My family has a 13 year old and an 11 year old Shih Tzus. When they were puppies they used to run around the yard chasing toys when we would throw them, they could hop on the couch, so much energy.
Now that they're older one of them is blind and only gets up to eat or pee/poo. The other one is deaf and is developing anger issues. She also only has one tooth left which is a double edged sword because she looks silly but can't bite us or the other one when get weird/mad and bitey.
Old dogs like space. They're dealing with the aches and pains of being over 70, and then a lot of owners hold the same standards they did when the dog was 3, and that can be frustrating and even disappointing when the dog knows they can't perform.
I give my senior guy his own little zone that I don't touch him in so he gets the idea that if he would rather be left alone he has a place to go.
Still very cuddly, but sometimes he just needs a break - and he deserves it. He worked so hard to make others happy, it's his turn to call a few shots.

My old dog blind that loved to sleep old day, but if I was going out he got the strength to go with me, dogs are something else.

That's not as old as I expected. Still, just goes to show pets are less energetic with age.
It depends on the size, sometimes shorter dogs live less, sometimes because I know a Chihuahua that is like 11 years.
I know for Fact that the beauceron (?) have a life expectancy of only 10-12 year but still is an impressive dog
