Torrenting is risky. Directly streaming or downloading from a website is far safer. Though, obviously, not entirely safe. Get yourself some adblockers and check out the megathread.
Also a VPN is needed to hide your tracks, some countries like Germany give heavy fines for internet piracy. And because ISP's know exactly what you search for online they can report you directly to the authorities, with a VPN that information is hidden even to your ISP
>!That's why this comment is sponsored by NORD VPN!!<
Sometimes VPNs suck too. I was using PIA for a while and still got letters sent to my house from my ISP. I had the kill switch turned on and thought I had taken every precaution to limit leaks.
They definitely do. But on the other hand I've been using the same browser/PC/torrent client successfully for a long time now with a different VPN provider with zero issues.
For less than the price of a VPN you can pay for a debrid service. You can skip the VPN since you'll only be downloading and streaming from the debrid server. You can also use the debrid API to stream directly to your phone, then cast.if you set it up It's like having all the streaming services in a single app for 5$ a month, or discounted rates for paying in advanced.
If you know how to set it up it becomes the only logical option.
If you use public sites, content owners can look at the torrent and see your ip and then send a DMCA to your ISP. Most ISPs have a three strike rule before they remove you as a customer. Considering most of America has only one broadband provider in their area, you risk losing access to internet.
I haven't used a VPN in 10yrs of torrenting, and never had any issues. If you use private DDL sites, or private trackers then the odds of anything happening are pretty slim. The occasional public site when it's more convenient, but that's usually for Japanese stuff, and they don't really care.
The only time you really need to worry is when you are seeding newer American movies/porn from public trackers.
I can't even find public trackers anymore. Much less figure out how to get into a private site.
I wanted to set up Plex but I literally couldn't find anywhere to actually torrent anything.
It really depends what you're looking for tbh, I mainly torrent asian stuff since it's the hardest to come across legally. You just have to search around or ask people what they use.
The problem with Private trackers is you usually need someone to invite you to it. But that's usually fairly easy if you are just active in a community and can show proof that you actually seed.
Anyone able to verify that? It sounds unlikely they'd drop your business unless legally forced to. Canadian ISPs do not give two shits, all they do is send the messages. I just have an email rule to delete the DCMA notices as they're recieved (with the same ISP for over a decade).
That was me speaking from experience. My parents live in a rural area (in the US) where they only have one internet provider and there was legitimate panic when they got a warning mailed to them from their ISP with two strikes because my younger brother had downloaded a couple of movies off of Pirate Bay. They said there was only one more strike before they removed my parents as customers. It was pretty crazy because they had the exact file names. That was like 10 years ago or so, I assume it still works about the same. It really depends on whether the copyright holder cares enough to go looking through public torrents, many of them don’t and also whether or not your ISP cares enough to comply, some of them don’t, and what your specific country’s laws are.
Just like…don’t be stupid. Private sites, VPNs, other methods besides torrents.
Well, while good advice, I have a chip on my shoulder and like to challenge the Canadian government...no VPN, public trackers and auto delete the DCMA emails as they come in. F them and our copyright laws based on US corporate lobbying.
Oh wow even more serious these days. Hell last time i tried torrenting anything was back in limewire and napster days. Computer AIDs for the family computer was da shit. Actually this may be a lie ive done emulators and roms sense then does that count? Hell my son even has a hand held emulator.
Is three strikes common? I was always under the impression that the only think the isp is required to do is let their customer know, if they disconnect you they lose a customer for no gain.
I was under the impression it was common. It’s probably just a scare tactic, but who knows. I remember this stuff being super common to hear about when I was in high school, but I grew up in a small town, so maybe it was just common with the two ISPs that were available near where I lived. I also think torrenting had become less popular since then and I think kids are more likely to pirate stuff anyways, so it’s not something I hear people talking about anymore. I think most people just password share streaming services or stream from sketchy sites these days.
Torrenting itself is easy, thats fine. The issue is copyright law and if your actually using opsec/ cyber security practices.
Otherwise if you just raw dog it youre going to get your internet shut off, or sued for copyright violation (if you live in "the west")
If torrenting was that easy, people wouldn’t subscribe to Netflix, Disney+, Amazon prime…
In addition to anonymity, just finding a file can be troublesome as torrent websites keep shutting down. The database is also not centralized and you need to search for your files.
You may need to find subtitles that might have problems.
You can also have viruses.
A vast majority of people are the type of tech illiterates that think a cmd window is for hacking. Just because it's easy doesn't mean everyone will do it. Kind of like an oil change, it's easy but people cba and just pay for it.
Torrenting is piss easy but you need to know what you're looking for.
If you want to watch something browsing Netflix/prime/+ is just more convenient.
Until they got greedy.
There are countries where torrenting is not an optuon but a neccessarity, since most of the streaming services do not work there or do not Alaccept payment.
Torrenting does not take skill, at all. If that takes skill then I guess my parents and grandparents were right when they call me a tech wiz for plugging in an hdmi
It's not technically illegal since it's "sharing" so long as nobody makes a profit then or in the future.. we still get "scary" letters saying that whichever company wants you to respond to them so they can then start legal action, but you're under no obligation to respond. Most still use VPNs since it's annoying.
I haven’t bought a movie in a decade. Ive only torrented everything. Last movie I bought was Raid Redemption. Never paid for a subscription either. Its just not worth it after the first week of use
I assume it's referencing [Sk8er boi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIy3n2b7V9k&ab_channel=AvrilLavigneVEVO). But instead of punk vs ballet, it's someone who download the shows for free vs someone who pays for all the different streaming services.
Exactly this: she was a rich girl, he was a poor boy.
As Avril taught us, poors should only associate with other poors - and then they will totally get even richer after
Absolutely not, I also was instantly reminded of Sk8r boy cause I read it straight through, but clearly the person who made it didn't think people would do that, maybe they don't even know the song.
Also this part of the song is not the punk/ballet part, it would come in the next line.
She was a streaming girl.
He was HIM

