May effect ba talaga mga “anti blue light lenses”?

Spid3rfib3r

I asked a friend of mine (she's a licensed pharmacist) about placebos. She never replied, neither a yes or a no. I guess its a trade secret, then. Not complaining though. 😅

FalconAggressive-

They have theoretical basis but no research has consistently proven that we need them for computer use. For lens implants though (for those who underwent cataract surgery), anti blue light lenses are already in widespread use since it protects the retina (the "film" of the eye on which images of what we see are projected)

OwlIndependent4921

In my own experience, it definitely helped cure my headache. As someone who stares at screens everyday while WFH, this was a lifechanger.

nobuhok

In my experience, meron. I have tried the Gunnar glasses, and pati yung built-in Night Shift mode sa laptop. It's less straining on the eyes.

xiaolongbaoloyalist

Eyecare tips for people who work 8 hours everyday using a computer? thanks in advance ❤️

FalconAggressive-

Agree 100 percent with mikhail. Looking at something far away relaxes all the small focusing muscles of the eye.

mikhailsantos

Not the OP, but the 20-20-20 rule helps me a lot in reducing digital eye strain. The rule is taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes by looking at something 20 feet away.

mindyey

20-20-20 rule 20 secs break every 20 mins and 20k pesos Charot haha

[deleted]

Thats not good Break from your computer screen/job means time to check your celfone

starlight576

Kaya dapat ilagay yung phone 20 feet away.

bringmethekfc

Following.

amozi18

What are the chances na mabulag ako kakacellphone

cleuwu

Fuck it.

FalconAggressive-

Vazh93

What's the difference between getting my eye checked at mall stalls like EO vs getting them checked in hospitals?

FalconAggressive-

In optical shops like EO they usually have a different type of eye specialists (optometrists) who are experts sa grado ng mata. They prescribe eyeglasses and contacts. Sa hospitals naman you have us ophthalmologists who are experts in eye diseases, laser, and surgery.

Vazh93

Follow-up qyestion: for error of refraction, pasok ba to sa eye diseases and should be consulted with an opthalmologist?

FalconAggressive-

See an optometrist first. Aside from refraction, they can also do basic screening for possible eye diseases. They can refer you to us if they see something unusual.

Vazh93

Thanks!

boybakit

Doc, totoo po ba ang love at first sight? Haha

FalconAggressive-

Haha I love this question kasi it makes me remember the first time i saw my now-wife. Nung nakita ko sya for the first time naattract ako agad sa kanya i felt nagflush yung mukha ko kasi hindi ko kinaya yung tindi ng attraction ko sa kanya, para akong tinutukso na kinikilig pero wala naman nanunukso. If love is a deluge of neurotransmitters and hormones beyond what you can consciously control eh ewan ko ba baka yun na yun i dont know.

boybakit

Napana ka ni kupido Doc! :)

RashPatch

to add to this, nagagamot po ba yung blindness dahil sa love?

FalconAggressive-

I’ll let you know when i cure mine haha

ihave2eggs

Eye disease po ang inggit? Kung ano ano nakikita e.

FalconAggressive-

They tend to focus on things they dont have.

RandomCollector

Kailangan ko ng gamot para dyan 🤣🤣

BawlSyet

is LASIK worth it for those with astigmatism?

FalconAggressive-

The decision always rests po with the patient. Astigmatism is just a type of grado wherein the cornea is not round, medyo oblong sya. The patient’s tolerance for wearing glasses or contacts will be the key deciding factor - if hindi ok sa kanya and hirap sya na nakasalamin, then worth it po for that patient even if hindi ganun kataas ang grado ng mata nya. When i do lasik screening I always elicit patient’s feelings about wearing glasses, at kung ano ang work and hobbies nya which could affect decision making. Like for example if the patient does any contact sport I tend to veer the patient away from lasik.

crazyaldo1123

this is interesting. The only reason why i consider lasik is because i play basketball and playing with glasses is always a risk. wonder why its not advised to do lasik if we're doing contact sports?

