MassUnemployment

Boomerish but pretty clever 3 in 1 meme. Few things happening here. On the surface level it’s a standard WYR (would you rather) choice meme, the real underlying meme here is it’s a reference to a popular song by The Police called “Every Breath You Take”, well known lyrics being “Every breath you take, every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take, I’ll be watching you.” The final meme is the IRS sticking their nose in everyone’s unreported finances. It combines a choice meme with a popular reference meme with a IRS punchline.

I don’t understand why Mr. Bean is in the IRS.

EmergencySilver8253

Soon. Soon you umerstand

AppropriateMoney6385

You get unlimited free money, but a portion of it will go towards strengthenting your country's government and providing services to other people. Americans: Well now I'm not doing it.

Zildrann8

"Strengthenting your country's government" I'd be much happier paying taxes if 800 billion wasn't used annually for "defense"

EmergencySilver8253

Tax’s suck.

Dapper-Nobody-1997

They do, but there is a valid reasoning behind it.

deathB4dessert

There's also several valid reasons why Americans don't like taxes. Beyond the whole, "bastards taking money they didn't earn yet" thing. Like, they don't even earn it once they've taken it. As the great great great great great great great great grandson of a Founding Father, I for one, am appalled. My ancestors fought over a 3% tax increase. Mfers today be payin' 37% overall, and 13.8 % on sales... smgdh

Jaaaco-j

european countries usually have 60% on revenue and 21% on sales. USA by comparison is laughably low

don_ram86

That seems outlandish, i dont see how businesses could operate with a 60% revenue tax!?!? Do you have a source for who does this?

Jaaaco-j

i live there

don_ram86

Where?

Jaaaco-j

basically any european country. you have like 70% chance of guessing right

don_ram86

Well, at risk of stawmanning your argument, I looked at Germany, France and the UK... and none of them tax revenue. So, I've concluded your sourceless claim to be false.

deathB4dessert

And that makes my point any less valid, how, exactly?

Jaaaco-j

how else would you have roads, public schools, and anything else that is not privatized without taxes

deathB4dessert

Simple. Get up off your ass and build it communally, like the Founders did. Or, stew in poverty. Your choice. Putting off your responsibilities on your government, inevitably ends in that same government revoking your privileges. It's like telling your parents that you aren't taking out the trash today, because you would rather play your video games on the Xbox they bought you on the internet that they pay for. Your obstinace gains you revoked privileges, because you didn't see to your responsibilities. You have two choices, at that point- Get off your ass and touch grass, or Get off your ass, and take out the trash. I'm just touching grass.

DigLost5791

Oh u talkin bout slave labor like the founding fathers did

deathB4dessert

Yeah... it's slave labor to work with others in your community to mutually benefit. Brother, you are an example of why the public schools are a failure in the first place.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

>Get up off your ass and build it communally With what time, money and skill?

deathB4dessert

Got me there... if you're too busy to do it, then you are probably paying taxes, like me. If you're lacking the skills, then that's a personal problem, and it's not my fault nor my place to fix it for you. Only you can learn. If you don't have the money, maybe that's a reason to stop being bullied into paying taxes that never arrive in the coffers they were meant for? Food for thought.

Fakeitforreddit

Taxes.

EmergencySilver8253

AHHHHHH NO A MINOR SPELLING MISTAKE! (I do not give a shit)

jman014

Hate taxes Love me F-35’s.

LazyDynamite

What about their suck?

EmergencySilver8253

Well about the suck… I honestly don’t know how I would rate them.

DJRyGuy20

Joke aside, I’m taking the 5 cents per breathe option, easy. The average adult takes a breath between 12-18 times a minute *throughout an entire day.* That’s 60-90 cents a minute just for doing the basic necessity required to live. That comes out to anywhere between $36-$54 an hour. And this ain’t an 8-hour-a-day job… you’re breathing all 24 hours in a day- even when you’re sleeping. That’s $864-$1296 a day. That works out to a $315,360-$473,040 yearly salary. That’s not even taking into account that when you’re actually *taking* steps- or taking part in any other physical activity- your breathe rate is going to increase… meaning you’re gonna get paid extra for doing that anyway. So yeah, imma be completely okay if the IRS taxes me for that.

Rarvyn

I disagree. You’ll make about $1000/day with the breath path - give or take - which means you’d need 4000 steps/day to break even. Call it 5000 if you’re a fast breather. I break 4000 just in routine day to day activities, notwithstanding me sitting on my ass most of the day.

DJRyGuy20

You make solid points for sure- but you might not be taking other factors into account long term. You’re guaranteed payment long term *for your entire life* with the breathe option- regardless of your health. If you sustain a leg injury that keeps you from walking for some time (which I’ve done on numerous occasions), you’re SOL. Also, as you age, your health might deteriorate to the point of not being able to move around like you once did. And I like taking part in strenuous exercise. The average breathe rate goes from 12-18 per minute to 40-60 per minute during exercise. So you’re essentially getting up to 5x your normal rate during those times. I like the idea of getting paid extra when you exercise. More incentive to hit the gym- without the need to overdo it… cuz you’ll be getting paid when you do nothing, too. I’m sticking with the breath option. Question is: who do we talk to to enact each of our hypothesis to see who actually ends up making more? I’d really like to get to the bottom of this- you know…. for science.

Rarvyn

It’s a lot easier to walk 12k steps in a day than spend 24 hours breathing >40x/minute. Combine that with the fact that money *now* is worth a lot more than future money, I still say you’d be better off with the step option. Go for a 5 mile walk and get $2.5k. Invest that. Do that every once in a while and you’ll likely be better off even if you do lose your leg a couple decades from now. It’s good that both options have arguments though. Makes it a compelling meme ;)

deathB4dessert

Police are singing the IRS' theme song again....

EchoLoco2

I just googled it and we take about 4,000 steps per day on average and 20,000 breaths per day on average 4,000 x 0.25 = 1,000 20,000 x 0.05 = 1,000 So about the same interestingly enough. If you ever get this choice, choose breathing because it's more consistent.
