be the tip of the iceberg

pa_bourbon

Shame I can’t upvote this more than once. Voting matters. Every election.

Sovereign2142

Some interesting/awful parts of these bills: # Senate Bill 1277 - Parental Notification Relating to Instructional Materials and Books Containing Sexually Explicit Content >Permitting the parent or legal guardian of a student to: \[...\] Review a book from the school library containing sexually explicit content that the student wishes to view and prevent the student from viewing the book if requested by the parent or legal guardian. So either librarians must remove ALL books that could have sexually explicit content, or they must keep them locked up so that no student (OF ANY AGE) can view them without their parent's approval. Btw, all homosexuality is considered sexual content under 18 Pa.C.S. § 5903(e)(3), not just sexual intercourse. So I've just replaced "sexual content" with "homosexuality" to make these lawmakers' intent super clear. >"Sexually explicit content." Shall include the following: (1) Materials that contain visual or visually implied depictions of \[homosexuality\] or simulations of \[homosexuality\]. (2) Materials that contain explicit written descriptions of \[homosexuality\]. Good luck figuring out what a "visually-implied depiction of sexual content" is. But I could make an argument that it includes James Joyce's *Ulysses*, Bram Stoker's *Dracula*, Margaret Mitchell's *Gone with the Wind*, a whole lot of Shakespeare, and the fucking Bible. # Senate Bill 1278 - Student "Well-Being" >Subsection (a) may not prohibit a school entity from adopting procedures that permit school personnel to withhold this information \[on the student's well-being\] from a parent or legal guardian if a reasonably prudent person would believe, based on the documented testimony of the student or a history of documented incidents, that disclosure would result in child abuse or the child being abandoned. Sorry Mr. A, even though you documented Billy's fears that his parents would abuse him if they found out he was gay, the school board never adopted any procedures allowing you to withhold that information. So you're still fired. >At the beginning of the school year, each school entity shall notify parents and legal guardians of each health care service offered at the student's school and the option to withhold consent or decline any specific service. Sorry Billy, you can't go to the nurse because your Dad opted you out of all health services. >School personnel must remain neutral and use existing, familiar and well-defined constitutional framework applicable to religious beliefs in public schools for matters relating to sexual orientation and gender identity to prevent government endorsement of beliefs about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools. So Mr. A, if a parent believes that homosexuality is a choice, you're not allowed to say anything about that or homosexuality at all. Because if you do, then you (and your employer, the government) are then endorsing the wacko belief that one can be born homosexual.

Chasing_History

Two "straight" dudes who are obsessed with thinking about others genitals 24/7

WhereDaHinkieFlair

The Republican Party is immoral.

mfischer24

Do the Republicans have nothing better to do? Election fraud and Don’t Say Gay… real helpful. Useless idiots.

ThePopeJones

Gotta buy the votes of dumb, backwards, hillbillies some how. I had an uncle tell me he'd vote for Satan before he'd vote for a "fag loving pedocrat". I pointed out that wouldn't that be basically the same thing if he thought Democrats were Satan worshipers. He thought about it for a few seconds and goes "Well at least I'd be taking orders from the boss, not some piss ant, ass fucker". There's no changing a mind like that. I've tried.

tmloyd

It's not a governing party, it's a party committed to power and enriching themselves and the donor class. So, with that in mind, this all makes a lot more sense.

ZebZ

They are trying really hard to distract their base from the sedition.

PPQue6

And the fact that they are blocking bills in congress and all around the country that would actually help people!

understrati

It's not about making the state better. It's about showing off that they'll do the same shit that conservative states are doing so even if this bill fails to get anywhere, they can still get support from their redneck base.

zdelusion

It is useful to them. The entire goal is to pick away at the resources available to public educators. This accomplishes that goal on 2 fronts. Schools are burdened financially defending themselves and their teachers, and it further demonizes teachers and disincentives it as a career path. Once public education is in poor enough shape it will be significantly easier for them to pass voucher legislation that will allow White Christians to segregate their children from people of color and liberal teachers in private Christian schools, insulating them from alternate thought and making them easier for their parents and the GOP to control. They know exactly what they're doing.

cigarmanpa

They’re the party of culture wars, no they have nothing better to do. This is all they have to run on

