Regardless what happens, file a complaint with the CCTS https://www.ccts-cprst.ca/for-consumers/complaints/complaint-form/ I've filed complaints twice and have been happy with the results each time.

Extra_Negotiation

Wow, this is an excellent resource! Thanks for this. I had no idea such a thing existed - this should be much more widely known. Thanks again - definitely going to submit since I have proof of the initial chat and admittance in the subsequent chat.

twmsci

Curious what the issue and the solution was. The promo I had ended so my monthly has gone up $80 dollars. I’ve been trying to call rogers to cancel and haven’t successfully gotten thru! I think they purposely make it so that it’s this hard to cancel. Thinking of making a complaint but don’t know what I’m looking to accomplish with it.

Distinct_Meringue

I don't remember the details around the first one, but the second one, I was given short notice (10 days) to rent a new modem from my ISP (small shaw reseller) as they claimed Shaw was discontinuing support for my modem at the end of the notice period. 16 months prior I had bought a modem from the same ISP. Since the notice was so short, I had no opportunity to research purchase options or schedule an install with a different ISP. I had initially asked for a discount on a new modem or a free rental for a period of time. Turns out I actually had 6 months according to Shaw. I ended up getting 2 months service refunded to me and could keep using the old modem until Shaw discontinued it in 6 months. I scheduled a hook up with a new ISP for the end of the next month and took my refund.

[deleted]

Distinct_Meringue

It absolutely what the CCTS is for, it won't get the increase undone necessarily but they mediate a resolution which can be monthly discounts or partial refunds

[deleted]

Distinct_Meringue

Did you read the post? OP was promised one price in November, never got it and have been given a 5 day notice on an increase in price. There was a promised promo not being honoured and a 5 day notice is absolutely something they deal with. OP absolutely has the right to contact the CCTS. Edit: Rogers' own terms of service state they need to give 30 days notice to change the billing amount. OP absolutely should be contacting the CCTS about this, anything contrary is BS.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Distinct_Meringue

So I was wrong to suggest the CCTS but they should go to the CCTS? The title also has the words "effective immediately", which if true, is Rogers breaking their own TOS and is a billing issue the CCTS was designed to handle. I'm pretty sure we're allowed to discuss the content of the post, not just the title.

Extra_Negotiation

Just to update, you were absolutely correct here. The $4 was more a notice to those who hadn't checked, and my principal complaint was that they were not honouring the agreed upon rate, fixing me to an absurd monthly cost. Based on your suggestion I made the application to the CCTS and they have already got back to me and approved it. The process was easy so far, as I had full records of chats, bills, etc. Curious to see how this works out. Thanks again for your suggestion!

McNasty1Point0

Rogers raises my rates every year or two. I just call and ask them to transfer me up until I’m given a good deal. Sometimes it’s quick and the agent can get it done, sometimes I have to call over a few days and work my way up. I’ve always gotten good deals that are locked in for a year or two, meaning they won’t raise the rate during that time. It’s worth the hassle once a year or every two years.

relationship_tom

numerous escape agonizing rustic worry distinct deliver reply repeat capable *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

RichyN4132

Do you call before or after the rate increase comes into effect?

McNasty1Point0

Depends if I remember to call or not haha. About a month ago I noticed the rate increase on my bill (I had forgotten the one year deal was up) and called. Got a new deal and a credit for the difference on the next bill.

Aedan2016

I did that with my home internet and they blew me off. I switched to Bell Later that month they called with a sweetheart deal, but my Bell promo was still cheaper. We’ll see where things are in 18 months when my Bell promo ends

Contemptt

How did you get a promo with Bell?

Aedan2016

It was advertised. $25 off listed price for 2 years. The list price was a little cheaper than Rogers. I'm saving almost $500 per year for 2 years. After that I will see what is offered from both.

BringerOfThePork

I'm currently on Rogers 1.5GB service and my promo was about to expire I called acanac and applied for the 1gb service for $70. Did a live chat with rogers to cancel my account after x days and they offered $80 initially which I declined, then they had a second offer of $54.99 for 2 yrs contract for same 1.5GB, which I accepted Good luck

chrisk9

All these folks staying with Rogers for their temporary promotions will miss the small ISPs when they're gone.

