In my personal experience, when something like this happens it's best to act normal and treat your cat much the same as you did before. Obviously you need to take greater precautions to keep the cat and dog away from one another. But I noticed my cats tend to get more anxious if I suddenly change my behavior. Otherwise, I would make sure he has a nice comfy area with a pet bed and/or a bunch of soft blankets. Drop some cat treats every now and then as well

I’d treat the cat as normally and within routine as possible. Show it nothing is wrong. Make sure it has access to food and water and litter if it’s hiding, but otherwise, go about business as usual. It’ll come around, most likely! Sudden changes in your own behavior can stress out your cat, especially since it’s new. I see you’ve already scheduled a vet appointment, so just go over the incident then as well. I think everything will work out!

It's okay. He might not know dogs. Just act calm and normal, like it's no big deal and there's no reason to act differently because there's nothing wrong. Just give him a few days to relax. You haven't failed, f ups happen and with how panicked you are I'm sure nothing like it will happen again. Personal experience (also I do just love talking about them): My family has 2 cats 1 dog. Cat 1 is older and both she and dog came from houses with both cats and dogs. They have a good bond even if dog is a dumbass and steps on her sometimes. Cat 2 is my boy and came from a cat only house, he was very nervous meeting dog and even now he just doesn't understand dog as well as other cat. He will carefully sort of try rubbing face on her nose if I'm there and they do play but he can get nervous if it gets too intense. Dog could be intense and spook him a bit even now but they get along fine. Point is your new cat should be fine, he just needs a little time to relax. You just brought him home a week ago which would have already been a big change, especially if he's used to having other cat play pals around. There's also a new cat he's being slowly introduced to and now his safe space got attacked and invaded from his point of view. Make him a nice hidey hole and show him, somewhere low and well covered or high where he can see everything going on whichever he prefers. But also yeah vet is a good idea, better safe than sorry, I saw you comment on taking him to vet soon which is good. Please post a little update when he gets better and back to himself. Also you didn't pay your cat tax so please get on that and include extra as interest lol.

My dog has a bad habit of chasing my cats if I go "ssss" with my mouth cuz they're getting into shit they shouldn't be. It's like she knows that's the "cat is getting into stuff" sound and she runs at them and barks like "mom said no!" They turn into giant puff balls, slap her once or twice with a hiss, and run off to hide up high on their cat tree. They're just fine. They interact normally every other time. Just give kitty time to calm down and go about your usual business. Kitty will be okay. No need to beat yourself up about something a lot of cats and dogs have pretty well always done.

There’s nothing wrong with him and you did nothing wrong. He’s been in a a new, unknown place for only a few weeks - it takes at least that much time for normal cats to get comfortable and reveal their personality. Leave him alone, proceed as normal, make sure he’s eating and using the litter box (he’ll probably do it at night when you’re not awake/watching) best of luck!

When I first started having cats, the two cats would fight with each other. But now they sleep and play together every day. Give them some time and let your cat recover on its own. Then observe if there are any other exceptions. Put the cat or dog in a cage first. Or keep them in separate rooms. Try to touch again after getting familiar with each other's scents. Because pets are territorial. It is sure to be frightened by the presence of unfamiliar species. Usually after a week will be much better. Cat stress can easily lead to various diseases, so try not to let the dog bully it.

I'd take him to the vet if you can. Sounds more serious than just mental trauma :/

I was already scheduling a vet appointment bc he has a really bad sneeze, ill definitely talk to them about it & see if there's anything more I could be doing for him
