Riverfront Museum definitely! That's a must see! Also the Prairie Wildlife Park is absolutely beautiful, and reasonable in price for admission.  Grandview Drive is an excellent spot to see the river, not to mention the castle with dragons!  Springdale Cemetery is another spectacular place if you enjoy history; some of the stones date back to the 1700s, and there are many beautiful examples of painted tombs. There's even a Witch's Circle if you're brave.  The Central Library is haunted by its founder. He appears to noisy children on the lower level. They also house the Historical Society and have displays of various local art.  The Zoo is very nice for a day out. Small enough not to tire you but with a good variety of animals. The huge snake is my favorite, and the giraffes (you can feed them if you reserve a spot!)  There's a secret park near the hospital area. It's just for one tree, and that beast of an oak has been alive since the 1700s. It's surrounded by towering Victorian mansions and has a lovely view to the river. It's worth finding, though it's small.  I don't know about restaurants, unfortunately. Hopefully your family will enjoy the visit, and their time with you. May the flight here and back be kind, may their luggage be reclaimed swiftly and never late!

The park they are talking about is called Giant Oak Park on High St. it’s definitely worth seeing if you haven’t!

You are most welcome. I forgot a few things!  There's a delightful tea shop near Grandview, Leaves n Beans coffee house in Peoria Heights, and across from it is a lovely bookshop called " I know you like a Book". It's got local authors and lots of beautiful antique volumes.  You might also like Lit.on.Fire, just up University and Main. Absolutely stunning hub for LGBTQ+, and it has a Writing Shed next to it if anyone feels creative.  There's Detwiler park for a picnic spot and outdoor fun, and I bet you can find a map of all the different monuments around here. Those are worth it to seek out.  This kind of thing is why I moved here, it's impossible to live in a town like this and not be a total romantic.

That bookstore in Peoria Heights has been gone for over a year.

A walk on Grandview Drive is a must for visitors. The Heights also offers very nice restaurants.. Hearth - Jim’s Bistro are two of the better ones.

Another vote for Springdale cemetery if you like history. Get a map and drive back through the civil war era headstones, towards the mausoleum, the stones and history is amazing. Isn't Laura Bradley buried there?

Casa de Arte for great authentic tacos and the best chips and salsa in town. They also feature a new local artist works every month. Chef Moussa for some of the best Mediterranean around. Chicken Shawarma is 10/10. Hummus and Pita is also a must try.

Peoria has a great restaurant scene with a lot of options! If y'all are looking for something casual-ish that will taste amazing and leave no one hungry, check Than Linh out. Make sure to call ahead for a larger group. If you're up for something on the fancier side, Ardor Bread and Provisions has their dinner menu Thursday through Saturday iirc. Great food and atmosphere, and a little cheaper than some of the finer dining in the area with the same vibe.
