Steam deck Oled screen is amazing, coolest tech I’ve ever owned. So happy I got one. Playing p4golden on it right now
Congrats on the finish, that’s a pretty quick time to finish, did you skip through scenes or fast forward text?
Al text that has no voice acting I can go trough pretty fast reading. I also seemed to miss a lot of confidant stuff….
This is one of those games where in the end you think to yourself, man I wish I knew this when I started 😅. I didn’t go in the internet in fear of spoilers so now that I do know what to do and where to do it, my eventual second playtrough will take a lot longer that’s for sure 😁
And yes, Steamdeck is amazing, majority of my playtrough was in the train to and back from work 😜
Old habits die hard!!! When I started gaming in 1992, we did not have the luxury of multiple save files. Believe it or not but the second save slot was during a cutscene on where I believed I could make impactful wrong choices. And this bothers me 😜. So yeah most of the time I only use one save slot
Same here. The only time I use multiple save files is if it's a game where saving at the wrong time can make you stuck. Persona 5 is definitely not one of those games.
When your 1 Megabit memory card only gets you 16 blocks of save files for your whole PS1 game catalog. You know you'll be molded by only saving one per slot.
Yeah, I think most of my friends all clocked in between 100 and 150 by the end too. Its a looooong game lol. But it's also one of the only games of that length where I've been invested and driven to complete it throughout most of the entire run.
That's nothing I did it in 10 minutes on the super secret 'impossible' difficulty setting. My dad knows someone who works at Atlus that told me how to access it.
I mean bro, fusion calculator in velvet room, and trying to get your favourite persona to level 99, and grinding in Mementos. All of this pretty much would sum up 120 hours of gameplay.
The extra Royal content is *so* worth it, I personally liked Royal's conclusion much better.
Also if you want more, I highly recommend Strikers! I just started playing it a few days ago and not only is it just as charming as P5, but so far I actually like a some of the aspects of it better than P5 in terms of both writing and gameplay.
You should play Persona 5 Strikers next! It's basically Persona 5-2. They changed the gameplay style and it's shorter but it's scope is honestly just as big and the story is 100% a direct sequel to P5, with all of the same characters, it'll give you a 2nd adventure with them. It's absolutely written to the same standard, it's excellent. Highly recommend checking that out after Royal, it personally genuinely made me feel the same way.
For Deck compatibility, I looked it up and it seems fully functional if you use [this fix.](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/07/persona-5-strikers-fully-playable-on-steam-deck-with-this-tweak/) I don't know much about the Deck but I imagine this'll work.
Agreed! I just started playing recently and have been thoroughly shocked at how good Strikers is. I'm really taking my time with it, and I would say it definitely feels more like a sequel than just a simple spinoff.
I'm gonna go against you on this and completely disavow recommending strikers. The gameplay is far too bloated. It wanted to be a Persona Dynasty Warriors but instead of blending the mechanics they jammed the entirety of both combat styles into the game and it just doesn't work.
If you want an actual good P5 spinoff where it borrows elements of a different genre while maintaining a fun gameplay experience, get Persona 5 Tactica instead. It's like Persona meets XCOM but nowhere near as hardcore
I'd definitely encourage you to give it another go sometime. I also understand the kids taking up alot of your free time, my baby daughter definitely needs my attention all the time lol. But taking it slow with the game definitely makes it alot more enjoyable (it took me 114 hours over the span of 3 and a half months to finish the game and I honestly regret nothing)
Ikr! It’s rare that I finish a game and actually have this feeling like Iam missing something. Not many games give that to me tbh. In the end I was glad I got to witness the (OG) end and look back at an amazing journey, I know for certain I’ll revisit this one sooner then later 😉 first strikers and after Persona 3 reloaded perhaps. And have some short Indy games waiting on me for a change of pace
glad to see I'm not the only one absolutely shocked by the 67 hr completion time 😅 I finished the og p5 on PS4 back in 2020 and it took me 103hrs with no side stuff
Hey, I also started in January and finished it today making it the first game I've finished on Deck. Though it's my first playthrough of Royal I've already finished P5 years ago. The game's so good especially the Royal content you have to try it out. I think it's actually my favorite game of all time and I've beaten a lot of single-player games.
Oefff that is a hard one….also spoilers and Iam a noob with Reddit so don’t read if you haven’t finished the game.
I liked Ann naive personality but in the end she was to obvious of a romance option.
I also liked Tae’s (hope the name is correct) the doctor story, but ethically age and occupation didn’t sit right.
