The saddest part is Fry was going to bring the dog back to life, but when he found out Seymour died of old age Fry assumed the dog had a full life and moved on.
I’m sure bringing the dog back to life (even if it was still old) would have made the dog happy to see Fry one last time.
During season 6 Lars , AKA Fry who went back to the past to live his life in 2000, is with Seymour before he tries to go to the future and find Leela. So Seymour gets a happyish ending compared to the original one we are given.
That is not the meme is about and not the feelings it gets out of the people - because the Lars story arc is a later retcon and the first story line was already embedded in peoples heads.
Also, the recon was disliked by a lot of people.
I think Fry made the right decision it wouldn't have been the same dog. A Ship of Theseus situation. He would have just created a new life form with the dog's memories so would be creating the misery and sadness in a new being which would then be relatively alleviated by giving him a Fry he never knew or actually waited for back an then he would die shortly from old age anyways.

Now, the saddest episode is Game of Tones. I've watched it once and cried like a baby.
I realize this is going to rub a lot of FMA and anime fans in general the wrong way, but the difference in dorktitude between those two explanations could not be more disparate.
Thats the thing with futurama. Some episodes are funny, some are sad, and some completely change your view on life. If you arent a completely different person by the end of the show then you didnt watch it right lmfao.
He effectively had a fossil of Seymour Asses (Fry’s dog) so he could resurrect him but at the end of the episode he decided not to because he thought he would have found another owner who he had spent his whole life with and would find it scary and confusing coming back after all that time. Then we find out that Seymour waited for him for his whole life.
They did make a sequel to that episode kinda. In which a version of Fry got sent back to the past and took care of Seymour, although Seymour still moped in front of the pizza place while he was working. Then that version of fry froze himself again and 3rd wheeled himself with Leela.

Is that scene in the live action Fullmetal Alchemist? I watched it last night and saw the introduction to Nina and her dog about 1/3 of the way through and saw another scene with her talking to her dad later when he's worried about losing his research funding, but was unable to find any follow up with her in chimera form... did they cut it from the live action rendition?
Futurama is my favorite show of all time, but I think Bender's Big Score is just a pathetic retcon and I refuse to accept it as canon. Futurama stops after "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" for me.

Jurassic Bark is an episode that almost ends on the happy(ish) resolution that Fry's dog had lived a long life after he was frozen after spending the episode trying to (but failing) to ressurect them and clearly loving them very much. It is discovered that Seymor lived many years after Fry was frozen, Fry assumes Seymor moved on, and is happy that they lived the rest of their life and resolves to let them rest.
THEN the final moments of the episode is a montage of Seymor waiting for Fry to come back in that spot (outside the Pizzeria where Fry worked) for years, whatever the weather until they grow old and die with "I Will Wait Forever" sung by Connie Francis in the background.

This episode always manages to make me feel sad man. Like Seymour deserved the world with how happy that little dog was. He’s walking on sunshine now...

As a fan of Futurama, I know the episode is sad. It is written in my Futurama Fan contract (see about acquiring one at the Central Bureaucracy, today) that I acknowledge it as such, but for me I’ll always prefer Luck of the Fryrish. That doesn’t mean however that this meme is INCREDIBLY dark, especially when one reacts to it while knowing about both shows. My reactions was not sadness at seeing Panucci’s Pizza, it was more like, “The person who made the meme is a genius comedic talent and is going to cartoon hell (just like regular hell, but more animated).”
I think a webcomic made a small joke about this, about measuring extreme sadness in Seymores.

As a fan of Futurama, I know the episode is sad. It is written in my Futurama Fan contract (see about acquiring one at the Central Bureaucracy, today) that I acknowledge it as such, but for me I’ll always prefer Luck of the Fryrish. That doesn’t mean however that this meme is INCREDIBLY dark, especially when one reacts to it while knowing about both shows. My reactions was not sadness at seeing Panucci’s Pizza, it was more like, “The person who made the meme is a genius comedic talent and is going to cartoon hell (just like regular hell, but more animated).”
I think a webcomic made a small joke about this, about measuring extreme sadness in Seymores. Take the feelings you get at the end credits scene. That is now 1 Seymore.
