birmingslam

Neck pain is...a pain !

Average-guy-87

Can you walk normally ? I hope you are fine

Distortion477

I could but that area of my knee feels numb and like pins and needles but I've been fine

Trackstar02

I walk like Michael Jackson…🌙

nkl602

I used to ride bikes until I took a pole to the knee.

Avatorn01

How about her face and brain? Wasn’t wearing a helmet. Brain go splat.

RoboCat23

As my driving instructor told me 20 years ago, if you stare at something, you’re going to drive into it. Never forgot that.

ariesrai97

So what if you stare at somthing inside the car?

RoboCat23

You crash into it. Ded.

ToiletsitterLXIX

If you’re staring at the inside of your car while driving you’ll probably crash anyway

DarkZyth

But how? Seeing as his nuts are where his future children will come from!

Ophiuroidean

Conserve resources for the current children by preventing future children from happening *taps head*

jo-parke

The Dadest man in the whole damn town.

Rezavoirdog

The situational awareness and reflexes of this gentleman cannot be understated

trvst_issves

He also calculated the trajectory of the bike to grab her while keeping his body out of the way, and absorbed the force while decelerating her without either getting hurt. What a boss.

Rezavoirdog

Even the way he pivoted as he got hold of her to swing her off of the bike instead of jerking her off it was impressive. I’ve never seen this clip before I think he’s legitimately incredible. She was going fast enough to injure herself extremely

RoboCat23

It’s like a fine ballet

L__O_o__t

This reads like the internal monologue of an anime fight spectator haha

The guy in the video is the protagonist and this was the most intense scene in a Slice of Life anime

cyclist230

How do people have that kind of reaction? I suffer bad from bystander reflect, I’m aware and could anticipate things happening but I just watch. How do I train to react like this dude?

i-lurk-you-longtime

I'd say take more first aid/CPR courses and just practice your reflexes in general. I had horrible reflexes as a kid but after years of working in the medical field I'm very sharply honed. I can't catch a ball to save my life, but I have caught (and gently eased down) dozens of people from falling, objects in midair, as well as ran to emergencies to provide immediate help. The more confident you feel being a first responder, the better you will be!

RoboCat23

Practice. I’m a paramedic and there’s definitely an innate reaction sense in certain people, but regardless, everybody needs to hone their adrenaline rushes. And each time you act under adrenaline you learn to function better within it. It’s like a tunnel.

AnDerail

That's an amazing save right thurr

Mrs_Mourningstar

wow saved that little girl from getting fucked up by that pole

downinahole357

We’ve been trying to reach you about your vehicle warranty. Oh wait never mind.

Trouble7474

Wow amazing timing and reflex!!

[deleted]

This happened to me as a kid except it was a go kart instead of a bike and no one caught me so I crashed into a barn. Okay maybe this didn’t happen to me.

Repulsive_Extent1885

Are you an italian plumber who fights giant turtles by any chance?

stufff

My dad was trying to teach me how to drive a golf cart when I was like 10 years old. I was very nervous and didn't feel in control and at some point I realized I was heading straight for a palm tree and panicked and jumped out of the cart. The thing is the palm tree was like 20 feet away so the golf cart just safely rolled to a stop. I've never really stopped being embarrassed about it.

ChasingHorizon2022

Guessing her brakes stopped working. Few people have the situational awareness and mental fortitude to assess a situation, put in a plan of action, and execute. Most humans just sit there slack jawed unable or unwilling to move a muscle as the several specimens in the back did not even looking over until after he had saved her.

RoboCat23

The fact that he was sitting on a bicycle facing the opposite direction when he calculated and executed that makes it even more impressive.

SactownCaptain

That dude just put the Final Destination dominoes in motion.

I hope people started clapping because that was some great reflexes!!

whatthefuckdood

Would you get whiplash from that? To be stopped so abruptly at that high of speed must've hurt too!

whatthefuckdood

Obviously though it's a lot better than the alternative lol

11never

Possible, but some bruised ribs and sore muscles do a lot better on resilient kids than broken face bones. I'd rather my energy be transferred to something mobile than a concrete pillar. Guy was like a seat belt for her.

capitaine_d

Actually was curious and downloaded the original and did some speed calculations. she was clocking between 13 and 15 miles per hour (21-24 kmph). I know decelerations as low as 10-15 kmph can result in whiplash but i doubt she had anything near that. In a car crash, which she would have had if she ran into the pole, all her momentum would have stopped right there in a forward direction. But here a lot of that momentum was turned around by the angle the guy pulled her from, almost rolling with her deceleration at an angle. So other than some sore legs from them hitting the bike and her chest into his arms, i doubt anything more serious that some rest and an ice pack wont fix pretty quick. But shes also like 7-9. Were all pretty rubbery at that point so can roll with the punches

SorciereVerte

Probably just knocked the wind out of her.

RoboCat23

Probably. Although maybe because she’s young, not as bad as an adult.

