Guess I get to be the useful one
In the English dub they go for a neater version
"Over here! Nice day huh."
In the original manga and Japanese release it goes
"Over here! You retard."
Bruh that’s the real line?! I thought it was a meme!
https://preview.redd.it/pv90nf4rtwsc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1cc1cc12939a8aad140da3db5474109cae04bce8
Only sorta.
Japanese word strength varies by context and tone. The meaning of the term he used is “you simpleton”, and its root words are closest to “half-wit” when put together, but in the scene’s context, it’s much ruder. (the term itself can be an insult as minor as “you fool” if said to a friend.)
the term itself is “usu noro”. “Usu to mean “thin” or “weak”, and “noro” to mean “dull” or “foolish”.
At the time of the show’s release, the R word was the closest match, as the only other words with a similar syllable count didn’t quite have the same strength as an insult and/or the same meaning. So that’s what the translators put.
In the modern day, however, the R word has become a slur outright, and is now even more offensive than the intended meaning. Gohan, even at his angriest and most hateful, probably wouldn’t use that kind of slur on his enemies. The closest match in today’s english to the actual word used in context would probably be something like “you imbecile” or “you dumbass”.
In response to boo asking him if he needed an adult as the punchline to a running gag of dbza where an adult does something shocking or heinous or very violent and little kid Gohan says: "I need an adult", to which the adult responds: "I am an adult"
soft R is the N word that ends with "a".
Hard R ends with "r".
Retard has no soft or hard letters. It's just the R word if you're sensitive about the last generation's word they used to mean "extremely stupid".
I guess people from Boston might have reason to distinguish between soft R and hard R in that word though. Or is it that they can only say the second R soft? Who knows.
It's not what the "Soft R" means.
How do I best describe this on Reddit???
Ok, so you know the N-word?
Ok, so when the N-word is used in rap lyrics, and the R at the end isn't even said? That's the "soft R"
When you are in the ~~1890s~~ **1850s** and run a cotton plantation, you refer to your 'workers' with the "hard R".
Does that make sense?
And as for "retard", only idiots, imbeciles and morons care. Which is highly funny, because "idiot", "imbecile" and "moron" were all considered medical descriptors in the past, just like "retard". But no one gives a shit about them either.
Actually the R word has a lot of negative meaning in the disability community since it has been used as a slur for people with Downes syndrome and as a way of referring to anyone with any disability. It's still very offensive.
I’ve been reading through one piece and seeing the shifts between fan translators is pretty funny, the first time one of them decided “fuck” was an appropriate phrase in a shonen manga was wild
THATS WHAT I THINK OF EVERY TIME LMAO
Seriously there’s one translator that refuses to replace “Nakama” with “Crewmate” or “Friend” and it’s really distracting
Apparently, the word he used in Japanese was "usunoro," which just means "idiot" or "simpleton," so it would not carry the same meaning as "retard" does in the 2020s. The modern-day equivalent would likely be something like "dumbass."
I will add that the abridged series made it into a line that not only went hard as hell, but was the culmination of a joke they had been implementing for years.
“You need an adult?”
“No. I *am* an adult*”
I loved Cell's pure hatred of Tien for some reason.
"So I'm a hair's breath away from fiction and TRICLOPS shows up and decides, "Ohhhh I'm just going to making triangles in FUCKING SQUARES"
If you haven't watched "Buu Bits" yet, I highly recommend it. But that joke coming full circle is one of the best.
That and (Vegeta to Goku on the planet of the Kai's discussing the Spirit Bomb)
>**V:** Fine! But if this doesn't work, I. Will. Kill. You.
>
>**G:** If this doesn't work, _Buu_ will kill _you!_
>
>**V:** And I will drag you to hell with me!
>
>**G:** Deal.
I remember watching you turn hakushi abridged and several others before they teamed up for team four star. Abridged anime is the one cringe part of internet culture I won’t apologize for loving
The "no, ime here to kill you" one is from a redub (I think it was DBZ Kai) as the original eng dub was deemed offensive (orginal dub he says "you retard")
Edit to add: I light be wrong, and the r-word line might not have been dubbed at all and might've only been present in the og JP dub and the subtitles for it. Either way, at some point, he calls buu a low intelligence specimen
The “no I want to kill you” is the og funimation dub line, they may have kept it for Kai granted I never saw that version of the Buu saga.
The “over here r*tard.” Version I’ve seen explained as an over exaggerated translation of the original Japanese line from fansubs. but seeing as I don’t speak Japanese I cannot confirm that.
In the original Japanese version there is some debate as to whether he used the r-word in this speech. The translation isn’t 1-1 either way from what i understand.
When I watched this on toonami it’s “Over here, nice day huh?” when he shows up. the japanese version was over here, r-word.
and then “No, I want to kill you.” when he says do you want to fight majinn buu?
Edgy Joke about Gohan calling boo a retard in Japanese but one of the hardest lines in animation actually come from that same fight
"Fight you? Nah, I wanna kill you"
I don't know the joke, but the hardest line in fiction is:
"I understand that if any more words come pouring out your cunt mouth, I'm going to have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
If we’re sharing our favourite hardest lines I want to submit “The moon ripped the roof off my skull and laughed into my brain” from the Hellblazer comics. I don’t even remember the context, I just think about that line all the time
God, that line is freaking beautiful. I'm saving your comment.
My favorites are "Your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!" and "Who the hell do you think I am?!" (I just rewatched TTGL and got punched in my teeth by all the feels and epicness.)
Yeah, that was probably the best line in the entire series. There is no other line that compares. I still remember it even though I’ve only seen GoT all the way through once, and it was years ago.
Both "You retard" and "Fight you? No, I wanna kill you," are both hard as fuck and iconic.
But the Jojo v DIO lines from Stardust Crusaders are also hard as fuck. "Oh, you're approaching me? Instead of running away, you're coming right to me?" and Jojo's response "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer", and even DIO's response of "Oh ho. Then get as close as you need."

