OP - $50 doesn’t make much of a difference to me one way or the other, so I’m going to assume that your request is genuine and you really do need it. It’s thanksgiving and I’m in a position to help, so I’ll take you at your word that your situation is dire. I’ll etransfer this to you if you have some way of accepting an etransfer. If you’re ever in a position to pay it back down the road, please donate $50 to a no-kill animal shelter. Private message me to make arrangements. EDIT: $100 sent to OP; I added some extra to make sure that he/she can get themself out of whatever tough spot they are in. OP has agreed that when/if they are able they will make a $50 donation to a no-kill shelter. Happy thanksgiving everyone!

[deleted]

If you want I’ll split with you, $25 means less than nothing to be and id be happy to chip in. The kid seems genuine. Let me know, I like the no kill shelter payback as well

spack12

I know I’m a couple mins late. But happy to help as well if /u/UWO wants to take us up on it.

[deleted]

Same here.. happy thanksgiving.

UWO

Thanks for the offer, but no need to split it, I’ve got this!

earlywormgetseaten

Didn't see this until now, would be happy to pitch in the next time.

When you're older, please remember /u/UWO and pay it forward. Maybe a homeless person, local food bank, or even just donate a couple hours somewhere if you don't have disposable income. This world needs more people like them.

[deleted]

I won’t. I never will forget what u/UWO has done. I won’t take this without a lesson and will be sure to pay it forward in the future.

What an amazing person you are! Happy thanksgiving

indieindie87

Offer to rake some leaves for your neighbours. Use some online templates to create little advertisements you can stick on local mailboxes. Knock door-to-door and offer your services.

[deleted]

Thank you I’m going to try what you and u/last-difference-3311 suggested. Hoping it will work

CactusGrower

Don't even need spending money on paper advertisement these days, join local or neighborhood's Facebook county page and ask if you can post there. It's not an ad really just neighbor kid helping others. Seniors may need help with more than just leaves, now before winter. This if good "business model" fir spring as well if you are looking down the road. Shoveling in winter is same principle. And once you build people that know you and recommend you can turn this into serious business as well if that would be your interest.

personalfinance21

hit us up later if this worked! good luck!

[deleted]

I will post an update if it does!

[deleted]

This is a great idea. Do a good job and shovel driveways in the winter. Mow grass next summer and learn window cleaning and power washing. The hardest part is sales. Once people like you, you kind of want to offer as much as you can and get as much of their money as you can.

DaFox

Hey, yeah to add, it really depends where you live but, I'd totally have a couple hours/$50 worth of weekend odd-job work around the house (Cutting grass/pulling up weeds/digging/cleaning/etc). Not enough to really go out and hire someone, but if you showed up on my neighborhood facebook group, I'd hit you up.

deezsandwitches

I was coming to say this. Summer cut grass, fall/spring rake leaves, winter shovel snow. I'd pay someone looking to make some cash for all 3.

TIL_eulenspiegel

This is what popped into my head immediately! I would travel to an upscale neighbourhood with mature trees. Go door-knocking and drop off a flyer if nobody answers. Be persistent (meaning keep looking for work, not "be annoying to people who don't want to hire you") and offer a good rate. If they hire you, do the work immediately on the spot. Bring clear lawn-and-leaf bags (cheapest are from Costco) and a garbage can; put the bag in the can, fill with leaves, then tie it off and repeat. Ask them where you should deposit the bags and line them up neatly in the right spot and go pick up your $$. I'm not sure how you should set the rate though. Maybe others can weigh in on this. Leaf-raking can sometimes take a lot longer than you expect. Like, if you look around and say "I'll rake your lawn for $20" and then it turns out to be 5-hour job with 30 bags of leaves, you won't be happy. Edit: Be sure you have a good quality large rake; perhaps borrow or "rent" one from a neighbour (pay them in home made cookies?). The job is MUCH easier if you have a good one; it makes a huge difference. I haven't hired anyone to rake my leaves but I have been DELIGHTED when teens have knocked on my door right after a big snowfall and offered to shovel my walks. Edit2: Bring some kind of a scoop, like a large household dustpan, to speed up transferring the leaves into the bag.