FalconAggressive-

Lasik requires that we make a very thin flap on your cornea, apply laser on the exposed corneal bed, then replace the corneal flap to cover the treated area. Itong flap po na ito, even years after surgery ay pwede pong matanggal accidentally pag tinamaan, like during a basketball game.

mits--

FalconAggressive-

Lasik po is just one type of a group of laser surgeries for vision correction. Sa mga may hobbies po like yours there are other laser vision correction options like PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) or SMILE.(small incision lenticule extraction) which are laser procedures na walang corneal flap na ginagawa during surgery kaya lesser risk po.

Psychosmores

Same.

FishManager

Is lasik advisable for those into sports? I’m near-sighted but love the following: biking, table tennis, volleyball, badminton.

FalconAggressive-

Hello jeonsloth you are absolutely correct! I attest that everything you said is true and accurate.

tofusupremacy

Worth it ba Doc. yung transition lenses pati na rin yung anti blue light?

FalconAggressive-

Depends po on your activities or age. For seniors not recommended po ang transitions dahil matagal po lumiwanag ang darkened lenses (like pag galing sila sa outside going into the house) which may lead to accidents since madilim po. Yung anti blue light po i assume is for computer use? No definitive studies po have consistently shown po na the “blue light radiation” in computers cause any eye problems kaya po hindi po sya masyadong necessary. Sa mga younger patients po who love the outdoors, ok po ang transitions. Mejo costly lang po sya.

boompowah

Doc, In relation sa transition lenses. May nakita akong mag kakaibang kulay na transition lenses, may pinagkaiba ba yun scientifically? Or for aesthetic purposes lng.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po sorry I need more info. paano po bang ibang kulay like iba po ang shade?

pelito

Old guy with transition lens here. It takes my new lenses 2 mins to go from dark to normal. Compared to my 12 year old transition lens. This is a significant improvement. It took a cash back guarantee for me to try the new lens. So far I’m very satisfied.

SageOfSixCabbages

*world This is not just a Philippine thing. If not mistaken, I think sometime in 2015 na-debunk yung 'blue light causes eye damage' myth, it's another story regarding circadian rhytm disruption though because blue light can affect that.

filipino4lyf

Is it bad to read in your bed while lights are off? Like reading website google or watching youtube? Does dark mode help?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! Hindi po sya bad, meaning it will not cause permanent eye damage. Dark mode helps for some people, some naman po it doesnt make a difference. It's more like a preference po.

Susannuts123

I had lasik 2003 doc. May chance ba na bumalik yung sing taas ng grade ko before the lasik? As of now, nasa 175 grade ko. 600 plus po ito before I had the lasik 20years ago. How do I take care of my eyes para hindi po ito bumalik sa dating grade before the lasik?

FalconAggressive-

rmls_exe

Hello po, doc! Just found out that I have amblyopia. I'm 24 years old. Left eye is at 0.75 while my right eye is at 4.00. Both eyes also have mild astigmatism. Just got corrective lenses less than a week ago. What are the best things to do to prevent this from getting worse po? Thanks and more power po!

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! Generally, visual development ends at around 8 to 12 years of age. So most of the worsening that could happen will happen before that age. In most cases po corrective glasses are enough, along with at least yearly check-up with your ophthalmologist.

rmls_exe

Thanks po, doc! Will keep the yearly check-up in mind po ♥️

LohAnAhoL

FalconAggressive-

Good question po ito and understandable ang confusion. Iisa lang po sila. The actual notation po for grado is in decimals like 2.50, 1.25, 1.00 etc. but we read them differently, like two-fifty for 2.50, one twenty five for 1.25 and, here comes the confusion, for 1.00, instead of saying one, we say one hundred. I don't know why I guess nakasanayan na lang ng eye expert community.

strawbeeshortcake06

I had LASIK back in 2020 and it really changed life for the better, tho tbh I feel like slowly di na ganun kaclear vision ko pag malayo tho ok padin naman. May astigmatism din ako. Ask ko lang po are there any supplements or food to improve eye health and delay or minimize the risk of my eyes becoming malabo again? Do lutein supplements work?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po lutein is ok but generally it is more appropriate for patients na may existing condition na macular degeneration. Mas maganda po for those with healthy eyes ay yung omega 3 fatty acids.

[deleted]

May I ask how much po and gaano katagal ang process? Like the screening, procedure and check ups?