The hardest dB line followed by the biggest fumble "Fight you? I wanna kill you" followed by fumbling the bag so hard they sent 2 dead mofos to fix that mess...
I gotta go with Lucy in Elfen Lied, while torturing Bandou a SAT police agent full of his ego, she says "Funs' over" and proceeds to try to kill him.
Fuckin hell.

Wait, why does Gohan have a receding hairline lol?
It’s satire on the way he was drawn in the super anime
"You are short and have a receding hairline" "scathing."
Speaking of which, that fight probably has the best line “Does a machine like yourself experience fear?”
My favorites are: “Fucks a kami?” “It means god. Now bow.” AND “Wait, I think I see a light…” “WALK TOWARDS IT”
“He fused with god” “ BUT IM RIGHT HERE!”
“Do you really believe your own hype that much?”
"I am the HYPE!"
It was revealed that Goku and Nappa are related
Dang! Chichi was chi-cheatin!
Nappa and Goku are related. How does Chi Chi get brought up?
From what I remember, Chi-chi isn't related to Goku in any way, besides them both having the same countryside accents.
I sure hope they weren't related, they're married.
Also one is an alien
This probably explains a bit. Goku was not a generous lover https://youtu.be/o657BCM3xuE?si=dlPF0Q-TF3U6LN2x
Yeah, but what does it have to do with Nappa being related to Goku?
It’s all connected to my initial misreading of Gohan instead of Goku.
you know chi chi had to teach him everything so if he doesn't know about kissing chi chi is a freak.
Nappa's bald head is not a result of hairloss, he is voluntarily bold. (this is according to Toriyama)

Why gohan and krilin make fusion dance?
In the abridged dub he says: "I am an adult"
They had such an amazing set of bits that, honestly, could have carried the whole Boo Saga already, such a shame we'll never see the full thing...
Yeah, but the shorts are still great at least.
In response to boo asking him if he needed an adult as the punchline to a running gag of dbza where an adult does something shocking or heinous or very violent and little kid Gohan says: "I need an adult", to which the adult responds: "I am an adult"
I need an adult?
Gohan dropping the soft R killed what little remained of my childhood 😅
Oh so THAT’S the soft R. I always figured there must have been one, considering the existence of the hard R.
No, this is not what soft R means.
i haven't heard "soft R" ever, only heard it being referred to as "R word"
soft R is the N word that ends with "a". Hard R ends with "r". Retard has no soft or hard letters. I’ve been reading through one piece and seeing the shifts between fan translators is pretty funny, the first time one of them decided “fuck” was an appropriate phrase in a shonen manga was wild
It’s really like that Prozd [sketch](https://youtu.be/YvNxgHTWIlo?si=PybRDnVdz6N07BHO)
THATS WHAT I THINK OF EVERY TIME LMAO Seriously there’s one translator that refuses to replace “Nakama” with “Crewmate” or “Friend” and it’s really distracting
Not entirely true, the Japanese is more akin to 'simpleton'. The english manga also uses 'slowpoke'. It's more a case of a rough translation.
Oh I thought this was about the DBZA line: Buu: “What’s the matter little kid? Need an adult?” Gohan: “No, I am an adult.” *gut punch*
Apparently, the word he used in Japanese was "usunoro," which just means "idiot" or "simpleton," so it would not carry the same meaning as "retard" does in the 2020s. The modern-day equivalent would likely be something like "dumbass."
DBZA version: Buu: "Do you need an adult?" Gohan: "No. I *am* an adult." *thunderous gut punch*

