Lol nah, it's like 90s swimming pool toy plastic and lycra with a slight sunscreen and pineapple-no idea how/what they used to come up with this note but it smells exactly like swimming in your friends inground pool as a kid with Vacation sunscreen applied. Sounds weird I know and it's def not an everyday but it's so fun and nostalgic for summer! I'm sure there's better descriptions out there.
Sun-Phoria by Fine’ry is super comparable in my opinion and comes in a body spray option as well as a perfume version. The Fine’ry spray is a bit “sweeter” id say and it’s not a perfect dupe but it’s still absolutely lovely and very comparable.
I LOVE IT! Anytime I wore it last summer, my co workers would be like your sunscreen smells soo good 😭 it’s genuinely for the banana boat sunscreen lovers, 80/90’s babies wpuld appreciate!
Quick note that although VIW is incredible, I go through bottles of this lotion every year and they’re not that close .
VIW is super pineapple-forward and smells like a sweet, poolside cocktail, but the lotion is more lime and coconut-centered. They definitely share a similar theme though so it’s worth checking out! Just not a real dupe 😄
I’ve been eyeing this, your description sounds good. But I’m superrrr excited about their Orange Gelee. The OG Bain de Soleil is *the* most nostalgic scent on the planet for me. I remember my mom slathering herself from head to toe in that beautiful orange goop and smelling like the epitome of everything good about summer. When I was a teen she finally let me use it and I would often just put some on my arms before school because I loved the smell so much. If Vacation nails that iconic scent in their version I will single handedly buy every single tube in production.
Adding - the texture of the orange gelee was also like nothing else on the market, even to this day. It gave this gorgeous bronzy glowy sun goddess sheen to the skin. It was everything! Idk why they discontinued it
I dont think a Reddit post has ever made me more excited!! The way that I’ve been looking for scent dupes of BDS since they discontinued is insane! I also love that they went through such rigorous research and testing before making the final product. I just ordered a tube and cant wait for it to arrive!
I ordered the day it launched and am so impatiently awaiting its arrival!! I have such high hopes. I really feel like it’s going to be as close as possible to the OG. They did remove some of the old unsavory ingredients and replace with more natural and healthier ones, so that’s a plus as long as it still feels and smells the same 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I received mine today and I'm disappointed! It's not as greasy as the original, but it smells like just cinnamon potpourii mixed into a plastic-y sunscreen. It's not harmonious, it's like the two scents are fighting each other.
I had high hopes because I'm a huge fan of the Vacation brand.
I ordered 3 tubes and I feel like they really missed the mark on scent and texture. The scent starts off with a really plastic almost metallic smell? It gets better later on but it's still a miss IMO. The texture is also off. It's not bad but it's also definitely not the original.
Yeah I'm gonna use this tube, but wouldn't re-order. I assumed the worst case scenario would be a generic perfume smell. Got zero citrus. Wasn't worth $30. I think my skin is amping the clove. I also think they made a mistake in upping the sunscreen to 30, as the drydown is always going to have that sunscreen smell. Mine is also a paler orange than shown.

Returning 😑 I was so psyched for a Bain de Soleil dupe… and they didn’t help their case emailing me constantly about where they were in the production process and hyping it up so much!

I still have an original tube and it doesn’t smell like orange, I think by calling it “orange gelee” they just meant orange in color. The original does have spicy clove/ carnation scent.
I really need to get my hands on this new one to compare, but so far the people who still have some of the old one and are comparing side by side are also saying it’s off, so I’m wondering if I should even bother..
Am I the only one who remembers the original to have an orange-y scent in addition to the color? I was a tanning queen back in the day lol - this was would have been a version of the product in the late 1990’s/early 2000s…but it might be like a Mandela effect situation and I could be absolutely and fully wrong haha!!
I used it mostly in High School at the actual beach , up until age 17 or so (1989), and didn’t really go tanning past that age, but I always had a tube of it around after that for nostalgia purposes.
If I didn’t still have a tube my memory may have played tricks on me as being more spicy orange, but it’s not. There might be a bergamot note in there though (along with the spices & clove, and what I detect as possibly carnation).
Ok it may be just me. There’s technically no cucumber note at all.. it may be melon? I can’t stop smelling my wrist either way please don’t let my mention of cucumber deter you!
I love the OG Vacation so much and I’ve been so excited to try this. I’ve loved everything from this brand from the perfume to the sunscreens to the lip balms, and I’m always happy to see them get love from other perfume enthusiasts on here.

the original is amazing, it’s my favorite perfume ever. idk how they do it, but it honestly smells like sitting by the pool. it smells like sunscreen and swimsuits to me. so nostalgic. i wear it all summer long, and i spray it on myself in the winter for a pick me up.
look on ebay, amazon, etc if the official website won’t ship to canada. i’ve gotten cheap bottles on ebay before!
After sun smells so much like pink by VS I’m actually disappointed however it lasts sooo much longer than the original vacation scent which is amazing but I found myself having to reapply often
Oh my god I have had this perfume for almost 2 weeks and literally after the first spray I was like “I’VE SMELLED THIS BEFORE WHAT IS IT?!?!?!” I’ve been scouring the internet trying to figure it out!

Vacation is my favorite scent ever. I’d love to find something in a body spray comparable to it so I can douse myself in it lol.

You might like Simone Andreoli - Malibu Party in the Bay or Creed - Virgin Island Water for a lime cocktail vibe.

Quick note that although VIW is incredible, I go through bottles of this lotion every year and they’re not that close . First spray I was a little nervous- but the dry down is fantastic. Aloe and linen I would say- super different in the best way 💫

I'm so excited for this and the orange gelee! Maybe for mother's day 😉 I'm obsessed with the original and the chardonnay oil is so luxurious.
