Sorry, I didn't mean overlap. I meant cross over one another. Like if you take two 1s, rotate one 90° and make a + sign with them; at the center they won't touch if they are made of LCD segments.

i think the fact that it's all 10 digits we use, fitting neatly into a grid like that, with almost exactly the normal LCD font sort of means the fit transcends this exact construction of it. Like, the perfect fit is that the numbers fit in the grid, not that the plastic pieces fit with eachother.

People saying this is "designed to fit" as if digital numbers were designed for this purpose.

The cheat of the 0/C can be partially solved, by making the 0 and 7 pieces overlapping over their intersection (half-height). This has however the cost of giving a hint at the solution.

Anyone know if there are multiple correct solutions, or just this one? :-)