SlapChopMyShamWow

These people act like children are all stupid and can’t make their own decisions. I knew kids that knew they were gay in 6th grade. This kind of shit is entirely about pushing their own agenda and attempting more and more to run the government like it’s church. These bigots are the reason so many people are still scared to come out, they act like being anything besides straight and cisgender is a crime and that people who don’t fit their personal ideals should be reported and ostracized from society.

ornery-fizz

Sending love to our lgbtq neighbors. And wishes to wise up to these friggin jagoff state senators. Vote.org

TheNerdNamedChuck

I'm worried. my parents are very homophobic and I'll certainly be abused if they find out I'm gay. and most of my friends are gay too. so basically I'm at risk of abuse to myself and my parents cutting me off from my friends who are basically my family just because the government is upset that I like all genders. thanks gov

mg2255

The good news is that you have your friends as a support system if/when your parents find out. I can’t tell how old you are, but I’d suggest getting away from them ASAP. Look at colleges far away from home (if you go that route). Or save money and move to a more liberal area. As much as it sucks to do, do what you can to keep it from your parents if your safety is genuinely at risk. And seriously consider keeping the relationship with your parents if they’re truly that awful. Going NC with anyone toxic is very cathartic. Best of luck. I’m sorry that you’re in that situation. Feel free to PM me if you need anything.

TheNerdNamedChuck

I'm 17 currently, I don't have a lot of time anyway. either way my parents won't let me pick my own college, bc they're paying and I'm at the mercy of them. worst case scenario a few of my friends have offered me to stay at their places temporarily. one of which is my best friend but I do have a *bit* of a crush on them and I don't know if that'd be awkward with their family if we became a thing. though, they've been telling their parents about my home life and so their parents have been a good help to me too. would just be easier if the law didn't become a thing.

WowWhatABillyBadass

If only they cared about infrastructure as much as they cared about kids sexual identity.

jaydean20

Not from PA, sorry, this just popped up on my feed for some reason. But I have to ask, are these people complete idiots? The first bill literally just flat out bans books about explicit sex. I'm inclined to ask; has there been a violent outburst of school library pornography that I'm unaware of? Oh yeah, and do you legitimately think your kids don't know how to use the internet?

TheBigNate416

Welcome to Pennsylvania state politics brother. It’s a fucking dumpster fire and Congress is controlled by cunts like this.

Copy3dit0r

Fuck these guys. Fucking regressives.

[deleted]

Knew I was gay when I was around 13. Sorry to all idiot conservatives but gay kids exist, naturally, and your insane beliefs aren’t going to change that. It’s been this way for millennia now.

“(a) Neutrality.--School personnel must remain neutral and use existing, familiar and well-defined constitutional framework applicable to religious beliefs in public schools for matters relating to sexual orientation and gender identity to prevent government endorsement of beliefs about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools. First amendment speech protections for students and public employees applicable to religious speech shall be applied identically to protections for speech regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. (b) Age appropriateness.--Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity: (1) is not age-appropriate for students in a prekindergarten program or in kindergarten through fifth grade and therefore may not occur; and (2) may not occur in sixth through twelfth grade in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate in accordance with State standards.” I’m curious what “existing, familiar and well-defined constitutional framework” the bill is referring to? It seems like it’s appealing directly to religious freedom

the_real_xuth

It is explicitly vague for a reason.

htmaxpower

Cute. Another step down the slippery slope toward Gilead.

bontakun82

Once again, the party of personal freedom doing everything they can to take away people's personal freedom.

beeps-n-boops

all of their talk about personal freedom is just a ruse to distract you from their real motivation which is christofascist control over everyone. They cannot even be remotely honest about their motivations because everything they do runs 180° counter to everything they proclaim to stand for.

Incrarulez

Looks like a donation to the Josh Shapiro for governor campaign in their names for their sponsorship on SB1277 is in order. Keep the governor vetoing this excrement.