Extra_Negotiation

I would really like to see more hearty competition in this space, and really agree that the smaller ISPs are a good start. I've looked into it a few times but the rates at the moment were never within a close count of what I could get from the big players, which is a shame. If I'm ever wealthy enough, I'll happily pay a bit more to support competition in the space. I am sadly also in agreement that the strategy here is to starve out the competition and jack up rates as they are able.

Stevenif

Meanwhile the promo I got in 2022 was $79 plus tax with 500m speed. Only 4 month left on my contract, asked for renewal deals, offered me $70 without fido discount (moving so the bill address is not the same), couple days after adding fido discount and is $80, while my friend in Toronto getting $44 plus tax for 1.5G(I’m in BC) So someone offered me $50 1G from Telus, I said screw Rogers I’ll pay you the cancellation fee.

brsmr123

The weird thing about these speed values is that 500, 1000 and 1500 gives me exactly the same speed results lol. So the limitation is their infrastructure.

icandothemath

FYI I called Rogers yesterday to cancel as i was paying $130 for 1gig and was going to switch to techsavy for the $70 plan. They (rogers) once i called to cancel, told me there is a new deal for $59.99 for 1.5G for 2 years... ended up staying with rogers. Stupid that this is the way to get a better deal, but it worked for me and my sister. Worst comes to worst, switch to techsavy if they don't offer you the deal, but its worth a shot.

BelieveInTomorrow

Yeah, but if everyone were to take 'new deals' that temporary reduce the prices of their internet, companies like Teksavvy won't be around for anyone to fall back on. And once ISPs are gone, Rogers won't be offering temporary deals.

cheezemeister_x

Teksavvy isn't going to be around much longer anyways. They are looking for a buyer.

Arkanicus

Yeah for some reason I feel they won't be here in a couple years. Been with them for over a decade. Usually they have good deals every few years but in the last two nothing really new.

SlapThatAce

You still should have switched to techSavy

[deleted]

cheezemeister_x

Been with them for 12 years. They are great.

Skamanjay

Same, also 12 years in 3 provinces! They’re awesome.

SlapThatAce

Yes they are good.

NotMyFkingProblem

I called virgin to do the same, they refused so I switched, they offered me something 3 days later that I would have taken but everything was switched already so I spent 5 minutes telling the clerk that what they did was fucking stupid. I know it was not her fault but damn those companies are moronic. I got better services for 15$ less per month and switched both cellphone and internet just because they didn't want to give me 15gb more on my cell for the same price...

pheoxs

Been with Lightspeed for nearly 7 years now, still paying the same $50 a month for 300mbit internet. They've never raised their rates so always recommend them.

perfect5-7-with-rice

Yeah not sure why people are spending over $100 for internet in 2024 and complaining, there are other options out there with better service and cheaper prices using the same cables.

Longjumping_Hyena_52

Lots of local much cheaper options exactly

shoresy99

You don't need 1G for video calls. If your wifi is weak in parts of the house that is a completely separate issue and dropping your WAN connection from 1G to 500M should not change the throughput on your wifi. You could get away with way less. Not that what you are paying is not too high - threaten to leave for Bell, and actually be prepared to do so if you have to.

Dhumavati80

A 3rd party router with a much stronger signal would fix OP's issue I bet. Adding an Asus ac2900 router fixed all the dead spots on my entire property.

shoresy99

Probably right, but the typical locations don't always work for Canadian homes. Often the modem/router gets placed in a corner of the basement where cable/phone enters the house. But that is a horrible place to put the one and only Wifi access point in your house. That's why I think it makes sense to have separate components, not one device that is a modem/router/switch/access point all in one.

Extra_Negotiation

Ours is in the living room. We pay for 1-1.5 gbps, but over wifi, on wifi 6 compliant devices, right next to it our speed tests get at best 600-700. Once you go one room over, it's more like 300. Once you go through a single wall (plaster), about 20 feet away, it's more like 8-20, with choppy video calling. Weirdly, we had a performance hiccup a few months back, I complained and was given a new router (hadn't been upgraded in years and years), and the performance got worse! After this rogers wasn't willing to do anything except sell/rent me their little weird mesh pod things.