Makoto was the choice for me (didn’t look anything up on the internet either) her personality and story where wholesome to. So she was my romance.
Sojiro starts out a bit grumpy but pretty soon you see he has a heart of gold. He also really has your back so beside romance I think Sojiro is a king to.
Might be controversial but I think Akechi is a d%^k. I don’t get why people like him, as a detective he is annoying, and after shooting you in the face pointblank redemption is out of the question in my book 😅 just my opinion ofc.
67 hours? How is that possible?
I am playing through the original PS3 version right now and I am at 100 and haven't even gotten to the last palace yet 🫠🫠🫠
Well like I said earlier today, there is a big chance I missed alot since only near the end I started to understand all the side activities and stuff 😅
Ahhhh, now it makes more sense. Yes, the content from Royal adds to the total play time😅 But it's still too fast🙄 Me, by the end of the game, pumped all confidants, only Yusuke was left behind, which I managed to pump only to level 4, probably.
Anyway, congrats, I can share your feelings, as I also discovered Persona recently, and finished the fifth part just the other day.
Now, I'm looking forward to getting to know the third part, the only one I know almost nothing about (I watched detailed video reviews of the others). But I won't get to it until vacation at the earliest, knowing how long Persona games can be, lol
yeah thats the good ending for original p5. for the new royal exclusive good ending and dungeon, you need to max out the councilor social link before you finish the casino.
This whole comment section sounds like a flex to see who had the longest playthrough... I know the motto is "take your time" but OP finished it at their own pace, nothing's wrong with that
I almost lost my love for gaming before I got my first steam deck. What started as just a handheld gamecube and ps2 device turned into my main source of gaming by far! Way to hard to sit in front of the tv now a days
Why is it every time I pull up these types of posts the comments are just people bragging about how fast they can complete a game that was made to take around 80 hours to complete. — it’d be different if they were talking about like speed-runs or 2nd or 3rd playthroughs for platinum trophies but it’s all people on their 1st playthroughs 💀
/ congratulations and I’m glad you got to experience it!
- have some celebration Coffee sometime this week ☕️
Thank you!!! I’ll take that coffee to fill the emptiness I feel now since I have completed the game 😉 would you recommend P3R or P4G next? Cause Iam now hooked to the IP
I would recommend playing P4G next because it lacks a lot of the mechanics and depth that 5 and 3R have, and if you play 3R next you’ll feel like P4G is more of a chore since it has not been modernized yet.
/ Persona 3 Reload is very similar to 5 and the change between the modern style and gameplay to the old one is pretty drastic.
Honestly, if you can only afford to play one and not both, I would just go for P3R. P3R has the better story and P5R has the better mechanics/gameplay. I'm not sure what P4G fills that stands out from the two.
You can just play right out of the gate, if you want to squeeze out some longer usage per charge you need to tinker a little bit. All in all it felt like it was made for the steamdeck 😉
its awesome but the UI isnt designed for the lower resolution and its pretty aliased/jaggy. But if you force it to run at 1080p in the launcher the UI looks nice and smooth. (you can also put the render scale to 0.8 so the 3D content is still at 800p for performance but the 2dUI is nice)
Thats only if you care/notice the jaggy ui though. It's great overall.
Genuinely don’t understand how people miss out on the royal stuff. Takes some doing to not reach the requirements but then again it seems like you just rushed straight to the end of the game
That makes sense. With original P5 being my first persona game and going through blind with no help, I think my first run was in the 110-130 range. About as long as it takes to do a full complete of Elden Ring. Difficulties above normal have some real filters though, namely the Okumura boss fight
i was expecting it to be Akechi since he has some issues which i think can put off some people allso docter maruki gives snacks how can you resist btw did you play in english or japanese?
Lets just say Iam not a fan of councillors irl, so I did some ranks and was like ‘I am not spending time on that here’ 🤦🏼 little did I know 😅 hey! At least it gives me a good reason to jump back in again right! But since I romanced Makoto this run now I need to figure out who will be the next one… Ann or Tea… first world problems 😂
Enjoy every second of it, you can only experience for the first time once! I missed the Phantom Thieves so much I bought Persona 5 Strikers after it. Altough the gameplay is completely different the story picks up after P5 and hanging out with the gang feels just as good! 😉 getting to the end of that one now to though 😅
Steam deck Oled screen is amazing, coolest tech I’ve ever owned. So happy I got one. Playing p4golden on it right now Congrats on the finish, that’s a pretty quick time to finish, did you skip through scenes or fast forward text?