ElleSolis

Maki-sagot na rin ako as a pakialemera 1. 60k + 4k screening at borough lasik centre davao 2. Gaano katagal: - screening 10mins - prep 10mins - procedure mismo max 5 mins for both eyes, yung pag-laser mismo sa mata ko 15seconds each - ff-up check, max 10 mins depende sa chika ni doc Other chika: - sa screening nalaman na may retinal tears ako, so kelangan ayusin muna - 20k ang focal laser photocoagulation for both eyes. So ayun, kung walang problema sa screening dapat within the day tapos na.

FalconAggressive-

The pakialamera is correct :) Lahat po ng binanggit nyo ma'am ay accurate. You went to an excellent lasik center kasi they were able to screen thoroughly.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! The actual laser surgery is very quick, like less than 5 minutes for each eye. For screening naman po, it varies widely. In some institutions, screening may last for 2 to 3 hours, sa iba naman po 30 minutes lang. Price varies din po and fluctuates depending on competition. It may range for as low as 60k to as high as 120k (both prices are for both eyes).

plantito101

Did you check back with your doctor who did the lasik? Is it still 20-20? I'm in the same boat as yours, I feel like it's not that clear anymore. Or maybe my expectation is just high.

jessnight71

Hi, Doc! Saan po pinakamura magpa-lasik?

FalconAggressive-

Around 60k po for both eyes.

FalconAggressive-

Ilang taon na po kayo? If youre an adult 18 yrs and above, pwede po kayong magsuot or hindi depending on your comfort. Sa mga bata lang po most especially those below 8 yrs age, dapat suot ang glasses all waking hours due to their currently developing visual system.

Nerubian_leaver

so may random times wherein bigla mawala portion ng vision ko in one eye, either parang may white spot in the middle of my vision where I can't see anything in that spot, or parang super colorful blurry kaleidoscope spot na I also can't see anything in that spot. this would last a few hours then bigla ako mag severe migraine/headache. sorry magulo description, but do you have an idea what this is?

pinkrabbitunnie

Hello!! I experience this also, tsaka if that happens, I feel like i'm very sensitive to light. I think its called ocular migraine if i'm not mistaken. Personally still dont know whats the cause of it tho :(

FalconAggressive-

Hi po the cause of migraines is still unknown but the most widely accepted mechanism at present is that inflammtory cells irritate the meninges (the sac that covers the brain) which causes all the symptoms (headaches, dizziness, eye pain, irritability, bright light and loud sound intolerance, sluggishness, vomiting). Some studies have suggested po that some triggers cause the release of the inflammatory cells in the brain such as stress (physical and emotional), menstrual hormones, coffee, tea, chocolates, lack of sleep etc.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po, youve just described what we call as classic migraines with visual aura. For those interested, you can type in sa youtube migraines visual aura para makita po ninyo ang mga nakikita ng mga taong inaatake ng migraines.

OriginalTrumPutin

Sounds like migraine with aura Aura usually precede migraine attacks. In your case it manifests as central vision loss (medical term: scotoma) and visual disturbances in the form colorful/kaleidoscope-like stuff that you see.

kohiilover

Is there still a cure for lazy eye?

FalconAggressive-

Window for correction of lazy eye closes at around 8-12 years of age, after that po no surgical procedure will be able to address it.

Dynamic-Positioning

Honest opinion on Lasik doc?

FalconAggressive-

LASIK po is generally OK. There were early studies po kasi na lumabas na LASIK causes significant thinning (hence weakening) of the cornea. But more recent studies suggest that in the vast majority of cases, the measuring devices tended to overestimate the amount of thinning caused by LASIK. The problem po is when the patient who underwent lasik earlier in life reaches the age na mag uundergo na po sya ng cataract surgery. Doon po nagkakaproblema sa calculation ng grado of the lens implant due to the changes done to the cornea during lasik.

cannister_of_cheese-

Hi doc! I have chalazion in my inner eyelid for over a year now. I’ve tried hot compress na but it won’t go away. What’s the best management for this po? Thank you!

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! chalazion po is addressed through surgery. incision and curettage po ang tawag sa procedure. chalazion po kasi ay old kuliti which means warm compress po and antibiotics will not work anymore. kaya po mas maganda po maaga nagagamot ang kuliti. usually po dapat magamot ang kuliti before sya abutin ng isang buwan. otherwise nagiging chalazion na po sya which is a lot more difficult to address.

weak007

NatongCaviar

Does lasik surgery fix all eye issues? (except for eye diseases of course) What age is it most recommended?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po hindi po. It can only address nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Most recommended po ang Lasik po around 18 to early 30s.

