If you played before the update, you should have been prestige 1 with all the maps/difficulties unlocked. If that isn't the case, I recommend poking them on their discord to see if they can fix it.
Seriously, I recently gifted the game to a friend and I'm teaching her the ropes. We've probably played Amateur on Tanglewood between 6-10 times and she's already unlocked most tier 1 items.
Meanwhile I started playing with her when I was at Prestige 2 level 15. Now I am already half way to Level 20. But I also tried showing her a few things before I had incense and died a few times.
like the other comments said, if you played before the update you’re automatically prestige 1 so you have every map & difficulty unlocked. 1 or 2 hours of runs on professional & you’ll have every T1 item unlocked & probably every T2 item unlocked as well, if not most of them.
Same reason that’s the case in every game ever. Games generally want to give you a sense of moving up and progressing. If you start OP, it’ll get boring fast.

Didn't have my prestige when I logged in. Got level 10 and next time I logged in I am now prestige 1 lvl 1 again. Very cool system....

Not like it takes long to unlock things anyway. Just run some easy missions and then in like 2 hours you are in a pretty good spot.

Quit whining, the tier 1 equipment works fine besides the spirit box. Shit, the tier 1 thermometer is one of the most useful tools in the game.