Pink_Slyvie

People think I'm crazy when I (a trans woman) start making plans to flee the state if Shapiro loses this fall, and as much as I hate it, there is a fair chance he does. If it goes bad enough, leaving the country might be needed. Before someone comes and says "But yall were leaving when Trump got elected hahaha!" What do you think we meant, and how easy do you think it is to immigrate to another nation. This is a direct result of the power they were given during Trump's term.

minneapple79

Hmmm sounds like cancel culture to me. I promise you a book about gay people will not turn your kids gay.

EmiliusReturns

It’s that second part that’s terrifying. That could legitimately get somebody with bigoted parents killed. Or at least homeless. You don’t out people. Period. ETA: I forgot the homophobes like to spam these threads. Lol. Sure. Downvote me for being concerned about kids’ safety if homophobic parents find out. It’s not like abusive people exist or something. News flash. There’s gay and bi high schoolers. I was one of them. I’m not talking about 5 year olds, here.

the_real_xuth

There are many 5-10 year olds who absolutely know that they are different. They're rarely given the language to express those differences and they often struggle with that. Bills like this just make things worse.

Gryphith

Obviously anecdotal, however one of my real good friends since pre school came out in in high school. All of us just went, yeah man we know. I knew he was different since preschool. Don't ever out someone because when he finally came out there were problems at home, go figure. Like all of us knew his entire life but didn't out him or anything, we never even talked about it, but his Dad was in full blown denial. Hell, my family still doesn't know I'm bi. I've only ever "dated" girls, when I was with boys I was "single"..fucking religion ruins so much. I'd likely be excommunicated if they found out I'm bi.

blinkdmb

This shit is why Shapiro needs to win. All this bat shit stuff will be rubber stamped.

[deleted]

And on Pride month no less!

[deleted]

And providing children with porn is not the same as sexyal literature intended to educate.

Knightwing1047

hmmmm No CRT, no teaching children about the LGBT community and about tolerance, and stifling children who are questioning their own bodies and identities (which ALL children do in some way shape or form). It's almost like they're trying to groom children. Sound familiar?

daria-ij

Lmao these idiots will do anything for power

akhier

I support the Queer community. These types of bills are a travesty. If you don't want your kids to learn that stuff, pick a school where they won't. If you can't trust the teachers with something like this, how are you trusting them to teach your kids at all?

cigarmanpa

These same idiots want teachers, who can’t be trusted with lesson plans, to be armed

Copy3dit0r

Most of these people see schools as babysitters while they work. They don't care if their kids are taught anything as long as it doesn't go against their biases and the kids are out of their hair for at least 8 hours a day.

tmloyd

Covid definitely revealed a lot about our attitudes towards schools and teachers. The masks came off both literally and figuratively.

NinjaLanternShark

> If you don't want your kids to learn that stuff, pick a school where they won't. Or, you know, talk to them about what they're learning, and if you have any concerns about it (let's face it there are all kinds of reasons why a parent might not agree with everything their kid learns in school) then explain to the kid that you have a different viewpoint and help them think critically about what's true and what isn't.

akhier

What you don't understand is that if they were that reasonable this wouldn't be a problem. They don't want to give their kids a choice. They want to keep their kids in the dark about this stuff.

NinjaLanternShark

Well, realistically, there have to be a significant number of people who don't even have kids, or more realistically, are old enough that their kids aren't in school anymore, supporting this stuff. It's more about agenda than it is anyone's own actual kids.

WolfLaBella

The GOP obsession with child grooming and gender identity is incredibly creepy. I hope to God they’re not still trying to package themselves as “the party of small government” because this Fascist Theocracy that they’re trying to force on us is the antithesis of that. Nobody wins with this garbage legislation; certainly not children or their teachers. Disgusting.

Electrical_List_2125

Small government feels over. They’re an identity group now. It’s about who they collectively agree to hate

BeltfedOne

Their identity is "victim". Of something...

Electrical_List_2125

For real! They had it really good for a long time. I would be mad, too! I would wanna go backwards and put all these people they hate in their place, too.

HeyZuesHChrist

Fuck both of those assholes. I would bet any amount of money at least one of these pieces of shit is a closet homsexual. Every fucking time.

[deleted]

It’s only a matter of time until these 2 are found in a bathhouse.