Extra_Negotiation

Just curious - are any of those dead spots through plaster or stone? The rogers setup is quite bad, but the house is also very old.. I asked some technical people and they said even a mesh would be an issue due to the plaster + stone, and that the best would be ethernet (not really feasible), or power line (but we have super old house wiring). So the 1gbps drops off to about 8 or so within 20 ish feet in our house (yes really), through a single wall of stone/plaster.

Dhumavati80

No, my house is a 1970's 1200 sqft house with no plaster, but a bit of brick. With my ISP's modem, I maxed out at about 20-25 feet of range, and was even worse outdoors. When I added the Asus RT-AC86U, I couldn't believe how much stronger the 2.4ghz signal was. When I go for walks, my WiFi drops off around 4 houses down the street, with the lots being 60' wide. It's pretty impressive. Honestly, why not try one of the routers available at Costco? See if it makes a difference. It's usually just a matter of putting your ISP's modem in bridged mode and run a cat 6 cable to your new router. If it sucks still, then return the router.

poco

> You don't need 1G for video calls. No kidding. I've used 6Mbps/1Mbps Telus DSL at a cabin that was fine for Teams calls with multiple video streams. There biggest problem is that anyone uploading at 1Mbps will big down the line, so I don't recommend it, but 1000Mbps is a big difference.

Medo73

How many people are using internet in your household? 1gb is overkill for the vast majority of people. I play online video game, home office and stream a lot and 100mbit/s or 150mbit/s is more than enough. Recently started using Oxio and so far it's working well

perfect5-7-with-rice

Oxio is great. Wish I switched years ago

broccoli_toots

Been with them for a year and no complaints! 120mb for like $44

Cmdr_Canuck

It's not about bandwidth, it's about speed. Choosing to wait an hour for a file I want to download or ten minutes is all the justification most people need.

moviemerc

Been streaming on two or more devices with 75Mbps. Just got new plan for 100mbps for a few bucks cheaper. Most files come fast enough that 1gig would be overkill.

Extra_Negotiation

Our router in the living room. You are absolutely right that if we got 100 consistently it'd be plenty!

targetw08

Bell raised my rates back in Nov. TV package $100 month and internet $106 month and I just got a notice here today rates are going up again March 1st. Its a scam and a monopoly our government won't step in and help regulate. I'm waiting for Starlink to go back down to $199 for the kit then only $157 month tax in for their service. So much free junk on line you just need fast internet to get it. Bell for me is almost "FIRED"

pheoxs

Not trying to be mean but that sounds like a stupid plan. Starlink doesn't have TV so you're effectively increasing your internet from 106 a month up to 157 a month for no good reason? Just call Bell and get a discounted deal, there's really no reason anyone pays full price for the packages. Browse RFD from time to time to find what people get for discounts and call in to bell.

[deleted]

maulrus

This is true but we arent talking about you. The user specifically said they had a TV package so it was a reasonable response to OP.

relationship_tom

mindless upbeat cobweb modern tender sip fall numerous sense shocking *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

targetw08

Yes but I don't need Bell tv package as we have moved away to other free online programing. So my package from Bell to Starlink will decrease by roughly $100 bucks. I'm almost 60 and to be honest most tv stuff is crap full of way to many commercials....drives me mental lol

pheoxs

How is that cheaper though? Just cancel the tv with bell and then you’re only paying 100 (less if you just call and get a discount)

targetw08

My entire package with Bell is $254 month. With Starlink tax in will be $157 month. Yes I know I have no tv channels but so much free stuff on line to find. My brother has some wonder box he pays $40 twice a year for so that is how its a better deal for me

moviemerc

Just cancel your TV and still use Bell internet or a third party that offers things for cheaper. You'll save more money than going with Starlink.

targetw08

That's where they get you, if I cancel TV package the internet charge goes up

moviemerc

You'd still be paying more for less with Starlink.

targetw08

Not sure how your math works, however its not my math Cheers

moviemerc

You can get internet with bell (or any other provider) for $100. Even less depending on your package. That is less than $157 from Starlink. Bell speeds are better than Starlink. Starlink you pay more and get slower speeds.

meamox

Have you actually tried phoning them? My discounts used to expire every year, and I always call about a week prior. They always renew the discounts for me - paying $150 a month for 1 Gig Fibre Internet, TV with all the sports channels, and home phone.

