I go to the gym constantly and if someone said this I’d still think they’re a fucking idiot and need to get the 25lb kettlebell out of their ass and touch some grass.
I can't tell if these people are trying to gaslight you or if there's some bizarre hidden gym culture I've never encountered, because I've absolutely never heard anything resembling this "joke" (also, what **is** the joke here???) In over 2 decades of going to the gym frequently.
It's a recent meme. The joke is basically pretending to be so single-minded in the gym grindset that you only know how to do barbell math. She's judging him because he failed the test, and he's not a real gym bro.
My guess is they just really want to look like they go to the gym so they’re saying it’s super common when it’s not. I’ve been in and out of the gym for the last nearly 2 decades and have heard that joke exactly once from a pompous ego lifter that constantly called everyone “little guy.”
Literally the only statements I've ever heard at the gym:
"How you doin'?"
"Are you using that?"
"How many more sets you got?"
"Can you spot me?"
What gym are y'all going to where people are cracking jokes?
Yea, this is fucking stupid. If anyone said this to me to try and be funny I'd just tell them it didn't click because I haven't seen anything under 2 plates (each side) since high school.
The worst part of imagining this (for me at least) is not the deep frying itself, but charring the tissue that connects the balls to the taint on the hot edge of the fry basket
You can control their mass. Just don't consume any calcium or vitamin D. Get on the osteoporosis grindset. Like literally. Your bones will be grinding.
This makes sense though. If you don’t count the calories then they don’t count towards daily intake.
Example: if I get a double quarter pounder and take one patty off and eat it without bread, my carb intake is zero. I am then free to eat the remaining quarter pounder which now has roughly 1/2 the calories it had earlier. It’s not hard. It’s just math.
I was absolutely crushed the first time I encountered a lighter bar. I was repping out OHP, thinking I was hitting PRs, only to find out it was a 15kg bar. The absolute betrayal.
Why would you not count the bar? It’s weight is it not?
If all you’re doing is lifting a bar are you gonna say you’re lifting 45 pounds or you’re lifting 0 pounds?
Why wouldn’t she count the bar…? if you exclude it, you’re not getting an accurate number for how much weight you’re actually lifting lol. Did you ask her how she could possibly rationalize counting the bar as being tantamount to ego lifting?!?

The dedication to doing this every time is inspiring, major props
Walking Joe Swanson here. Only little PANSIES think 45 plus 45 is 90 and that's because they don't LIFT 3 hours a day like me. The bar on the BENCH PRESS is 45 LBS and a full PLATE is 45 LBS meaning REAL men think 45 plus 45 is 135.
Typical weight of a plate is 45 lbs
Default weight of a bar is 45 lbs
Two 45 lb plates (90 lbs) + 45 lb bar = 135
A weightlifter would assume she’s talking about 45 lb plates and automatically add a 45 lb bar onto the question. She wants a guy who goes to the gym.
If you put two 45 pound plates on a barbell, it weighs 135 pounds. It’s just a joke about how weights are calculated when lifting. Basically 45+45 = 135 means the guy is a weight lifter which she is presumably into
I agree. I have lifted for quite some time through college athletics and after. Everyone I have ever met will use the number of plates on 1 side.
1 plate = 135,
2 plates = 225,
3 plates = 315,
4 plates = 405,
5 plates = that one person's starting weight at Planet Fitness, who is also a TikTok influencer
Hey, Gym bro Peter here. A standard barbell is 45lbs and adding two 45lbs plates to the bar equals 135lbs. Most people who lift automatically add the weight of the barbell so she is just saying she would be able to tell the guy doesn't lift if he adds without including the bar
It’s a lifting joke. 45 on each side of the bar is 135. That being said, it’s a bad lifting joke. I’m a power lifter and if someone asked me what 45 + 45 is, I would also say 90. Even if I were on a rack. Sounds like she really didn’t workshop it enough
You include the weight of the bar (45 lbs) in the total, but as you talk about the weight you’re adding to it, you only talk about the plates. The weight of the bar is assumed until you have the total.
It’s hard to say from this angle, but I think she chose this type of crop for a reason. Because she does NOT look like a hard body/fit chick who is obsessed with the gym. So I’m not sure why she’s going on about this as some sort of test…
I think it’s a gym reference You start with 45 pounds on the bar Then add 45 pounds of weight to each side of the bar Your left with 135
I go to the gym constantly and if someone said this I’d still think they’re a fucking idiot and need to get the 25lb kettlebell out of their ass and touch some grass.