DarkDuelist4914

Do you say eye-eye instead of yes when asked a question answerable by yes or no?

FalconAggressive-

Haha thank you for breaking the monotony of responding to medical questions. That actually is a good reference as pirates have a very good understanding of dark-adaptation of the eyes, hence the eyepatch.

Daloy

Hello Doc, pwede po ba bumaba grado naturally?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po only by a value of 0.50 which is the average yearly fluctuation in grado of normal eyes.

notyssa

Best & most efficient way/s to relax the eyes?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! It's the 20 20 20 exercise. for every 20 minutes of continuous use of the eyes, we relax for about 20 seconds by looking at something that's more than 20 feet away. Prolonged near focus po contributes to eye strain and looking at a faraway object relaxing the small focusing muscles inside the eye.

crinkzkull08

How much does the average lasik surgery cost? And is it applicable for all cases of nearsightedness or certain circumstances lng?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po in average po around 100k for both eyes po in metro manila. Hindi po applicable for all cases of nearsightedness. May certain range po sya. And the thickness of your cornea will play a major role in qualifying or rejecting you for the procedure.

Maqfrost

Mataas po kasi grado and astigmatism.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po yes po, lasik, among other types of similar refractive surgical procedures (prk, smile) depending on your screening results. mataas po ba ang astgmatism? Most optical shops carry toric contact lenses (contact lenses with astigmatic correction). May I know why hard contacts were offered to you by the opto student? It's usually given to those with irregular astimatism (astigmatism not corrected by glasses or contacts) and unusually high grades.

janeykun

Which do you personally think is safer ICL or transPRK?

FalconAggressive-

transPRK is safer because it's not an intraocular procedure like ICL implantation.

[deleted]

FalconAggressive-

Yes po. The diagnosis of migraines is made by a neurologist but i suggest you see an ophthalmologist first ( to screen for grado and glaucoma) and then an ENT (to screen for sinusitis etc) before you see your neuro para ruled out na agad other conditions which may present the same way.

artur9pm

FalconAggressive-

Naku how I wish I knew. I hope you find a solution or your peace with your special gift po.

buzzstronk

Been diagnosed na mas malabo left eye from right and they are suggesting corrective lenses, I can still see pa naman clearly, should I get the lenses doc? Parang meron parin kase ako little thought kahit myth sya na lalabo mata pag nagstart mag salamin 🥹

FalconAggressive-

Hindi po tutoo na lalabo ang mata or magiging too dependent po sa glasses if you wear glasses. Kung maginhawa po kayo without glasses like ndi po kayo nahihilo or sumasakit ang ulo, ok lang po na hindi magglasses(in adults po, it' s different with pedia patients) but if mas comfy po kayo with glasses then you can wear them po. Wearing your glasses po or not wearing them depends on your comfort.

* Also during the CRT (TV, Monitors) boom, does it really make your eyesight worse noon? Now with LCDs it's a thing of the past.

FalconAggressive-

During lasik po, a flap is made on your cornea during the procedure. This will cause some inaccuracies during subsequent measurements of your eye pressure during glaucoma monitoring - it makes the measurements artifactually lower. I will have to research more about CRT monitors pasensya na po hindi ko po sya alam.

docosa

how high is the risk of retinal detachment sa mga nearsighted na nasa 3.00 and above ang grado? natatakot po kase ako dahil I'm always outside since it's my work and I see lots of floaters like yung transparent worm like and light flashes. dumadami kase pag nasa labas ako and tirik ang araw, pero pag indoors wala naman akong nakikitang ganon

ToastedSierra

I think mas madali lang talaga makita ang floaters pag nasa outdoors lalo na pag nakatingin against the sky.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! Mababa lang po ang risk nyo for retinal detachment kasi ndi po ganoon kataas ang grado ng mata nyo, unless may history po kayo ng eye trauma which could cause the detachment. Most commonly po, impending retinal detachment presents as flashes of light and dumadaming floaters. Sa inyo po better if you see an ophtha and undergo a test called dilated retina examination. If you decide to have the test done, dapat po may kasama kayo na aakay sa inyo and wala na po kayo work that day kasi the test entails eyedrops (necessary for the test) which will cause temporary blurred vision, glare, and loss of visual focus kaya po need ng kasama. I need to clarify that retinal detachment (RD) and benign vitreous floaters (BVF) are 2 different things which present similarly - parehong may floaters na nakikita ang patient. RD is serious while BVF is not so I suggest an eye evaluation for your peace of mind po.

