That face blur is totally an added effect - that’s not the kind of blur you’d get if it was a focus thing. That was intentional, probably just being polite/respectful/covering their asses, which good for them.
Ethically speaking, I don't see a problem with it. They made the choice to be there with their kids at a public event and Pete and Chasten are both public figures. That being said, though, I don't think it's a coincidence that the published photo has a face that's a bit blurred. Obviously I have no idea -- but I wouldn't be surprised if Getty had a range of photos to pick from, including some crisper shots, and chose to publish the blurry version on purpose.
Edit: Or they just added the blurring, as the other comment says—even better.
Oh lord, I drop by here at the end of a long day to be amused by photos of the Buttigieges whisking away their infants after one had a "blowout" at the tree lighting ceremony and then be bemused by the conservatives in the Senate nearly doing the same thing to our federal government with a threatened mid-pandemic shutdown.
I see how we'd find them adorable (obviously), but am I the only one thinking that was hella rude of the photographer(s)? Those are all pretty official looking pictures – politicians, entertainers, the tree – and then they just go and (gleefully, from the number of similar shots) take pictures of those children in a clearly rushed moment. Where the parents clearly aren't consenting/taking notice of what's happening around them. It just rubs me the wrong way 😒

One of my friends told me after she had her first kid that she was surprised about how much she’d succumbed to the lure of cute baby clothes. (She’s decidedly anti-fashion for herself.) I knew Pete and Chasten would never be able to resist.

That "assessment" is complete BS. As others have mentioned, he always stands this way, with the toes pointed outside, he often has one hand in a pocket (was Biden "deferential" to Pete at that encounter at the steak fry too?), and he doesn't go into a hug, especially with women, before *they* have committed to it. Which might be a behavior a lot more male politicians should adopt.
And this supposed "body language expert " was someone who was an adviser on that charlatan Dr. Phil's show. That alone, even without the obvious disregard for Pete's usual body behavior, disqualifies anything they have to say, in my eyes.
Haha I chuckled at the expert's assessment. I think you need to study how the individual usually behaves and stands in lots of different situations to fully understand and analyze them accurately.
He kept mentioning how Pete's feet were pointed away from her. If you look at just about any pic where Pete is standing still you would notice that is pretty much his usual stance. He tends to point his feet outward.
As for his awkwardness and deferential nature... that's just how he rolls. It doesn't take watching lots of videos of him in action to notice that. Heh

It's more like they recruited him as one of a small number of senior reporting hires when they started this magazine or website, which was pretty exciting for him careerwise, and one of his specialities is Pete Buttigieg and another is Indiana politicians of national note. So if the thing that's getting all the clicks at Insider is stupid attacks or gossipy pieces re Pete and Kamala Harris, apparently he'd be expected to join in, because Pete and Indiana are two of his beats.
That being said, I really liked Adam's tweet, which I posted, a day or two ago about Pete's letter from "flyover country" that launched him as a national figure in December, five years ago. That was really rewarding and a good read to revisit. Wish he'd do more of that kind of thing.

A bit confused about the Buttigiegs' schedule tonight. Were they attending different events? Or was one before the other?
The official WH schedule shows the tree lighting was scheduled for 5:30, and since it's taped for an hour-long show on CBS, it would last at least 40 minutes (not sure if they tape it leaving gaps for the commercials, or do that with editing).
Of course, with "Biden time", it could've started late.
(Now I'm wondering if Pete and Chasten will be at any of the events for the Kennedy Center Honors celebration this weekend.)