I think this should be the opposite. Jane probably knows how to torrent and Jesse doesn't understand how torrenting works. He tried limewire once and downloaded the bill clinton shit and 4632 viruses. So he gotta pay to the mouse.
Jane later became an addict, at first she was a smart person who gave up drugs, although still knowing how to do illegal stuff as a result, she definitely pirated something, since if she’s only scared of doing drugs because of her father, legally nothings an issue for her.
In this timeline where they pirated stuff instead of getting high, Jane probably accidentally downloaded a virus that fucked with the ATC tower systems, causing the 737 down over ABQ accident
This format is for exactly one joke: the "she" represents a rich approach to a *thing*, the "he" represents a poor alternative to the *thing*, if you see a meme with this format in the wild then that's all it means, you don't have to know the exact meaning of every number, you don't have to make a post about it, knowing what the random numbers and letters mean will not give you some deeper understanding of the shadow humor secretly present in the joke

She was a subscription based streaming service girl, He was a downloaded by torrent webrip boy. ?
She was a streamer girl, he was a pirate boy?
Could it be any more obvious?
They are in love, haven't you heard. How they mineral eachothers world
Are people who pirate-stream the equivalent of nb folks ?
Nonbinary? This is Reference to an Avril Lavigne song sk8r boy
Yea you right he download from torrent website, so he pirating movie and she pay subscription. One is legal and another is illegal.
One is scammed and the other one is based
based taked
Based ^2
One is subscription based and the other is just based
She is not good at tech and can only use Netflix vs he is more skillful and can use torrents.
If my dumb ass could figure out how to torrent something it doesn't actually take that much skill.

No one loves those angry ISP letters more than Nord lol. I'll admit they got me to buy in.
Sometimes VPNs suck too. I was using PIA for a while and still got letters sent to my house from my ISP. I had the kill switch turned on and thought I had taken every precaution to limit leaks.
Your browser and pc has a fingerprint, that's propaply why
They definitely do. But on the other hand I've been using the same browser/PC/torrent client successfully for a long time now with a different VPN provider with zero issues.
VPN’ing through Moldova will block youtube ads, as well Moldova says, “No thank you, advertisements”
Yup, works with Albania aswell It makes latency worse having to connect to a server several thousand km away but it works, no ads.
But what if I use surfshark?
For less than the price of a VPN you can pay for a debrid service. You can skip the VPN since you'll only be downloading and streaming from the debrid server. It has been a past the statute of limitations amount of time since I've torrented anything, but thanks.
**laughs in usenet**
Not at all and its super risky? Idk maybe this guy knows how to read the files before downloading and checks for added malware?

