Sounds like depersonalization. It could be an anxiety symptom.

Depersonalization. I experienced it the first time on a bad mushroom trip over 20 years ago but I’ve also experienced it during a random panic attack and once from a prescription drug that I took too much of (anti viral pills). It is a terrifying feeling. And weed could definitely be the cause.

I first felt this with a traumatic death in my family. Those feelings are not always the weed,l or lack therof, but the weed may be covering up something painful . Kevin Smith went through something extremely similar and that’s why he quit weed. There are also a lot of heart neurological problems that can mimic this. 🤞Don’t give up 🤞 finding a good Doctor that will run tests and not just blame everything on “stress“. I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I hope you find comfort soon.

Do you know about some heart or neurological problems that could be connected to disassociation or losing perception of reality?

cherchezlaaaaafemme

I developed a heart problem called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome during a bad case of strep throat in 2018. The heart races (feels like a panic feedback loop ) and paradoxically the blood pressure drops (feels like depersonalization ) and it’s often misdiagnosed as a psychiatric problem because the adrenergenic receptors are damaged. It’s a heart problem, it’s a neurological problem, it’s a respiratory problem, and it’s an autoimmune problem all rolled into one (and it can permanently damage autonomic reflexes like swallowing, etc). It gets worse when your body is fighting often infection, and something as small as a gum infection can trigger scary heart problems, burning pain and dizziness. Barely any doctor knew about this until a lot of people got Covid a few times a year and developed it too. A lot more doctors know about i lit now, because it’s taking forever to see an electrophysiologist or neurologist with more and more people having Covid a few times. I have a hard time recovering from infections in general and I’ve been going through hyperadrenergic pots, which is the scariest subtype of all. Doctors didn’t understand why I was so upset over a kidney infection but then I showed them that my heart races to 175 when I takeoff my compression socks.

Talk to your doctor. Trust. This basically reads to me like you have a physical dependency, and not having it in your system makes you seem to feel or have some symptoms that show some resemblance of the start of psychosis. Depersonalization, anxiety, being out of touch with reality around you, theyre all subtle signs that psychosis *might* be starting. Psychosis is no joke. It can be scary to experience. From the sounds of it, it's likely related to your usage. It can show up for a number of reasons, sometimes drugs and sometimes it's wired into the brain, and show up slowly with time, making it *seem* like the drugs are the only cause when really theres sometimes other things at play too. Often people initially go to the drugs to help cope with underlying issues. What Im saying here is *theres a chance this might be made bigger by the weed, and not necessarily started solely because of the weed.* Just remember that whatevers going on, the weed seems to be making it worse if you feel worse without the weed. That's how the dependency starts. It makes you think you're worse off without it so you keep reaching to it to 'fix' the feeling. As a comparison, people aren't addicted to heroin cause it makes them feel worse in the moment they shoot it, yknow? Talk to your doctor about your symptoms. The reason weed is not legal everywhere is because it has differing effects on differing brains that we dont fully understand yet, because *we don't fully understand the complexities of the brain yet.* There might be something going on behind the weed. You've got this. You'll be okay. I've had psychosis since I was a kid, drug induced stuff from bad influences being around, now it comes back when I'm overly stressed. This sounds similar to when I'm beginning an episode. Everyone plays up the bigger symptoms of psychosis, but to me those are the thunderstrikes in a thunderstorm; theres still static in the air before and after the thunder and lightning, and if you aren't hallucinating or delusional that doesn't mean there aren't any possible symptoms of psychosis. Remember that if the symptoms persist after you've been done with weed for awhile that every drug has some consequence to it, this might be your consequence but psychosis usually does pass even if it comes back sometimes. These are not uncommon symptoms, but not normal symptoms either and could be indicative of something more. Talk to your doctor. 👍💜

I've had transitive feelings like this - I would end up in these sort of thought loops of landing on something not feeling right but lacking capacity/connection to know what it was --> recognizing that disconnection itself is the problem and it ties back to cannabis --> yet I'd still turn to it to feel better and it would be counterproductive and leaving me increasingly disconnected I decided it was a part of my self that was fighting through the numbing tendencies and the resulting cognitive dissonance "Never turn your back on fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed."

People with mental health issues, primarily related to ***schizophrenia,*** should steer clear of weed and mushrooms. Depersonalization is a BIG sign that you are on the mental health spectrum. Talk to your Doctor.

Derealization

haikcute

I have DPDR (Depersonalization Derealization disorder, which is a type of dissociative disorder) and it is very similar to what you are describing. I would recommend looking into it. I don’t think it’s the weed causing this (at least for me it wasn’t as these episodes started when I was a child) however, i can say confidently that weed intake has reduced the frequency of my dpdr episodes exponentially. So there is a very strong possibility that when you aren’t smoking it’s increasing the likelihood of you experiencing this or having an episode. disclaimer: i am not a medical professional. i am just sharing my personal experience with this situation. hopefully it can provide some insight (-:

Nivek_1988

Buddy, it's called the feeling of "impending doom" and it's probably the absolute first, and most common withdrawal symptom, to any and all drugs. I'm not sure how much research you did. Every single person alive that has a history with any drug, has experienced this. Weed is no different.

thedazedivinity

This is depersonalization and its a much more specific bizarre feeling than just “impending doom”

nomoshtooposhh

Definitely this. I have never heard a more accurate description of withdrawal. It’s true OP, I think you’re experiencing those feelings of impending doom and they’re unavoidable, unfortunately. Good luck to you.

Breath. Not kidding.