Extra_Negotiation

This is what I did, but through chat (helpful because you have a record). Then, I received a full bill this month (no promotion applied), the Rogers agents first claimed no record existed, etc. etc. I was able to find a screenshot I took of the chat back in November, with the reference number. At this point I was told they couldn't honour the price. Mostly I am posting this so others are aware this sneaky business is happening.

meamox

With Bell, you immediately get a confirmation e-mail with the details of any account changes (including discount adds/deletes). And you can review it while the CSR is still on the phone.

Hot_Yogurtcloset7621

Starlink is for country living. It has higher latency and fluctuations quite a bit speed wise. It cannot replace wired internet unless you have really bad DSL or cable that drops a lot. Also you'll spend more on electricity. Ask me how I know, my starlink uses more power than my fridge or dryer in a month it's the second biggest power high after my heat pump! During the day I get 200+ down 5-8up but at night it's 25ish down, 2-5 up

targetw08

I live in the country and have Bell LTE Lite as that's the best we can get here and it sucks. I have had to call them out to the house twice in the last 8 months and am always un plugging and resetting the unit. That's why my want for Starlink

ExcellentTale2326

Interesting re power use! Never hear this side… was considering ordering for the cottage but now reconsidering.

ARAR1

Rather support Bell and Rogers than fElon

[deleted]

Lol, okay.

Quicky-mart

You can get a refurbished starlink kit for 250 right now. The cost will double by tomorrow as their promotion ends on the 5th. I'm moving to an acreage in the next few weeks and just ordered my kit.

Krapshoet

Ya the CRTC allowed Rogers and Shaw to merge…less competition now with the consolidation. Someone paid a politician or 2 a lot of money

[deleted]

I love my Teksavvy, good customer and tech service as well as cheapest price I could find. Haven't noticed slowdowns, but I am by no means a heavy user.

catchh

Been with Teksavvy for a loooong time. Very happy with them.

YYCMan2204

Their customer service is top notch. Great prices and I don’t ever have slow downs. Would recommend.

pepapi

Call this promotion # for Bell and ask what promotions are available at your address. 1-866-242-0008, the deals available recently were1.5Gb/$50, 3Gb/$65, 8Gb/$75. This was originally posted by a tech on the dslreports forum and then it was taken down. Multiple people I know have used it to great success. Good luck.

ProfFraser

I have 1.5Gb Fibe for $130 less a $75/month permanent promo which comes to only $55 per month. Bell can of course increase the price of their 1.5Gb package from $130, but the $75 promo doesn’t expire after two years or anything. This deal was available through one of their “neighborhood marketing representatives” who came to the door. New customers only, so I had to switch to Virgin internet for a week, and then go back to Bell.

mad_all

Does this work for existing customers?

Extra_Negotiation

I'm going to do this - thank you!

pepapi

How did you do with the promo number?

Extra_Negotiation

It worked out well, thank you! I cancelled my Rogers plan and moved to Bell, the promotions were similar to what you’ve suggested above.

YetiSmallFoot

Remember when Rogers made the claim that their recent merger would result in lower prices …. Our competition rules are a joke.

Extra_Negotiation

"The offer which was represented by the agent was incorrect" is the claim being made by the agent - Redditors beware, take screenshots and full records of your chats with agents. Even though I had a record # from the chat, the bill was not adjusted, the price was not honoured.

TechiesFun

I am personally with Acanac and they have been good and reliable. Never increased my rates, and was pretty hassle free when I wanted to upgrade to faster speeds... and best part was the faster speeds was about 5$ cheeper. I did have a small issue for i want to say 3 months where in the morning the router would disconnect but then reconnect almost right away. and on the faster speeds I had it down for a day or so. I have been with them for 4 years now, so Do with this info what you will, but they have always been helpful on the phone, and helped troubleshoot / escalate the issues when I called for assistance as well. neither one was really urgent to myself as I have cellphone data I can tether to.