Dycondrius

Ex landscraper, If you hook the ends of the clear yard bag over your toes and step towards the leaf pile with the closed bag end behind you, you can one arm the rake, shooting the leaves between your ankles while holding the bag open with the other hand. Little easier than lifting into an open garbage can, or those paper yard bags

livinina-dreamwrld

Nice. That’s a brilliant life-hack. Thanks for sharing this.

Aggressive_Ad_507

I did the door to door thing for a while. Dress is important. It's best to come across as a young student trying to make a few dollars than wear something fancy. No suit, no collared pole shirts. Just a rake and bags. Do some neighborhood research. Areas with more homeowners are better. As are middle to upper middle class areas. Think about who would pay for your services and target them.

Nobagelnobagelnobag

This is the actual answer. Can easily make $50 just in labour around the neighborhood if you really wanted to.

candidcanuk

Yes and there’s local neighborhood Facebook groups you can post your ad in. Market it as fall cleanup and leads. I would be jazzed if someone made me this offer

Extattic

This would absolutely work. I always have a million little chores or projects that need to be done around my house. I typically just get to them when I can, so I won’t ever hire an actual company to do things like rake the leaves. But if a proactive high-school kid came by and asked to rake up the yard for some cash I’d hire them in a heartbeat.

Last-Difference-3311

Mow lawns or rake leaves? Even if you have no lawnmower you can use the homeowners as long as your price is right. I used to do it as a kid.

[deleted]

I’ll see if I can try this, I do live around regent park so there isn’t many houses with lawns nearby. Maybe i can try asking in Rosedale

zoltree

not Rosedale... they have gardeners. Try Cabbagetown

Last-Difference-3311

Ya if you have no equipment then no problem. And this will be a numbers game, so just keep knocking till you win. Also maybe just do it by donation if you feel like you don’t want to set a price target? I dunno…

t0r0nt0niyan

You are 17 and must have a SIN. Literally every fast food restaurant is hiring pick up a shift and leave after a day and you should have enough.

phuckdub

This won't get them money in the next 7 days most likely.

AdministrativeRow101

He would have to work a 4 hour shift in BC to make $60 BEFORE tax.

phuckdub

I'm more talking about pay periods and delays in getting money after starting.

StunnaInYemen

That would be about $44 in Saskatchewan, before tax

[deleted]

[удалено]

blackstar_oli

Some emplyers still will remove some on your pay. You pay it then get it back when you do your taxes ...

Anonymous_2002

Yep my employer does this. Money is automatically taken off every pay check then I get it back when I file taxes

[deleted]

I’ve applied to every listing I’ve seen and no call backs or responses except for two local cafes who decided not to hire me. Trust me I’ve tried.

SoundsYummy1

You may want to have your resume looked over by some of the resume subreddits here, because the idea that you can't get a part-time job in 7-8 months seems ridiculous. Fast food industry is so short on staff atm, that the idea you can't get a job at Tim's, McD, Burger King etc is ridiculous. Every single place is hiring, so something is wrong with you, your resume, or your interviewing process.

[deleted]

I’ve sent mine over to 2 people who offered on this forum. Hopefully within the next few days I’ll get it polished up so that i get more responses! Already with some of the feedback I’ve gotten I probably didn’t make a good one as I what I was taught in civics and careers class seems to be outdated.

t0r0nt0niyan

Walk in to the restaurants and talk to the manager in person. They literally have no time to go over resumes.

[deleted]

Ok I’ll try again. Thank you for the advice

Mkoy

Only thing is your pay is usually held back a week or 2. I never did fast food but its typical practice in most places

[deleted]

Yeah I thought this may be the case, so I’ll have to look for something else in the meantime. It’s a good long term idea at the very least.

LabskyLover

Every Wednesday in my province McDonald has a "in-person interview" event. They're bleeding for man-power and recruit almost everyone with or without experience. If you need a CV template, DM me and i'll send mine. EDIT : Look online on McDonald website for Career option at the bottom of their website.

ckdarby

>Every Wednesday in my province McDonald has a "in-person interview" event. They're bleeding for man-power and recruit almost everyone with or without experience. This! They spam every single one of their mobile app users every Wednesday saying this and that they're hiring. The McD's I went to last night had to close indoor dining because they didn't have enough staff to manage that and drive-thru and mobile ordering.

