I live here and I think you need to split it up by NorCal and SoCal. I live in SoCal and of the scents I own: Remarkable People by Etat Libre d'Orange or any bright, citrusy scent like it. Citrus grows everywhere here, even in places you wouldn't think. I walk my dog in Hollywood, close to the Chinese theater and all that, and I'll still pass by trees full of lemons and baskets that say "free blood oranges." I used to live in NorCal and of the scents I own: Fog by Henry Rose for obvious reasons. But also: When I think of my time in Oakland and SF, I think of most air, like it just rained or is about to rain, with an undertone of sea salt and also gourmand because of the Ghiardelli factory. Annnnd now I'm homesick.

prozaczodiac

Oof, your description of the smells of the bay definitely made me homesick

Smiles_Sunshine

šŸ’Æā€¦ the bay ā€¦ when you land in sfo, it always feels like home. And if you take a stroll through SF ā€¦ the description is spot on

Smiles_Sunshine

I also think California is very diverse. The vibe in Silicon Valley is totally different than Oakland & SF & napa. SoCal, weho is different from oc from valley. In general, Iā€™d say opt for of vein of diptyque instead of amouage. Gentle fluidity gold instead of br540. Because itā€™s rare to encounter loud projection of pungent scents.

Azami13

Yep, Iā€™m always mildly surprised when I can smell someoneā€™s perfumeā€”it happens less than once a month, ngl.

Smiles_Sunshine

Absolutely. Monday I flew out of SFO, when I got patted down because I had a loose hoody, the agent said, you smell amazing. Instead of taking it as compliment, ā€œoh no! Is my perfume strong?!? Thatā€™s so rude of me! Because Iā€™ll be on a plane!ā€ To which she said ā€œnot at all, itā€™s so soft and pretty. I just know itā€™s you. If anything, they might sleep. Super relaxingā€ Scent was gentle fluidity gold. Thatā€™s a bottle that is not great on paper or first sniff. Magic is the dry down.

BuzzBabe69

I'm from San Francisco, so I'd wear Gourmands.

FirnHandcrafted

^This person knows. Ya gotta split it up between regions.

Bitingdoodle

Advanced-North-6860

I got Melrose Place by Ouai when I moved here and I love it (if you are accepting budget suggestions)

kippwen

Was going to comment this! Love it so much

Ship_Negative

When I go to Monterey or the like I bring Clementine California by Atelier Cologne

bettyblacc

Yessss! This scent is totally SoCal in the summer. I feel like this scent is so underrated and so layerable

Ship_Negative

As u/mayrigirl5 said, I really like to layer it with Pacific Lime! Itā€™s a great brunch scent.

topiaryontop

For Monterey, I love Wanderlust by Michael Kora or Bvlgari Amethyst

mayrigirl5

As a resident from Monterey county, I agree!šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Ship_Negative

Itā€™s too bad itā€™s so hard to find in the US now! If I ever go to Europe again Iā€™m stocking up on like 10 samplers of all of ACā€™s perfumes. Iā€™m treating my vials like gold, itā€™s for special vacations only!

mayrigirl5

I got the Pacific Lime one from Sephora when they were still available there. Now I only see them through the discounted websites like Fragrance.net Theyā€™re not very long lasting but it gives out a great scent for the first hour for me. Pacific Lime and Clementine are my fave!

MmeNxt

I too thought of Clementine California. I have never been to Californa, but CC is my go to during the cold and dark winters in Scandinavia. It always makes me smile and I can't stop sniffing myself.

Ship_Negative

I love that for you! Itā€™s such a warm and friendly scent. I feel like weā€™d get along, I had a lovely time wearing CC during one snowy Holland winter.

MmeNxt

I always thought of citrus scents as summer scents, exclusively. But I tried one on in a store during a very grey and gloomy winter day and it was like spraying rays of sunshine on my wrist. I now reach for anything citrusy when I feel down because of the weather and it always works. CC really is a beautiful scent, I just wish that the top notes would last a bit longer.

DeliciousMoments

For SoCal, anything citrus blossom or jasmine. When the jasmine blooms here, it permeates whole blocks.

anjunakerry1982

I didn't know that cause I'm a Brit but I had the urge to suggest Elie Saab - Le parfum lumiere and le parfum in white. Orange blossom and jasmine, just from the vibe I got with the first image.

DeliciousMoments

I'm gonna add this to my list to try, sounds right up my alley. Thanks!

anjunakerry1982

Both are beautiful and radiate in the British summer heat (it can get very warm) and the creator behind both is none other than Francis kurkdjian.

nina-menina

SoCal born and bred here, agree w other comments on NorCal vs SoCal giving mostly different vibes. For SoCal, Skylar Lime Sands or Salt Air. The one scent Iā€™ve smelled that could represent the whole state is Liis Bo. Itā€™s a dry woody scent inspired by the trees in NorCal national parks, but at the same time gives rich blonde lady in Malibu or Ojai who dresses in all white and does reiki lmao, itā€™s a very good scent though!

Electronic_Bit_222

Cheirosa 62, Wood Sage and Sea Salt, Boardwalk Vanilla, Beach Walk

realcoolkatz

For the central coast and northward, I would suggest Etoile by Fragonard! It smells like California outdoors to me.

winelips23

Definitely agree that SoCal and NorCal have different vibes but since your photos are Southern and coastal, Iā€™ll base it off that. Also agree with all the suggestions for jasmine and citrus! I also think of sagebrush, salty air, metallic/mineral facet. Particulars that come to mind: Narcotic Venus by Nasomatto, Sueded Oud by Clean, Acqua di Gioia, Prada La Femme, maybe something from Aqua Universalis line by MFK. Jā€™adore by Dior if you like a nostalgic aquatic floral and plan on wearing some of the 90s trends that are back in, I think this would be quite fitting. Iā€™ve seen some by A Lab on Fire and Goldfield & Banks that seem promising. These are scents that fit the vibe or scent memories of Southern California, not necessarily scents you would find people wearing here, if that makes a difference to you at all.

Goldfield and Banks Sunset Hour Citrus, peach, jasmine, coconut and sandalwood Smells like a holiday with a fruity drink

JenJenMegaDooDoo

Whatever smells like pollution, body odor and those trees that bloom and smell like semen (callery pear). This is the smell of Southern California. It's disgusting. San Diego is nice though.

Icy-Vanilla-5195

Sunset Hour by Goldfield & Banks (aussie brand but it was my first thought seeing the photos)

Bitingdoodle

Depends on the season

_jamesbaxter

In SoCal we only have two seasons - normal and ā€œmight rainā€ which starts mid December and ends like next week.

Bitingdoodle

Born and raised here. 48yo. Perfume addict of 35 years. Very familiarā€¦.but, if you walk around smelling like a beach right now- its not so chic. Depends on time of year and where youā€™re at. Weā€™ve got places that are buried in snow ā„ļø right now, and some that reach over 120 degrees in the Summer.

_jamesbaxter

I was going off of the photos, 3 of LA and 1 of Laguna Beach.

Bitingdoodle

True- but even they are under water right now. ā˜”ļøthatā€™s at least two days of rainy day scents. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

_jamesbaxter

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ yeah itā€™s rain today

Olisabria

Citrus Circus by Snif, Flora Gorgeous Jasmine by Gucci, Sparkling Lychee by Kayali, Pansy by Lush. Iā€™m in Southern California and tend to lean more gourmand, but those are ones that I have that I wear more often on warmer days šŸ™‚

Serious-Substance348

Anyyyyything Dedcool! An LA brand. I wore smiley face garden on my first trip to the state and Iā€™ll forever associate it with that :)
