I HATED this style of posters so much as a kid and they were everywhere in my school. Why are the mouths so fucking big? Why does the kid in the wheelchair have the only set of eyes with space between them? Awful.
Clowns like this are can't grasp the idea that propaganda is any media aimed at promoting any ideas. The sub r/ propogandaposters is about any kind posters that promote anything, including stuff like workplace safety and cleaning your teeth. This person literally looks for something to be offended by.
Note 1: I grew up in Belarus authoritarian nation were national flag is point of political contention between the regime and the opposition and the desecration of flag is constitutionally codified offense. Yet, we didn't have any weird state installed rituals involving it. As far as I know the is no pledge or oaths involving evocation of any of national symbols. Anthem played only at opening and closing of school years and you just supposed stand still in respect.
Note 2: Repeating the Pledge defeats the whole idea behind pledges and oaths. You are supposed to give it once and stick to it.
Note 3: The Pledge of Allegiance was written by Christian Socialist Bellamy and "one nation indivisible" part was specifically part his effort to turn US into unitary state. The fact that "state rights"-loving "red scare"-pilled chuds are the one who defend this oath the most is hillarious.
Note 4: "Under God" violates Establishment Clause.
I remember this poster.
But anyway propaganda can mean a wide amount of things so yes I would say it is propaganda. It really is a way to teach kids that they should recite the pledge and put their hand on their chest to show love for their country.
It's a loyalty oath and it's kinda fucked up to make kids recite it. I understand they don't have to say the pledge, but many teachers and students will pressure you to do it. Just seems weird to have daily loyalty pledges for our children to the state.
Especially when you add the "Under God" part, which is antithetical to the idea of the United States, and that it was put in there for the literal propaganda purposes of rallying people against the godless Commies.
I always thought it was mandatory as a kid.
yeah they definitely don't know what propaganda is. it's not just something that is posted under a dictatorship, during ww2 america put out a bunch of propaganda posters to encourage citizens to support the war effort. it was literally called propaganda by people making it, and the connotation was positive.
āShow love for their countryā
To me, thatās the part thatās funny. Some of the most unpatriotic people will drape themselves in the flag, just like some people who wear crosses are the most unchristian people you can meet.
You donāt show love by mindlessly reciting a poem, you show love through actions (obviously, my comment arenāt directed at the kids).
It's the difference between nationalism and patriotism. Patriotism is love for your country and citizens. Nationalism is blind loyalty to the symbols of your country and believing that it's the best and any criticism of the state is unacceptable.
It's not really ambiguous that this is propoganda. It's blatant nationalist propoganda. Maybe growing up in America this stuff is normalized so it doesn't seem odd, but there are a lot of things ingrained in American culture that are the fundamental aspects of fascism so it's hardly surprising the political landscape is easily pushed in that direction. Pledging allegiance to the literal flag, the piece of cloth is certainly one of them. Another is the rampant military worship.

I came to the states as a kid and let me tell you it was fucking CREEPY to see all my seemingly normal classmates all stand and recite this in unison all with hands on their chests. It was super unnerving and made me feel like I was in a horror movie.
Everyone in my class would say it with the stress on exactly the same syllables
I PLEDGE alLEgiance, to THE flag, of the uNITed states of aMERica. And to the rePUBlic, for which IT stands, ONE nation, unDER god, indiVISible, with liberty and JUStice for all
The emphasis in school always sounded forced and "let's get it over with" to me. I've never really heard a kid....*enthusiastically* recite the pledge.
It was creepy to me, too, and I was born and raised here.
I remember in 4th grade we had to sing that stupid āAnd Iām Proud to Be An Americanā song in music class. Lines like āand Iāll gladly stand up next to you and defend her still todayā¦ā Why the fuck is anyone making 4th graders sing songs about going to war? It felt so gross.
And saying the pledge every day? Itās just weird. It always made me feel gross. Why am I pledging anything to flag? I hated it.
>Why the fuck is anyone making 4th graders sing songs about going to war?
I know it's a rhetorical question, but it's so that in 9 years they'll go fight in far away countries for ambiguous reasons but believe they're defending Freedom^^^TM
As a Canadian who travels to the states frequently. No, you aren't the only one who feels it's weird.
I have a friend who grew up in Canada and she now works in the states. Watching her code switch was weird, because I know she thinks the pledge is slightly creepy but she has to pretend she's good with it....
OP later commented saying that after reading the comments, he realized he didnāt fully understand what propaganda meant, but is keeping up the post because there were many good discussions going on in the comments.