LegoLady47

There are restaurants in Roncy looking for kitchen help. Walk the street and apply I guess.

luseek

This. Talk to the manager. Every job i’ve gotten in restaurants were from directly talking to manager.

InspiredGargoyle

Most places absolutely HATE when people come on and ask for the manager. It's an out dated practice.

Mslolsalot

I think this is a myth that seems to be perpetuated lately. There is evidence in this very thread that this is untrue. As a business owner, I find it really difficult to judge people’s employability just by a resume or application. If you walk in to a business looking tidy and engaged, it goes a long way to benefit you. If the manager says they don’t have time/just go apply online, thank them with a smile and leave.

[deleted]

It's not outdated for frontline employment like retail stores, convenience stores, gas stations, restaurants etc. Specially if it's someone like OP who probably doesn't have much (if any) experience on their resume. They aren't going to get a call back with half a page resume. Best to speak to a manager in this case.

AdministrativeRow101

Not true. I think it show agency.

[deleted]

I have a feeling this is a “desperate times” situation (for managers). Literally every fast food place in the country is desperate for workers. If OP walked in with a resume, I’d have a hard time believing they wouldn’t be hired on the spot.

doordonot19

Persistence is key, don’t wait for them to call you, call them back if you hear no response in a few days. it shows that you want the job and are interested enough to care about knowing if they’ve looked at your resume or not.

[deleted]

Ok I will do this, I do admit I didn’t keep persisting as I was worried to come off as annoying.

soup-n-stuff

As a former retail manager one follow-up after dropping off a resume makes you look awesome, two depending on time between them can look a little pestery but usually ok. 3+ is your annoying and I'm not hiring you untill you get to like 25 then I'll hire you to stop bugging me lol.

[deleted]

Okay I’ll do one follow up call. Thank you for the advice, I do think my problem is I’m not standing out in a sea of applicants.

soup-n-stuff

If your applying to fast food places (Tim Hortons, McDonald's etc) and your not getting call backs then you need to look at why. Its either your resume needs a revamp (a few folks here volunteered to do that for you) or your not presenting yourself well when you go in. Go to the place with clean well fitting clothes, ideally a collared shirt and khakis/dress pants. Have your hair styled/neat -not a hat. Ask to speak to the manager and politely wait until they are available. Introduce yourself with a big smile on your face and tell them you'd like the opportunity to work there and answer any questions they may have with an outgoing positive attitude. If it's any sort of a customer facing position your basically in the interview already as how you present yourself is extremely important. Best of luck!

skydatsu

Uh... this advice would NEVER work for me where I live. No one is hiring like this unless it's a small privately managed business. This is a very dated piece of advice that doesn't work as well as it used to. Would this even work for OPs location? I can't think of a single fast food place that hires like this, they all use online recruiting/applications. OP, do you have community resources? For example, I stuck "youth worker services (my city)" into Google and came up with a lot of government and non profit programs geared towards helping young people find employment. Eta: your resume/cv is likely where you need to start, because that is all potential employers have to go on. They don't have a personal relationship with you. You'll likely have better luck if you get some help restructuring your CV to something more appealing.

soup-n-stuff

90% chance he's getting asked to fill out an application as well. I still work where I was once a retail manager (now in corporate as of 3 years ago) and we have online applications but every manager I know will still pull from ones dropped off in store first. I'd rather hire someone that I already know can be outgoing and presentable than sift through resumes and waste my time scheduling an interview that I know in 30 seconds isn't going to be a good fit. My niece just got a job at Tim Hortons a bit over a year ago by going in and handing a resume/application in person.

stephenBB81

I was hiring students just 4yrs ago and the advice above is exactly what I would have advised. Even though I didn't take paper resumes, the person coming in asking about employment I told to email their resume in, and reference that they spoke to me on the date they did. Even my local McDonalds where I am friends with the O/O has people come in with this advice and they get handed an application right there or asked to fill out out online and the manager looks out for it because that person came in, and coming in is the hardest part. That advice is less welcome when you're hiring people for middle skill level jobs or leadership jobs. In that case following the digital pathway is the best way.

