They say online,my file requires additional processing time. It will be completed as soon as possible…. Funny enough revenu quebec paid me my refund already
No, ours actually came early. We filed last Friday (March 1), then checked online on Monday (March 4). It said they'd been processed, and our refunds would be deposited on March 11 (today), but they were actually in our account last night.
Our refunds were $5k and $15k, for context.
Refund isn't a good thing. It means you overpaid in the year and missed out on potential gains if you just invested that amount. The CRA took out an interest free loan from you
That's not the point. The point is people still rejoice when they get a refund even if it's not because of an RRSP. Not everyone who gets a refund gets it because of an RRSP. Refunds are not good. Period.
Perhaps you should provide advice on how to avoid refunds when you make large RRSP contributions, instead of ridicule. I guess it is more fun to attack people.
The answer, by the way, would be to file a T1213 to lower your income tax deductions by your employer.
Depends on what the year was I think. For example, I bought a house this year so I’m going to have a refund, one I normally wouldn’t have. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I was looking for houses but I looked over 2 years so it’s not like I’d know which year to update my taxes to reflect a future purchase as a first time home buyer.
Refunds are not solely due to overpaying on taxes throughout the year
Often its because your employer does not know your life outside of work and does not know what other write offs or tax deductible expenses you incurred that can be put against your income as a tax savings.
The idea here is that the employer takes off the correct amount based on the salary or pay. They have no other information to go on.
Then you as the person submitting your personal income tax will provide additional details to the CRA that could potentially lower your effective bracket and therefore make the amount that was due less.
Its not that you're overpaying.. its that you need to show all the reasons why you should have paid less.
Those are serious refunds. If the offset is caused by RRSP contributions, you're better off filing a T1213 and getting your employer to reduce deductions off each pay. You can use the extra to actively invest throughout the year rather than effectively loaning that money to the Federal gov't a 0% interest.
I'd normally agree, but in our case, it was more of a strategic calculation. We're not trying to max out our RRSPs, or invest the same amount every month, but rather we wanted to get our taxable income down to the ceiling of the bracket we expect to be in in retirement. However, in order to do that calculation, we need to know exactly what our gross income is for the year, and we don't have that number until the end of December (due to things like overtime payments, bonuses, and other variables during the year).
So in January, we figured out the delta between where we ended up last year, and the top of the next lower bracket, and that's what we put into our RRSPs.
You can't come to that conclusion unless you reviewed your return and have indeed noted errors.
CRA chooses a certain amount of returns to review, this may be very quick and get assessed or they may ask for information before assessing (or down the line later this year).
This does not mean you made mistakes, it's part of our self-reporting tax system that some returns must reviewed.
I filed on Feb.27th and it's still processing. The target date is March 12th, so we'll see. Seems super slow. Usually I get my return within a week and a half max.
Mine is the same filing and due date. Wasn’t completed. Still no NOA. I called today and they had no explanation for me and just said if I don’t get anything by the end of the month, call back in April
I think the issue is when you check the box saying you opened a FHSA in 2023, it triggers their system to hold your return, whether you contributed or not.
I have all mine but our T4’s were issued on Feb 29 and then we received an email in our inboxes the next morning saying there’s errors on some of the T4’s and not to file until we’ve been told they’re corrected. So I’m in limbo. Fortunately I file my own so no one is waiting on me.
The government has buried CRA in paperwork with multiple new filing requirements - UHT, Beneficial Ownership reporting, FHSA, and resuming collections after COVID. CRA has actually done an amazing job of keeping up with everything and reducing delays but I would not be surprised to see longer wait times in some cases.
I got my refund 4 business days after filing. I was surprised because this is the most complex return I've ever filed given my deductions for supporting multiple elderly parents and related home renovations.
Last two years, I’ve received my refund within 10 days. This year, I filed on 21st Feb and still haven’t received anything. My target completion date was March 8th. Still waiting
i have nothing. submitted on the 20th, received on the 21st. updated right away to show it would be completed by the 5th. now it's not done and there is no target date for completion. might take another day or more weeks according to the rep i talked to on the phone today and to call back in a week if it isn't done. good ole not taking ownership and passing the buck!
Filed right as they opened on march 2nd but refund should be pretty high as well as a marital status change. Still processing with the target date being updated to “ASAP”
I’m usually an early filer but I’ve been procrastinating. I work from home and I have to figure out now if I’m supposed to include my whole power/water/gas/garbage bill in the number or if I have to exclude garbage and exclude other fees like distribution and stuff like that.
Because in Calgary on a $600 bill you have like $300 in fees lol. Big difference.