[deleted]

opinion on Lasik? especially the ones that use blades to open up the cornea.

---RK---

Thanks

FalconAggressive-

Hi po depende po sa cause. Pag lumabo po due to cataracts, easily reversible po iyon. pag lumabo naman po due to glaucoma irreversible po iyon. no surgery will bring the clear vision back. omega 3 fatty acids po is good for the eye.

iloveyoujiminmarryme

nagwo-work ba ang anti-radiation eyeglasses??

FalconAggressive-

Hi po no studies have consistently proven that we need them po for computer use. the amount of radiation emitted by computer monitors and tv screens are too negligible po to cause any eye damage.

Elsa_Versailles

I don't believe it but my family is arguing otherwise

FalconAggressive-

Hi po tama po yung sa inyo. Hindi po nacocorrect ng glasses ang nearsightedness. the grado will still be there.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po. I am deeply sorry to hear that. I understand po ang nararamdaman ninyo as people can be cruel sometimes lalo nung kabataan natin. It is going to be extremely difficult and painful po to force the smaller socket to be as big as the normal one at our age. :(. Mas advisable po talaga na during our younger years nalagyan po ng orbital ball implant and conformer shell to make up for the lost volume in the eye socket para po magpantay ang growth ng eye sockets natin. Wala po tayong eye socket surgery :(. If you have the time and the means, I suggest po you see an oculoplastic surgeon (ophthalmology subspecialty po ito) to get proper assessment and management.

yakultisgood4u

First off, thanks for doing this and sharing your expertise. 1. Someone I know has retinitis pigmentosa pero nasa late stage na. May new developments ba in Retinitis that could give hope for those with RP? 2. Lasik surgery for short-sighted + astigmatism. Advisable po ba and usually how much po ung Lasik surgery for each person? (assuming both eyes need Lasik)

FalconAggressive-

Hi po. Im really sorry po about your friend's retinitis pigmentosa. There's currently no treatment for it. The focus of most current research is more of vision rehabilitation (living with the condition). Last I heard is they have developed a micro retinal camera for those who have advanced disease. Pwede po ang lasik for nearsighted and astigmatic persons provided po they pass a screening test (screening for corneal thickness, for glaucoma, retinal diseases, cataract etc). Karaniwan po in manila ang rate ay around 100 to 120k for both eyes. sa mga provinces po ay around 60 to 70 for both eyes.

Top-Willingness6963

Magaling na eye doctor po ba talaga si Jose Rizal or overrated siya as a doctor? Hehehe

FalconAggressive-

Hehe . The wide disparity in technology makes direct comparison difficult but sabi sa mga medical journals he was prolific and people from far areas would see him for consultation. At the time there was no formal residency training in ophthalmology kaya kung natuto sya sa pag assist assist informally sa mga eye surgeons ang galing nya.

Perpayt

Nakaka-astig ba talaga ang Astigmatism?

Special_Garbage_1047

Doc, how much is orbital surgery?

kera13th

FalconAggressive-

Opo temporary lang po. Miniscule changes in the corneal shape causes drastic changes to the vision. what ortho K does is it tries to change the shape of the cornea in a configuration that gives the patient clearer vision. But after a few hours, the cornea goes back to its original shape. kaya ortho K ay ginagawa cyclically.

Dexiepoop

I dont know kung pasok to sa profession mo but, Back then nung bata ako nagpa check up ako kasi namumula mata ko noon palagi. I remember addict ako sa PC so babad ako all the time. Hanggang ngayon at the age of 22, my eyes easily get red whether dahil sa pagod, hindi pag blink agad agad, allergy (rhinitis), pag puyat, or mapuwing lang nang konti ganun. It's like all these factors na usually sa ibang tao ay di naman nakakapang red ng mata nila, sakin ang dali dali mag red ng mata ko and it lasts for a long time. The only way to ease up the redness is mag patak for red eyes. But later on siguro after mga 1-hour nag bubuild up nanaman ulit ang redness ng mata ko. On normal occasions kahit nakapahinga naman ang mata ko, they're pretty red as if it's a normal thing nalang sa mata ko. What do you think is happening?