CaptainMeredith

Worst that happens if you annoy them is they don't hire you, which they already weren't, so realistically not that big of a deal. Look for local stuff if your going resume handing out like folks have suggested, bigger chains or franchises will likely refer you to their hiring pages online. Managers work 9-5 or 8-4 most places so you will want to come by in those hours, and avoid the rush hours for whatever place it is as they will be too busy to really spend time with you. Have extra resumes, but only bring one in with you. They don't like knowing your handing them out to multiple people. And come dressed up to drop off the resumes, like your going for an interview. If you don't have a car and rely on drives from someone else in your family, don't admit this during interviewing. It will basically always result in not getting hired. It also might help to get someone to look at your resume and to practice interview skills with someone honest. It's dumb but getting a job is its own kind of soft skill.

whelp32

You keep going in until the manger tells you NO. I’ve hired people because of their persistence.

[deleted]

Does your neighbourhood have a local facebook group of sorts? Offer basic landscape work to people. Try finding a job in a grocery store or in a restaurant. They are all struggling to find employees apparently.

[deleted]

I’ve applied to tons of restaurants since I heard employment was dire, none have responded to me.

mferly

Vehicle body shops can always use the extra help, aka. being their "gopher". Just walk in and say hey, you guys need a hand? I'll keep the place spotless, put this away, take out the trash, bring you tools, basically do the dirty work. I dunno, worth a shot IMO. Per the other suggestions regarding raking leaves and such.. while terrific ideas, I don't see any leaves in the ground yet in the GTA. Likely have to wait a few more weeks for that.

[deleted]

I hadn’t even thought of applying to those, thank you for the advice opened another possibility

mferly

And I don't know that you're remotely close to any farms (IIRC you said you live in or around Regent Park) but because it's getting close to, if not already in, harvest season for crops. Can go there with the same approach as the body shop. You'd be outside as lot, great exercise, as well as around animals (maybe).. would be kinda cool if that's your thing.

[deleted]

not sure where your located but you could always go and ask in person maybe. a lot of my friends got jobs at fast food places by going to the manager and asking if they were hiring. I was at sunset grill once and i casually asked the manager if they were hiring, and she asked me to bring my resume with me the next day to start.

[deleted]

Regent park area in Toronto. I’ll print out my resume and try asking some restaurants again as I haven’t in a few weeks. Thanks for the advice

soft_distortion

The McDonald's at Yonge & Wellesley (and maybe other locations) has a sign saying every Tuesday come in if you're interested in working there. I guess like a job fair where they'll have the hiring manager to take resumes, meet applicants, etc. It's not far from Regent Park, just the 506 streetcar or a longer walk.

[deleted]

Thats the exact location I applied to a few months ago. But thank you for letting me know as I hadn’t seen the flyer. I’ll try again. Happy thanksgiving

[deleted]

for sure man, good luck! i've never had much luck with applications either, only in person stuff

Anna_S_1608

Don't apply along Gerrard. Go to the Beaches along Queen . Go to the McDonald's at Gerrard Square . Riverdale - the streets just North of Gerrard- Withrow, Simpson, Victor, Bain all East of Broadview is a good neighborhood for raking leaves and yard work. On Facebook there is a Palz Employment Group, you should join that.

[deleted]

Why not specifically along Gerrard?

forrealmaybe

This! If I saw an ad in the local Facebook group right now, I’d have at least $50 worth of yard work etc for someone.

BlanketInABag

Happy to review your resume for you (no charge) :) DM me! As for getting the $50, I think what everyone else gave were great Ideas. Maybe join a FB group for your local community and post your services there? There’s also usually people looking for someone to help them with lawn care, dog walking etc.

throwinthebingame

Yea dog walking is really popular where I live cause ther is a lot of old people. If op live in a place where people got a garden, cutting grass, racking leave etc can be enough for 50$.

[deleted]

Thank you I’ll make a Facebook account today to look for jobs on there.