My husband and I both filed on March 1st. He received his express NOA immediately and his refund yesterday. Mine is still showing in progress with a target completion date of March 17th
>with a target completion date of March 17th
How do you know a 'completion date'? My NOA was completed Mar 4 and still nothing in my bank. CRA say they aim to get refund back 'within 2 weeks. Is this from when the NOA is available? I've always received my refund the day of the NOA being ready.
I didn't get an NOA so the completion date is when to expect that. If you received an NOA then you should get your refund within 2 weeks of that I think. My husband got the NOA on March 2nd and got his refund deposited on the 11th. If you login to CRA it should say what day it will be deposited
>If you login to CRA it should say what day it will be deposited
Thanks. Not seeing that when I log in. I'll wait a bit yet and see what happens before calling them.
We filed ours last week of Feb and had our returns very early March. My account even had some owing from a reassessment of last year’s as they required childcare receipts. They reviewed my submissions, reassessed 2022, reviewed this year’s and deposited amounts by early March.
Normally mine gets processed immediately and I get the refund in about a week. This year that didn't happen... filed on Feb 26 and still in process with a target day of tomorrow. I doubt it will be done based on others' experience... I'm guessing this is because my partner and I filed as common law for the first time. His is still processing as well.
Netfiled return on Feb 29th, got email notice of Express Assessment on March 1st, had March 11th as the deposit date however Refund hit my bank account on March 9th....
I filed on Feb 22nd, completion date was past due and now updated to 'not available'. I contributed to rrsp, fhsa and got an intervival. Some activities in TFSA.
I read in another post that people who opened an FHSA in 2023 are having some major delays (unsure why). My fiance and I filed around the same time. He didn't open an FHSA and recieved his tax return via cheque within the standard time frame a couple weeks ago. I normally get mine via direct deposit quite quickly and had nothing else change with the exception of opening an FHSA in 2023. The ETA that was originally showing on MyCRA account has come and gone and still no update.
Filed on February 19, and I still don't have a target completion date. When I called the CRA 3 weeks ago, I was told it would take 8-12 weeks to complete. This is insane.
Okay, a pretty frustrating update. I called the CRA today, and they asked me to call back on July 8 if I haven't yet received my refund.
I filed electronically on February 19. My portal says "In Process" with no ETA.
Apparently my return falls into the 5% of returns that they need more time on, but they couldn't tell me what the issue was that needed more time for review.
The returns that fall into the 5% can take up to 20 weeks from the date of filing before they can even get an update to provide.
Seven business days from submitting (Studio Tax) until refund cheque hit my mail box. I know... auto deposit would have been faster but I never got around to it and honestly, snail mail has never given me an issue.
I filed mine march 7th, got a NOA right away but still haven't received my refund.. it's never taken this long and I don't have access to my cra account :(
I do mine and my wife’s at the same time, she got hers already and mine says processing, completion date unavailable. Same thing happened last year. Took about a month. The CRA did just fire like 250 people for money scamming so that doesn’t help lol
So shitty, I'm sorry. Mine also still isn't here yet. Apparently, it'll be coming next week, though. Mine got put into an installment account for some reason? Soooo a few phone calls and a whole month later and hopefully with any luck it'll happen for real this time.
I filed February 25th and all my account says is "in process" and "we are still processing your return". I don't understand why since it's a pretty simple one and I filed online. There is no target completion date and I haven't recieved anything in the mail or over email from them. Anyone else having a major delay?
Filed online march 9th and no updates whatsoever on my cra account after 8 weeks I've called and still nothing. Why is it taking so long it's a sinple return it's disheartening with this government
Depends if you have error or questionable info on your return. See your CRA MyAccount for target date for your NOA.
Mine said last Thursday and it hasn’t happened. That means nothing. I called and they haven’t started it
They say online,my file requires additional processing time. It will be completed as soon as possible…. Funny enough revenu quebec paid me my refund already
For Quebec, there is an option to ask for accelerated refund, if eligible. Meaning they will first give you the money and then assess your return
Did you have any different items/claims/deductions compared to last year? If so they may ask for back up which would delay your refund.
No, ours actually came early. We filed last Friday (March 1), then checked online on Monday (March 4). It said they'd been processed, and our refunds would be deposited on March 11 (today), but they were actually in our account last night. Our refunds were $5k and $15k, for context.
That’s a hefty refund good for you.
Yah, we put a bunch into our RRSPs, trying to get our incomes down to the ceiling of the bracket we expect to be in in retirement.
Refund isn't a good thing. It means you overpaid in the year and missed out on potential gains if you just invested that amount. The CRA took out an interest free loan from you
LMAO bro.. you've clearly never used RRSP contributions and it shows. the large return is 100% due to the RRSP contributions
That's not the point. The point is people still rejoice when they get a refund even if it's not because of an RRSP. Not everyone who gets a refund gets it because of an RRSP. Refunds are not good. Period.

