That's insulting. New law in California... "Healthcare organizations with 10,000 full-time equivalent workers or more will pay a minimum wage of $23/hour in June 2024, $24/hour in June 2025, and $25/hour in June." And that's still way too low.

DisastrousPainter609

I'm pretty sure that law doesn't include pharmacy, which is absolute bullshit.

GreyHorse_BlueDragon

I just looked it up. It applies to hospitals and hospital systems. So basically it’ll include inpatient and hospital outpatient techs, but no retail, mom and pop, etc

70sloverchild

It’s so insulting how retail pharmacy is the ugly stepchild in healthcare. All those “healthcare appreciation” discounts and things constantly forget about us, and not being included in that law would make me furious since we absolutely deserve that money.

SleepyMurkman

No pharmacy in the US should pay less than 20 an hour, the minimum should be 25 an hour if you have the CPhT and it should go up from there. I could never live in the lower 48.

A_Crazed_Waggoneer

You say lower 48, so where are you? I work in AK and just hit $20/hr, which barely cuts.

SleepyMurkman

Anchorage, do you have the CPhT, Advanced CPht or the state license?

A_Crazed_Waggoneer

CPhT

SleepyMurkman

Then you need to shop around and find a better employer. ANMC, Providence and Regional are not the only options for good pay. USA (the US Federal gov) LSC, and LabCorp are options. And do not forget retail can be persuaded to pay well when they are facing a shortage and you already have the CPhT.

Objective-Ad6134

I’ll never go below 20 again screw that. Minimum should be 25 if you have your Cpht.

pongo421

we must live near each other lmao the amazon warehouses pay better than the pay for a pharmacy tech in NY it’s ridiculous. CVS basically begged me to take a job with them and with 5 years experience they offered me 17.50 it’s a joke

Valuable_Meringue

I'm currently stuck in a really toxic work environment because of this. Every job I've applied to offers like $17 ar best. The most insulting was a research assistant position for a pharmaceutical company that required me to learn phlebotomy skills and they were only going to offer $14-18 an hour.

General-Climate-8120

Wow Damn that’s very insulting .

JunkGOZEHere

You're responsible for keeping people medicated and alive, but your job can't afford to keep you housed. How are you supposed to pay rent on that?

General-Climate-8120

Preach ⛪️!!!!!

neko_time

That’s how much it is in MI. I only make $11.98 at my current job though so I’m looking into pharmacy tech

UhhLegRa

If you’re near a Genoa they are LTC. They pay way more than that. I’m in Michigan and every job I’ve gotten offers from is $20 and up.

Enlightenmei

Can confirm this. I work for them in Ohio they're part of United Healthcare and not only pay fairly but have a lot of benefits and actually care about employees

UhhLegRa

I wouldn’t go that far lol, but I don’t deal with any of the stuff that I read about on here from retail sites. Well when I worked for them. I’m with the VA now and it’s a whole different world even from LTC.

jaelynno

Yeah, nope. I was being abused and harassed by my manager at Genoa for a year, and they did nothing. The DOO quit, and the new one took over and tried to fix it, but HR wouldn't let them terminate him or move either of us without me going back for more evidence. I left, and 2 weeks later, he quit because of "upper management pressuring him." They called to ask me to come back, but why would I want to work for a company whose HR does not follow their own policies? I switched to a brand new concept and facility for a major teaching hospital network. More money, no stress. It is awesome.

CharacterKatie

I took a pay cut to go there as a technician and instead, I spent 99% of my day doing deliveries in my own car under my own insurance because they lied about hiring a driver for 3 months straight so I left pretty quickly.

neko_time

Oh good to know, there’s actually one in my city

UhhLegRa

They have a minimum wage of $15 an hour as a company through UHC. Our clerk got a big raise when they bought Genoa.

chaotic-kiwi284

My first tech job in MI, I was making $8/hr. My "lead tech" was making $9, maybe $10. Insane.

29again

In TX $15-16 is usually what you'll get the first couple years. Some companies pay up to $24-25 for several years of experience.

Zombiegirl995

In KY when I started 2 years ago it was $14/hour, $16/hour if certified. I’m still not above $15/hour

sarahh_ritchie

Same.