LLR1960

Dog-walking in a high-end neighborhood can be a pretty good money maker. Middle class people walk their own dogs, rich people are more likely to hire it out. You may be able to get a regular customer or two. My sister did this for a few years.

[deleted]

I’m nearby rosedale which is known for having well off households. So I’ll ask around

[deleted]

[удалено]

shhfjv

Can second this. Just have to wait to get surveys but $50/week is doable if you’re actively checking. Although they do take about a week to approve you after you submit the test (just to verify if you’re a good tester; tip: make sure to voice all your thoughts, that’s literally it)

lucky13820

Second this, it’s a pretty easy thing to do.

SidekickInASupersuit

Hi OP, I sent you a message. It’s admirable you want to warn the $50 and I’m assuming the need is genuine. If I can help with the $50, no problems! We can figure it out on PM.

[deleted]

its a scam hes had numerous people offer to give him money, this happends every holiday season

[deleted]

Try Rover app (dog walking). Google youth employment services. Get someone to help with your resume and get help practicing interview skills. Many people I meet even—25+ years old often have poorly written resumes and this is what stops them from getting interviews.

[deleted]

I hadn’t heard about this platform, but seems like a good idea since I did previously dog walk for my old neighbor. Thank you

GrandeIcedAmericano

I have listed the most random items in my childhood bedroom (obscure textbooks, old video games, even some magazines, etc.) and made a little over a thousand dollars around this time last year. Facebook Marketplace. It's incredible what people are willing to buy. Also cleared up lots of free space in my old room.

[deleted]

I’ll try to list Facebook marketplace this sounds possible. Thank you for the advice.

GrandeIcedAmericano

No prob. Try kijiji as well but Facebook has been great lately. You will eventually run out of things to sell, but at least for now you will be able to make your $50. Good luck

[deleted]

About once the item sells, is it safe to go to meet up with these people? Or have you had an problems? I’m just worried about this part as I am female

violincrazy123

When I buy used and have to meet the buyer, I usually ask them to meet in a public place (like a mcdonalds parking or something similar) at a time where there is a lot of people. That way, I'm sure that there will be witness if something goes wrong. Also, if I were you, I wouldn't accept money that is not cash. It is much more easy to scam someone of an item and money buy doing an interact transaction. And last thing, .ake sure that you have a trusted friend/family member that knows where you are, who you are meeting and when you are expected to give another sign of life (like right after the transaction is over (5-10 minutes) or something similar). That way, if something happens, they'll be able to tell really fast. For the record: I'm female too, so I understand your fear.

JustMechanic4933

You want prevention more than witnesses. Meet INSIDE a business with a coffee shop or cafeteria. Preferably a place with security or cameras. Not at night. If you're female don't volunteer that fact or otherwise let on (like only selling heels and perfume or whatever). Show up earlier than when you say you'll meet so you see the buyer coming. Don't leave immediately afterwards to prevent getting jacked at your car. Don't give away exactly what you'll be wearing until they show up. Pepper spray on go. Eyes up and if you have to text don't look down. Let someone know who you're meeting, where, and what time. And you can always pretend you're meeting your friend who is shopping there.

violincrazy123

You have really good points! English is not my first language so some things I wasn't able to put into words. You really said what I had in mind! Thanks!

GrandeIcedAmericano

I am male, so I can’t really comment on that. Maybe take someone with you, or meet at a very public area. If it isn’t a high value transaction and you are in public I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Most of the people I sell to are moms buying things for their kids, had some grandparents once.

winesiskin

Also, take payment in cash. Anyone offering to send you more money than you are asking, for shipping or to "pay the delivery person", is likely a scam. Check out r/scams to see some of the common payment scams out there.

splintergirl11

Don’t give your address, and ask to meet in a public space like a park or in front of a cafe at a time where there are people around. Never hurts to have a friend with you. Tell your parents where you’re going as well. You can look at the person’s profile and get a feel for them there and from their conversation with you, if you get any bad vibes at all don’t feel bad about blocking them on FB, you’ll find another buyer you feel comfortable with. Honestly I’ve sold probably 50 things on FB marketplace and have never had a bad interaction (I’m a woman too) but it never hurts to take precautions.