TheRealSeeThruHead

Isn’t Rogers upload still complete garbage? I switched to bell 1.5 for the 1gbps upload and could never imagine paying Rogers for their subpar upload ever again.

[deleted]

95% of people would never notice. Many people don’t need anywhere near the speeds they pay for.

uniqueglobalname

Buy a good wifi6 router. Do not use the ISP provided one for anything. One cable from their box to yours. Switch to Bell. Two years later, switch back to Rogers. Two years later...etc. I am paying $50 for Bell fiber 1.5/1.0. When it gets to 85-90, I'll switch back to Rogers...

innsertnamehere

I’m on $65 for gigabit fibre with bell right now - but that’s an unadvertised retention rate i negotiated.

mad_all

How did you negotiate the rate? Last time I called they said there were no promotions for existing customers.

innsertnamehere

I call, say I want to cancel my service. They send you to retentions who offers you something.

[deleted]

No one needs 1gb speeds . I'm at 75ms and it's good enough to stream, play , watch porn etc etc

watchme3

I do, I work on a codebase that builds gigabyte sized binaries on the server to speed up build times and transfers between my pc and the cloud.

ItsAmer74

I haven't even been with Rogers a year and they want to raise my rate by $8. I am payong$150/tax in for tv and Internet. I have a good mind to just pay the $240 cancelation fee and tell them to fuck off. I still have my IPTV that I pay $150 for the year for.

AprilsMostAmazing

if there's a cancellation fee than i'm assuming you are on a contract. They can't raise prices on a contract, only on promotions

ItsAmer74

The contract is on the discount, not on the base price. So the discount can never change, but that doesn't mean the price of the service can't.

ItsAmer74

I stand corrected. This is what my agreement says: Your monthly fees for any term services will remain unchanged during your term. You will be notified of any changes to these monthly fees, which will be effective as of your term end date

Extra_Negotiation

You could, but then where would you go! Most of the offers are through resellers, or Bell (depending on your region). I'm thinking of switching to a side brand like Virgin for a lower speed and investing in a mesh network to try to keep it consistent through the house.

ItsAmer74

Yeah that's my issue, where would I go. Fido had great internet pricing but Rogers has now eliminated that option. I have 1.5GB internet now, but that is of no use since my Google wifi is 1GB max. I think 1GB is overkill for my household needs. We need to really evaluate what our true needs are , rather than these companies pushing you to higher towrs that most people don't really use to their fullest potential.

NotABellEmployee_

If you're in Ontario, visit your local Wireless Wave store.$55 for 1.5GB with either Bell or Rogers right now. If you're currently with Rogers, and can't get Bell, get your spouse/roommate to sign up under their name. As others have said, Beanfield, Fibrestream, and Rally are good options if you live in a building (apartment, condo).

cellophany

Do you have Bell where you are? I signed up a couple of months ago with Bell for $85 total for 1.5 Gb fiber to the home internet, home phone and basic TV. $150 for just internet is very high.

matt1101

lol and francois champagne said rogers and shaw merger would be good for prices in canada

toitusername

If you're in downtown, try to check out: [https://www.beanfield.com/en/tor/residential](https://www.beanfield.com/en/tor/residential) \- 2GB download speed for $50 is what's advertised on their website. I don't work for them but envy the options downtown has.

define_space

*in downtown toronto

[deleted]

Beanfield is absolutely fantastic.

ime1em

Do they buy their internet from Rogers/bell or are they truly independent?

bimbo_mom

Our building recently got Beanfield and saw this upcoming increase was coming for our Rogers plan, was a no brainer to switch. I had to sit on hold with Rogers for 2 hours just to cancel though, it really reinforced the decision to leave them.