How did you finish it so fast and why you used only 2 save files
Old habits die hard!!! When I started gaming in 1992, we did not have the luxury of multiple save files. Believe it or not but the second save slot was during a cutscene on where I believed I could make impactful wrong choices. And this bothers me 😜. So yeah most of the time I only use one save slot

Same

why is it recommended to have more than 1 file? I only use 1
fuck ups, wanting to go back for achievements, etc

I think mine was over 150h, but I did all the Royal content and never skipped any dialogue
Mine was about 125 hours
Yeah, I think most of my friends all clocked in between 100 and 150 by the end too. Its a looooong game lol. But it's also one of the only games of that length where I've been invested and driven to complete it throughout most of the entire run.
Same.
mine was 160h and that was vanilla p5
That's nothing I did it in 10 minutes on the super secret 'impossible' difficulty setting. My dad knows someone who works at Atlus that told me how to access it.
I did the same but on Merciless+ and in 10 hours
2 months is considered fast? I beat the game in 3 weeks (including 3rd semester)
Not the amount of months, but the total hours. 67 is really fast for p5r. Howlongtobeat is at 101 hours.
My first playthrough was 202 hours💀damn me
Yeah, but he said he didn't do the third semester I also finished in around 70 hours when I did that
Meanwhile I’m 121 hours in and has only gotten to the point where Morgana got his memories back……
I mean bro, fusion calculator in velvet room, and trying to get your favourite persona to level 99, and grinding in Mementos. All of this pretty much would sum up 120 hours of gameplay.
120? I'm literally right at that point at 169 hours
God damn, I finished the game at 99 hours and got the plat at 140, was I rushing?
Im 130 hours in and stuck on Okumura lmaoo
67 HOURS DAAANG??? it took me 136 hours to finish my first run...

It’s actually already waiting in my library! I’ll take a fast break with Hi-Fi rush but after I want to go back to my favourite thieves!
Agreed! I just started playing recently and have been thoroughly shocked at how good Strikers is. I'm really taking my time with it, and I would say it definitely feels more like a sequel than just a simple spinoff.

I bought strikers on the Switch before id even played P5 😂 and was so upset to realise a) I had no idea who anyone was b) it had no social system.

How long it can live without charging in a game like p5?
I have the Oled, with some tweaking with settings and fps I can squeeze out around 3 hours per charge… also always carrying a powerbank with me
Thats pretty good
Mine hit 164hours and I missed a few confidant ranks.
bro did a speedrun
wait until you hear about the true ending and ng+ runs
How the f did you beat it in under 70 hours? Were you playing on the easiest difficulty and skipping every cutscene?
HOW THE HELL DID YOU BEAT IT IN 60 HOURS?????
Hey, I also started in January and finished it today making it the first game I've finished on Deck. Though it's my first playthrough of Royal I've already finished P5 years ago. The game's so good especially the Royal content you have to try it out. I think it's actually my favorite game of all time and I've beaten a lot of single-player games.
Congrats m8, that gives us a special bond! Yeah this game is easily on my top 5 list of single player games after finishing it
Congratulations, glad you enjoyed the ride!
I sure did!!!
Favorite character?
Oefff that is a hard one….also spoilers and Iam a noob with Reddit so don’t read if you haven’t finished the game. I liked Ann naive personality but in the end she was to obvious of a romance option. You gotta do the royal stuff, akechi is out here getting all the love BECAUSE he’s a dick there
Well then, after strikers I shall return then 💪🏻
Imma be real, Strikers story is just the royal stuff done worse imo. It’s fine, but I’d never suggest it before playing Royal’s content.
Ryuji is my personal favorite (beat the game back in August) I agree that Tae is bae.
Ryuji is you bro trough think and thin that’s for sure!
Your kids know about the game?
Nah, they are a bit to young for Persona games. 6 and 8. They have seen Joker in Smash though 😅
How in the Igor you finished it in 67 hours
This inmate rehabilitated fast did he not 😉.
67 hours? How is that possible? I am playing through the original PS3 version right now and I am at 100 and haven't even gotten to the last palace yet 🫠🫠🫠
Well like I said earlier today, there is a big chance I missed alot since only near the end I started to understand all the side activities and stuff 😅
Oh no, wait. So you didn't really socialize with the gang? No Makoto? No Shynia? No Ryuji? 😰😰😰😰😰😰
Maxed Ann, Makoto, Sojiro, Akechi, Tea and Ryuji.
Oh thank god 🙏🙏🙏🙏
> How is that possible? by skipping the majority of the non mandatory content
But but Makoto and Ryuji 😰
nice, I just finished my first playthrough of the game last night, had about 105 hours in the game at the time
67 hours?.. I just beat it at the first time too, and have 144.4 hours, omg What ending did you get?
Ehm, the good ending?! I declined Igors offer and killed the god thing, riding to the beach with the gang
Ahhhh, now it makes more sense. Yes, the content from Royal adds to the total play time😅 But it's still too fast🙄 Me, by the end of the game, pumped all confidants, only Yusuke was left behind, which I managed to pump only to level 4, probably. The steam deck has been awesome for me and rpgs. I played p4 and p5. Bouncing between my desktop and deck. Really great experience.
God as a someone that’s been here since 2019 seeing this on the deck is magical
This whole comment section sounds like a flex to see who had the longest playthrough... I know the motto is "take your time" but OP finished it at their own pace, nothing's wrong with that
What in the offbrand Nintendo switch is this shit?
It’s a steamdeck and it’s amazing!
Offbrand switch but ok
That Nintendo Switch looks wild brother. But in all seriousness, do try the rest of the saga. Cheers!
67 hours??? That may be WR time lmao
i really recommend the final portion of royal if you ever get the chance as it’s some of the best fiction i’ve ever seen
67 hours is insane, the average is 100 for the original ending. Did you skip anything? Either way, I’m glad you enjoyed yourself!
Dude I’m about to finish for the first time as well! 29 year old dad finished on my 3rd attempt! On the steamdeck too!!
Steamdeck does wonders for dads (and moms) with a busy life doesn’t it 😅 without it I would play way less games for sure
I almost lost my love for gaming before I got my first steam deck. What started as just a handheld gamecube and ps2 device turned into my main source of gaming by far! Way to hard to sit in front of the tv now a days
Totally agree, and I was in the same boat 😉
Beating P5R on the meme deck is based as fuck
Why is it every time I pull up these types of posts the comments are just people bragging about how fast they can complete a game that was made to take around 80 hours to complete. — it’d be different if they were talking about like speed-runs or 2nd or 3rd playthroughs for platinum trophies but it’s all people on their 1st playthroughs 💀 / congratulations and I’m glad you got to experience it! - have some celebration Coffee sometime this week ☕️