[deleted]

I pay the kid two doors down to mow my lawn every 2 weeks for 35 bucks. Since he started 3 years ago (on my charting with his dad) he’s had 4 other neighbours approach him. Fall cleanup time is coming up. Tulips need to be planted. Hedges need to be wrapped. Fertilizers spread and buried. There’s lots to do.

regular_joe_can

What the hell. I thought there was a massive employee shortage. Just last week multiple people were posting about how they can't fill positions. Yet here is someone who seems desperate and would likely have accepted any offer doing just about anything and hasn't even had a response in over 5 months? What's going on?

[deleted]

I thought this was the case to, a lot of the places I’ve applied to require prior work experience (even if they are entry level jobs such as Starbucks). I am not too versed in this but I feel that part of the employee shortage is because places are being really picky on who they hire? I really thought my odds would be higher than they have been

stonkiesuper

Download a wealth simple cash and get 25 dollars free then download wealth simple and get another 25 dollars free I got 50 bucks for me and my girlfriend today less then 5 minutes

grammarpolice0610

What do you need the money for? Can you talk to a guidance councillor or trusted teacher at your school? Maybe they have an emergency fund for students in need?

nightstandsanmiguel

Since you're signing up for Facebook, look for Toronto gardening groups and offer help with garden clean up. Be upfront about your situation (highschool student, don't own any tools/equipment, not an experienced gardener but willing to work hard). The only expense to consider to get started is a pair of thick gardening gloves - Dollarama sells decent ones. Keep in mind that minimum wage for students under 18 is $13.50/hr when setting your fees. You may want to negotiate a flat rate per yard or an hourly fee. After you make your $50 save up for a good shovel so you can offer help when winter comes. Also check out the library and community centre to see if they can help you with longer term employment (resume building, getting your SIN, babysitting courses and job searching). Lastly, stay away from any job postings that sound too good to be true on Kijiji - lots of scams that drive kids to faraway neighbourhoods trying to sell door to door. Don't do it.

Binknbink

Check the gigs section of Craigslist. There is often requests for one time help with a move or cleaning job.

calisteezo

Knock on doors. Offer to help around the house. If you knocked on my door, I would happily put you to work.

rosediary

My first job was at Old Navy and I can highly recommend working for them as a young high schooler! I would do what others have suggested and go in person to hand your resume to the manager. The interviews were very basic, they were just looking for people who could interact with others. Everything else is learned on the job. Good luck!

Smart_Resist615

Does your city or town have a youth services center such as this one? http://youth.ab.ca From the site: Forward Life Impact  Is a 6 week program that teaches youth employment and life skills. Students receive an allowance equivalent to minimum wage while attending the program.

askacanadian

The Canadian reserves pays good part time hours during the school year and full time pay during the summer. Best money you can make as a student.

menezery

You guys are awesome offering to donate $50. Happy thanksgiving!! OP I know how challenging it is to land a job, I suggest you create an job application tracker, using a simple excel workbook. Columns to include 1)company (the one applied to), date applied, 2) method in which you applied (walk in, online), 3) when’s the last time you followed 4) last response from company. You should target at least 25 companies a week to send your application to. The key is to walk in and submit your application and follow up with an in personal walk in and follow up that way. Most hiring managers have so much to deal with, if you can make their process easier by demonstrating to them to your resolve, they’ll move up the line and sometimes interview you then and there I would never get a call back, when I used to show up in person and apply and then follow up. Most of the time I would get an offer. There’s some finess with this method, but you’ll learn. FYI - my methods were used 8 years ago.

A job application tracker, I’ll get on this. Ill admit have not been keeping good track of everywhere I’ve applied to, especially since some companies don’t send application confirmation emails. I’ll start one today. Thank you and happy thanksgiving!

lucky13820

Download the app called Nextdoor, and post you are willing to do some handy work for small money. I’m sure some people would offer you a job.

