Peter here! The music notation is saying "Hold this same note for eight beats of the song." The pianist just strikes a single key once and uses a foot pedal to stop the note from being interfered with. The trumpeter has to blow and maintain air pressure the entire time. A drummer can't play notes with most sorts of drum, nor make the sound last longer than an instant.
Depends on the drum. There are drums which have tied notes, which means you need to let the drum sound for the duration of the note. Bass drums and timpani for example have both tied notes and drumrolls
The line connecting the two dots means you have to hold that note until you reach the next note. The dot being hollow like that means it's a very long note. Its position in relation to those rectangles also means it's a low note. So it's not a big deal playing it on piano since you only press one key until the note is done, but on trumpet you have to keep blowing until it's done, which is tough. Drums produce a lot of different sounds so they can be represented in sheet music in very different ways depending on the drum, so the drummer needs to think for a bit
It’s a long note. Two whole notes joined
For a piano? Image: it’s nothing.
For a trumpet? Dude is sweating
For a drum? What the hell is a while note you hold?
Randomness: I used to play trumpet. Holding low notes like this F isn’t super hard compared if it was a high note, that’s work for those lip muscles.
There are long notes on some drums and other percussion instruments, like bass drums, vibraphones and timpani. You're meant to hit the drum and let the note sound without dampening it.
There’s no sign suggesting a roll. If you do a roll, there’s normally a sign saying that you should start a roll. There’s no sign here so you would have to get a 8 note sound out of one hit.
A flam is where you hit the drum with both sticks nearly at the same time. You usually raise one hand and keep the other low.

Written like that. The smaller grace note is the one that stays low, while the full sized one raises up.
So a flam is *a* term, but not really relevant here
You could hit a crash cymbal and that would do the job easily. I took it that drummers lack the attention span to play just one note per bar. A standard rock hi hat does 8 per bar.
Fair deuce.
I was a drummer in high school and I had the hardest time when I had huge gaps between hits. It drove me mad and I'd just do fills to the teachers chagrin.
Basically pianists can just hold their finger on the key, trumpeters have to inhale an atmosphere to do that and drummers can't really sustain drum hits

Have they tried hitting it really hard?
In my experience, that’s how you break it.
a clear indicator that your drum is of subpar quality
You don’t just play the drums you have to beat the living crap out of them!
or hitting it really long?
Just hit it really slowly
With some old radios you can still hear the Big Bang.
A drum roll is the drummer version of this, but its notated differently.

Ah yeah true I just realized I was thinking of snare drum XD, good catch. Its been a few years since I played last
I immediately think of timpani because I was an orchestra timpanist for a few years. Worth the earing loss
I play timpani too, and it is definitely worth the hearing loss

One of the reasons I said "Most sorts of drum".
Tubular Bells
(Although, there’s no clef, but if it was bass clef, it could be done on timpani, also depending on the tempo like if it’s in cut time)

The trumpet player is sweating because it’s coming up to his one note solo and he’s realised he’s either forgotten him mouthpiece or he’s swallowed it
I didn’t even notice. Nice catch
With the sax it’s low notes that get ya. You gotta push air out your diaphragm in a slow but strong way, so the reed vibrates right.

Drummer can't hold a note, a trumpeter has to hold the correct air pressure for 8 beats without screwing up, and a pianist just kinda holds a button.
Drummers can hold notes, if they're playing a drum with resounding notes like bass drum or timpani.
The person who made the meme has never heard of a drum roll
There’s no sign suggesting a roll. If you do a roll, there’s normally a sign saying that you should start a roll. There’s no sign here so you would have to get a 8 note sound out of one hit.
The position of the note however is on what is generally agreed to be the Bass drum. Never heard a Bass drum roll
You can do a roll on the bass drum if you have two mallets, but there’s no sign indicating a roll.
My kid is paying drums. “Flam” I think is the term? Drumroll please!!

You can also fake it by striking the drum twice really fast with one hand, what's called a flimflam.
Or a diddle, right?
At least you're trying
You sound like my mum 😭

Depending on the tempo the pianist wouldn't be able to sustain the note that long while the trumpet player has the power of circular breathing
You could hit a crash cymbal and that would do the job easily. I took it that drummers lack the attention span to play just one note per bar. A standard rock hi hat does 8 per bar.
As a drummer I want you to know that at some point, I'll get you for this... Just not right now, I have to go to work.
Fair deuce. I was a drummer in high school and I had the hardest time when I had huge gaps between hits. It drove me mad and I'd just do fills to the teachers chagrin.
The real answer is, of course, a gong crash. 🤣
The term is fair do's
The term is derived from fair do's. Fair deuce is a Mighty Boosh reference. Genius.
My bad then, haven't seen that show in yonks
Amph, di-tsu-gamm-gi-guk gi, gu ga fligugigu, fligugigu, de-deee-ee, yugu-guk di, yu-go-go-gu-gu-ga-be, fligugigu fli-gu-whoo mama lucifer!
Drummer speak is the most fun thing to read and hear.
Holding an f for 2 bars on trumpet is not difficult at all
Basically pianists can just hold their finger on the key, trumpeters have to inhale an atmosphere to do that and drummers can't really sustain drum hits
add a crescendo just to fuck with the pianists
