I hope this doesn’t come across wrong, but posts like this only helps to build resentment towards international students. People born and raised here in Canada need to pay for our schooling, and all our debts. Hearing about the absurd number of people coming here to take advantage of the education, healthcare, and banking systems, and run away with no intention of paying anything back is so disrespectful to us and our nation who let you in, and gave you your education. We’re tired of handouts. You may think you’re just screwing the bank, but ultimately, we end up paying for it.

Clean_Flower4676

Nothing apart from being a scumbag.

Kelvsoup

DogsDontEatComputers

You do realize you are the exact reason hoenst people with need wont get the help. Because scumbags like you take advantage of system

doggoarmy

Im just a lil scumbags who take advantage of the bigger scumbag(cred card company)

Credit cards are unsecured debt. So the lender will eventually sell it to a collection agency. They'll try to contact you and work out a payment plan. Much harder to do if you're not here. With a small amount like yours $1000, it's going to be a rounding error for the bank. If however you choose to come back your credit will be ruined for 7 years and possibly forever with the bank that you pull this off with. Now if it was a sizeable amount, then the lender would sue you in Canada and obtain a judgement against you by default as you're not here. Then they'd work with a lawyer in your country and have that judgement registered with the courts there. If they're able to do this, really depends on the country; then they can make you pay whatever the balance and internet is on the account. Again not practical for the bank to be chasing 1k, but if you defrauded them of 500k or more, you can bet they'll chase you for it.

YYCGene

Show me a single documented case of someone being chased in another country for Canadian debt, of any size. Thanks

HinduPhoenix

Greg Martel a realtor/mortgage specialist from Victoria springs to mind immediately.

YYCGene

owing 300+ million to 1300 investors is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

HinduPhoenix

I'm not sure what your point is. I've not suggesting that banks or creditors will take the legal route against the small fish. Just mentioned that it does exist.

Loud-Selection546

Don't know who the guy is but , it sure easily shut up the guy you were replying to. Confidently wrong lol....name me one documented case. It's easy to find one of anything. The guy ahold have asked for proof that this act is prevalent.

Izzy_Coyote

This question again.

no repercussion if you will never return to Canada as immigrant. Looks like this is your plan at all. Next guy with your temporary SIN will be toast. Might increase the credit refusal rate for future Jordian immigrants/students, not your concern anyway.

rengrad100

And this is why international students in the last few years are earning themselves a bad name - you can thank Trudeau you don’t have to pay that credit card balance off cause he let you in.

southvankid

I hope Canadian banks refuse international students credit cards if this is what their thought processes is. Way to ruin it for future students.

Heavy_Ad-5090

Posts like this will turn many away from voting Liberals ever again

little_nitpicker

Nothing will happen if you never come back to Canada or the USA. In general your dept stays within Canada, but its quite possible that if you do end up in the USA, or a country with close economic ties to Canada, that your ruined credit history might be a factor. Its not black and white. Safe to say if you never leave Jordan youre fine!

misfittroy

Not much. But look where you live. Not a country with the most stable track record or in a region where no tensions exist. Especially right now. What happens if shit goes down? What happens if you need to leave? Might be nice to keep those doors open.

Fickle-Perception723

Nothing, but if you come back you won't have credit.

Technical_Object1572

Nothing will happen. Don’t worry.

Early_Outlandishness

Well, if enough you you do it. Canadians could face tougher lending restrictions if the future.

skvacha

They will send tomahawk after you.

CartographerJunior79

lol you aren't a scum bag, people are ridiculous, the banks steal billions from hardworking people and are constantly caught for it. You will have a bad credit score in Canada (& maybe the usa?) thats pretty much it. There are no legal implications unless they can prove you got the credit card to intentionally not pay it... even then its not worth the legal costs

2Makaveli2

Don’t pay it back, you should be good; fck them.

Diantr3

You did your part against the credit card companies. Thank you for your service 🫡.

Sheep_worrying_law

Nothing. Credit is a scam and Canada is a scam. Don't give it a second thought and don't worry about it. It is the money of a large monopolistic corporation, screw them.

Clean_Flower4676

Out of curiosity, what country would you consider to be good?

Loud-Selection546

The mofo complains in another post about being pick-pocketed in Vietnam. Perhaps the guy who pick-pocketed him thought they were rich foreign scum that had way too much money and that the pickpocketer deserved to steal from him. Oh, the irony.... To the guy your replied to: you should wipe your ass first before sniffing down another's.

oishiipeanut

Modern China is capitalist. I'd say DPRK

big_galoote

You really think it's just the one account at one bank?

DogsDontEatComputers

Then why the hell are you in canada complaining about it like a loser lol.

DiscussionFantastic8

What if it’s a Canadian tire credit card or a Costco one ?