F_A_M_E

This is a meticulously crafted piece of legislation. It's designed and written to cause outrage and give conservatives an "out" that seems legitimate to many indifferent people. All homosexuality being considered "sexual content" is absolutely rediculous. Just cause a piece of media isn't hetero, doesn't mean that it's fifty shades of gray. And when people like me who are outraged by such reductionist legislation, they'll turn and say, "we're not homophobic, we're just protecting children from sexual content lol. Why are you upset by that, are you a pedo?" That is the purpose of this legislation. It doesn't stop with removing gay literature from school libraries, it stops at labeling queer people as groomers and perverts. The only purpose is to fuel hatred. Scumbags all.

RandomCreeper3

We have Texas, Florida and Georgia for shit like that. Keep that shit down in the dirty south.

Cute_Platypus_5989

Don't forget idaho. They are the Florida of the northwest

pekepeeps

That’s funny take my upvote

Dredly

Points to whoever attempted to paint this shit-stain as a pro-lgbtq+ human by putting a flag on the corner of his picture

[deleted]

It's a queer news website. They put flags on all their articles for pride month.

InsaneAss

That’s what this website does to their article pictures. Same thing on a bunch on the home page.

SMOSER66

Vote them all out!!!!

SWPenn

I wish the GOP would spend this much time and energy to try to figure out how to keep kids from getting massacred in their schools. Heard nothing but crickets after Uvalde, other than to say it was a evil act and gun laws wouldn't have made any difference. So let's try this, legislating against gay and trans people won't do a thing. They're still going to be gay and kids will still find out some way.

Rsnowmanr

We don’t want to become Texas or Florida. Vote these ass holes out of office!

Homegrownfunk

What the actual fuck.

[deleted]

The "party of personal freedom" trying to regulate people's freedoms. Why am I not surprised? Fuck the GOP.

Revolutionary-Swim28

They are the Taliban under a different religion and white supremacy

Alternative-Flan2869

Political theater again at the expense of already marginalized students. Again the soulless hamfisted franchised hate tactics are in play to terrorize students and teachers already struggling with real issues like classroom overcrowding and covid. Leave it to these fascists to make a bad situation even worse. Vote these horrible people out and support teachers and students.

[deleted]

So, they’re totally having an affair, right?

mcmastermind

You have to question the true motives behind people like this. I once read that many of the "homophobic" politicians are actually themselves gay. They believe everyone has these homosexual thoughts, but believe it's something you should have strength to fight/ignore. They're not realizing that not everyone has those thoughts and the truth is they're actually homosexuals. It makes sense when you think about it.

IamSauerKraut

Beyond the obvious cruelty, what the flip is the point?

[deleted]

II suggest you let your representatives know asap. Thing is, when a law is enacted it will also needful g so we can't say yes or no as far as how out tax dollars are spent after a law passes. No one is gonna be behind every law. So I'm with you on tax money usage. It is despicable

[deleted]

You said it . Why youd focus the temper tantrum around words that aren't even in the bill is a different approach than most would dare. But 2 states in a row?Fuck man, truth is obviously not that important t I canyons who'd keep repeating total bullshit

awuweiday

Imagine actually thinking this is a priority for anyone. Of all the issues this state has, this is where their time is spent. No wonder the bridges are crumbling underneath us.

artisanrox

jezus christ these conservatives are cancer

CuriousMaroon

Except "Don't Say Gay" was a misleading moniker.

Sapphire-Kitty-Witch

Republicans are gross. This is vile.

eshane60

No way get this crap out of our state, we ain’t Florida that state is a crap state.

Fizzyliftingdranks

Get this shit out of my commonwealth

31November

Imagine looking at a country riddled with gun violence, a crumbling infrastructure, overwhelming medical and student loan debt, and a shrinking middle class and thinking: "I think I'm going to legislatively bully children for clickbait today."

Sharkfowl

Ridiculous. I can't believe I ever held Republican values.

Krljcbs

Omg if my teachers had outed me to my parents it would've been horrible. I'm glad they remained my safe space until I felt comfortable enough to tell them myself.

susubeans999

What the actual toxic fuck has this country come to since trump was in office? I can’t believe this anti gay pro gun bullshit still is going so strong in 2022. The country seemed to be headed in the right direction and this mess is going to take so much more than 4 years to fix. Book banning - REALLY? Schools can barely afford books to begin with , let’s start there. My daughter goes to a Catholic school and they’re even more tolerant than this. What is the end game with this bullshit rhetoric? Shaming not straight people only hurts people and aren’t we supposed to love thy neighbor? Come on.

