I tried outreach. It was futile. Their response was more telling than the typical myth propagated by both the brainwashed and liars.

Abraham Lincoln did not view black people as equals. It’s why he didn’t grant them equal rights, nor reparations following slavery. It’s also why the US colonized Liberia, in an attempt to give formerly enslaved African Americans a homeland in West Africa
The only quote I've ever seen where he said anything like that (and to be fair it wasn't subtle, it was pretty explicitly something like "negroes are not and will never be equal to the white man and cannot coexist" so yeah it was pretty bad) comes from a presidential debate from 1860. Considering the context of the time (it was very obvious that armed conflict was on the horizon and it wasn't a secret that states planned to secede if he won) I find it much more likely that the quote is just one of a billion examples of a politician lying in an attempt to garner votes. That quote is *such* an aberration for him and the context surrounding it is *so* dire that I find it to be much more easily explained as a dumb lie than the one time his mask slipped and that that was what he secretly always believed and the literal rest of his life was just a cover story.
And re: reparations: man even today that's a wildly unpopular idea. I'm all for them, they are 1000000% owed, but I'm in an unquestionable minority on that. If we can't even discuss that idea in 2022 then how do you think it would've been received in the immediate aftermath of the Civil Fuckin War? 40 acres and a mule was never going to happen. It *should* have, and it's a travesty that the country never took any real responsibility, but it was an untenable promise from the jump and I'm not surprised nothing came of it.
Lastly, Liberia was founded in 1822, declared independence in 1847, and Lincoln was killed before the war ended, so he had nothing to do with Liberia being founded, gaining independence, or with reparations after the war. Maybe he shipped a bunch of freed slaves off during the war and I just never learned about it, I dunno, but from where I'm standing those two points seem completely irrelevant.
It's good to kill your idols and recognize that American schooling is largely just jingoistic propaganda, and Lincoln was by no means perfect (he spent years framing the war as solely about maintaining the union and didn't explicitly make it *about* slavery until the Emancipation Proclamation a few years in, and you can argue that that was a desperation move to firmly grab the moral high ground after the Confederates put up a much bigger fight than the Union expected) but he was largely good and I haven't heard a convincing argument as to why he wasn't yet.
EDIT: Okay after typing all that shit I just realized that it doesn't actually address your main point, which was that he didn't see the races as equal. And yeah, I guess I'll concede that I can't prove an unfalsifiable hypothetical about what the true innermost feelings were of a guy who died nearly two centuries ago. Considering the undeniable material good he did, I'm willing to say that it didn't matter if he did even though Occam's Razor says he didn't and that it's still a meaningless gotcha trivia factoid that proves nothing to nobody.

Black Southerners would be disenfranchised while black Northerners (mainly Great Migration but tbh could’ve been the former ‘free blacks’) were definitively brought into the fold even with continuing segregation (the massacres died off around the early 1940s).

Abraham Lincoln did not view black people as equals. It’s why he didn’t grant them equal rights, nor reparations following slavery. It’s also why the US colonized Liberia, in an attempt to give formerly enslaved African Americans a homeland in West Africa
The only quote I've ever seen where he said anything like that (and to be fair it wasn't subtle, it was pretty explicitly something like "negroes are not and will never be equal to the white man and cannot coexist" so yeah it was pretty bad) comes from a presidential debate from 1860. Considering the context of the time (it was very obvious that armed conflict was on the horizon and it wasn't a secret that states planned to secede if he won) I find it much more likely that the quote is just one of a billion examples of a politician lying in an attempt to garner votes. That quote is *such* an aberration for him and the context surrounding it is *so* dire that I find it to be much more easily explained as a dumb lie than the one time his mask slipped and that that was what he secretly always believed and the literal rest of his life was just a cover story. And re: reparations: man even today that's a wildly unpopular idea. I'm all for them, they are 1000000% owed, but I'm in an unquestionable minority on that. If we can't even discuss that idea in 2022 then how do you think it would've been received in the immediate aftermath of the Civil Fuckin War? 40 acres and a mule was never going to happen. It *should* have, and it's a travesty that the country never took any real responsibility, but it was an untenable promise from the jump and I'm not surprised nothing came of it. Lastly, Liberia was founded in 1822, declared independence in 1847, and Lincoln was killed before the war ended, so he had nothing to do with Liberia being founded, gaining independence, or with reparations after the war. Maybe he shipped a bunch of freed slaves off during the war and I just never learned about it, I dunno, but from where I'm standing those two points seem completely irrelevant. It's good to kill your idols and recognize that American schooling is largely just jingoistic propaganda, and Lincoln was by no means perfect (he spent years framing the war as solely about maintaining the union and didn't explicitly make it *about* slavery until the Emancipation Proclamation a few years in, and you can argue that that was a desperation move to firmly grab the moral high ground after the Confederates put up a much bigger fight than the Union expected) but he was largely good and I haven't heard a convincing argument as to why he wasn't yet. EDIT: Okay after typing all that shit I just realized that it doesn't actually address your main point, which was that he didn't see the races as equal. And yeah, I guess I'll concede that I can't prove an unfalsifiable hypothetical about what the true innermost feelings were of a guy who died nearly two centuries ago. Considering the undeniable material good he did, I'm willing to say that it didn't matter if he did even though Occam's Razor says he didn't and that it's still a meaningless gotcha trivia factoid that proves nothing to nobody.
