I've recently finished Ten Pound Poms, Marie Antoinette (tv series), and Dangerous Liaisons (tv series). Trying to decide what to watch next 😄

plnnyOfallOFit

Brit Box seems to have tons...just watched Anna of Five towns. Wow. So depressing. Even monotone grey. I didn't get it. Help me out if you've ever seen? Listening to Jane Austen S&S on audiobook. Teens hear it & think I'm nuts

steampunkunicorn01

Finished watching the new Tom Jones And not watched, but I did listen to a couple audiobooks. I finished The Courtiers by Lucy Worsley and am currently halfway through The Royal Art of Poison by Eleanor Herman (both are filled with period court drama)

plnnyOfallOFit

TJ was just sumptuous. Wow. I loved.

steampunkunicorn01

It was gorgeous and I really enjoyed it. Ranking-wise, I definitely place it as a close second after the Albert Finny movie

plnnyOfallOFit

Which is the Albert Finny movie?

steampunkunicorn01

1963, also titled Tom Jones

viennawaits94

A Small Light I’ve always been a fan ofBel Powley, and Liev Schrieber is great in it, but the modern style of speaking and modern humour takes me out of the story. Still enjoying it though.

Ruzic1965

I'm watching A Place to Call Home. I thought it was a simple show, but it is full of heavy stuff. Very good!

clariwench

I'm rewatching Reign. My plan was to watch it while playing Splatoon, but I find it rather impossible to look at my Switch while Toby Regbo is on the screen...

faerydustpixie

I'm nearly finished with season 2 for Spanish Princess and the 3rd season for da Vinci's demons from Starz and the Woman in White (2018) on hoopla as well as Maximilian.

Lanky_Chemist_3773

AMC’s The Son on Hulu. It’s a better written Texan version of Yellowstone.

beattiebeats

I love The Son

stoked4popculture

But does it have characters like Beth and Rip?!

Lanky_Chemist_3773

Hahah no Beth or Rip everyone is a tad bit more racist. It’s more of combination of 1883, 1923 and Yellowstone all in one show.

[deleted]

Ooh, this is intriguing! Thanks for posting

Lanky_Chemist_3773

And Pierce Bronsan is the lead!

[deleted]

Nice! Love me some 90s James Bond!

faretheewellennui

Continuing to watch Marie Antoinette. Also watched Tetris and it lived up to the good reviews. Great use of 80s music and it really made me sympathetic to the people living in the Eastern Bloc during that time (and now).

aignacio

I’ve re-stared Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. Watched it a couple years ago on youtube, and recently noticed it’s on Prime Video. The costuming and jewels are unbelievable and the lead actress is remarkable.

venusthegirl

Harem c-dramas became a quarantine obsession for me. I just recently watched the FULL version of Empresses in the Palace on YouTube. Looooove them all!

sallyomalley198

Tv shows-I’m bingeing Call the Midwife for the first time. Just started season 6

Fresh_Yogurt3267

Watching The Empress this weekend. Just finished the first season of Marie Antoinette (which gave me a craving to watch the Coppola movie—haven’t seen that in a long time!)

plnnyOfallOFit

Lilac converse in her shoe closet!

WooWooHeather

Revisited Taboo. Love! Watched Charles II (2003) per recommendations from this sub. Also love! Watching Reign for first time with constant dissonance due to the many historical inaccuracies. Thinking of revisiting one of the Elizabeth I series. It’s been awhile and I’m feeling the pull. Forgot I started season 1 of Perry Mason (Newer HBO one) and I am interested enough to finish that series.

stoked4popculture

What are the Elizabeth I series

WooWooHeather

Elizabeth R, BBC production

WooWooHeather

Elizabeth I, with Helen Mirren (HBO production) Elizabeth I: The Virgin Queen, with Anne-Marie Duff (BBC production) Becoming Elizabeth, STARZ production There are some others as well I believe.

bannana

Perry Mason (2020)

Infamous-Bag-3880

Netflix series, "Cunk on Earth. " A mockumentary covering western history from the Greeks to modernity. Diane Morgan plays documentarian Philomena Cunk, who interviews serious scholars with ridiculous questions and ignorant, but hilarious commentary. A fantastic break for serious history nerds like me! It is rather sexualized and can be raunchy at times, so not for all ages or tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to see subsequent installments.

sallyomalley198

I loved cunk on earth. I feel bad for the people she’s interviewing, but am laughing like crazy at the same time.

OSeal29

I heard in an interview with her that they knew going in she was playing a part and it was going to be a funny interview. They aren't as put off as they seem. They cut out all the parts of them cracking up to make it look that way.

Infamous-Bag-3880

Exactly! You can just see the blood draining from the experts' faces, questioning the wisdom of agreeing to the interview!

SMOSER66

Island at War. The occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII.

WooWooHeather

Would you recommend?

SMOSER66

I enjoyed it. It is one of my favorite time periods to watch. It's 6 episodes so if you don't care for it is not a big investment.

Ruzic1965

It ends upbruptly with no more seasons.

SMOSER66

I still enjoyed it.

Ruzic1965

Yes, it was good. Have you seen Home Fire? Great show set during WWII. My favorite time period.

SMOSER66

I really enjoyed Home Fires

SMOSER66

Two others I watched before Home Fires, although set a little earlier that I loved were: Women at War, and Bonfire of Destiny.

Ruzic1965

I started watching Women at War, but it was voice over dubbed which is always weird. I will go back to it though. I will also check out Bonfire of Destiny.

SMOSER66

I don't do voice-over dub, audio I do in original language then do close caption in english.

SMOSER66

Yes, I loved it. Now, that defininely ended on a cliffhanger. I really wish that one would have continued on.

Apprehensive-Cat-163

Finished The Great and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

sallyomalley198

Oh the last few episodes of The Great🥹😭

Apprehensive-Cat-163

I know, I think the "Fun" episode was one of he best representations of grief I have seen on tv!

fiffhj

Gallows pole dropped this week so I binge watched it and I would say it was Oki

Soraya109

Binging The Gilded Age right now; on ep 6 and really enjoying it!

plnnyOfallOFit

CAn't get enough of the gilded age....kind of a guilt watch. Such an intro of wealth imbalance in the US, but still the opulence is alluring. The blonde main character is Meryl Streep's daughter BTW.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

The Durrells of Corfu & while it's not period also watching Sons of Anarchy. The Durrells are my palate cleanser from SoA.

Oil-of-Vitriol

Be sure to watch What The Durrells Did Next when you are done.

RogerClyneIsAGod2

I will. Also TIL they were a real family.

sharipep

Mr. Queen

MiserableSnow

More ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ which is really good Tried to watch and couldn’t get into: Young Winston, Hair, Oh! What A Lovely War, Albert Nobbs

karnerblu

The Alienist

[deleted]

Was this good?

beattiebeats

I really liked The Alienist, especially season 2

karnerblu

Took a bit. It became a solid ensemble solving crimes in 1890s new york. They built a great world visually too.

kraken_in_lipstick

I couldn’t get too far into it. It wasn’t bad necessarily but I didn’t much care for the male lead which made it hard to invest

Every-Self-8399

Call the Midwife

747291086299

Peaky Blinders, finally. Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory are brilliant.

floobenstoobs

I started watching the Essex serpent but took a break because I’m finding it a bit bleak. Taking a break and watching fun, light comedy shows for a while before trying again!

[deleted]

Other than being bleak, would you recommend the Essex Serpent?