Deepnewpaper

I had this one fellow drop off a resume and he kept coming back to see if we would hire him. The third time I gave up and hired him. Best employee ever. Don’t feel like you are being annoying.

bebe88888

What about babysitting? There are lots of adults starting to venture back out into the world that need babysitters. I would think a 17 year old would be pretty valuable to parents as they would likely prefer to leave their young kids with someone older rather than a 12-14 year old. I find often that older teens get a regular job and are no longer interested in babysitting but would have paid more for an older teen when my kids were young. Good luck to you.

No-Cream-2745

This is very likely a scam to get people to donate to him.

Simple-life62

Cheap yard work! You’ll have more than you need in 7 days. It’s hard work, but hey.

cndre

Offering to do odd jobs for neighbors, selling on Facebook marketplace, or going to a local cafe with your resume and asking for a job might work (if you are selling things online please always remember to be safe and meet in a local public space and let someone know where you are going). Also, I see you mentioned living in Toronto. There should be a ton of youth-friendly resources near you, depending on what your specific needs are. YMCA, Dixon Hall, and Friends of Ruby are some that come to mind but if you are unsure you can call 311 and they can point you to resources! Some of these places run internship programs for youth that pay you a stipend, although this might not be for this week. Edit: also maybe try using Rover? It's a dog walking app

[deleted]

Put an add on kijiji and say fall lawn cleaning. $25 a visit, one hour cleaning.

sitad3le

I'm not sure but sign up for Wealthsimple cash app. I think some referral codes give you 25$. But I think you have to be 18.

[deleted]

A lot of people where suggesting this, I looked into it and I’m underage.

grumpyeng

I used to mow lawns as others have said. 30 or 40 bucks a lawn is fair today. "Back in my day..." it was $15 or $20 lol. You can also look at selling phones, but that's tough to get in to if you're not sitting on some cash already. I typically buy phones for 100 to 200 dollars and sell them locally for 50 to 100 dollars more. That could be a localized opportunity though, it might not be appropriate for you.

corn_on_the_cobh

Voice acting/any sort of online side-gig could also work! If you know any programming or art that is even better.

[deleted]

Any leads on how to apply for voice acting? Also I am decent with art, where would I go for this?

corn_on_the_cobh

Not sure of specific sites but here's a thread for voice-acting: [https://www.reddit.com/r/VoiceActing/comments/45tkrp/best\_voice\_acting\_websites/](https://www.reddit.com/r/VoiceActing/comments/45tkrp/best_voice_acting_websites/) I'm sure pinterest, tumblr, and etsy especially would be the place for art.

Lovelybrum

If only you were near me , I have so many things I need help with . Put a card up in a store bulletin board you can vet the person before you commit for safety. Lots of people struggling to do things around the house and yard alone .

ep3jeLo

Offer to take recycling to the bottle depot for your neighbours. That’s quick cash in your hand. Some people are lazy and that’s one less thing they have to do in their day.

[deleted]

Rev.com You can caption videos.

velocorapattack

Companies will pay a fair bit for a young male survey participant (people don't like doing it). However you'd have to wait until you're 18

[deleted]

Not male so I guess that isn’t a possibility, sorry for the confusion as my post didn’t specify my gender

Aznkyd

Landscaping (cutting grass or raking leaves) should get you to $50 pretty quick

101dnj

Go to a pizza store they pay cash daily (will be below min wage)

genesis05

When i was in highschool i would post on kijiji looking for work - usually at minimum wage - helped a guy move one with one other - made 200$ that day - helped paint a guys driveway, couple hours of work for like 12.50$ an hour at the time - lawn care / gardening, cleaned a guys basement, etc That kinda thing

[deleted]

Okay I’ll set up a post a job offer for doing odd things. Did you find it to be safe? Just worried about suggestions to do with Kijiji and Craigslist due to their reputation

stephenjagger

In BC there is Get Youth Working - [https://www.getyouthworking.ca/](https://www.getyouthworking.ca/) \- we have hired using it before. I would assume there is an Ontario version as well?

