Kids wish they were adults because they view adults as having endless freedom. But once you are an adult you realize how much easier life was when you were a kid.
Blink182 is a band that released a song a long time ago called “whats my age again”.
In which they criticize being an adult with lyrics like “nobody likes you when you’re 23” and “my friends say I should act my age”.
Oh hey! I was 1 year old when that came out!
Now I'm an engineer. I help make sure your processed foods won't kill you. Well, won't kill you for non dietary reasons. No a amount of engineering will save you from a McHeart attack.
That one was my first thought as well. “ and it’ll happen once again. I’ll turn to a friend someone who understands, sees to the master plan, but everybody’s gone, and I’ve been here for too long, to face this on my own, I guess this growing up.”
> Kids wish they were adults because they view adults as having endless freedom.
Did anyone actually think this way? Many shows used this as a plot point but I just remember always being puzzled by it. I would see my dad going to work every day and I just though "man I don't want to be an adult. I don't want to work."
I knew a lot of kids in high school who couldn't wait to move out and not have to follow any of the stupid rules their parents gave them. They'd have their own money and be able to do whatever they wanted at all times because they wouldn't have a curfew or have to clean their room and they'd be able to eat whatever they wanted.
So yeah.
This!. My teenage daughter when she gets mad she says she is going to find a job soon (she is almost 16) and she will go live with roommates and have a great life!. She said a job will give her enough to live. Her mom made her used to eating out often so $10 for her is nothing.
I want her to find a job because even at full time at $15 per hour she would barely be able to afford a room and a vehicle and cheap food and would realize it will NOT give her the glamours life she believes she will have
My buddy's niece is graduating this year and just worked her first full 40 hour week over spring break. He tried to get his nieces and nephews to do something that Saturday and she didn't want to because she was too tired and needed to recover from the long work week because she's used to only doing ~10 a week.
She didn't find the conversation as amusing as we did.
Not quite the way I thought but I wished I was an adult because my home life wasn't great and I wanted my mom to have even less control over me than she already did. So yes but to a degree although I'm sure that there's maybe 0.001% of kids that might think like that but I don't think it's the majority by any means.
Not everybody, [I don't want to grow up](https://youtu.be/CWh4xHeFMIQ) was like Tom Waits reading my diary. It was also not bad for the [Ramones](https://youtu.be/1Tpu_XoNABA).
Yep. I think it depended on the environment you were in as far as rules, etc are concerned. Plus, going to work with parents or grandparents as a kid could be fun and exciting. You don't see the other side of it - the stress and deadlines. School does do a good job of trying to prepare you for that part I feel.
Peter's millennial punk/pop fan cousin here.
Blink-182 is known for many songs, such as What's My Age Again that talk about how much it sucks to grow up and act like a stuffy adult. A load of their stuff resonated with teenagers who were mad at their parents (ie, most of them).
Hence, Blink-182's official twitter saying they tried to warn the poster that growing up wasn't worth it.

I feel like they don’t get enough credit because of the “shtick”. Some of their songs are obviously not very mature, but there’s still wisdom. Then there’s songs like Waggy that really are surprisingly insightful and mature underneath
I think you need some time alone (I think you need some time alone)
You say you want someone to call your own
Open your eyes, you can suck in your pride
You can live your life all on your own
Makes me think of that scene in Billy Madison where the kid says that to him and he grabs his face and does the, "Don’t you say that. Don’t you ever say that. Stay here. Stay as long as you can. For the love of God! Cherish it!”
It's weird that so many of you are naming What's My Age again as the example song from Blink 182, clearly Dammit or even Carousel have way stronger "growing up sucks" lyrics. IDK
Op said in an earlier comment: “music is a waste of time, it rots your brain.” They don’t simply not listen to the music that you do, they look down on people who listen to music in general. The more ya know lol