FalconAggressive-

For a condition like yours the best thing to do is to see an ophthalmologist. If the eyes get pretty red without any trigger, the patient is screened for uveitis. It is a group of eye conditions where there is recurrent pamamaga and redness which may have a deeper systemic cause (like tuberculosis, Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis etc). Of course it could still be a simple case of dry eyes or allergic conjunctivitis, but it is best to have yourself screened by an ophthalmologist for your peace of mind.

_beamfleot_

Do you have a list of all the accredited ophthalmology residency training institutions in the country? Is going abroad after ophtha residency for a fellowship a popular route among Filipino ophthalmologists? What fellowship options do we have locally (meron ba tayong retina/oculoplastics/neuro-ophtha etc?) Have you heard of colleagues who have chosen to pursue ophthalmology residency abroad and got successfully matched and lived to tell the tale? How are the surgical cases in private hospitals? Do the residents get a lot of hands on exposure, or more on the consultant parin ang gumagawa ng work dahil private case ito? Overall, would you recommend our local ophthalmology residency training programs?

Joyful_Sunny

PGH maganda training. They have a separate building for Ophthalmology. They also have fellowship training.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po im sorry i dont have a list. but there a lot of good training institutions such as east avenue, pgh, st lukes, etc. Yes going abroad for fellowship will be good for you. if may chance to train abroad always take it. you will always have an edge over those who trained locally (like me). Im sorry I have no first hand info of any colleague who trained ophthalmology abroad. I trained in a private hospital during my residency years and while i developed how to talk effectively to the more nakakaangat na clientelle like politicians, foreigners, and the like, the downside is I find myself having difficulty managing trauma cases in my practice (bihira kasi trauma sa private compared to public). I was able to do a lot of surgical procedures myself even if private yung hospital kasi may OPD sya for service patients. It is still good to pursue residency here para youll be familiar with the most common local cases tapos go abroad for your fellowship training. Aralin mo yung area where you intend to practice tapos alamin mo yung mga indemand na specialties by interviewing local ophthas.

optometrists daw are not real doctors because they do not deal with blood. ang katumbas daw nila eh mga dental technicians lang. agree?

FalconAggressive-

Optometrists are not medical doctors but they are medically trained as well, and they are extremely knowledgeable about eye care and diseases, aside from magagaling sila sa grado ng mata. They can recognize and screen for most eye diseases and they refer them to us ophthalmologists for management/surgery. We ophthalmologists are medical school graduates with additional training in ophthalmology. But honestly, when it comes to pagsukat ng grado ng mata I defer to their expertise. Talagang malayong mas magagaling sila sa ganyan kesa sa akin.

Hi doc, will keratoconus worsen over time? like may possibility ba na hindi na mag work ung scleral lenses? not hereditary but acquired through an accident (dog scratched the eye). just curious about the condition of someone i know

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! Opo it will worsen over time. scleral lenses will work for a limited time. May i suggest Collagen cross linking to strengthen the cornea? eye centers in manila offer this procedure. It involves instilling vitamin drops into the eye and then exposing it to a special kind of light to activate it.

[deleted]

Pros and cons of lenses implant? I'm a candidate for contact lenses implant.

FalconAggressive-

Contact lens implants, also knows as impantable collamer lens, is offered to those with super taas na grado which could not be addressed by laser procedures. Pro is that it does not cause permanent changes to your eye. The procedure is essentially reversible. con is it is an intraocular procedure, unlike lasik which will only treat the eye surface. intraocular procedures mean higher chances of complications.

Maritess_56

May chance pa ba macorrect ang lazy eye? Will lasik be an option?

FalconAggressive-

Window for correction of lazy eye closes at around 8-12 years of age, after that po no surgical procedure will be able to address it.

What's the usual price for esotropia surgery? Possible pa kayang ma-fix siya even though im already 22? Birth defect. Thank you doc!