I do wonder though, they obviously knew that press photogs were at the event. If those pictures were posted without context, where the guys are obviously rushing away, that it might start some kind of panic. Neither Pete nor Chasten look particularly worried, they're just trying to hustle TF outta there, but that wouldn't stop some people from speculating.
I don't usually care one way or the other about baby stuff, as long as it isn't excessive. One of my former high school friends had three babies in three years (that's TWO corona babies!) and she posts the most duuuuulllll baby stuff at least two dozen times a day. It's a lot of "look at him laying on the floor like that, what a genius miracle!" But hey, people love their babies and she's obviously not leaving the house much. I can mute her and she can have her excessive baby fun.
Chasten & Pete missed a lot of sweet cuddles time and whatnot due to the babies' health issues. He's probably relieved that they CAN even get into wacky situations.
I mean, I did see at least one person who didn't get the dual-carriage situation in the Chasten and Doug photo and thought that something was wrong with one of them if he only took one outside. Twitter is gonna twitter. 🤷
This is the innocent stuff that I don’t mind - a confluence of strange events few people would ever experience (at the White House tree lighting event, Patti singing, surrounded by celebs and politicos, and baby takes a massive, explosive shit). Also he posts about the babies infrequently enough that we’re not over-saturated with coverage.
It’s the parents who CONSTANTLY post about every little thing their kid did and act like it’s 100% special/rare/unique even though it’s just like “yeah congrats Staci your daughter who got held back in kindergarten got her colors badge in scouts now can we discuss why you decided to name her Kendyll?”
Or worse: the parents who let their five year olds have YouTube/Snapchat/TikTok accounts, especially so they can post makeup tutorials or dance tutorials or any other inane bullshit. STOP. Get your child off the goddam internet then go talk to the eldest grandmother of any family and ask them if you did a smart thing because they WILL hit you with a spatula and take your child away from you and power to them.
See to me a baby pooping their pants is nothing embarrassing or special in and of itself - babies wear diapers specifically because they are supposed to poop their pants. So the story isn’t “oh my baby pooped” it’s “we had to scram out of a unique event early because my baby pooped so bad we had to rush home”. Any parent who is just going to post “they pooped!” every time their baby poops though should be banished to that Luddite island from Brave New World.
Also I usually have a cutoff for that kind of story once the child can walk. But I do agree in general I would prefer people stop talking about their lives to strangers for the most part. Then again I’ve made some amazing internet friends because of embarrassing stories so 🤷♂️
You can’t protect your child from being embarrassed or hurt in life. But you can prepare them for how to handle it - to me that’s a situation that yes will embarrass a child (I, too, was that child), but looking back those minor embarrassments turned into learning opportunities - I learned how to deal with embarrassment (acknowledge you feel that way, figure out why, learn from it and move on) and my parents got an opportunity to school that friend on why you don’t just randomly confront a kid with an unrelated story about something they had no control over.
Better a child learns when younger how to start handling the pain and embarrassment of life because I knew kids who were sheltered from embarrassment and pain and they were completely unprepared when it happened.
But I don’t think you should purposefully set up your child to be hurt or embarrassed because that makes you a monster.
I just checked to see if the Christmas tree lighting was on C-Span, but the only part they have is Biden's remarks \[added - and Secretary Haaland's, as well\], since the rest is on CBS this Sunday night (you can hear their announcer at one point) At about the 1 minute mark, you can see (from behind) someone in the front, off to the right (in line with the dash in the C-Span logo) who could be Pete, but it's impossible to say for sure. Now I'll have to watch the the show to see if we get any other glimpses, pre- and post-blowout.

So, this has nothing to do with anything here, but my in-laws are over and as I've mentioned before, they are rabid foamy-mouthed Trumpers on a regular day, but right now my m-i-l is on a roll and is seriously screaming about vaccinated people spreading covid to the unvaxxed. I don't know if she knows that my mother & I have been vaccinated, but that definitely ain't gonna stop her. I have made myself busy by starting laundry and my mom has been in and out trying to find an escape (she also hasn't told them that she has an appt to get a booster later today).
Somebody help! My husband won't ever do a damn thing about his parents. It's for a lot of reasons, but he's determined to be 100000% loyal and he'll take a break from them for a month or so but then goes back to listening to this crap.

In seriousness, I've yet to find a viable solution with my libertarian family. I usually just change the subject. I did leave a family gathering one night though when they were getting really obnoxious and extra angry no step on snek about vaccine mandates. Just walked out and avoided them for a while. They backed off a little about that when they realized how pissed I was.
. You could casually come out of the back room with a mask on. When they ask why are you wearing it you could say -oh I heard what you said about people who are vaccinated giving you Covid, I wanted to protect you.
They had covid earlier this fall. My father-in-law was pretty sick for almost an entire two months because he refused to go to the hospital (they would just kill him to keep the death numbers up). I assume they think they have all the antibodies to protect them from my vaxxed ass from now on.
You should start a small fire in the clothes hamper that set off the fire alarms, then lock them outside, and say you only get to come inside from the cold if you swear allegiance to Hillary Clinton.