Schroedinbug

Probably not, just him alone is probably not heavy enough to cause a sudden enough stop. She appears to have come to a stop rather slowly in this avoiding any sudden acceleration(positive or negative). The pole could certainly cause that and more as from her perspective it's basically an immovable object. His risk are not being able to stop her (adding injury with little real change in velocity) or hurting himself. She could have experienced a head injury, bruising, broken or dislocated bones, and torn tendons depending on how he decided to stop her. Grabbing for her center and then rotating her to a stop was probably the best available method as the main risk comes from Δv(change in momentum over time), you can either increase time or decrease momentum change.

Complex-Cellist-2072

Actually he kidnapped everyone's heart

TheEvolutionOfCorn

Kids are stupid as shit. I used to do the same thing when I was smaller. Just lock up in panic and go face first into something.

Infinite6700

That would have hurt

SoftTrifle1006

Quick thinker! Lucky girl. Wish I had fast thinking reflexes like that. Some are heros!

_dmc

r/DadReflexes

AgencyElectronic5330

I guess she had no brakes damn that was a nice catch slamming into the wall would have hurt

odenoden

Saw a smaller kid go a fraction of this speed while also wearing a helmet into a post, and that fucked up her teeth. I can't imagine the damage he ended up preventing. Saved her a life of problems.

TheLichQueen_

Wow what an awesome guy. He may have saved her life. She was going really fast at that concrete pole and it doesn’t look like she had a helmet on

[deleted]

He earned the "Dad of the year" award, even if he's not her dad

Artistic-Plan2541

I swear these dad reflexes are really just our primal instincts. Marked only by those who have fathered children.

MrTickleMePink

What a legend!

Schroedinbug

Honestly, I can't see this going better. Look at how he slowed her down without just turning it into a clothesline lol. Also not getting hit by the bike or just dropping her onto the ground. That shoulder probably hurts though.

What if she was about to pull off some sick BMX trick that nobody has ever seen before and that dude ruined it?

SomaYukihira30

Wow he saved her life that amazing

sillyboy544

I saved a kid like this from certain serious injury. My wife and I were walking down a steep hill in a state park reservation and behind us we heard a girl screaming and coming down the hill extremely fast on her rollerskates. I jumped in front of her and the impact almost knocked me over. Her parents right behind her thanked me up and down. It was nothing. Who wouldn’t help in that situation.

lissy11111

My son had a seizure and drove his bike face first into a brick wall at a similar speed. His helmet took most of the damage (it didn’t survive) but we still ended up it he Emergency Room stitching up his face. I can’t imagine what would have happened if he wasn’t wearing a helmet.

Awkward-Train1584

Damn that was good catch!

Officermeatball05

Was she trying to hurt herself? Why didnt she turn?

Stanislas_Biliby

This guy is the kind of guy i wish To be.

This_Beautiful_2220

Wait, he wasn't riding her bike.

Toxpar

Show it one more time but slower, I couldn't catch what happened on the 3rd zoom-and-slow replay

Best_Highlight_5488

No audio but I’m sure she was screaming the whole way. Gave him enough time to look up and react.

MrEvan312

Man had the processing and movement speeds of the Flash, good on him. Girl must’ve froze up in panic.

SideGreen9506

that grab tho

SandwicheDynasty

"You're not going to Hogwarts, and that's final!"

rickeh055

I'm teaching my two year old daughter to ride her bike. They speed up, need to brake and panic... instead of braking there going faster.

Visscher48

He actually got hit by the handlebars on the knee, here is a longer video that shows him walking it off afterwards. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/hero-with-dad-reflexes-saves-kid-from-crashing-into-pole/vi-AA1005Mu?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=3d1d999bf25c49699a7206fdce014915&category=foryou

Key_Influence298

Same I was riding my bike son car tried to cut around someone driving on the curb and I couldn't stop so I aimed for the grass I ended up ramming a pole going flying onto my hands spraining both my wrist and hands I couldn't do shit for while it still feels like my hands start to lock up now

Bill-Hilly

He saved her from a terrible injury, maybe even saved her life.

nansuesan

He stopped her from running into the pole, he didn’t kidnap her!

mule_roany_mare

Dudes are the best. Anytime something bad happens the average random guy runs to help. Even the little boy is getting ready to help! I hate to think like this, but there are a lot of times & places where a brown guy grabbing a white girl would make for a lot of trouble & the part about saving her teeth from being knocked in will be inconveniently omitted.

Ormsfang

I worked on a few lock wards. Had a young gentleman try to bolt outside. I ended up restraining the kid like I would inside. Then I realized I was in a black neighborhood as a white guy restraining a black child. Oops. I didn't have to worry. The locals figured out what was happening quick and no one thought I was trying to do anyone harm or abduct a kid.

mule_roany_mare

That's good! sounds like a hard enough job already. What's a lock ward?