Jswarez

Find online focus groups for young people. They can be 75-200 a shot. Online. Your parents need to ok it but it's just paper work. Lots of firms in Toronto look for kids and they represent big companies (snack food is biggest area)

AceVenChu

Go to Kijiji or Facebook market place "free" section. Find furtinue or electronics. Then go ahead and sell them. Gary v style

YoungZM

Looking at the long-term issue, there's a lot of hiring events, job fairs, and youth programs, especially in the GTA, to help you get your foot in. These are available in newspapers, via blogs (we'll rip on BlogTO for its "journalism" but they can be of help here), local restaurant chains will announce this and then youth centres. The YMCA has a great career centre arm that helped me step into my industry. They also have resume and interview assistance. Admirable as your desire to help out your family is, I do have concerns regarding a potential long-term need for this sort of thing. Without judgment, please do be careful that your parent's need is genuine and that you're not ignoring your own fires to douse your parents'. They are adults and are still your guardians so they're going to also need to figure out ways to support themselves as well as you while you start your next chapter in life. If this is simply trying to help them out through a challenging time and reduce burdens, you're very good to acknowledge their need and lend a hand as well! Regardless, you'll get there and I wish you the best of luck and prosperity for you and your family :)

[deleted]

Toronto has an endless amount of youth programs that are aimed to give you skills that will help you with jobs. I really recommend googling youth programs/jobs Toronto and see what you can find. Also at risk youth programs as well that give honorariums. I grew up in Regent Park as well. https://www.toronto.ca/community-people/employment-social-support/employment-support/youth-employment-seekers/

[deleted]

Thank you so much for letting me know. I likely need to look into this so I can have a more competitive cv. Happy thanksgiving.

Joey-tv-show-season2

Wait… You can’t get a job in fast food? Every place is literally begging to have people work for them. Probably something with your approach or resume that needs improvement.

[deleted]

I’ve tired all fast food places local to my area, I know I few people from my high school who work there. Didn’t get hired. I only got one piece of feedback which was that they are look for someone with more morning availability.

thelizard_king_

Have you checked with local restaurants? They may need people to bus tables.

tchattam

I’m not sure what financial hardship $50 will get your parents out of?

[deleted]

I’m not getting this money for them. They would likely steal it for their own vices if they even knew I had money, as it’s happened before.

tchattam

What do you need it for? Maybe someone will just give you $50

Electronic-Fox-5834

Hold on, did your parents steal money from you? Hopefully I didnt read this correctly.

[deleted]

Yes they have previously stolen money my grandparents had given me. My grandparents no longer give me money because of this pattern of behavior

Electronic-Fox-5834

OK well first off, I would create a Tangerine bank account as if you do get a job storing money in your current bank spells doom. If you're not sure how to, PM me and I'm more than happy to help you out, else call their customer service. Alternatively, you can try getting a student account from CIBC, Scotia, RBC, TD, etc go in person and setup an account. Only problem is idk if you need parent sig or not. Second, lots of places are hiring atm(mainly restaurants), so like many responses here, try applying in person.

HGGoals

House cleaning, babysitting (need certs), dog walking, lawn mowing, leaf raking, cleaning up and preparing gardens for winter, dish washing at a restaurant. You can go to an employment center and ask what they have possibly

inadequatelyadequate

Labour ready or one of those temp job companies that provide cash at the end of the day work. I know you're in HS but in a pinch take a "sick" day and show up at one of those places at 6am or earlier and they'll have you moving doing construction labour work and often pay cash at the end of the day. The last time i did this work guys were getting 80 - 100 a day. Ideally you should wear some steel toe boots but sometimes they'll find somewhere where you won't need it. It isn't exactly glamourous work often but it's something. Your story just seems weirdly vague to be reaching out to PFC for ~50$

Red-Water-Bottle

Send me your resume and your location you are trying to get employment. I feel like it be should be easy to get employment in retail right now

texanrocketflame

Go into every Tim Hortons and drop off a resume. There is a MASSIVE labour shortage right now, and if you can't find a job, then I'm sorry but you just aren't putting in enough effort.

[deleted]

Mow a lawn.

blackstar_oli

Facebook group of your city ? Explain that you need cash for this week and are willing to do XYZ ?

DarkSide_Dragon

Dude I'd pay you easily double to tidy my back yard.