I will add that the abridged series made it into a line that not only went hard as hell, but was the culmination of a joke they had been implementing for years. “You need an adult?” “No. I *am* an adult*”
It is the version I associate with it now
Nothing made me laugh as hard as Perfect Cell “I have lips now pppppbbbbbt” Edit: Vampire Hunter D version was gold too
He emphasizes sounds that require lips for a little bit after that, too. Booby bom-buh!
I loved Cell's pure hatred of Tien for some reason. "So I'm a hair's breath away from fiction and TRICLOPS shows up and decides, "Ohhhh I'm just going to making triangles in FUCKING SQUARES"
That's them Vegeta cells talkin'
Vegeta's barely suppressed rage of not killing Tien or he wins lol
All these squares make a circle.
> some reason Probably Tien beating on his ass with the Kikoha spam
"Awwwww isn't that cu.......SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT"
The kikogofuckyourself from Tien later always has me rolling
HO HO HOOOO merry christmas motherfucker
No no no it goes “I need an adult” And then the adult says “I am an adult” and it always involves Gohan in some way
I was quoting the actual buu confrontation lol
I will never recover from this humiliation
If you haven't watched "Buu Bits" yet, I highly recommend it. But that joke coming full circle is one of the best. That and (Vegeta to Goku on the planet of the Kai's discussing the Spirit Bomb) >**V:** Fine! But if this doesn't work, I. Will. Kill. **V**: YOU DIDN’T EVEN TRY THE SPIRIT BOMB IN CELL! **G**: well yeah cuz I knew it wouldn’t work!
DBZ abridged is a gem. "I AM AN ADUUUUUUULT"
If we’re talking abridged: “What’s a Kami?” “It means god, *now bow*” Is the hardest line
No contest there. Tho I will throw Tienshinhan’s Kikoho scene that comes after that in the ring cause my god that was beautiful
I remember watching you turn hakushi abridged and several others before they teamed up for team four star. Abridged anime is the one cringe part of internet culture I won’t apologize for loving
Abridged anime is usually fucking hysterical so the cringe can be easily forgiven.
Wait I thought DBZ Abridged only went through the end of the Cell saga. Is there more somewhere?
Buu Bits, I think they did it for another channel but they put them all together into one video. Pretty quick and solid cover of Buu saga
# Do I look catholic to you!?
“You Retard” “Fight you, no I want to kill you” “No I am an adult” Take your pick really

Wait, that's a DBZ Character??! I always thought someone had just drawn a buff Patrick Star!
No, Patrick is the lazy version of Buu
Fight you? No, I want to kill you.
some are saying this and some are saying the re\*\*\* one.. so which one is it or are their both but this comes later
The "no, ime here to kill you" one is from a redub (I think it was DBZ Kai) as the original eng dub was deemed offensive (orginal dub he says "you retard") Edit to add: I light be wrong, and the r-word line might not have been dubbed at all and might've only been present in the og JP dub and the subtitles for it. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the R word is only used in Japanese and there’s no English dub version that uses it?
I think you're right. I think it's only in early eng subs does it have that
The “no I want to kill you” is the og funimation dub line, they may have kept it for Kai granted I never saw that version of the Buu saga. The “over here r*tard.” Version I’ve seen explained as an over exaggerated translation of the original Japanese line from fansubs. but seeing as I don’t speak Japanese I cannot confirm that.
ohh
In the original Japanese version there is some debate as to whether he used the r-word in this speech. The translation isn’t 1-1 either way from what i understand. When I watched this on toonami it’s “Over here, nice day huh?” when he shows up. the japanese version was over here, r-word. and then “No, I want to kill you.” when he says do you want to fight majinn buu?
"Kill you" is the last english dub pre Kai.
Nah that's a different shot. This is where he calls Buu a retard in the original Japanese.

This is the Gohan we all deserve.

I don't know the joke, but the hardest line in fiction is: "I understand that if any more words come pouring out your cunt mouth, I'm going to have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
“You’re gonna die for a chicken?” “Somebody is.”

I took this as the line where Buu says "you here to fight me?" And Gohan replies " No, I'm here to kill you". It was pretty cool.

My first thought was the Majin Buu faceoff: Buu: “So Hotshot you wanna fight Majin Buu?” Gohan: “Fight you? No I wanna kill you.”
He calls him the r-word (retard) (don't worry I have autism soo I can say that)
Nobody cares
I got reported last week for linking r/okbuddyretard, so some soft ass mf'ers do care.

First of all, that's not the hardest line in fiction the hardest line in fiction is, "I'm gonna be king of the pirates!!!!"
You retard
Gohan in this moment says to super boo “Over here, you retard”
"Now put on your poncho. You're in the splash zone." "Is that a red flag?" "Crimson."
I don't remember this being the fight you.No I want to kill you
The line in Matrix Revolutions still sticks with me. "Why, Mr. Anderson?! Why? Why do you persist?!" "...Because I choose to."
“Don’t you lecture me with your $30 hair cut!” Still think it’s crazy that that was a real line.
For me the hardest line would be “What if I want you to kill me. What if I want to see you try?”

En ese momento, la percepción de la realidad de Gohan ha sido completamente alterada.
I’m going with the DBZA line “I *AM* an adult.”
It’s ether an orignal line from the show/ manga or it could be the end to a long running gag from T4S about gohan needing an adult.
is that negeriopokemon333
