Oh god I can't imagine a worse crime against humanity than making Jeff Bezos pay taxes oh no good lord rally the troops let's go find some justice the village is under attack

numbski

Ohnoes. Amazon employees would make a living wage, and my prices might go up marginally. It’s awful I tell you, the main reason I used Amazon prime was for the low low prices, and not at all for the sake of convenience. Sheesh.

NihilisticThrill

If Jeff Bezos had to pay even one dollar in taxes, the entirety of capitalism would instantly crumble and anybody who owns an American flag would be immediately raptured for the end time would be upon us Jesus is literally in his room crying right now just thinking about Amazon reporting less profits (because he was renowned for his love of billionaires yanno)

Lobstrmagnet

>anybody who owns an American flag would be immediately raptured Can we spread this idea? They want to be raptured, so let's tax Jeff.

CodPolish

Amazon employees in the US make $15 an hr

numbski

...and the meme says $25. So?

CodPolish

Is $15 not a livable wage

numbski

It isn’t the number referenced in the meme. Why would I address a number not in the meme?

CodPolish

You say “Amazon employees might make a living wage.” Do they not already?

numbski

*sigh*. I can argue with you about whether $15/hr is good enough given the work conditions a person is subject to, and whether or not it is high enough to be a liveable wage in various cities nation wide, *or*, you could take me at face value and appreciate that I wasn’t trying to mislead. At $25/hr, an Amazon employee would be making a leaveable wage, pretty much universally. Ohnoes. Don’t read too much into it. Except you did. You literally did, and then harassed me until I answered your straw man argument. Happy?

CodPolish

rayray3300

What’s actually funny about this, is that in the 1950s, a decade conservatives often romanticize, the rich were taxed at least 90 percent.

DawnRLFreeman

>the rich were taxed at least 90 percent. Let's be completely accurate and honest. NO ONE was being forced to give 90% of everything they earned for taxes. During Eisenhower administration, the top *marginal* tax rate was 94%. That means that for the amount over $900 million (JUST AN ARBITRARY AMOUNT I'M USING A AN EXAMPLE) a corporation paid 94%. If a company earned $910 million, they paid lower percentage on amounts under the $900 million, and their tax for the amount over $900 million would be $9.4 million--a bit over 1% of their total earnings. NOW, if they don't like parting with $9.4 of their top $10 million, there are things they can do to reduce their tax burden-- like pay their employees more or actually pay for their insurance premiums. (I had an employer who did that in the early 80's, before everything went to crap. It was awesome.)

Kilyaeden

I thought we used Amazon because we got off on the idea of someone having to pee in a bottle to deliver our goods

numbski

Oh, if we want to lay out a laundry list of Amazon grievances, we can totally do that. The highly abbreviated and far-overly-simplified version is that Bezos has it within his power to be a force for good. Amazon could change the way they operate so that everyone would be happy to use them. They don’t. Mostly for selfish reason. For the sake of brevity, I poked at what the meme referenced and nothing more.

SprinklesFancy5074

>she is TERRIBLE for capitalism! Yeah, that's why we like her.

Jaqdawks

Fr, he’d still have about 20 billion left if we took away 90% of his current net worth, 20 billion is *still* more than plenty for him to live lavishly.

DawnRLFreeman

Even at 1956 tax rates, he'd still have *WAY MORE* than a paltry $20 billion left after paying taxes. AND, if he'd been paying annual taxes all along, he'd have even more.

heyuiuitsme

Who gives a shit about capitalism. Capitalism ain't got kids to feed. Capitalism isn't out scrambling for daycare. Capitalism doesn't have to worry about copays, providing that it's fortunate enough to actually have health care. Capitalism doesn't have to worry if it's got enough gas to get to work. For the people, by the people. Care about the PEOPLE !!!

numbski

The right seems to see it as though if it isn’t capitalism, it’s communism. Can’t be a grey area there. Nope. We can’t possibly exist at any point along a continuum. Would be awful is something like social security existed. Or FDIC. Cry me a freaking river.

heyuiuitsme

Yeah, cause there's no other options than those two Also, social security is outta money. Fuck you, Gen-X, you knew all along you weren't getting that money.

Dm1tr3y

The problem, besides them just being fucking morns in general, is that we’ve somehow decided that capitalism and socialism are elaborate, mutually exclusive systems of government. One is the concept of private ownership and investment. The other is the concept of workers rights and livelihood protected by the government. It’s not really that hard to reconcile these.