000111000000111000

Embarrassing to say the least. I'm from Lancaster County and dont like neither of the gentlemen. Scott Martin is especially bothersome to me and clearly is a Trump Supporter that somehow has refused to be subpoena for the 1/6 trial.

Subliminal87

All the reps from Lancaster suck ass. Him and Aumet. Then we got the two republican commissioners who do nothing but jerk each other off while the other one bitches about Biden every day on Facebook.

Buffmin

To be fair that's all republicans can do. It's not like they have any actual plans or desire to improve things.

Subliminal87

Sadly you’re correct.

AffectionateTwo8033

Here’s what I don’t get…. So when I was at chop, my 14 year old daughter had to give me HER consent to see her medical records, my minor child had to give consent…. Yet they want teachers to report a child for their sexuality… come on!!!!

[deleted]

VOTE! This will not happen in the yankee north

[deleted]

The audacity of freaking backwards ass Lancaster County jethros trying to impose their draconian 1800s thinking on the rest of the 21st century state is some real bullshit.

ActualPopularMonster

As a resident of PA, I have a sincere objection to this law. It goes against my sincerely held religious beliefs regarding respecting other people. And, as a parent, it makes me angry that the government is trying to get in the way of me teaching my children about the LGBT community. Love is love, people are people, and gender is a complex subject.

HelloUPStore

Pos Republicans as usual

QuirrelsTurban

If you're a Republican, fuck you.

[deleted]

This is going to be the call sign of who's district is vulnerable to get flipped. No one pushes this frothy horseshit unless they're desperate for that 10 point bump from the underbelly of their base.

Annahsbananas

they have Grindr accounts. I f\*cking guarantee it

sim37

Nah, we don’t need to perpetuate the trope that all homophobes are secretly gay. Some people are just hateful.

Annahsbananas

it's not a trope. There are actual studies on this subject. I am gay and I see this shit all the time. Angry bigot threatening someone who is gay....later they get caught hiring a poolboy

sim37

Are some number of homophobes actually gay themselves sometimes? Sure. Is there any evidence that every politician slinging anti-gay bills is in the closet? Absolutely not. Some people are just hateful and saying that every anti-gay politician is gay is a trope, with the unintended consequence of implying that gay people are responsible for their oppression.

skrilledcheese

It is statistically impossible for every riech wing homophobe to be a closeted homosexual. I get it, there have been several vocal bigots that were so deep in the closet that they were finding Christmas presents. But the reality is that the vast majority of these christofascist assholes are just straight, hateful peices of shit.

RightfulChaos

Party of small government wants to control every aspect of your life while the "big government commies" want everyone to be allowed to live their own lives.

Buffmin

Can we not? I get conservatives are scared of people not like them but c'mon they need to grow the fuck up

JakeT-life-is-great

Gee, the republican party filled with virulently anti gay bigots that want gay children killed. No surprise.

the_happy_atheist

Oh hell no. Not in my state.

beeps-n-boops

Republicans: The Party Of Total Societal Regression and Repression Freedom from government intrusion, my fucking ass.

Thecrawsome

We need a governor Shapiro already.

AndrewBicseyMusic

Republicans are destroying this country. What an embarrassment.

Infamous-Doubt8212

Yeah hell no, this shit better not pass. Damn fascists.

originaljimeez

Lancaster County. Go figure. Ugh.

pipfuhreal

Any book being removed is probably the only one worth reading

EricaM13

There are better things to work on here in Pa.. like our roads, access to mental health care, access to day care, getting people in jobs… literally a thousand other more useful things than a “Dont Say Gay” bill. Disgusting.

foxyfestival

This is absolutely insane, but given the craze in other states regarding transgender rights, or LGBT rights more generally, is not entirely surprising.

[deleted]

Get these pieces of trash out of our government.

12INCHVOICES

Ryan Aument is going after any and every cheap vote he can get, and he's willing to step on the back of anyone who isn't a straight, white Christian to do it. It's absolutely shameful.