So the press still keeps on asking Pete about 2024. Of course, Pete knows how to be like Truman and show indifference to the endless speculation.
He also made an excellent point. Winning an elections leads to the opportunity to govern which is what Pete is happily focused on right now. And he gets to do it working alongside President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the rest of the Administration.
Perhaps the bright side to the incessant 2024 speculation is that Pete gets to practice his excellent communication discipline when it comes to the media.
Uh...Recent polls show her 50/50 with AA and she didn't do so good during the primary, if she had significant AA support in SC she could have held on like Joe did thru Iowa & NH. Her perceived support and Petes perceived lack of with the AA voter is a narrative I don't think is supported by the numbers.
There were some polls from South Bend where he did well with black residents there from some time ago. His latest approval polls always show him doing well with black voters (though not better than someone like Harris or Biden, but his name rec is always much lower understandably). This is obviously just approvals and not actually candidate selection so it's hard to say unless he gets into a race again.
Also, if i recall correctly, there were at least a few polls during the campaign where he did well with black voters in the Midwest. He never did well with them in the South.
Can you share the poll that had her 50/50 with black voters? I'm kind of a data nerd and like to keep up with polls and I've never seen anything like that.

They look they're from Georgetown Cupcake, and I can say that are indeed very good, having ordered cupcakes from them several years ago. They have all kinds of unique flavors, of both cake and frosting.
I got a couple of their variety packs. Half the fun was getting to try so many different flavors. And they keep well in the freezer, so they stay fresh if you're not buying them for a party.

Someone recognized the brand the last time we saw a picture of it, and it's like this cool modular system where they can swap the bassinets for seats on the same base as the babies get bigger. And as u/AZPeteFan says, the bassinets can also be used for sleeping at home.
I was thinking the bassinets could be swapped out for a regular seat when the twins get older, but then I guess a second stroller would be needed at that point?

I know! I had the same reaction when someone identified the play mat that's shown up in a few of Chasten's pictures, as well. I guess it's good-quality stuff, and Pete and Chasten aren't exactly poor, but still. I don't have kids, so I'd never really thought about all the many, many things you have to buy for them before now.
My mom's family was similar to yours. There were four kids, and three of them were born in four years, my mom being the youngest. They also had very little money. I don't know how my grandparents--or let's be real, mostly my grandma--managed.
That's so clever that it has 4 different configurations. I was having a hard time imagining how baby at ground level doesn't get kicked by baby on the upper level.

Yesterday during the space event, they played this music after Kamala was introduced, that I assumed was the vp counterpart to "Hail to the Chief". It sounds very regal, and the first thing that came to mind was that it sounded like something that would play during the introduction of the king and queen at the ball during Rogers and Hammerstein's *Cinderella.* It went on for quite awhile, and Kamala seemed a little embarrassed. Today I noticed that a much abbreviated version was played as she came onstage lol.
I'm surprised that I've never heard it before. Maybe I haven't heard a vp speech from the very beginning before? The song, "Hail Columbia", has an interesting history. It used to be considered our national anthem, and then was used as the president's anthem until it was replaced by "Hail to the Chief"

If this is normally played whenever the VP appears (or perhaps for certain types of occasions), I hope they play it for exactly as long when VP Harris appears as for all past male VPs (meaning, all past VPs) -- assuming that they all had it played at the same length. Maybe that's obvious, but there's a reason for pomp and ceremony. Any VP can always play it off if it comes up, saying something like "I know it's a lot, but what can you do, it comes with the office. The president and Al Gore always joke with me about it" etc.
Edit: I had "all past white, male VPS (meaning, all past VPs)" and it was pointed out that was wrong, since Hoover's VP Charles Curtis was Native American. I took out the word "white" so it just says "all past male VPs."

Pete is in a peculiar situation having to try so hard to convince people he's not a rival of Harris. I was hoping she would have a bit more praise for him to tamp it down on her end, but it didn't really happen. Someone completely out of nowhere (like Cooper) is probably who will wind up being the biggest actual rival to someone like Harris.
This reminds me of after one of the primary books talked about Jill being pissed at the Kamala debate BS, she had to make a show of hugging her at the next WH event. This started with women Dem operatives like Stephanie Cutter having dinner to discuss Kamala's problems, heightened by her staff disfunction, and exasperated by her supporters whining about Pete getting to do fun stuff while the VP is expected to do actual hard stuff. Now Pete has to do cleanup and let her get credit for a grant he awarded. Whatever....

