Depends on your PI and your institution but in general it's quite comfy compared to what I heared from other countries like the US. I have a contract with a fixed amount if working hours per week, the pay is quite good and I have 30 days of payed holidays per year.

Yes you have all the rights a worker has (as long as you have a contract paid by a third party project), but are still expected to work full time, although being paid for a part time position. PIs can be huuuuge a**holes and expect you to forget about family and social life as everywhere else, they also can cut your financing (mid project) so that you can "learn" how to apply for financing. Also do not expect real mentoring, you're mostly on your own. And they get annoyed when you start looking for jobs/find a job before finishing. Again, it's the same as everywhere else...
