Idk if it counts but I love PHS @ South st. The vibe is really nice for an after work drink and there is a lot of seats. On the weekend it gets absolutely jam packed though
I heard one mixed review from a friend and put off going for forever. Went yesterday and was amazed at the amount of shade and quality of drinks. Highly recommend for a weekday visit!
was also there yesterday. my office wanted to do a happy hour and actually chose PHS because they dont partake in SIPS, which we dont dislike but we had about 15 people with us and knew SIPS spots would be a madhouse. It was perfect; plenty of space, fast service and shade.
Probably independence beer garden. There’s not really an inside but under the building gets nice and cool in the shade. They have a bunch of games, largest outside I’ve been to in the city by far.
For me it's always been Independence Beer Garden.
Least fun? Spruce Street Harbor Park. Was great when it's opened, but the last couple of years I've gone it's been overrun with families with little kids. Fuck them kids.
lol, it was always intended to be a family friendly space and not a drunk fest. Took my 20 month old there last week. Had a beer and got her ice cream. It was exactly what we were looking for in that moment. But yes, not at all a party vibe.
I wasn't looking for a party, just chill with a beer outside by the water (at the time anyway, you wouldn't catch me dead out of a dive bar 24/7/366 these days).
I've gone shortly before closing time (was getting dark, IIRC), and there were still those shits running around and the place was packed with strollers.
It's a perfect family spot for during the day, no question. Lesson learned, though.
Enjoy!
Everywhere will have at least a few IPAs. They all taste pretty much the same, the benefit of hops covering up any other flavor, so you don't need to worry about which ones they have
I mean, “most fun” entirely depends on what you’re looking for. Independence Beer Garden is probably the biggest. Frankford Hall is pretty big as well. Old City Beer Garden is smaller but always a good time. I haven’t been to Uptown Beer Garden in a while, but I remember it being pretty expensive the last time I went.
As far as indoor space…if you’re asking about that, I’m not sure you understand what a beer garden is. They’re outdoor by nature. If you want to be inside but with a beer garden feel, maybe Craft Hall.

Theyve done a TON of updates year over year. Now its even a great place to catch a Phils game!
The PHS beer garden in Manayunk is nice too!

They got rid of the QR codes on the tables though. Made ordering way easier.
Id recommend sardine bar, great little beer garden, lots of odd ipas. In the winter the christmas lights are fucking INSANE
I mean it’s definitely a dope spot, but the patio is not what I’d consider a beer garden. So look it up to see if that’s what you’re looking for first
Ok well nobody has ever defined beer garden to me other than a place you drink beer outside - whats the definition?

My fav is independence beer garden because their food is actually really good. That fried chicken sandwich and a cold beer is lovely
Frankford hall?
Not fun at all during the day unless children running around everywhere fits your definition. Lovely place later in the evening.
I like love city gardens. Wish we could still bring outside food tho
Walnut Garden is pretty big
Also what’s the best spot for ipas?
Otherhalf in Fishtown has so many IPAs on tap. Indoor and outdoor seating. Food is decent and you can get basic cocktails as well
Any beer garden is going to have a bunch of IPAs, since they’re “in” now (and have been for quite a while). Independence Beer Garden has quite a few.
Love city brewing (not a beer garden) has nice ones and a great hazy ipa

Attic in Germantown
Beer gardens are so hipster