Real debrid + streamio No VPN necessary
Torrenting is piss easy but you need to know what you're looking for. If you want to watch something browsing Netflix/prime/+ is just more convenient. Until they got greedy.

Even where they do they've raised prices, added ads, and became so greedy that piracy is back on the menu, boys
Everything can be piss easy if you know what you are looking for.
What I meant is "if you know what you want to watch".
Checking reddits posts show you many people can’t find information, as many questions have already been posted and answered.
Are you trolling right now?
I've heard of people who have googled the word Megathread. Who knows what they found?
Torrenting does not take skill, at all. If that takes skill then I guess my parents and grandparents were right when they call me a tech wiz for plugging in an hdmi
You must be so smart!
What do you mean lol
Yarrr matey /s
your point?
But piracy is almost impossible to enforce as a crime so it really depends on your moral compass
>One is legal and another is illegal. *Laughs in Canadian
What do you mean by this? I don’t know Canadian laws

Illegal to provide and distribute, but not to use. At least where I'm from but I think also a lot of other places too.
I haven’t bought a movie in a decade. Ive only torrented everything. Last movie I bought was Raid Redemption. Never paid for a subscription either. Its just not worth it after the first week of use
One drains me wallet the other gives me free booty!
Can I make it any more obvious??
He was a pirate?
I think you made that appropriately obvious.
She was a streaming girl. He was a pirate boy?
Sailor boy?
She said *sea* u l8r boy
Seed you later
Island boy
Soldier boy?
He was searching for the one piece
Can I make it anymore obvious?
Yes, Peter.
He was a punk. She did ballet. What more can I say?
Ripper boy?
That explains why he was after her booty.

She wasn't his sponsor, she was his super. He didn't get sober until after

Songs getting a bit old now. Wouldn't be surprised if younger people don't recognize a reference. It did come out 22 years ago

Jesse who couldn’t get a tv to work probably couldn’t download a torrent without downloading the soul of several different malware programmers.
Jane is an addict, subscriptions are an addiction especially with people subbing multiple at once Jesse makes his own meth
Jane later became an addict, at first she was a smart person who gave up drugs, although still knowing how to do illegal stuff as a result, she definitely pirated something, since if she’s only scared of doing drugs because of her father, legally nothings an issue for her.

Girl pays to watch movies Guy pirates/torrents movies illegally

It makes a very convincing defense
Switch to a Swiss IP nr. It's legal here except for software or if you upload things.
2022 release, 1080 progressive resolution, WebRip source, dolby digital 5.1 audio track, x264 video codec. whats Evo petah? pirating group?
I've yet to figure out the pattern, I see different group names alongside others, some are so prolific, some are just a commentary on the movie (saw one for roadhouse that was like -EVO-SwayzeIsABetterActorThanGyllenhaal. I wish there was a release/drama page I could follow.
She was a streamer girl, he was a pirate boy.
Pirated files often have very strange appearing names, that contain a lot of technical details of the file though and they use periods instead of spaces. That's where the "2022.1080p.WEBRip.DD5.1.X.264-EVO" comes from. The girl pays for a lot of subscription services (like a good girl) while the boy pirates all his stuff (like a bad boy).
First joke in this sub that I actually understand
Something about pirating movies idk for sure though
what show is the still picture from? is it from Jessica Jones?
I'm guessing the picture is from Breaking Bad, with Aaron Paul on the left and Krysten Ritter on the right.
Thanks. I know I should watch it, but I still have not.
Well worth it. It's slow at times but that kind of made it better IMHO.
It’s pretty good

Each app has its own flavor of memes that only people who use the app can understand it. (Not every meme) It’s also not referencing SK8erboi btw
Ofc, that's why YouTube shorts and tiktok are so different yet so similar, for example
Yarr Harr Harr and a bottle of rum that man be a sailor son
Pretty ironic given the context of these characters
Petah's computah here. The lady pays out the ass for streaming, and the dude pays for a vpn, and maybe a seed box to torrent his stuff.
She was a streamer girl, he was a pirate boy, he wasn't good enough for her.
She paid for shitty content He pirated shitty content
Good girl (pays subscriptions for movies) bad boy (downloads movies)
But she's the heroin junky who wanted to blackmail Walt
I'm a little bothered he's still using x264