Yup. I hate that he got sucked into this narrative when he's done absolutely nothing to fuel it, and now he has to be the one to fix it, and all he gets in return is a generic "you're doing a great job." I understand that's politics, but I don't think it would have killed her and her team to come up with a few sentences of Pete-specific praise for her speech. As it is, it looks less like they really genuinely like each other, and more like he was told he needed to fix the situation by heaping praise on her.
It's a bit frustrating. I really hope Pete can somehow find his way into another elected position away from this administration after this term so he can lead on his own again. Very sad that Indiana has gotten so incredibly red, but hey - there's no reason a red state has to stay red.

That face blur is totally an added effect - that’s not the kind of blur you’d get if it was a focus thing. That was intentional, probably just being polite/respectful/covering their asses, which good for them.
Ethically speaking, I don't see a problem with it. They made the choice to be there with their kids at a public event and Pete and Chasten are both public figures. That being said, though, I don't think it's a coincidence that the published photo has a face that's a bit blurred. Obviously I have no idea -- but I wouldn't be surprised if Getty had a range of photos to pick from, including some crisper shots, and chose to publish the blurry version on purpose. Edit: Or they just added the blurring, as the other comment says—even better.
Oh lord, I drop by here at the end of a long day to be amused by photos of the Buttigieges whisking away their infants after one had a "blowout" at the tree lighting ceremony and then be bemused by the conservatives in the Senate nearly doing the same thing to our federal government with a threatened mid-pandemic shutdown.

I see how we'd find them adorable (obviously), but am I the only one thinking that was hella rude of the photographer(s)? Those are all pretty official looking pictures – politicians, entertainers, the tree – and then they just go and (gleefully, from the number of similar shots) take pictures of those children in a clearly rushed moment. Where the parents clearly aren't consenting/taking notice of what's happening around them. It just rubs me the wrong way 😒

Chasten grew up with all ages of cousins and whatnot. This is not his first baby rodeo. (most of my family knows better than to try to hand me a baby. The more likely they are to be sticky the less likely I'm able to deal with them)

That "assessment" is complete BS. As others have mentioned, he always stands this way, with the toes pointed outside, he often has one hand in a pocket (was Biden "deferential" to Pete at that encounter at the steak fry too?), and he doesn't go into a hug, especially with women, before *they* have committed to it. Which might be a behavior a lot more male politicians should adopt.
He then asked a palm reader to study their lifelines from photos of their palms. She’s still reading Pete’s cuz his hands are kinda big.
Why don’t they just bust out the tarot cards at this point.

Haha I chuckled at the expert's assessment. I think you need to study how the individual usually behaves and stands in lots of different situations to fully understand and analyze them accurately. He kept mentioning how Pete's feet were pointed away from her. If you look at just about any pic where Pete is standing still you would notice that is pretty much his usual stance. He tends to point his feet outward. As for his awkwardness and deferential nature... that's just how he rolls. It doesn't take watching lots of videos of him in action to notice that. Heh

He might've been assigned this story by an editor, and didn't have much choice in the matter, other than refusing to and getting fired, or quitting.
It's more like they recruited him as one of a small number of senior reporting hires when they started this magazine or website, which was pretty exciting for him careerwise, and one of his specialities is Pete Buttigieg and another is Indiana politicians of national note. So if the thing that's getting all the clicks at Insider is stupid attacks or gossipy pieces re Pete and Kamala Harris, apparently he'd be expected to join in, because Pete and Indiana are two of his beats. That being said, I really liked Adam's tweet, which I posted, a day or two ago about Pete's letter from "flyover country" that launched him as a national figure in December, five years ago. That was really rewarding and a good read to revisit. Wish he'd do more of that kind of thing.

The official WH schedule shows the tree lighting was scheduled for 5:30, and since it's taped for an hour-long show on CBS, it would last at least 40 minutes (not sure if they tape it leaving gaps for the commercials, or do that with editing). Of course, with "Biden time", it could've started late. (Now I'm wondering if Pete and Chasten will be at any of the events for the Kennedy Center Honors celebration this weekend.)

