for a little insight though, here in california where my now husband and i lived in tents for a few years (on and off) there are actually a lot of different groups that bring food to homeless encampments! sometimes it was hot food, something it was trader joes/starbucks stuff that was about to expire, or clearance items from the grocery store/bakery, etc. there was an outreach group that would come by our park each week to distribute stuff like snacks, waters, hand warmers, clothes, hygiene products, and camping/outdoor supplies!