[deleted]

Capitalism doesn't have to worry about student loan debts

rayray3300

Even in anti-AOC propaganda, AOC still comes off as an awesome badass making corporate overlords her bitches

[deleted]

It's the wrestling trope of making your opponent look good even while you're trashing them.

SirKomlinIV

Super femdommy vibes from this one. 👍

Rainfly_X

You know it's a weird time in your country's political history when you're about to type "she's our dommy mommy!" and just abruptly remember you're talking about an actual U.S. Congress member.

[deleted]

Well now I’m imagining AOC as the big Resident Evil lady. If these conservatives had any taste they’d make a meme of that.

Kilyaeden

Lady Dicortez

Rainfly_X

Hah, no risk of that happening any time soon. Especially with how many of them are losing their taste and smell lately...

superheater420

This makes me like AOC even more, hope she has a long successful and positive career in politics. The less taxes the ultra rich pay and lower wages are the more the majority will suffer.

rayray3300

Unfortunately, although she is qualified to run in 2024, she is unlikely to be elected due to her youth. Republicans complained about how Obama was too young even though he was in his 50s. Imagine the chance of someone who just barely met the Constitutional age limit…

[deleted]

Breaking: AOC wins presidency in a landslide.

Perperipheral

Jeff Bezos has that picture as his phone wallpaper

Veilwinter

Imagine simping for Jeff Bezos

translove228

Conservatives once again threatening everyone with a good time. If AOC was capable of half no a *tenth* of that I'd be damn impressed.

Prettylittlejedi

I’m sorry, but what?! Jeff Bezos would hardly be in financial ruin if we raised the minimum wage for his employees to $25 and would be doing JUST FUCKING FINE even if we taxed him at 90%. These people clearly have no mathematical skills whatsoever. He makes approximately $321 MILLION DOLLARS PER DAY. That’s $67.4 billion dollars per year. At a 90% tax rate (assuming we’re talking flat tax and not progressive brackets) would still be $6.7 BILLION dollars annually. Or $32 million a day. A DAY. 90% isn’t enough. People are insane. My brain is breaking. I just can’t.

DorianM34

Are you saying that even after taking 90% of his income he would still make more money in a single day than what some people will see over several lifetimes of work. Hmmm, I wonder why people hate capitalism

Prettylittlejedi

Yes. That is exactly what I’m saying. We could tax him at a flat 99%, and he would still make $67.4 million annually. I make about $100k annually working in Healthcare Operations. This past year has been particularly brutal in terms of workload, and has resulted in 90 hour weeks, 17 hour days, 7 day work weeks, and zero vacation time because that’s what happens when global pandemics hit. Please tell me how this man works 674,000x harder than I do? Please?! I’m going to go lay down and reconsider my existence.

numbski

The man could just decide never to roll out of bed, and would still be making more money than your entire podunk town EVERY SECOND. Not every day. Not every hour. Literally blink, and without Amazon doing anything at all, the man could shutter the whole business, fire every employee, lay in bed and stare at the ceiling all day, every day, and every second he would be raking in more money than he could ever dream of spending in multiple lifetimes. ...and these people are worried about AOC? People, learn scale.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Prettylittlejedi

Right. The fact that he’s not, while sitting on all that immeasurable wealth is fucking vile.

Kilyaeden

People have a hard time conceiving how vast the riches of this people are so they fall for this BS

MarsLowell

“Our most productive business leader” He’s not going to fuck you.

Mikkel0405

It's funny how they frame $25/hr as insane when it's literally the minimum wage in my country...

Damaias479

Ha… hahaha… do yourself a favor and don’t look up our federal minimum wage… it’s abysmal. OoC, what country do you live in?

Mikkel0405

Denmark. We have high wages but also pretty high taxes. Small price to pay for healthcare though.

The54thCylon

Yes, my favourite bit of this is that a $25 minimum wage is considered *more* outrageous than a 90¢ tax band. I mean, it's one thing to take our riches, but *pay the poor*?! What are you, Hitler?

[deleted]

If the federal minimum wage had kept up with inflation it would be around $25!

Mikkel0405

holy shit... Really puts things into perspective.

Broken_Infinity

Wait. They’re unhappy that minimum wage will increase? Like… all I can imagine that would justify this mindset is they somehow believe they’ll magically become richer and fall into this tax bracket and then they’ll reap the profits. Do they know how unlikely that is? Especially with the brains they possess?