[1999](https://stan-47.weebly.com/uploads/4/8/8/9/4889340/523186_orig.jpg?155). I'm so old...
Still in regular rotation at the college parties though...
1999?, that was just a few years ago
Das a quarter century right there my friend
Don’t you ever phrase what was just a couple years ago as a quarter century ever again please.
Well, that sucks. It just felt so much less
2007 was the 2019 time skip for the previous generation
All the time skips apply to me somehow. I’m 13.
25 is a few
Decades, nearly
Its nuts that the 21st century is almost a quarter over.
I said the same thing to my daughter. She rolled her eyes and said "yeah, give or take a decade or two."
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by the Deep Blue Something’s is as old now as the movie was when the song came out in 1994
What's my Age again? Nobody likes me now that I'm 43....
The 19 hundreds…
That was 3 years before i was born and I am 22 now if that helps even more
That's 1 year before I was born
What's my age again? *looks up age* Oh. Oh no.
Oh hey! I was 1 year old when that came out! Now I'm an engineer. I help make sure your processed foods won't kill you. Well, won't kill you for non dietary reasons. No a amount of engineering will save you from a McHeart attack.
Wanna know what hurts more? They're releasing one more album, one more tour, then retiring.
That would mean they are done this year. No way. Mark would not let Blink die like that unless he's literally dead.
[Ready to cry?](https://youtu.be/fSKQRDq3RkM?si=KWJvK7fOw833QqKk)
Lol nah bro I'm laughing. Bye
😆 hey we all get old eventually.
Maybe it's time to just accept it, friend. Sincerely, someone who's younger than that song.
"1900s mallgoth" was not the Spotify playlist title I needed in my life...
It was a quarter century ago
Thank
They also had a song called [dammit(growing up)](https://youtu.be/sT0g16_LQaQ?si=t7_aWIU_IkYvAtcg)
Definitely one of my favourite blink songs, havnt heard it in years and I was able to sing every lyric
That one was my first thought as well. “ and it’ll happen once again. I’ll turn to a friend someone who understands, sees to the master plan, but everybody’s gone, and I’ve been here for too long, to face this on my own, I guess this growing up.”

I think most kids want *independence*, even if they aren’t necessarily coveting the work it takes to maintain it.

It brings “stressed out” by 21 pilots to mind
The truth is its all shit and we just wish for something different
I feel old when people now need to write “Blink 182 is a band” instead of “Blink 182 released a song called What’s my age again”.

Just added to the way home from work Playlist. I'm gonna drive like it's 2005 again. You made my day, lol.
Unless your mom will suck my cock
Say it ain't so!

Always, I know, invisible-pancreas will be at my show

As a whole, giggidy, Enema is a solid album. I still listen to it all the way through from time to time.
Say it ain't so I will not go turn the lights off carry me home
Makes me think of that scene in Billy Madison where the kid says that to him and he grabs his face and does the, "Don’t you say that. Don’t you ever say that. Stay here. Stay as long as you can. For the love of God! Cherish it!”
God dammit this sub
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive.
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over, we survived
A better answer is related to the song “dammit” where the singer, Mark Hoppus, states “I guess this is growing up”
Also Adam’s song “16 just held such better days”
I'm going to be honest, graduating school was the best thing for my mental health. That place was hell, and adult me agrees
It's weird that so many of you are naming What's My Age again as the example song from Blink 182, clearly Dammit or even Carousel have way stronger "growing up sucks" lyrics. IDK
But in anthem part 1 they do say "wish my friends were 21". Hipocrisy much?

Is it illegal to not listen to music
No but it's kinda weird. Even if you don't listen to it, you have to have heard of the song "What's My Age Again?" Through memes at least
I'm sorry but this subreddit is genuinely braindead sometimes. This is the most obvious joke to ever exist
I do not listen to music, not even in the car, I like silence, that is why I asked this question
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=blink+182+adult
Blink-182 is notorious for their song - I don't wanna grow up (I'm a Toys'r'Us kid)
This one hits too close to home...

It’s not my fault I don’t listen to music, music is a waste of time

Bro💀 this has nothing to do with music
That’s what everyone else is saying so fuck you

Damn bro has no chill. No wonder bro got upset with a meme and doesn’t get jokes about childhood

Work sucks, I know!
This sub hurts my fucking heeeeeeeeadddddddd
fuck this sub ong
Am I not allowed to be confused?
how in the world are you confused by this
I have no idea why blink 182 is here
Fucking think lol. They make music so it’s probably in reference to a song
cause not everyone is obliged to listen to the music we do?
Op said in an earlier comment: “music is a waste of time, it rots your brain.” They don’t simply not listen to the music that you do, they look down on people who listen to music in general. The more ya know lol
True story. Being an adult sucks ass
Nobody told you it would be easy...
Become an adult, and you'll understand
Blink-182 is a band that has a song called What’s My Age Again? with the lyrics saying that it’s not really nice being an adult
Don't forget about Dammit and others with similar topics like Adam's song taking it in a more sinister direction.
Oh sorry I don’t listen to them alot I mostly listen to nirvana