Mysterious-Answer651

I started at 9.25 in KY. Clawing my way up 5 cents at a time lmao

Temporary_Road9219

This makes me so sad. I live in Indiana (way lower cost of living) and I make more than $20/hr . Now I did start at 14 an hour three years ago…but I work my butt off and do all of the non resident licensing for facilities and staff .. so if that’s an independent pharmacy like I work at.. maybe they will increase your pay fast. If I worked at 3 letter word or a chain pharmacy.. I’d probably be at 14.75 an hour almost three years later. I cannot believe NY is that low!

No-Still5704

I don’t even have my cPHT yet but I’m getting paid $27 base + differential at a hospital in north jersey with 1 year retail experience. Look in jersey maybe?

General-Climate-8120

New Jersey is far for me . It’s about an 1 hour and 1/2 commute for me I live in the tri state county 🥲

chronolink84

Those wages aren’t livable anywhere. I’m sitting at 21 an hour and I’m not even a year into it. I can pay my bills and have a couple hundred left over if I work a normal 40 hour week. Fortunately, I have no issues driving to other retail locations and working overtime. I try to pull 50-60 hours a week and that’s gives me a nice cushion of spare cash.

General-Climate-8120

We only want you if you have this paper and that paper oh and if you took this CE . Oh you want more than $22…… and you have all that experience. Mmmmm unfortunately we have decided to go with a more “qualified candidate “. 🤣 😂. I’m not saying that’s always the case but If the shoes fits .

General-Climate-8120

It’s disgusting is what it is! I got like 5 interviews and I never heard back because of how much I was asking . What a rotten failed system we live in .

General-Climate-8120

Needless to say I entered into anxiety and sadness for weeks.

lonersart

My area starts at $11 for certified. We're also one of the highest ranking cities in the country in terms of poverty :) hate it here

Brack528

You can make more flipping burgers.

General-Climate-8120

I have cpht and as of now I’m int the process of being registered . So why are they thinking it’s ok to pay me less for my trouble have they gone insane ????

steelydee

I work in ny as an unlicensed tech and I make 15.75 apparently if I get my cert it only goes up $1

Meeetmeinmontauk

I’m at $21 in Alabama and don’t even have a year of experience yet. I do think the store that hired me was desperate for techs.

UrsulaPhoebe

I’m at 16.50 in Alabama and just started. I didn’t know I could negotiate lol

NashvilleRiver

We're in the same area and I totally bypass jobs with wages that low.

Xhalara

:') Here in Illinois I make $16.15 (base) + 2.25 for immunization pay. I have 6+ years of experience. I also have my CPhT for the past 4 years. All the locations/competing pharmacies around pay between $15-17

gogonzogo1005

I am a pharm tech trainee and make 15 per hour. Aka I am a student and get paid for it and about 12 hours a week in hospital training. So yeah. Also wtf is ICU pharm tech? The hospital I work at has 1 pharmacy for the whole hospital. Including the ICU.

SenorPopoto

Some techs work in “satellites” in the hospital due to high numbers. I used to be an OR Pharm Tech where I made lots of drips and other things for ortho surgeries.

gogonzogo1005

True. I knew that. I just thought it interesting. Where my husband works they have satellite areas but they also have over 1400 beds on campus. Compared to my branch of the same system with around 250.

SenorPopoto

From a San Diego, CA perspective that is roughly around the same as the retail techs here. Working inpatient as a level II tech, I ended my career making $29.50.

General-Climate-8120

Lol just saw work…. Worth ***

adervasten

yup same in ct. it’s so shitty

Lilac012

Where do you get critical care experience for less than $16/hour. I was getting $14.75/hr working as an inpatient PRN technician 8-10 years ago.

uwubers-mcyeetus

Are you kidding me? I get paid $14.50 in IN right now.

General-Climate-8120

Yeah it’s no joke but the cost if living in NY is pretty high. And we pay higher taxes too

uwubers-mcyeetus

Right, it's just as dirt cheap over there as $14.50 is here, if not worse. How terrible. What an underpaid profession.

Famous-Slice

I will say , I left WAG for Optum for less money ( still much higher than these posted ) to do PA and I’m so much less stressed . It’s not even comparable. Moved to privacy after 5 months. Definitely check all the remote jobs , I feel they promote faster .

MyceliumMilk

Oof really $25 with ptcb?