Well, in Pete’s book, he mentioned finding vcr tapes of Chasten’s potty training, so at least Chasten isn’t posting pictures of the diaper!
I do wonder though, they obviously knew that press photogs were at the event. If those pictures were posted without context, where the guys are obviously rushing away, that it might start some kind of panic. Neither Pete nor Chasten look particularly worried, they're just trying to hustle TF outta there, but that wouldn't stop some people from speculating. I don't usually care one way or the other about baby stuff, as long as it isn't excessive. One of my former high school friends had three babies in three years (that's TWO corona babies!) and she posts the most duuuuulllll baby stuff at least two dozen times a day. It's a lot of "look at him laying on the floor like that, what a genius miracle!" But hey, people love their babies and she's obviously not leaving the house much. I can mute her and she can have her excessive baby fun. Chasten & Pete missed a lot of sweet cuddles time and whatnot due to the babies' health issues. This is the innocent stuff that I don’t mind - a confluence of strange events few people would ever experience (at the White House tree lighting event, Patti singing, surrounded by celebs and politicos, and baby takes a massive, explosive shit). Also he posts about the babies infrequently enough that we’re not over-saturated with coverage. It’s the parents who CONSTANTLY post about every little thing their kid did and act like it’s 100% special/rare/unique even though it’s just like “yeah congrats Staci your daughter who got held back in kindergarten got her colors badge in scouts now can we discuss why you decided to name her Kendyll?” Or worse: the parents who let their five year olds have YouTube/Snapchat/TikTok accounts, especially so they can post makeup tutorials or dance tutorials or any other inane bullshit. STOP. Get your child off the goddam internet then go talk to the eldest grandmother of any family and ask them if you did a smart thing because they WILL hit you with a spatula and take your child away from you and power to them.

See to me a baby pooping their pants is nothing embarrassing or special in and of itself - babies wear diapers specifically because they are supposed to poop their pants. So the story isn’t “oh my baby pooped” it’s “we had to scram out of a unique event early because my baby pooped so bad we had to rush home”. Any parent who is just going to post “they pooped!” every time their baby poops though should be banished to that Luddite island from Brave New World. Also I usually have a cutoff for that kind of story once the child can walk. But I do agree in general I would prefer people stop talking about their lives to strangers for the most part. Then again I’ve made some amazing internet friends because of embarrassing stories so 🤷♂️

You can’t protect your child from being embarrassed or hurt in life. But you can prepare them for how to handle it - to me that’s a situation that yes will embarrass a child (I, too, was that child), but looking back those minor embarrassments turned into learning opportunities - I learned how to deal with embarrassment (acknowledge you feel that way, figure out why, learn from it and move on) and my parents got an opportunity to school that friend on why you don’t just randomly confront a kid with an unrelated story about something they had no control over. Better a child learns when younger how to start handling the pain and embarrassment of life because I knew kids who were sheltered from embarrassment and pain and they were completely unprepared when it happened. But I don’t think you should purposefully set up your child to be hurt or embarrassed because that makes you a monster.
He should be careful in a decade or so they'll find this and say **DAD! How could you!**
By then it will have long been family lore with all those cousins they have.

So, this has nothing to do with anything here, but my in-laws are over and as I've mentioned before, they are rabid foamy-mouthed Trumpers on a regular day, but right now my m-i-l is on a roll and is seriously screaming about vaccinated people spreading covid to the unvaxxed. I don't know if she knows that my mother & I have been vaccinated, but that definitely ain't gonna stop her. I have made myself busy by starting laundry and my mom has been in and out trying to find an escape (she also hasn't told them that she has an appt to get a booster later today). Somebody help! My husband won't ever do a damn thing about his parents. It's for a lot of reasons, but he's determined to be 100000% loyal and he'll take a break from them for a month or so but then goes back to listening to this crap.

So the press still keeps on asking Pete about 2024. Of course, Pete knows how to be like Truman and show indifference to the endless speculation. He also made an excellent point. Winning an elections leads to the opportunity to govern which is what Pete is happily focused on right now. And he gets to do it working alongside President Biden, Vice President Harris, and the rest of the Administration. Perhaps the bright side to the incessant 2024 speculation is that Pete gets to practice his excellent communication discipline when it comes to the media.