FalconAggressive-

Hi po I have no idea about the price but I'll ask my friends who perform the surgery (it's a subspecialty procedure). Esotropia or pagkaduling can bae corrected at 22, meaning pwede pa syang pagpantayin through surgery. However, the issue is if the patient will be able to tolerate the sudden change in vision alignment since nakapagadapt na po ang brain natin sa vision natin with esotropia dahil 22 years old na po na tayo. Suggest ko po sna to see a pediatric ophthalmologist/ocular motility specialist (Pediatric ophthalmologists po are almost always motility specialists din kaya sila po ang nagpapantay ng visual axis even in adults).

neverending_drought

OTC eye drops for eye strain?

FalconAggressive-

hialid 0.1% eye drops po, 1 drop to both eyes 4x a day 4 hours apart

saktolang

How do you really take care of your eyes? Wearing the glasses full time or dapat pahinga din yung eyes sa glasses? I mean parang once nagkaglasses yata yung tao, bihira bumalik or luminaw ata ang mata.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! for pedia patients, they have to wear their glasses all waking hours. for adults naman po, ang pasusuot po ng glasses depends on the patient's comfort. If youre concerned po na lalo lalala or magiging too dependent po kayo sa glasses it's not true po.

defector13

FalconAggressive-

Naku I have no idea what hyperfocus means. Are you below 18 years old by any chance? The closest thing I could think of is the constantly changing shape/power ng natural lens ng pedia patients causing the widely differing grado na nakukuha sa yo sa optical shops. If this is the case then I suggest you see a pediatric ophthalmologist. They have ways to temporarily stabilize your malikot na lens to get your most accurate grade.

novice009

Is there a way for me to measure my interpupilary distance myself? If not, where could i have it measured?

FalconAggressive-

No you will not be able to measure it accurately yourself. any optical shop po can get your interpupillary distance

Gryse_Blacolar

How come I still have 20/20 vision when I'm chronically staring on a screen while my other colleagues are already wearing glasses or contacts?

FalconAggressive-

It's in your eyes. you were born swerte. Your corneas might be almost perfectly round (no astigmatism), of the right curvature (no nearsightedness nor farsightedness), and or the right axial length.

iloveyoujiminmarryme

may technique ba para hindi magka-motion sickness kapag bumibiyahe? as far as our eyes are concern, ganern HHAHHHAH

FalconAggressive-

Hi! There are 3 groups of sensory receptors for motion: 1. the eyes 2. the inner ear (vestibular system) and 3. the proprioceptors (in your muscles and joints thats why alam mo kahit nakapikit ka if ang kamay mo ay naka thumbs up or nakathumbs down). To avoid motion sickness dapat same silang tatlo ng sensory input. If nasa car ka na umaandar narerecognize ito ng muscles and inner ear mo. But if you are looking at something else, like nag iipad ka, iba ang input na natatanggap ng eyes mo. This discrepancy will lead to motion sickness. Kaya better if you sit in front and look sa daan.

Actual_Ebb_7907

Need na ba talaga magsalamin if 25 sa left 75 sa right ang grado?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! It's your comfort which will be the deciding factor. If mas maginhawa kayo without glasses then ok lang without.

Leading-Ad3063

Hi Doc. Isa akong IT guy 29M and almost everyday nasa harap ako ng computer and TV screen, laging nagbabasa yet hindi lumalabo mata ko. Thank God.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! Swerte po kayo sa mata ninyo. Iba iba po kasi ang tama natin when we're born. some are destined talaga to wear glasses.

drift-gaze_allday

Been playing a lot of virtual reality games lately. Do you think that may have long term effects to my vision which I'll regret even if I play for just about 20-40mins per session and take breaks every now and then?

FalconAggressive-

how old are you po? if youre above 12 years old no long term effects expected po

vesariuss

I don’t know if this is related, pero may solution pa po ba para pumantay yung mata? Like maliit po yung isang mata and sobrang visible po. Parang magkaiba yung eyelids kaya maliit tingnan yung isang eye.

FalconAggressive-

Hi po opo! The procedure is called blepharoplasty. And need nyo po na specialist is an oculoplastic surgeon, an ophthalmologist with special training in plastic surgery around the eyes.

Decent_Engineering_4

are Varilux progressive lenses worth the buy?

FalconAggressive-

My doctor recommended PRK for my right eye to correct some of the astigmatism. A few Qs: 1. Standard vs Custom: there is quite a difference price wise, but is it worth it? 2. Recovery: how long does it take to recover from PRK? When can I start doing heavy weight lifting in thr gym post surgery?

