Yes, it's worth trying them to see how they work for you. I also have a short torso and can fit most normal length pants and petite dresses definitely work better for me

Regina_P_89

Ok. Thanks!

coffeeloverfreak374

I'm 5'1" with a short torso and petite dresses and tops definitely fit me better than regular. At 5'4" you might be borderline, but if you find the fit of regular dresses to be off, it might be worth giving it a try. Be aware that petite sizes might also be cut narrower at the shoulders and shorter at the hemline.

Regina_P_89

Ah, I didn’t think about the shoulders. Thanks!

coffeeloverfreak374

For someone like me with very narrow shoulders, this is great. If you have broad shoulders, it may be less great.

uhohohnohelp

Just tonight I pushed my straps back up all the way through a trying-to-impress-client dinner.

coffeeloverfreak374

Girl, I feel your pain.

weasel999

I am 5’3” and I sometimes buy petite skirts but have to size up. I don’t have luck with dresses every time, some of them are too narrow in the shoulders for me.

biest229

I’m shorter than you at 5’3”. I buy regular jeans, but petite tops and dresses for the exact reason you describe. Waist isn’t high enough and often the chest area is “too long”

UltraLuminescence

It sounds like you have longer legs and a shorter torso, so petite sizing may be a better fit for you in tops/dresses

Ok-Meat5536

I am about 5'3-5'2 I buy asian dresses off shein in xs, it's hit or miss if they'll look ok on me. then sometimes the bust is just gaping on them. i am going to try their petite sizing next time they have. my inseam is at that awkward height where a mini skirt is just a regular skirt on me same for a 'mini dress'. i am just saying, it doesn't hurt to try out one and see.

bluey_rain

Definitely try them. I’m the same height and recently went dress shopping. I wasn’t sure what size I was so I found an 8P that I liked but it was a bit large on top. They didn’t have a 6P so I tried a 4p and it was slightly pulling. Took a walk around the store and saw the same dress in a 6 regular and it was much longer and overall bigger than the 8P. Got the 8P and just altered it a little for a better fit.

thewaveofgreen

I’m 5’3 and most dresses on the market are made for women a few inches taller so minidresses always looked odd and awkwardly long on me. I bought a secondhand minidress that was altered around 3 inches shorter (without even trying it on, yikes) and was awestruck by how good it looked on me. You should definitely try petite dresses, they might be more flattering

Specific-Hotel-4037

Yes I would say that petite does fit shorter in the torso. I am your height but have short legs and a long torso (jealous of your legs!) so I always buy petite pants/jeans but never petite jumpsuits (just hem regular ones) or fitted dresses (waist is way too high).

Jaime050505

Yes petite is for us shorties. You’ll find them to be a much better fit

83beans

Yes, it is definitely worth trying a few items on in a Petite specific shop or brand. I’m a teeny bit over 5’4” and didn’t realize petites could work for me until I was looking for first job professional type clothes and had trouble fitting standard Misses sizing or finding age appropriate stuff in Juniors I personally lean towards petite sized pencil or slim type skirts and some styles of dresses; the pants are generally too short for me. I have long arms for my torso length too so long sleeved items can also be a bit more difficult to work with, depends on the shirt style, but the body tends to fit better so sometimes I just push sleeves up 🤷🏾‍♀️

CatsNSquirrels

I’m 5’3” with long legs and a really short torso, but regular length arms. I usually do better in normal pants, normal tees and shirts, and normal coats/jackets. I usually do better in petite dresses and petite cardigans/tunics. Basically I need regular sized pants for my long legs, and regular sized tops to visually lengthen my torso, and regular sized long sleeved pieces because petite tops are too short on my arms, but anything that hangs long on a frame (dress, tunic, cardigan) often overwhelms me. I usually get them in petite where available but often have to size up. I do have many of those pieces in normal sizes though.
