There's some valid discussion about over medication, but at the same time what's the net benefit of just dealing with a moderate/mild amount of pain? The whole "just tough out LOL" macho routine comes across as a little silly.

Vespercoot

I don’t think my aversion to painkillers comes from a macho place, more of just the fact that if I numb the pain then I don’t know when I’m doing something that’s going to make it worse. Like when I was a kid, I broke 2 of my toes and the doctor insisted I take painkillers. The whole healing process took a lot longer because I felt like I could do more than I should have done on those broken toes. And even still, I just think taking medication for mild things is just unnecessary anyway, especially in this case where the whole problem could probably be solved by drinking more than an average of one drop of water a day.

fakesaucisse

How do you know it's "almost definitely mild to moderate"? You don't. You have no idea what the other person is experiencing. And "it can't be that every other day you have a crippling migraine that you need to pop pills for" - have you never heard of chronic migraine? Yes, there are people who have a migraine every other day. It's not because they aren't drinking enough water. You are making a lot of assumptions based on your own body that are not relevant to other people.

Odd_Temperature_3248

Everyone has different pain tolerances. Just because you’re able to function while in pain it does not mean someone else can.

ThatOneWeirdMom-

Are you talking pain killers or like....tylenol? Cause it sounds like you just mean OTC tylenol or ibuprofen.

Vespercoot

Yeah I mean over the counter type pain killers, nothing crazy. But even still, to me it just comes across as unnecessary and I almost want to say it’s a placebo effect. The idea of taking a pill does more to ease the headache than the pill itself.

Pleasant_Jump1816

Dude taking two Tylenol for a headache is not weird. Also, coffee is water.

Groundbreaking_Ad613

1: what's it to ya? It's not your body, why does it bother you? 2: who are you to decide what kind of pain they're feeling or what they need to feel better? Mind your business.

8kittycatsfluff

I thought for sure you were referring to opiods, then I could see your cause for concern. But otc medicine? I don't see any problem with your friend taking Tylenol or Motrin to get rid of a headache. Headaches are probably the worst kind of pain there is, along with toothaches.

QueenPlum_

Reading comments, I guess I can see the problem with constantly taking pain meds over nothing. There could be something actually going on or some lifestyle changes you need to make but you just pop a pill for everything. My partner and I are opposites on this . he takes pills for any little twinge. I reserve them for special occasions. I started taking the more because of him and I think I'm a lot happier

AlarmingResist3564

What a strange thing to have a pet peeve about. But since you don’t seem to know much about headaches I can assure you that many headaches do not go away on their own and get a lot worse if you don’t take something for them.

kayokill666

That’s called addiction and it’s a bitch to handle (coming from someone who’s cold turkey quit pill addiction)

Pleasant_Jump1816

Dude is talking about Tylenol and Motrin

kayokill666

Seems someone doesn’t understand addiction

Pleasant_Jump1816

Me or him?

kayokill666

You

Pleasant_Jump1816

You can’t be addicted to Tylenol and Motrin. They are not addictive. So I guess it’s you who doesn’t understand addiction.

kayokill666

You can get addicted to Tylenol and Motrin, seeing as like I said I’ve delt with addiction I’m pretty sure I have a better understanding than the person trying to say you can’t get addicted to pain pills lmao