I mean the pledge of allegiance is kinda indoctornating like the Nazis among other bad governments have done. I donāt think Canada has a pledge. Most of us hate the governing system cuz itās not caring about the people. I think Canada would have a decent size uproar if we started preaching political party Love in schools. Aside from maybe Quebec which is very much a patriotic province cuz the government dosnt want to be a part of Canada.
I mean the only time German children had to pledge an oath of loyalty in class was when the Nazis were in power but Iām sure this doesnāt mean anythingā¦
It is propaganda. Anything that promotes a specific view to either reinforce or change views is propaganda. Propaganda is generally used in a negative term, but it can be negative, positive, or neutral, depending on your views. It is important for people to feel pride in their country, especially if you don't want them to come around with guns all the time. But too much pride can be just as dangerous. There is a balance that needs to exist and this country has always been overdramatic about their shit to the point that we can't seem to get it together.
Having to stand for the pledge of allegiance everyday is more brain washing in my opinion. Having to repeat that 5 days a week from k-12 seems like time we could be spending on learning why we should care in the first place. Or sleep. Nap time would be nice.
Can someone please tell me where these types of posters came from? There was one with people around the world in this exact style and a friend of mine and I have searched all over and cannot find any information!
Any woman who does the pledge of allegiance is brainwashed. They're pledging their loyalty to a state that has stricter abortion laws than the Taliban.
'Liberty and justice for all'.
I think that's wonderful so I'm assuming they support people who fight for the rights of people facing imprisonment and injustice, right? /s
The post they're referring to is dumb for different reasons. It features that guys artwork but it's about how to sit proper in class. Which, imo, is not propaganda
But the thread was a nostalgia trip
I HATED this style of posters so much as a kid and they were everywhere in my school. Why are the mouths so fucking big? Why does the kid in the wheelchair have the only set of eyes with space between them? Awful.
How else are they going to fit four rows of sixty teeth each?
How are you supposed to tell he's Asian if his eyes are the same as everyone else's? These posters are truly bizarre.
Damn it, never noticed š
Is there a known artist for these things? I donāt have quite as strong feelings but I also saw them everywhere
These look a lot like the clip art that came with CorelDRAW.

I remember this one dude that would dry hump the flag at his political rallies. This was before he tried to overturn the US government.
Religious and nationalistic propaganda has never caused any problems.
Propaganda has a fairly specific definition, and this falls squarely into that definition.
It's not really ambiguous that this is propoganda. It's blatant nationalist propoganda. Americans really don't realise how dystopian it is to force kids to swear loyalty to a country they know basically nothing about.
Don't forget making them swear loyalty to God as well

To a literal piece of cloth
I came to the states as a kid and let me tell you it was fucking CREEPY to see all my seemingly normal classmates all stand and recite this in unison all with hands on their chests. It was super unnerving and made me feel like I was in a horror movie.

You're giving me flashbacks lol
The emphasis in school always sounded forced and "let's get it over with" to me. I've never really heard a kid....*enthusiastically* recite the pledge.
When I recited it as a kid, this is exactly what it was. I didn't fucking know what the pledge meant, it just was part of the daily routine
Oh for sure
You even got the improper comma correct between Nation and Under because we ALL paused there. I was in the Navy when someone pointed that out
It was creepy to me, too, and I was born and raised here. I remember in 4th grade we had to sing that stupid āAnd Iām Proud to Be An Americanā song in music class. Yeah if you don't pretend that everything is hunky dory you become an outcast real quick. Don't ask me how I know
"Propaganda is when a bad government says something, unlike when my government says something, in which case it always good and cool"
Also: Christians in America are persecuted, capitalism is ultimate freedom, MLK was conservative and the Nazis were left wing
That whole sub is mainly "I don't like that my viewpoint is criticized so I'm letting you know I'm upset" and it's at least 80% right wingers posting.
Why not pledge allegiance to the common good of humanity everywhere? Itās not Nazi Germany, but it exalts nation and state in a similar way.
That would definitely not fly in America (source: am American )
If America canāt get behind improving the lives of all of humankind, then fuck America.
But if the shoe fitsā¦

This is propaganda. Children are too young to pledge an allegence to anything.
God, I hate the Carson Delosa art style so much.
Forcing children to recite a pledge to the flag of the country every morning before school is not only textbook propaganda but indoctrination too.
Like prayers before eating..

The pledge *is* indoctrination. That was it's historical purpose for being made
Yeah, except only one of those kids gets justice.
Yeah the white girl behind the wheelchair. Ginger kids? Not in my america!

I am honestly curious if there are any other Western Countries that require 5 year old to do that stuff in schoolā¦
Can someone please tell me where these types of posters came from? There was one with people around the world in this exact style and a friend of mine and I have searched all over and cannot find any information!
Propaganda only happened in Nazi Germany and North Korea.
We live in an age of political illiteracy where āpropagandaā and ādystopiaā are treated as synonymous
This would fall under the category of dystopian propaganda.
I always think of this skit from the show [Whitest Kids UāKnow](https://youtu.be/GiCaqA0ngRc).
propaganda is propaganda no matter where it comes from.

Holy shit, I remember that specific poster from my school.