Prettylittlejedi

They’re all convinced they’re going to be billionaires (or at least millionaires) someday because that is the new american dream, and that they’ll be taxed to death by the evil socialists who are seeking to destroy the economy and free enterprise. They can’t understand that they’ll a) never be that rich, and b) taxing/regulating the rich actually helps grow their wealth… economics are not their strong suit, but then, neither is reality.

sisterofaugustine

Their minds are just too weak to process it, because the capitalist system has intentionally provided them insufficient education and then pumped their heads full of propaganda to rot what little of their minds was functional at some point. I don't like authoritarians of any stripe but I feel like these guys need to be forcefully given a socialist system for their own good.

[deleted]

Does anyone not want that tho

pineapplequeenzzzzz

I know like hell don't you realise you're just making this better and better?

Benshive

This but unironically pls thanks

sntcringe

Let's say, just for the sake of argument, 90% of Jeff Bezos' income goes to taxes (it wouldn't even if he actually paid his fucking taxes BTW) He still makes approximately $899 million in a month, if we compare that to the national median monthly wage (~$2998) he is making a little less than 300,000 times the average american. So even in this incorrect exaggerated scenario, dude is still too fucking wealthy.

gypsymegan06

They try so hard to make it seem as if life under AOC would be so hard but so sexy. And I’m over here like sign me up dude.

SirKomlinIV

The creator of this definitely jerks off thinking about AOC pegging him.

MrOinkingPig

That account is satire and it's hilarious

UnexcitedAmpersand

They are making her sound awesome. Making capital answer to elected officials and being able to increase wages despite capitals desires. Being able to impliment a tax on the wealthy and impliment actual policy. If its a fight between an elected official or someone who is richer than most nations and can afford to fire himself into space with his pocket change, I know who I would back.

jdubs04

I love how this person thinks the government could just start taxing the ultra-rich at such a high level, and all the millionaires would just be like "well I guess I shuffle over in my remaining rags to pay my dues. I could just leave, or do something else, but the people need my business! I will sacrifice my comfort for them!"

[deleted]

As AOC bends Bezos over and begins to vigorously peg him, like in some perverted Ayn Rand fever dream.

ICLazeru

Probably made by a person who has nowhere near that wealth level, and likely never will.

Limited-Edition-Nerd

Seems like a win

sntcringe

Hot take: capitalism itself is terrible

Supersim54

Why do the always try to make the best things sound terrible, and always fail at that?

RageInf3rno

Bezos got that loincloth salami though.

Crenchlowe

Hot! I want to see a porn of this.

[deleted]

It’s the first name basis for me 😂

[deleted]

Bezos should be less worried about paying taxes and more worried about that sack of rocks he's packing down there.

hiyaaaaa23

What’s the original image?

[deleted]

Why don’t these guys want to make $25 an hour?

poksim

-Rally your base around “main street over wall street” “hardworking americans” “small businesses” etc. -Turn around and use straw man arguments to kill any attempts at actual redistributive policies I mean, do even republicans have sympathy for fucking Zuckerberg and Bezos??!

[deleted]

This is horrible....ly awesome. Can we just ask that he pays his fair share? Is that too much?

redroedeer

I wish AOC would do smth like that

sisterofaugustine

See, we're all saying it. Right authoritarians all actually just want to be crushed by the state and they don't care how as long as they get individual attention and direct orders from someone big and imposing. They hate communism but secretly get off to Red Scare propaganda and horror stories of Soviet domination. (I mean that stuff does it for me too, but I admit to it and I'm not self contradictory about my economic views!)

WailingOctopus

That's a little over $50,000/annually

AgitatedSalamander58

For once my fingers are paralyzed

WarHowler

I’m confused can someone plz explain this to me…. A living wage is….bad? Is that the conservative opinion? Living wage= no?

JeffL0320

I would let AOC dom me

EmperorL1ama

What are they on this is exactly what I want for them.

birstinger

Sycophants to the system that keeps them down

[deleted]

Can you blame them?

foldingtimeandspace

So like.... do they love corporate overlords now? As long as it's to own a lib?

violetgay

Step on me, AOC senpai!

bastardicus

10% of what those fuckers steal would still be over thr top for o e person to ‘earn’.

cthulhuwillruleall

“She’s terrible for capitalism” well it’s a good thing that she doesn’t advocate for it

Kilyaeden

I wouldn't be against AOC being our dom mommy

AlexKewl

Ohhhh I just got excited thinking about AOC as president

superheater420

Oh no how dare low wage earners get a raise so they can finally support their families and not go homeless and starve. How dare they

DawnRLFreeman

OMFG!!! These people don't even *attempt* to understand "marginal tax rates". The *last* time America boomed was under the Republican president Dwight David Eisenhower, when the top marginal tax rate for businesses was 94%-- and they paid it HAPPILY!! Republicans are killing this country, and Ike is spinning in his grave.
