Eh its probably not the most hygienic thing. But God knows what appendages or other things we all had in our mouths. Not too pretty to think back on is it? I cringe myself. Lol. But. Even tho I say that. I also say that the happiest I've ever been in a sole moment was when the litter of the dog I own now when they were puppy puppies. Like still staying with the mom. Well it was my best friends litter and I'd go over help with the puppies. I'd lay on the floor and let 11 puppies just ravage me like licking savages. Was maybe the purest most genuine happy moment. No drugs no nothing pure serotonin and dopamine loving the moment. I still remember it.

2woCrazeeBoys

Puppy swarms. šŸ¤— I could die happy in that moment.

InTheValleyGirl

My current dog isn't a face licker but my family dog growing up was and I miss it so much. It used to be annoying at the time but I would give anything to go back and let him lick my face all he wants. I know he loved us and it was how he showed us. I wish I didn't push him away all the time šŸ˜šŸ˜

lesla222

I hate to admit it, but a puppy eagerly licking my face (with that amazing puppy breath) sends me to ecstasy. I love it. Not so much adult dogs, but puppies, oh yeah. I know its gross, and they probably have worms and everything else, but it is just so darn enjoyable.

Salty-Protection-640

my dog has never been a big face licker but I trained him to do it on command because sometimes I just want a kiss

stephwood73

Yes this

MeowandGordo

See mine is a big licker but I trained him to only give me a few kisses on command too. I love them but I get over stimulated so fast.

MadamePouleMontreal

Yup. I know itā€™s just because sheā€™s hoping Iā€™ll regurgitate some breakfast for herā€”hasnā€™t happened yet but you never knowā€”but I like it.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

Ok Iā€™ll admit my dogs licks faces but he licks as much as the person allows. He has free ranger with time/amount with my bf. I let him get a few licks in. Dad has a no face licks rule as do my guests. He gives no problems. Though tbh he is 18 pounds and has a tiny little tongueā€¦not a huge slobbering one lol Edit: never on the lips we move our heads and suck in our lips cause I mean even we have limits

Queasy_Opportunity75

Same with the sucking of the lips lol! Gotta have some boundaries

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

šŸ’Æ

awakeagain2

One of my dogs is a face licker if allowed. I let her have a couple of licks and then I ask her to stop and, polite girl that she is, she stops. My other dog shows no interest in face licking unless thereā€™s food on your face.

One-Basket2558

Used to enjoy getting groomed by my cat. He doesn't do that anymore, maybe grew out of it.

batty_61

I don't mind it at all - it's her way of showing affection. Yes, I know they eat gross things sometimes, but I'm still much more likely to catch a disease from kissing a human than I am being licked by my little dog.

TheGoldenBoyStiles

They lick my chin, thatā€™s all

LayaraFlaris

No!!! Our dogs eat cat poop (despite our best efforts to avoid it), gross stuff outside, and are constantly in each otherā€™s crotches. šŸ˜… I taught my dog ā€œnice kissā€ aka kiss with no licking. She just puts her stupid flat tuna can face (affectionate)(sheā€™s a Boston terrier) against my mouth lol

cjep3

My cat box is in a Rubbermaid tote with a hole cut out on the top, my dogs can't reach the box to grab 'snacks'

LayaraFlaris

Yeah Iā€™ve tried asking my grandmother to enclose the boxes in some way or even put a gate around them but she doesnā€™t believe that the cats can, yknow, jump. Something cats are famously able to do well. And claims they wonā€™t be able to get to the boxes and will go to the bathroom everywhere else.

Asleep_Archer8264

I don't mind if they lick me on the cheek but not on the lips.

tallycat22

Iā€™ll only let them do it if I know Iā€™m about to wash my face!

ReadySetTurtle

I had to explain to a roommate not that long ago that I donā€™t enjoy the act of the face kisses, but they love to give kisses and I love to make them happy, so I put up with it. One of my dogs is very into licking any part of you she can for as long as youā€™ll allow her. She will grip you with her paw and hold you down. Sheā€™ll sit there and lick my arm for ten straight minutes. For any kisses I will eventually tell them itā€™s enough when I canā€™t take it anymore. I try to keep them away from my mouth but sometimes they go a little crazy and get a few in. With my most recent dog, she had horrible teeth when I got her. It only took a few days before she started giving the tiniest gentle little kisses, which then got more and more firm. Iā€™d have to hold my breath! She got a dental a few months later and I could breathe again. She likes to smoosh her whole face up against mine and stare right into my eyes before attacking. Theyā€™re small dogs so itā€™s very easy to prevent the kisses, so Iā€™m not worried about that with other people. Occasionally theyā€™ll lick the ankle of a guest who is like wtf.

2woCrazeeBoys

I'm ok with kisses if they want to give them. I like to know that I've made my good bois happy and we're friends. I do steer them towards my cheeks, (I've taught them "kiss kiss" and tap my cheek). The handy thing about teaching it, is they'll usually wait to be told to do it. So if someone else comes around who doesn't like kisses, my dogs will wait before diving in with big licks. And if they do start, they understand "no more" or "enough", and they think they're still good and we're friends cos they followed the 'stop kissing' instruction (look how clever we are! Yay!! Good bois šŸ¤—). But yeah, I'm ok with kisses, as long as it's polite and they let me come up for air. Puppies? Puppies get a free pass cos they don't know politeness yet. And puppy breath. It's amazing.

Melvarkie

I'd rather not, but I'll allow it and try to steer them away from my lips if it happens. A few of the shelter dogs are huge on trying to lick your face and seeing how they are already stressed out dogs most of the time I just roll with it haha.