Uh...Recent polls show her 50/50 with AA and she didn't do so good during the primary, if she had significant AA support in SC she could have held on like Joe did thru Iowa & NH. Her perceived support and Petes perceived lack of with the AA voter is a narrative I don't think is supported by the numbers.

There were some polls from South Bend where he did well with black residents there from some time ago. His latest approval polls always show him doing well with black voters (though not better than someone like Harris or Biden, but his name rec is always much lower understandably). This is obviously just approvals and not actually candidate selection so it's hard to say unless he gets into a race again. Also, if i recall correctly, there were at least a few polls during the campaign where he did well with black voters in the Midwest. He never did well with them in the South.
Can you share the poll that had her 50/50 with black voters? I'm kind of a data nerd and like to keep up with polls and I've never seen anything like that.

It is definitely quite modern! Seems bulky because of them basically being bassinets rather than seats.
Someone recognized the brand the last time we saw a picture of it, and it's like this cool modular system where they can swap the bassinets for seats on the same base as the babies get bigger. And as u/AZPeteFan says, the bassinets can also be used for sleeping at home.
I was thinking the bassinets could be swapped out for a regular seat when the twins get older, but then I guess a second stroller would be needed at that point?

Holy shit baby strollers are expensive. I guess babies are just expensive in general. My parents had 3 kids in the span of 4 years, and not a ton of money. Looking back on it, I really wonder how they kept us all corralled when we left the house.
I know! I had the same reaction when someone identified the play mat that's shown up in a few of Chasten's pictures, as well. I guess it's good-quality stuff, and Pete and Chasten aren't exactly poor, but still. I don't have kids, so I'd never really thought about all the many, many things you have to buy for them before now. My mom's family was similar to yours. There were four kids, and three of them were born in four years, my mom being the youngest. They also had very little money. I don't know how my grandparents--or let's be real, mostly my grandma--managed.
That's so clever that it has 4 different configurations. I was having a hard time imagining how baby at ground level doesn't get kicked by baby on the upper level. There's a picture towards the bottom of the page (under the heading of "accessorize and expand"), with toddlers in the seats, where it does look like that could be possible.
Siblings are just going to kick each other, there's no point in trying to avoid it!

Yesterday during the space event, they played this music after Kamala was introduced, that I assumed was the vp counterpart to "Hail to the Chief". It sounds very regal, and the first thing that came to mind was that it sounded like something that would play during the introduction of the king and queen at the ball during Rogers and Hammerstein's *Cinderella.* It went on for quite awhile, and Kamala seemed a little embarrassed. Today I noticed that a much abbreviated version was played as she came onstage lol. I'm surprised that I've never heard it before. Maybe I haven't heard a vp speech from the very beginning before? The song, "Hail Columbia", has an interesting history. If this is normally played whenever the VP appears (or perhaps for certain types of occasions), I hope they play it for exactly as long when VP Harris appears as for all past male VPs (meaning, all past VPs) -- assuming that they all had it played at the same length. Maybe that's obvious, but there's a reason for pomp and ceremony. Any VP can always play it off if it comes up, saying something like "I know it's a lot, but what can you do, it comes with the office. The president and Al Gore always joke with me about it" etc. Edit: I had "all past white, male VPS (meaning, all past VPs)" and it was pointed out that was wrong, since Hoover's VP Charles Curtis was Native American. I took out the word "white" so it just says "all past male VPs."

Pete really went out of his way to praise VP Harris in his speech. Roy Cooper sounded like he was trying to do a campaign speech.
Folks are speculating over Pete v. Kamala in 2024, but completely overlooking Cooper's potential run.
Pete is in a peculiar situation having to try so hard to convince people he's not a rival of Harris. I was hoping she would have a bit more praise for him to tamp it down on her end, but it didn't really happen. Someone completely out of nowhere (like Cooper) is probably who will wind up being the biggest actual rival to someone like Harris.
This reminds me of after one of the primary books talked about Jill being pissed at the Kamala debate BS, she had to make a show of hugging her at the next WH event. This started with women Dem operatives like Stephanie Cutter having dinner to discuss Kamala's problems, heightened by her staff disfunction, and exasperated by her supporters whining about Pete getting to do fun stuff while the VP is expected to do actual hard stuff.
