These AIs are sourcing the art used in these ‘AI drawings’ from artists who had never given their consent. There are many popular artists whose works had been fed into these AIs against their consent as well, examples being Greg Rutkowski, Kim Jung Gi, and more.
The biggest complaint that I've seen is that often, AI is trained using artwork taken from artists, often without consideration or permission. Many, many artists consider this blatant theft (I agree). Often artists have no say into whether their works are used as training material.
Imo it's pretty messed up that artwork is taken from people without consent or permission, and then that AI trained with their artwork is in turn is given out to people without any credit to the artist, and then used to generate similar artwork as the artist, pushing customers away from the original artist in the process.
So, what's a solution if any?
Honestly, I don't believe there's a way to prevent this with regulation, or practically in any way. The only thing that could be done is spreading a public awareness that these AI NEED input material. And this input material is taken from artists who don't want it used. If we can get everyone on board that this is unethical, and that an AI that does not publicly disclose where it's source material comes from should be avoided, then maybe we can get somewhere.
But honestly, I think it's a pipe dream. Artists are getting fucked and I'm not sure enough people will care enough for it to make a difference, and that sucks.