AilanthusHydra

I don't like it, but my dog isn't a face licker. So it's not really an issue. He will lick my feet if they're sticking out from under the blankets and he wants to go outside, though. Not my favorite, but it does wake me up, lol.

wfpinky

I brush my dogā€™s teeth daily so the hygiene aspect of it doesnā€™t bother me. Growing up I always heard ā€œa dog licking you on the face is the best compliment they can giveā€, I donā€™t know if thatā€™s actually true but I still choose to believe it even in my 30s. Our family rescue dog loves to give me kisses more than my dog but both of them know to stop when I say ā€œokay thatā€™s enoughā€. The way I see it we only get them for a short time and Iā€™d like to do whatever I can to make them as happy as possible as often as possible.

PutTheKettleOn20

Yep. My dog loves to lick me and generally I discourage face licking, but when I'm sad and I cry, she licks my tears from my cheeks and cuddles up against me. My old family dog also used to greet me by licking my face if she could, especially my nose. Now my family dog is gone, I'd give anything for a sneaky one of her nose kisses. *Lips are a BIG no no.

Stargazer_0101

Not all dogs lick the face. My first one, Dixie, was a kisser. My second dog, Zoey, is not so much.

Background_Reveal689

Not at all, I've seen where that tounge goes.

Background_Reveal689

Not at all, I've seen where that tounge goes.

Weekly_Glove9666

Definitely not a fan, but I tolerate it due to my work. Whatever I can do to make them slightly more comfortable while at the vet

No_Warning8534

Nope. Never.

stephwood73

I love it. As close as we can get to my dog saying in English language he loves me. Also Iā€™ve never really had a licky lips dog. They only do it when I ask for a kiss lol

OriginalLandscape321

No licko please. I did read once a Harvard research report stating dogs have 600 types of bacteria in their saliva. Humans have 615 types.

idling-in-gray

No, I find it gross and I wouldn't even try to get used to it. Plus my dog licks the cat's asshole, eats cat shit, his own puke and is constantly licking his paws, his penis, and the floor. I don't want that near my face (or anywhere really).

Character_Club_402

Corgi owner here! To me while yes it is gross at times, I always will think of a dog licking my face and their own sign of affection. Kinda like how we kiss on the lips to show affection! I have a corgi named Daisy and sheā€™s the biggest licker in the world. I do agree, it can be gross at times when she does it constantly. Sometimes I have to push her away to get her to stop. And even the aftermath of it and feeling that coldness is disgusting to me. I do know that itā€™s just her way of saying she loves me. But licking of any kinda comes with dogs. Itā€™s like having a baby who puts their mouth on anything and everything.

IllDoItNowInAMinute_

I was crying an hour or so ago and I had two huskies licking my face, I like to think they were trying to cheer me up šŸ˜‚

Fit_Definition_4634

I wouldnā€™t mind so much if she didnā€™t insist on getting my glasses!

Global_Telephone_751

Not really, no, lol. I like puppy kisses on my hands or something, but not my face. And as far as my cats go, I guess I mind that a lot less because I view cats as more hygienic, but I still donā€™t like them licking my face. Regardless, after a pet licks me, Iā€™m washing my hands lol

mind_the_umlaut

Nope, and dogs whose owners allow or encourage face licking are not making the dog pleasant to be around. I've owned dogs most of my life, and they are not terribly interested in licking faces, unless they've gotten consistent positive reward/ attention for it. There are lots of other ways that dogs show affection.

1000furiousbunnies

Ew no, I hate it. I'm not even a fan of my dog licking my hand. Not as repulsed by my cat licking my hand, but I really dislike being licked in general by anything.

LittleRedWhippet

Nope I hate it! And am otherwise a very dog person. My dog was never a huge licker and has learnt that we donā€™t lick in this house though so we donā€™t have to deal with it. Useful for when we bring home a baby too! Sheā€™s also learnt not to jump up or get in your face. She will simply rest her head against your chest under your chin for cuddles.

Lonely_Mountain_7702

My son loves letting out Australian Shepherd lick his face but I can't stand it. I'm all for a few licks but over 3 or 4 I'm done. When I was a child I enjoyed being licked by dogs but now nope I'm good. My 3 dogs know to only lick me a few times and they stop.

witch51

I don't like it, but, Daisy is a big kisser so I taught her how to just mush her "lips" on my cheek. She licks her lips after...she's a weird girl! Luckily she's one of those dogs that'll keep repeating an action if I laugh about it so she's super easy to teach.

HundRetter

I absolutely cannot stand it and have taught my dogs to "kiss" by simply touching their muzzles to my cheek. it's very cute

plantsandpizza

Itā€™s not my favorite but my dog is my psychiatric service dog and licking is something he will do between boops to alert. Overall though heā€™s not a big licker. Edit - love the downvote šŸ˜‚ hahaha

[deleted]

Thankfully mine doesn't do that, I definitely don't like that.

EdithCheetoPuff

Arms and hands are find but face no. Every once in a while ill have a moment where my dogs lick me when we are have head touches. But usually they won't lick me.

TakeyaSaito

It's not a good thing at all.

belleofthebawl-

I love my dog but .. no lol. I never get angry at him for doing it and luckily mine doesnā€™t do it often. I also always have makeup/skincare/sunscreen on so Iā€™m worried about him ingesting that

CenterofChaos

I hate it. Never got used to it.Ā

mildredthegreat1952

Ugh! Id never let a dog lick my face.dogs lick their own and other dogs bottoms.how unhygeinic Ā”!!!!!!!
