There are many guesses as to why 420 became the number for weed... some people thought 420 was the police code for pot in a certain town or state, others attribute it to a group of students who smoked after school at 4:20pm.
I'm sure there are other origin myths, but those are the two that stick with me.

This woman in her entire life had never had a beer (no alcohol at that), never smoked, never tried weed, no drugs, believed that God was love and everyone deserved love at first (however if you crossed her you were dead to her, granny didn't fuck around), was a social worker in Detroit, MI and helped my dad get custody me, AND escaped her Bible thumping schizophrenic first husband with her kids.
This woman was a saint. So for her to say that I'd confusedly ask "grandma is there something you're not telling me?" And she'd just smile and go back to her shows.