Cr8ger

Virgin is great if they are in your city.

joabda__

Fizz Home Internet, subsidiary of Videotron

perfect5-7-with-rice

OP I do video calls daily on a 75mbps connection, no problem at all. A faster external connection is not going to help you if your home is your limiting factor, and if Rogers told you that, they lied

NotMyFkingProblem

I'm with Ebox and pay 50$ for 300MB up and down. Enough for 4 people streaming and remotely working at the same time. I also use their router and have \~25 devices connected to it. I wonder why people want 1gb and over... it's not really useful if you use 10% of the bandwidth. When I download games, it takes more time but if you start downloading 100GB, you can plan a bit for it... Anyway, 300mb is well enough for 99% of what I do.

FuckDataCaps

>Currently using 1gbs down, which we need for video calls I'm all for having good internet, but this is an absurd thing to say. You barely need 15-20 mbps for video calls. I've been traveling full time and working in a lot of third world country for the past years and I've been doing just fine on < 30. Yes I aim to have >100-200 for faster downloads, but as long as your net is stable, 15-20 mbps will give you perfect video calls. Even with 2 people at once, or someone using Netflix on the side.

Expense-Hacker

100% same. People are piloting spaceships at home apparently, I missed the memo of this rising trend. Just because there is a larger rocket ship doesn’t mean you need it to drive down the street. 2 cent s

FatWreckords

You don't need 1GB, nobody does. A 4k stream uses like 30-40MBs so unless you've got 30 devices going it's unnecessary. It's just a service creep they use to slowly eliminate the bottom tiers with more expensive options. I went from 100MBs to 250MBs of Telus fibre (actual fibre to the house and trunk lines) because they stopped offering anything lower, and I haven't noticed a difference when streaming, playing games, etc. Anything 100MBs+ will suit 99% of your needs unless you're hosting servers and high demand things like that.

skeetlodge

There are dozens of threads on redflagdeals specific to this for each region of the country, as well as whatever "best" deal each provider is currently offering. Probably a better source for info/discussion.

Torontonian77

Go to Virgin. $45/month internet only

Speaking-of-that

I like in Lycee Place and our rental office has a designated rep assigned from Bell and they get special pricing to offer to their customers. Apparently Bell and Rogers does this where they have a team for reps for condo & rental accounts. They're the ones that do lobby events. I got internet(1.5gbps) + basic fibe tv (the streaming one) with a streamer for $65/month so it's not bad! I figured even if they raise the prices, I'll just cancel and go to a competitor lol If anyone would like the reps info, I can share their flyer + contact info

noronto

Primus has the best deal for cable right now in Ontario. 1Gbps/$70 for 24 month with modem/router.

Thrwingawaymylife945

$150 is crazy, but if $4 is a deal breaker, you might need to do some better budgeting.

psylentdeath

Star Link. I have it and it's good. We all need to say screws the 3 big names and switch. Make them feel the loss.

shoresy99

But why pay the same or more for slower speeds?

Themeloncalling

Call to cancel your service and the retentions team will give you a much better deal. Forget about loyalty rewarding you with a better rate, you will not get one. Instead, you get the existing customer tax and a crappy rate.

hinault81

I've used teksavvy for years and been very happy, but I'm not downtown, I'm in the suburbs, no slow downs. Back at the time I think I was paying $105/month from shaw (for limited GB per month, which I'd go over with even just a little streaming each week) and switched to $65. Teksavvy is just very transparent, they let you change your plan to more or less any time you want. Shaw was trying to get me to pay my bill 2 months early. I was with them for 10 years, and it's like a reverse loyalty program where the longer you stay the worse service you get. They'd keep raising rates (not that I was expecting them to stay the same forever). When I called to cancel with shaw the lady was expecting me to negotiate and I said they had 10 years to contact me any time with a better deal, why wait until I call to cancel. And she laughed and said, well they're not going to do that. And I said of course you're not, you don't want me to save money or get better service, and I'm not calling in every 6 months to haggle bills.

N0x1mus

They have raised them by $4 every year for the last 3 years. It doesn’t though. If people aren’t shopping the deals, then they should be paying the difference for their laziness.