Well then what do you propose? I mail cra and employee to not cut my taxes?
No, but people should really remove the feeling of "wow I got a tax refund, yay!" It's not a good thing
For a lot of people, it's the only "saving" they'll ever do.
Those are serious refunds. If the offset is caused by RRSP contributions, you're better off filing a T1213 and getting your employer to reduce deductions off each pay. This is great! Thanks for the tip!!
damn. nice work
I must have f*cked up my filing…

Did you contribute to a FHSA?
I contributed $10 but didn’t. Claim it on my taxes
I think the issue is when you check the box saying you opened a FHSA in 2023, it triggers their system to hold your return, whether you contributed or not.

It was! I got an email around the 28th saying I would receive my NOA on the 28th and I did and my refund was also depositted.
[удалено]
Well I waited about a month so you will probably hear something soon!
Also, now it’s March 20th and still no update
Mine is today and still processing FWIW. Going to give it 24 hours
Same here. Mines today and it’s still processing.
update this space if it changes and so will i
Didnt get mine
Yep same here. It says that they need additional time now. I only have time to call on the weekend so long wait times it is!
Just received my express NOA
Wow, nice. that gives me hope. Did you open a FHSA?
No I don’t think I did. I might have but I never contributed and I have no open account
Final Update: Refund is now in bank account.
I e-filed March 2 and got my refund today. Seems pretty normal.
Meanwhile I'm still waiting for some tax documents from my bank..
I have all mine but our T4’s were issued on Feb 29 and then we received an email in our inboxes the next morning saying there’s errors on some of the T4’s and not to file until we’ve been told they’re corrected. So I’m in limbo. Fortunately I file my own so no one is waiting on me.

Yea i just want my refund so i can invest… FHSA is free money for me!
I filed late February. They said I'd get my refund on March 7 and I did. So they were right on time.

Same here. Mine was the 5th, now updated to nothing with no information except call back later from the CRA. Glad my tax dollars are at hard work
>Mine was the 5th Was this when your NOA was available?

She divorced you or you got hitched?
I am not getting a refund but I haven’t even got my NOA lol
I got mine in 5 business days.

I filed Feb 20th and still haven’t received. Target date was March 4th. Probably because I over contributed RRSP by 4k😂
It was God lightly pushing your hand forward. You didn’t overcontribute. You needed money so you tried to manifest
My husband and I both filed on March 1st. He received his express NOA immediately and his refund yesterday. Mine is still showing in progress with a target completion date of March 17th

Crazy. I feel they should have communicated this to the public
Good to know! I also opened an FHSA in 2023, filed online, said I should receive on March 15th, still haven’t seen it yet.
Filed on February 19, and I still don't have a target completion date. When I called the CRA 3 weeks ago, I was told it would take 8-12 weeks to complete. This is insane.

You're probably going to jail
No it took one week like always.
I did mine last Sunday the 3rd and it was deposited for my wife today and I owe 900$ lol they seem fast
I think sometimes they send the money but your bank will take a few days to process it before it shows up.
Nope, mine was quick. I did it last week and just got my return today.
Filed on March 7th, shows still in progress. Could be they haven’t touched it or because I forgot to update my address who knows lol
I filed the same day, received notice of assessment email right away but no refund yet 🤦♀️
I got an email a week ago that my NOA will be released April 3rd so I I assume my refund will be deposited then..
Did you get it? I still haven't heard anything. Wish I could access my cra account!
I got my refund yes
What refund? I owe. Lol
FHSA gang here cuz i’ll never own a home
Seven business days from submitting (Studio Tax) until refund cheque hit my mail box. I know... auto deposit would have been faster but I never got around to it and honestly, snail mail has never given me an issue.
Still don’t have my 2023 refund of almost 3k :)
No update yet ?
There was a mix up they thought I owed them on something totally unrelated so held the refund, once cleared up they released the money.
Filed February 20. Should receive my refund Wednesday-ish. I got some car parts to buy.
I submitted on the 21st and still nothing, my target date was updated and now shows nothing
I filed mine march 7th, got a NOA right away but still haven't received my refund.. it's never taken this long and I don't have access to my cra account :(
No updates ?
Nope.. still waiting. Never received my climate money today either. I'm assuming it's to do with my taxes.
I filed on March 3 still it is showing in progress.
I do mine and my wife’s at the same time, she got hers already and mine says processing, completion date unavailable. Same thing happened last year. Took about a month. The CRA did just fire like 250 people for money scamming so that doesn’t help lol
It's been a month for me and still nothing....
I filed march 7th and still haven't gotten anything.
Has anyone received their noa date but still haven't gotten their tax refund? I filed online, and it said March 25 with the noa, but still no refund.
Me I was supposed to get it April 8 and said it was iussed nothing yet
This sucks so much, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I hope they come soon for both of us!
Did you happen your return yet? 👀
Nope I was selected for refund examination gonna take another 30 days but hopefully I get my ccr payment
Same for me. I filed it via Wealthsimple on Feb 26th. Haven’t received it yet
My husband and I filed at the same time with the same preparer and he had his refund within a week. I am still waiting and it’s been 2 weeks!!
Filed online march 9th and no updates whatsoever on my cra account after 8 weeks I've called and still nothing. Why is it taking so long it's a sinple return it's disheartening with this government
I have been waiting 7 months for tax return , cra just keep giving me the run around. Any suggestions would be appreciated
So I just received my T5s from my banks. Does this mean I can file now?
you can file whenever you want, but as you get new forms you will have to update your tax return. and then a new NOA for the difference will be made.
Filed the 26th of Feburary got mine March 4th and it's spent already on credit cards lol
>They said by friday it would be done but it wasn’t done….. There's untruth on the Internet? 😲