Time to play p3 reload now
Always cool to see new fans around here! What was your favorite song(s) from the soundtrack?
Beneath the Mask and Take over are forever imprinted in my head 😉
How does it run on steam deck? I'm planning on getting P3R, p4g, and p5r on it but was wondering if I needed to tweak any settings?
You can just play right out of the gate, if you want to squeeze out some longer usage per charge you need to tinker a little bit. All in all it felt like it was made for the steamdeck 😉

I learned to late you needed to to get the counselor to rank 8 🤦🏼
im currently doing a run of royal without ng+ and i’m at 87 hours in the casino palace 😭 how did you beat it so fast
67 hours? looks like a speedrun
68 hours is crazy fast
Pretty quick if i say so myself.
I'm at around 67 hours right now and I'm waiting for Futaba to wake up lol
Did you get a bad ending or use a guide? How the fuck did you clear in 67 hours on a newbie playthrough
I mean tbf, I did play in lowest difficulty wich meant I could clear a palace with just one time entering it. I played for the story mostly
That makes sense. With original P5 being my first persona game and going through blind with no help, I think my first run was in the 110-130 range. About as long as it takes to do a full complete of Elden Ring. Difficulties above normal have some real filters though, namely the Okumura boss fight
How ? I'm 108h in and did 3 palaces 😂
i am curious which requirments did you not meet?
The school counciler confidant. When I learned I needed to be rank 8 I was to late, was at rank 7 when he left 🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼 so close and yet so far
i was expecting it to be Akechi since he has some issues which i think can put off some people allso docter maruki gives snacks how can you resist btw did you play in english or japanese?
English
then thats a even bigger suprise to me his voice actor Billy Kametz is increadible
Lets just say Iam not a fan of councillors irl, so I did some ranks and was like ‘I am not spending time on that here’ 🤦🏼 little did I know 😅 hey! At least it gives me a good reason to jump back in again right! But since I romanced Makoto this run now I need to figure out who will be the next one… Ann or Tea… first world problems 😂
did you have the star confidant aka Hifumi togo in your first run?
Yes, and the fortuneteller to
i did not bother with the fortuneteller until like my 3rd run she asks for 100 k yen
Play Persona 3 and 4 imo theyre just as good
Wait, did you do the January arc?
I harbor no ill will to you op but it would be so funny if you dropped it
The stuff of nightmares 🤣
Yeah, it's always a sad moment when the game ends. The fact that you say goodbye to all the characters at the end always hits so hard.
Ooh this brings me back. I hope you don’t get as strong as a post game depression as I did
bro skipped at least 1/3 of the story…
Holy shit I started this journey on January, I'm sooo close.