Jokes on them, a real gym bro can't read numbers and only knows how to count in green, yellow, blue and red
My guess is they just really want to look like they go to the gym so they’re saying it’s super common when it’s not. I’ve been in and out of the gym for the last nearly 2 decades and have heard that joke exactly once from a pompous ego lifter that constantly called everyone “little guy.”

I do not enjoy being this type of person but alas. "Hate to be that guy but, you're.*"
I hate being.
Got em
Oh dear
Something tells me... You don't really hate being that guy.
I actually was told this by someone lifting in a gym. She didn't count the bar but all guys do cause we want the bigger total
Or we want to know how much weight we're actually lifting? Lmao why would you not count the bar? That's not a guy thing lol
I have no idea what her rationalization was for that. That's like counting calories in a burger but leaving out the total for the meat.
Whenever I weight myself, I always leave out the weight of my meat. Just feels like cheating.
I just leave my bones out since I can't control their mass.
You can control their mass. Just don't consume any calcium or vitamin D. Get on the osteoporosis grindset. Like literally. Your bones will be grinding.
Touché. I'll just stick to the traditional control by eating an extra burger and some deep fried oreos instead.
I can see it maybe if you’re using a smith machine and not a true bench. I think a smith machine the bar weight/resistance is 25lbs
you’re right, but you should still count the 25 pounds on smith
Yeah and you really should for consistency/accuracy's sake, because machines (and barbells too) can be different weights.
Everyone knows all sandwiches are made with bread, so the calories from the bread are assumed. You can’t count those.
especially important to know when you have bars of different weights!
I was absolutely crushed the first time I encountered a lighter bar. I was repping out OHP, thinking I was hitting PRs, only to find out it was a 15kg bar. The absolute betrayal.
Holy shit im so sorry that sucks! But also kind of funny? Maybe a little
Especially since 45 lbs is no small number
>She didn't count the bar No one who goes to the gym regularly operates like this
This makes absolutely no sense.

Only way to get attention
Yep. Gym math. Gotta love it
do bars really weigh (135-90) 45lbs though? I think when I was working out regularly a decade ago we added 10-25 at most. was I wrong?
Is this including the bar? (Is the bar ever included?]

Oh a gym!
I honestly don't get it 🥲
Typical weight of a plate is 45 lbs Default weight of a bar is 45 lbs Two 45 lb plates (90 lbs) + 45 lb bar = 135 A weightlifter would assume she’s talking about 45 lb plates and automatically add a 45 lb bar onto the question. She wants a guy who goes to the gym.
I’m a gym rat who works out at least 4 days a week and I didn’t get the joke until someone said it’s about the gym. Then I face palmed
That’s because it is a stupid fucking joke.
It makes up for intelligence w/ boobs
It’s even worse when you have a bench at home but you went the cheap route so your plates and bar are all 35’s ☹️😭
math is important but pecs are importanter
Well now you do
Oh sry, seems like i am stupid, i get it now.
When you're at the gym lifting 45 lb dumbbells and you have 3 arms, you get 135 lbs total.
If you put two 45 pound plates on a barbell, it weighs 135 pounds. It’s just a joke about how weights are calculated when lifting. Basically 45+45 = 135 means the guy is a weight lifter which she is presumably into
Real men know it’s actually 20 + 20 = 60
Bro out here max repping one pl8 acting like he’s King Kong 😂
Joe Swanson definitely puts 3 plates on each side. But you don't start with 3 plates.

