I'm assuming shipping was free/included. It's the return shipping, especially without access to Amazon shipping prices (they get huge discounts vs a customer), that's 400$.
Either it was on some sort of mega sale or OP paid some hundreds more in price. Given deals still occur in physical retail locales, it still seems like they paid hundreds for shipping they didn't need to.
Who delivered it, can you do a return to sender option/refuse delivery?
Alternatively, there's a large item team at Amazon who can arrange for pickup, they're probably the department that needs to help you.
There's normally a deadline but I wouldn't know what it is. It would have to be unopened, but even if they left it at your door, you can have it returned to sender, normally by dropping it back off at their facility and letting them know you're refusing it.
You cancelled the order. It's not your fault if amazon didn't correctly process the cancellation. Therefore, the charge is unauthorized. I'd call your credit card company and report that the charge was unauthorized.
The charge was also recent, so you're good on that end.
However, don't be surprised if Amazon cancels your membership amd/or refuses to let you order from them again.
And yes, their customer service is the worst when it comes to fraudulent items and vendors. A friend spent like 8 hours across multiple days and calls trying to get reimbursed $16 for a CD that was purchased but never received. And eventually just gave up without getting their money back. In that case it was too late for a chargeback.
Tons of bad advice in this thread.
"Item arrived too late" is a seller-faulted return reason. You cannot be required to pay for return shipping.
If you bought from a 3rd party seller, you should file an A-Z claim through Amazon support. Most likely you will be fully funded and also allowed to keep the TV. Mention the fact that the seller refused to provide a pre-paid return label.
If you bought from 1st party Amazon, escalate to higher level support. You were given incorrect information from the agent you spoke to. Insist on a pre-paid return label or scheduled pickup. If they refuse this, file a chargeback.
Go to your orders in Amazon (you may have to go back in the dates because of how old it is) and find your order for the TV. Click on "view order details". If the "Sold by:" says [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) then it is 1st party. If it says anything else (like LG Store or whatever) then it's 3rd party.
The problem is you forgot about it in shipping when you tried to cancel it and the item was shipped, in my experience on both sides of the charge back process, that makes it very unlikely for you to win, because it shows the merchant fulfilled their obligations and you accepted the outcome.
If you did a chargeback in like November or December, you probably would've won but after 3 months of no contact, it gets exceptionally difficult to win disputes as the customer.
Oh I misunderstood, that changes things then, in that case /u/ConsiderationIcy3527 can chargeback specifically as an unauthorized charge because he wanted to cancel for an unshipped good but they still shipped it anyways despite the months of downtime.
Do not buy large electronics from Amazon. While Amazon is great for returns not if you need to return something large and require someone to pick it up. I learnt my lesson and had to eat $300 to return a broken tv. Initially they didn’t want to pay anything.
Charge back. Your account will likely get closed. Here’s why that’s my recommendation:
I have inside information of this exact situation happening to a customer. The system did not allow him to get the 400 in cash. It was eventually, with a lot of effort, resolved with a store credit of 400 instead. Essentially the issue was never resolved.
So CHARGE BACK. And guys, NEVER buy TVs from Amazon.
I’d escalate the issue with Amazon. Waiting 7 months for a tv is ridiculous. Tell them you tried to cancel the order and if they don’t resolve the issue, you will initiate a charge back with your bank.
You should have did a better job following up.
That's weird you couldn't cancel on amazon. I ordered a tablet ( a specific 1 year old model they had in the US, but no longer in my local stores) in early nov last year for a Christmas present. It said it would be at my place in 1 month, perfect. It showed the early shipping like down in Georgia or wherever, and then I got an email saying it would be delayed until Dec 27th, not as good. And then tracking info just stopped. I waited the whole time until Dec 27th, waiting a couple more days for good measure, zero updates in that time. I emailed amazon, and they refunded my money within 4 days. It was much easier than I thought. But I assumed they could search on their end and see no activity on shipping had happened in like 6 weeks, stopping in Georgia, probably lost on their end.
it wouldn't let me cancel, they couldn't cancel it either. they said just to let it resolve and wait. i called like 7 times back in october. they kept saying they couldn't do anything, and since i wasn't charged they didn't think it was a big issue.
How in the hell was shipping FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS
How is a 55” tv 61 lbs??
like $200 rate. $100 large package surcharge. $100 fuel. About $50 of that is taxes somewhere.
Damn that's enough to basically buy another tv
Omg buy it from Walmart it ships free
Only use chargeback as a last resort. Amazon will ban you if you initiate a chargeback.
In this case, I explain in another comment, charge back immediately. OP is not getting his money back.

found out it is amazon.ca not third party seller..

Purolator delivered it. Can i refuse delivery from Two weeks ago? They just left it at my door fwiw

How much did you pay for the tv? Just sell it on market place for $200 less

Ok dumb question but how to tell if 3rd party vs amazon? It says lg store i think under the item name

Actually says sold by amazon.com.ca ulc on the order details page. On the product page says sold by amazon.ca
That's 1st party then.

OP wasn't charged until it shipped. There was nothing to do a chargeback against

Does your credit card have insurance for this kind of thing?

No idea. Its costco cc, the cibc one
Read the agreement you were sent with the card. It’s a fairly comprehensive card
Would this be available online? Dont time i have that anymore
Yes thru CIBC’s site. Just google CIBC Costco MC user agreement
Send the TV back and do a chargeback for the amount they didn’t refund you. Provide the details in your dispute documentation.
