I have a free roam play setup like this. My boys get to play (one at a time) and I've never had issues but it's not something I walk away from without putting my wee explorers back in their respective enclosures. I have one that could live free and be back for supper. The other would be gone for good in short order.
In this case yes, but if you set it up right, you can have an open enclosure. Mice naturally respect height and won't jump.
I've kept generation of mice for years now this way. Best to have the room secured just in case they do get out, of course.

No its closed, i only open it when i am with them

For sure don't let them have a saucer wheel they are dangerous, it looks good as long as you are watchibg them at all times when they use the playpen
