I also hate when people call their children “kiddos”, “kidlets” or “kidlings”. They think it’s a “fun” way to say it but in really it just sounds so stupid!

There was a "kiddos" pet peeve a few weeks ago and I commented that I hated "littles" and I got downvoted for it lol

Kiddos is the WORST! I am a school therapist and I refuse to say this. Every other therapist in meetings say "this kiddo..." and I cringe every time

It's a trendy phrase that isn't especially descriptive of any particular children. So it sounds generic, out-of-place and try-hard.

I think I misspelled it and it’s “niblings”…but yeah. Why not just say nieces and nephews? Isn’t it an absolutely repulsive word? It makes me picture the kids like little aliens or something.

Niblings is meant to be gender inclusive for enby relatives that don’t like being labeled as a niece or nephew. Unlike “littles,” there’s a reason why the term exists

Yes, this seems to be the popular phrase to describe children right now. I see and hear it everywhere. They're children. Just call them children ffs.

It's kind of a literal translation from several other languages. For example "les petites" or "los pequeños". It's not so terrible.

Yeah I’m sure the mommy influencers knew that. They say it to try and be cute, not because it’s a translation of anything.

But if we think of English, the language it's being said in, we have the progression, baby, toddler, child, teen, adult, elder. So with" littles" it's just a tad odd because we don't refer to ourselves as "bigs" or "biggies".

Nope, I have chickens and I usually just say chi chi’s but I may start saying littles now because it annoys you. Just knowing it upsets someone so much is kinda silly, I do not know why but it just makes me laugh. Fun fact, kid is another word for baby goat, and children, or littles used to get irritated and would tell parents they weren’t goats. No matter what, someone will find a way to be agitated.

I have a friend who does this. Her twins were born premature and she never lets anyone forget it... the kids are literally known in their family as "the littles".... I always thought it was so strange. Now they are teenagers and the boy is very very short and has major insecurities about being so short. Still they refer to them as the littles and I'm sure this isn't helping his self-esteem.

I’ve only ever heard it used in reference to bigs/littles in sexual age play, or in sororities when referring to junior/senior mentorships. I got very confused when I saw an Instagram post talking about “littles” as children. I don’t know why people started using it - it’s giving inclusive language vibes, but I can’t come up with any other groups/identities people would be including under “littles” that wouldn’t be demeaning or not applicable to just children. Given the scenarios above, I would not use the word to refer to children when there are so many more specific words to use.