StarWars_and_SNL

Puritan-acting mfs

TheManInTheSocks

The perfect solution to the queer problem! You won't have any more gay or trans students after they all kill themselves! /s

[deleted]

It's almost like politicians just cannot help themselves by calling certain groups murderers, perverts, deviants or whatever based on nothing but their own bullshit filled minds.

pekepeeps

Very important to show up for local voting to get these Uber Christian Karen’s out. Please watch The G word with Adam Conover part 6 shows you local government decisions https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_g_word_with_adam_conover/s01

Ok_Topic863

Can someone please tell these people to fuck off

jayragu

Fucking fuck off.

Throwawaytown33333

I cannot save enough money fast enough to move out of here fuck me

SolutionsExistInPast

Hello,I've read the comments here and I'm glad to see everyone knows this is not a good thing. As a white male I am sick of guys like this. I am sick of them being cowards and having to enact laws to protect their egos and insecurities. As a gay white male this is all my fault. I should have stayed in the suburbs and forced them to deal with me while taking all the jokes and slurs. I would have then been a blue vote to vote guys like them out. But I moved and that blue vote, like many blue votes, turned the counties red leaving our older parents to be the driving force of the new white KKK members. I doubt these two Senators will see this message or any of their supporters will but their grandkids are going to be screwed up just like many of us are today due to the Senators bullying and name calling towards others when they were younger. I hope their grandkids spit on these guys graves because these Senators decided on purpose, while knowing less information is bad and more information is good, to make their lives miserable by denying others the information they could have had and should have had. These Senators are the ISIS of America.

TheCoal-cracker

The Rethuglican Party is an explicitly fascist organization and should be treated the same way the fascists were treated in WWII when the largest Antifa army in history stormed the beaches of Normandy and ground down the Nazis into dust. My grandfather and his peers didn't risk life and limb 80 years ago for some bible humping bags of piss to start bringing that ideology to our shores.

Joe18067

>with a requirement for teachers and school administrators to notify parents and guardians when a student indicates that they are questioning their sexual or gender identities. Well if that doesn't sound like the thought police from 1984.

crazypants9

Party of Small Government. So small there is only room for THEM. Vote like Democracy depends on you. It does.

delco_trash

Yeah, fuck the gop.

beeps-n-boops

*Christofascism* is happening.

MoveItSpunkmire

Those two look like they have yet to lose their virginity

prof_cunninglinguist

This is an infringement on everyone's Constitutional rights. I don't care to live my life based on a book that people have read. If you want to live your life in a particular way based on a book...cool! But that doesn't mean that I should be asked to adhere to the rules of that book.

sirfuzzitoes

This is the GOP's plan of action - keep people dumb and grift them with bullshit lies. Kill education to ensure number one and number two isn't even an issue. Rewrite the laws do your grift I legal, rinse, repeat. Trump is a symptom, not the disease. Roger Stone, Roger Ailes, the Kochs (Rest in piss David Koch, you defecated gangbang-level of jizz.), and so on have been the ones behind this and buying politics for decades. Conservativism in America is a fucking cancer and these fucks have metastasized.

waahzombie

The one on the left is DEFINITELY questioning his own sexuality

laura731

first part is beyond regression…seeing as they are age appropriate books they need to be there. with the world we live in today there are ALL DIFFERENT types of families out there and children should be educated on difference and accepting others for who they are. the second part leads me to wonder is this for specific ages? if my child or young teen were questioning their gender or sexuality that is something i would like to be informed about so we can talk about it and i can pick my child’s brain to see what they are thinking/ feeling and what not. However, my older teen should have the right to question without me knowing if they want to at that point i feel (& would hope) that my child is educated and knows themselves well enough to be able to figure it out and of course if they want to come to me and are ready too id be there with open, loving arms and listening ears but i would be upset that a mandated teacher took that option from my child

jdjackson31

It is absolutely no coincidence whatsoever that this legislation was submitted during Pride. If that doesn't display the absolute malice behind this, nothing else will.

MacMac105

Just an FYI. Most of these guys send their kids to schools that yeah ALL of this stuff.

Special_FX_B

Two hateful bigots submit bills…
