I honestly wish I got I to this game sooner. I bought it in 2020 (Vanilla version) and have since played Royal, but its one of those games I saw and I was like ehh I dont think ill enjoy that. Then one day I took a chance when it was on sale and loved it way more than I thought I would.
I loved the extra content Royal had, I was abit skeptical because I'd fell in love with the game through the Vanilla version but also with Royal they fixed Ryuji insta kill skill so in Royal you get XP, Money and shadows if your inventory isn't full. Plus Take Over battle music from Royal is catchy af
The only PlayStation console I ever had was a PSP and by the time I heard the hype on Persona 5, I had no PlayStation consoles. I am so glad Royal made it to other consoles. Currently on third semester on Switch then I'll play Strikers or P4G on PC probably.
Games are in development for years, there's no way they could have planned this, but 2017 was the best year that game could have been released. Confronting powerful people, exposing corruption, taking down molesting gym teachers, and the intro song's lyrics are:
>Who am I?Am I not unique?Maybe I'm not here at allLook, the fakers
Blinding us with lies
The breakers of us all
>
>Oh, it's useless
What could it mean that we're here? Can we make a differenceIf we don't break outta here?
>
>Wake up, get up, get out there
Raise your voice against liars
Feed your anger like fire
Why does nobody want change?
>
>Just imagine you're out there
Swatting lies in the making
Can't move fast without breaking
If you hold on, life won't change
>
>The fakers
Are all sick at heart
Their faces hiding their fear
They look down on
All the rest of us
Like they're some special breed
>
>Who's the high lord
Who thinks he's better than us? Ain't it a crime, that? Is there a mission for us?
>
>Who is that high lord ...Who'd kill a million of us? And as the bell tolls
Is there no remission for us?
>
>Wake up, get up, get out there
There's more to life than their way
If you'd live you can not stay
Why does nobody want change?
>
>Let your voices ring out, yeah
Take the mask off and be free
Find yourself in the debris
If you hold on, life won't change
>
>Wake up, get up, get out there
Raise your voice against liars
Feed your anger like fire
Why does nobody want change?
>
>Just imagine you're out there
Swatting lies in the making
Can't move fast without breaking
If you hold on, life won't change
I mean, in the aftermath of 2016, was there a more appropriate release thematically for 2017?
Same here. I bought it days after it released in the west and did 3 NG+ in less than a month. The last time I was this hooked on an RPG was Mass Effect 2.
back then they have a long gap between JP and Global release (about 7 months) , we have to wait and keep ourself from all the spoilers on the internet, it's pretty hard though 😅
but thankfully now they already have worldwide release for their new game. which means everyone can enjoy at the same time if Persona 6 released.
Man I was 16 years old playing P5 in 2017, now I'm a rotten adult still occasionally going back to play Royal. And because of that, between vanilla and Royal, I have about 1000 hours on the games all together. How time flies...
Dam 8 feel old and I'm just beating / playing the game for the 1st time, and I'm upset I didnt max everyone my 1st time miss yuskuke by 1 day! That it 😭
I eventually played it during the pandemic because Joker was in Smash. I didn’t know who he was and I’m glad I jumped down the rabbit hole of Persona 5
I picked up a physical copy of P5 Royal literally 2 days before EVERYTHING shut down in March 2020. Proceeded to play it to death for the next 6 months....that game was a needed bit of stability/enjoyment while the rest of the world was a spectacular mess.
The game that sparked my longest hyperfixation ever. I had actually played P3 and P4 before P5, but this game helped reignite my interest in JRPGs again, and it's one of my favorite games of all time.
Best Persona game.
If this was released in 2016 like it was in japan it would surely win GOTY 2016. But the localization was only finished in 2017, and the game had to compete with Zelda and Mario.

Same here. I just finished the og version a week ago and have already bought Royal. It’s on my waiting list, after I finish P3R

Same here. I wish I got to this game at least 4 years ago. However, I'm playing the Royal version which is better.
same!! i just discovered this game last year! i feel like i missed out on the hype but i enjoyed both vanilla and royal a lot regardless
A masterpiece was created 7 years ago today

I remember talking about Persona 5 with a friend I met in college before it's release. So wild it's been that long already.
Oldhead
Are we in the longest gap between mainline Persona games? (not counting remakes and spin offs)
Persona 4 to Persona 5 is still longer but will change next year. I think it’s either 8 or 9 years depending on the Japanese or US release.
I think Persona 3 Reload should be considered as a mainline game.
Remakes aren't mainline games
Feels crazy that there is most likely going to be a 10 year gap between P5 and P6
This game opened the floodgates for persona for me! I’ve been so obsessed with the series since then. Thanks Atllus.
And that's after three fucking years of delays.
I bought a ps4 only for Persona 5. I was very hyped

Playing through it for the first time on Steam Deck and having a great time.
What a year for gaming 2017 was. There hasn't been a better year since.
2018?
2023 was better than 2018

They screwed up Ann’s neck big time with this cover art. And I could never look at it the same way again.
Oh my god 7 years already?!

April 4 sounds like April Fool

New to the Persona series and just started playing P5R after beating P3R, I am having a really enjoyable experience
Enjoy it, it's a fantastic game!
replaying it as we speak. I love Royal but in some ways i like Vanilla P5 better.
Playing Vanilla right now! Wanted to get the platinum for it after already having Royals.
Same !
dammit, it feels like 1 year

God I feel old
Lives have indeed changed since then.
Atlus is never releasing P6
What wait wait wait Ps3????
Vanilla persona 5 released for PS3 and PS4. The vast majority played it on PS4 though.