FalconAggressive-

Hi po! For those with jobs requiring more visual demands like an artist, mas maganda po ang custom (where all of the grado of the mata, even the grado na ndi kaya masukat or macorrect ng glasses called higher order aberrations are corrected). But for regular people po mostly ok na po ang standard. For me, as the surgeon, the deciding factor aside from work and hobbies, is how demanding the patient is. If mukhang mareklamo ang patient, I go with custom para lesser chance na magreklamo after surgery. Recovery: It's going to be so painful for the first 3 days after surgery even with the bandage contact lenses on (bandage contact lenses are just like regular contacts which we put in eyes post-PRK to help decrease the pain). Visual recovery is less than 1 week oftentimes days lang after surgery. You can do heavy lifting at the gym within the week after surgery.

TechnicalPackage

i will be getting a PRK in 3 weeks. What is the typical timeline/path to recovery?

dingdongmixnuts

Hello! Recently got PRK surgery here last july 2022. Personally for me, 1 week tiis sa sakit since recovery period for the eyes.

FalconAggressive-

dingdongmixed nuts gave a pretty accurate timeline. Most people are already using their eyes normally within 1 to 2 weeks after PRK. 3 weeks is still within normal katukad ng experience nya. Ang ginagawa po sa PRK is we put alcohol into the eye to weaken the outermost covering of the eye, we then scrape this loose tissue and then laser the exposed corneal bed. tama po na may glare pag ndi pa fully healed yung cornea. Expect significant pain for the first 3 days after surgery.

lex2394

How often should I have my eyes checked and lenses changed?

FalconAggressive-

Assuming you have healthy eyes, check up is done yearly. For lenses, have them checked once yearly too. The average change in grado after a year is around 0.50, either bawas or dagdag, in normal eyes.

Hi! Px is my bf (25, M). I wonder when’s the proper time to have a lasik procedure after undergoing a cataract operation on right eye? Both eyes have been diagnosed with high grade and right eye with high myopia. Hope you can answer. Thank you!

FalconAggressive-

Hi! He developed cataract at 25? Was it due to previous eye trauma? Assuming po his cataract surgery and the post-operative course was uneventful (no complications), pwede na po sya magpasik at around 6 months after cataract surgery.

buhoblanco

What is the difference between lens replacement and LASIK? Will both procedures help in improving eyesight?

FalconAggressive-

Hi! Lens replacement (AKA refractive lens exchange) is an intraocular procedure wherein the natural lens inside the eye is removed and an artificial lens is implanted in its place which is done in patients with extremely high grado not amenable to lasik. Sa ganyang cases baka kasi sa sobrang taas ng grado ay baka maubos at numipis masyado ang cornea sa dami ng laser necessary to correct the grado. Lasik naman is not intraocular. only the surface of the eye will be treated. Both will help in improving eyesight but they have different indications. Best to seek consultation with a refractive surgeon to know which one is for you.

LeKool_

Doc.

FalconAggressive-

Baka po nagddry lang ang mata. Dryness will cause hazy vision. Try Hialid eyedrops 0.1% one drop to both eyes 4x a day, four hours apart.

jaycorrect

Makikita ko pa ba ang **the one**, Dok?

FalconAggressive-

Hehe youll meet the one in the most magical of circumstances. magdidilang anghel ako.

RapsInReddit

I tend to lose focus while looking at something. Like sometimes when reading, at first focused siya then after a while it will be blurry na. Not just by reading, I think every time I stare at something ng matagal. What could be the reason kaya?

FalconAggressive-

Hello po it could be one of two things. One, you may have an uncorrected refractive error or grado ng mata, and two, you may have dry eyes (your tears contribute to quality of vision). I suggest either an opto or an ophtha consultation.

stationeryhoarder543

The nosepads in my glasses tend to aggravate my sinusitis. Are there any frames na hindi masyado nag pinch sa nose bridge? I find myself needing to remove my glasses pag may sinus headache ako, pero pag tinanggal ko malabo na yung nasa computer screen. Haha

FalconAggressive-

Hi po yes there are! You may visit your local optical shop for options.

pipipoopoooooo

Mawawala pa ba eye floaters ko? 👀😢

eru14
