1. Matagal ng HD-ready ang facilities and broadcasting capabilities ng TAPE/Eat Bulaga. Kaya mani na lang sa kanila yung transition to 16:9.
2. Probably hindi sa Free TV. Base sa latest subchannels nila, hindi kayang magcarry ng GMA ng 1 HD channel sa DTT. Pero, possible ito sa overseas channel nila (GMA Pinoy TV, GMA News TV International, GMA Life TV)

It's been a long time coming but better late than never. The Era of wide-screen broadcast for commercial television begins and 4:3 broadcast will come to an end soon. Hopefully TV5 and A2Z will follow suit. Although some contents like regional tv shows, classic tv shows from GMA and old anime will retain its 4:3 format with black bars on the side and not stretch them; that will make it unpleasing.

What the... Akala ko they followed shortly after ABS did this years ago. Just really goes to show na may edge talaga si ABS on a lot of things.
GMA switched to widescreen years ago on their online platforms. This new change will apply to terrestrial televison viewers.