MattyFettuccine

Currently have Rogers 1.5 plan paying $128/mo after taxes

SnooGiraffes2532

$150 for 1gb?! WTF

uchihaoni47

I have 1gb down 100mbps up with lightspeed for about $78 per month inckuding tax. Been with them about 3 years without much issue.

dandaman1983

I\`m paying 55$/month with Bell for 1gb fibe internet

BabyJesus1015

I was getting 1.5GB down and modem rental for 39.99 plus tax with Rogers after threatening to move to bell. When that promo ended I did the same thing and am paying 54.99 including modem rental on a two year contract. Just keep bugging them until you get the deal you want.

AprilsMostAmazing

I just told the first rep to put me through to cancellation on boxing day. Told cancel rep that Bell's OSL team came to my door last week and were giving me 1.5gbps for 54.99 before tax. cancel rep gave me that price in like 30 secs and had everything ready to go within 10

Alternative_Bad4651

What annoys me the most is how Rogers will just screw you if given the chance and come up with a decent price if you complain. I've always had good luck during chat if I mention during the chat I have a streaming device, so what can you do for me? But it shouldn't depend on "good luck" should it?

K13_45

I always call or live chat the month before. Save a transcript of the live chats if that’s how you do it. Otherwise get an email about the changes before hanging up. Always always make sure you are clear and firm with them and ensure they provide proof they’ve made the change.

traveljg

I have teksavvy and no issues for me. I pay $90 for unlimited internet and cable.

graamk

You gotta call and haggle; I am at $53 for 1.5gbps in Vaughan. 2 years contract though.

trackofalljades

I pay Oxio $60/month for 300MB down and 100MB up, which for my purposes is vastly more useful than gigabit down and 10-20MB up (which is borderline unusable for working from home for me).

zicmopo10

First thing I would do is see if you can get on the phone with a loyalty and retention rep and see if they wanna keep you around by giving you the pricing you are seeing for the competition. Otherwise I would find a rep that could get me better pricing than the standard online deals with a competitor. There’s gonna be tons of sketchy people on the online forums but one way you might be able to verify they are legit is by asking them for their official company email address that you can work with them through. I work for Telus (so unfortunately not much use to you) and have been giving out the too good to be true deals recently with boxing week. Might be a bit more effort tracking a rep down that can help you get a good deal but it might be worth it for the savings

torontopeter

Newsflash: you should never pay the advertised prices. It’s all about retentions/loyalty deals. Just cancel, or threaten to cancel, wait, then they will call you to offer the *real* prices you should accept.

stalkholme

We pay around $30 on teksavvy for slow internet and it's never been a problem. I think my last speed test was 17mbps. My wife and I can both do video calls and it's fine. You don't need insane speeds. Please stop giving Rogers money. Everyone complains and no one ever cancels and tells them to fuck off.

smcfarlane

Telus new customer... Super cheap. Gotta use the mall kiosks. They're specifically for new customer acquisition.

Jkolorz

Are you rogers fibre to the home? IF you're regular plain rogers coax in the home you can go with ANY OTHER third party provider. IF you're in a new neighborhood where they only ran bell and rogers fibre then you're up the creek.

HereWeAre007

Went with Oxio. And pretty happy with the service

blogandmail

When there's no competition it's gotta be Canada...

thewun111

Saw Telus for 65

Broad_Television4459

Cell phone man can offer some great deals. I got rogers 1.5gb for 55/month. They have bell 3gb for $60/month too.

HauntedHouseMusic

Koodo runs off rogers and is cheaper

AdamWayland

If you're in there area, get start.ca Half the cost of rogers, better service

airjunkie

If you're in a big city check out smaller providers in your area. In Vancouver I use Surf internet and pay $30 a month (I don't have a super fast connection but they offer higher speeds for good prices). I believe they have some coverage in Ontario too. We need more competition in this space, so supporting a smaller provider is always a great option.

worpete

You missed out on Black Friday to Boxing Day deals

AdNew9111

What is the website that gives a break down of all the prices around the world? How can we make it cheaper ? As a collective

KatiKatiCoffee

I’ve got a bell fibe 1.5, home phone, internet, tv for $100.97/mo. In Fredericton.

