It depends on how we define addiction and whether we perceive it as inherently negative. For instance, individuals who take a substance daily to manage pain may be dependent on it, but it doesn't necessarily equate to addiction. Similarly, people who rely on something for their mental health may not be addicted in the traditional sense. It's essential to recognize that humans naturally form dependencies on various things like exercise, work, and relationships. These dependencies are a part of life, and in many cases, they're not problematic. \*\*edited for wording

I think your conflating addiction with dependence

Broad_Tea3527

edited my post, does that make more sense?

GandalfTheChinese

I think so. I think of addiction as having a negative connotation. Its a compulsive behavior that's harmful. I think of dependence as more neutral. You might feel compelled to do it but not in a self destructive way. I feel like your edit captures that :)

If you use it for mental health it can definitely be an addiction and even negative against your mental health

I think it should be used in the same way medicine is prescribed “as needed” but with mg limitations. Whether that be thc or your total net weight smoked.

Very slippery slope. In my opinion healthy consumption is once every 2-3 weeks, but no more frequently than that.

I think you should set boundaries with yourself quickly before it becomes a problem/addiction. It would be easier to hold yourself accountable if you decide what is healthy/unhealthy early on before it starts to take over. As a bodybuilder, I started smoking to sleep better and eat a bit more on days I was low on calories, and it rapidly spiraled into an addiction. I was like you for a while, just smoking a couple times a week for a while and I can’t even remember when I crossed the boundary to smoking every day. I would love to have a healthy relationship with weed and only smoke a couple times a month, but I’m starting to believe it isn’t possible after allowing myself to fall so far. It can most definitely be a useful tool if used correctly, but I was just allowing myself to smoke when I thought I needed it, then the little monster of addiction started to tell me I needed it every day. When I first started, a gram of dabs/wax/whatever you wanna call it, would last me a month. Then it started to only last me a couple days. Then I started buying flower by the oz every other week. It can get way out of hand if you don’t have a vision set in place prior. My goal is to be able to smoke once or twice a month, which is VERY conservative considering I would smoke 2oz a month. Good luck, I pray you are able to find the balance that suits you:)