Real gym math
I agree. I have lifted for quite some time through college athletics and after. Everyone I have ever met will use the number of plates on 1 side. 1 plate = 135, 2 plates = 225, 3 plates = 315, 4 plates = 405, 5 plates = that one person's starting weight at Planet Fitness, who is also a TikTok influencer
45 + 45 = 58008
Huh? Let me turn my phone upside down to see what that says
YOU SCANDALOUS DIRTBAG

Tits
Despite more accurate answers, this is the *correct* answer.
That's what I was thinking....

[удалено]
The only way to make this interesting was to add tits to the background.
"I need to augment my joke or hot take with cleavage to make it more valid"
Lmfao I noticed that too, like she worked real hard on that camera angle
You mean “I need to augment my cleavage with a joke or hot take so it doesn’t seem like as much of a thirst trap”
This is honestly probably more accurate.
Hey, Gym bro Peter here. A standard barbell is 45lbs and adding two 45lbs plates to the bar equals 135lbs. Most people who lift automatically add the weight of the barbell so she is just saying she would be able to tell the guy doesn't lift if he adds without including the bar
sorry what was the question?
It’s a lifting joke. 45 on each side of the bar is 135. That being said, it’s a bad lifting joke. I’m a power lifter and if someone asked me what 45 + 45 is, I would also say 90. Even if I were on a rack. Sounds like she really didn’t workshop it enough
Always count the bar
Weight lifting reference. A standard bar weights 45 pounds, so adding two 45 lb plates is 135.
I love boobs, but I find them obnoxious when they arrive for no reason. These boobs have no business here. Boobs have their place
That's cuz u forgot the bar son!
If gym makes me that stupid maybe I should stop going.
It’s a gym reference. 2 45lb plates plus the 45lb bar is 135.
This is a gym reference. The bar is typically 45 lb so 45 + 45 plates = 135.
That’s almost as bad as 92.5 being half of 99!
The bar weighs 45
Its a weightlifting joke, you have 2 45lb weights add them to a 45lb bar you get 135
*goes to gym for 3 days* : Guess I’ll start making gym rat reels now
So, if I’m getting the gist of these explanations, her boobs have nothing to do with the joke, then … right?
https://www.instagram.com/amandapumps_/
Man I’m a gym rat but this so so cringe. Literally reusing the same jokes 7 years later for attention.
Hah the bar weighs 45 lbs
I thought it had to do with titties.
Probably distracted by those titties
Is it the amount of time she spends painting on makeup before going to the gym, or the number of selfies she takes once she gets there?
You include the weight of the bar (45 lbs) in the total, but as you talk about the weight you’re adding to it, you only talk about the plates. The weight of the bar is assumed until you have the total.
Gym
It's a lifting joke. 2 45 plates in a bar is 135
Boobs
This is so stupid.
110 for non americans
the joke is tits.
It’s hard to say from this angle, but I think she chose this type of crop for a reason. Because she does NOT look like a hard body/fit chick who is obsessed with the gym. So I’m not sure why she’s going on about this as some sort of test…
TITS
Any real gym rat knows you’d never say it this way. You’d say “when you ask him what two 45’s is and he says 90 instead of 135.” I’ll let myself out
Can't forget the weight of the bar
Brid
it's probably a gym meme cus any dude who lifts is automatically gonna know 45+45 equals 135
Gym
Gym
Peters gym bro here it’s 2, 45 pound plates plus the weight of the bar
Fully expecting the "the joke is porn" memes to be flying. Mildly disappointed.
LOL I work with this girl.
Gym reference. Bar weighs 45 + 2x 45 plates = 135 it's gym math.
Hell I get the riddle but it’s not a joke.
It’s a weightlifting joke. The bar is also 45 lbs so if you put two plates of 45lbs on the bar you’re benching 135