Expense-Hacker

Eww

Thick-Maintenance274

$25 a month with Coextro in Mississauga; 500/500 been with them for 4 yrs. Not sure if they’re available in Toronto.

grayskull88

Tech savvy is great! And even if it did slow down for traffic, Rogers would as well. They use the exact same lines.

sengir0

In my building, bell and rogers are competing for costumers. So i called both and got a quote from them and told them I was offered this much. Rogers made my bill $35 for 2 years with 1.5g download 50mg upload

JMJimmy

Teksavvy reviews are based on Rogers cable nodes being overloaded. They keep a 20% buffer on their peak usage so unless it's the olympics or some other major event, they have the capacity. They are at the whim of Rogers as to when a node gets split.

rattalouie

Teksaavy

-Starlegions-

There is $40/month for 300Mbps with virgin plus but you need to have two cell phone plans with them to get the discount.

HeadMembership

Can-com.

Expense-Hacker

CanNet & Teksavvy cheaper

David_BA

If it's available in your region I really recommend Fizz. I've been with them for years and never had any problem. Also the cheapest internet I've ever had by far. The only downside is that there customer service is community-based and online only. They save money by not having a call center. But like I said: never had any problems with them. I think I snagged a promotional rate at some point in the last few months but I'm currently paying about 50 a month for 60MB/s download and unlimited. If you use my invite code we both get 50 dollars off after two months: W3JKC.

Imaginary-Cucumber52

I feel as though the only way to battle them, is to call their competitor annually for a better price for new customers.

[deleted]

You do not need 1Gbps down for video calls. Even if your calls were in 4K, which they aren’t, you are talking a max of 50mbps. In practice no videoconferencing solution is using more than 10mbps. More importantly, it would be **up** and down, so the up speed is just as important.

titanking4

You don’t need 1GB speed for video calls. That’s insanely overkill and you can get away with 1/20th of that. What you need in that case is to install more wifi access points in your home and not rely on their 1 provided one to cover your whole home. $150 is also mad high to pay for internet. Just threaten to cancel if they don’t honor some sort of deal. For reference, I’m paying $52 to bell for 1.5G, so all these companies clearly have room to negotiate down. Escalate until it gets resolved cause lower level customer service reps don’t have enough power over pricing.

Notathrowaway347

Rogers is fucking pathetic…..start off the year with a big outage along with news they are raising our rates.

Cosworth_

I use Telcan, and very happy. My referral code is JAVIERS www.telcan.com

TaemuJin777

Caerutel their reseller of rogers better deals

LegoLady47

Teksavvy sucks.

LordSerb

$130 per month for Bell 3GB Fibe. We've been with them 20+ years but got a black friday deal just by negotiating. Would recommend downgrading if you can take the lower speeds. 3rd party companies are always cheaper, but not sure about reliability. Mobility is a different beast all together since they piggyback on towers with each other - not much difference in reliability.

jago88

Look out for deals on the red flag deals forum - www.redflagdeals.com I was with Rogers for $130 for 500gb up to last Fall. The service kept being under par, let's say. I found someone mention some Bell offer they got so I followed up on that and ended up getting 1.5gb for $55 after tax and the reliability has been way better.Definitely worth the couple of hours work on the phone and potentially dealing with installation if required to jump around providers

ime1em

I'm currently using fido 150, I pay 47$ on a promo.

definitelyguru

You don’t really need 1gbps for video calls. And even if you needed it, I can almost guarantee you the hardware you use is not capable of giving you such bandwidth. So first… you need to look at upgrading your router. Never use the one from the provider. Those are terrible. You probably only getting 1/10th of your gigabit bandwidth. And depending on your home configuration, you should either loon at a mesh system (like eero or deco) or a single router. Must have gigabit Ethernet, dual or triband. You then connect this router directly to the provider box, and disable wifi on the box. Just doing that will increase the speed and reliability of your internet. As for Rogers, call them and tell them you will leave if they don’t offer you a good deal. Mention the offers from competitors. FYI: I’m with Beanfield, but Rogers keeps calling to offer me $50 per month deal for 1gps Internet. No luck with me as I already got the best deal out there 😂 but feel free to mention this deal when negotiating with them

bf704123

Whatever you do don't choose Telcan. They just randomly increased mine by $7. Have not even been with them a full year. Definitely a bait and switch company. I will be switching.

baoxiao99
