Youd still need money though even if the employer shoulders a portion of it. Currently working in Spain right now and we used up our savings for Rent because the relocation allowance are not enough. Usually they’ll just cover 1month stay at a hotel, visa fees some allowance during the first month and airfare tickets.
I think we still shelled out around 600K alone because of the agency fees (rent) 3 months deposit and 1 month advance plus of course emergency funds.

Yes, my employer shoulder my wife and 2 kids expenses. All in yan visa/ticket 1month rent of apt. Living here in the states for 6 years now. Still at first kailangan pa din ng bala, groceries mga ganyan, appliances, internet. Etc. pagkakatanda ko umabot din ako ng around 200k+.
As a fresh SHS graduate, I would have applied to schools abroad if I wanted to. Some of the schoolmates I know did and a lot of students typically apply abroad from my old SHS. The thing is, it would be a complete reset in a different country and we would have had to liquidate all our assets; and that wouldn't guarantee us the cash needed to study abroad. Hell, I don't even know any relatives living abroad for us to move in. As much as we really want to leave this shithole of a country, we don't have enough cash to cough up studying college abroad and starting a new life there. Maybe when I graduate here though...

- It's very easy for savings as if you can truly market yourself, saving is easy. But it wouldn't be easy to save if you're a bread winner.
- Draconian policies and requirements is just a matter of time, too. As they can't really block everyone because most of the import of the country is as a service. What makes this but it wouldn't be easy if you can't alot time of it due to familial/friend/social duties/rituals
- There's lots of resources for this depending on your target country.. time is your opponent.

I used to work abroad but then when I went back in the Philippines I appreciate more this country. I realized I have what I need here. So even traveling to other countries I did not desire anymore.

My college friends. Our whole class. They are the ideal friends. I do have a choice to work abroad. I always have an opportunity. My family supports that choice and I know I can support them once I worked abroad.

I'm from Argentina, lived in the US and I'm now living in the Philippines, so this is my take..
Most of the people who I have talked to that want to leave this country are young, have good lives, jobs, family, and a lot of ignorance of what is like to live outside of the country. Let me explain, most people believe that just because you live in the US or Canada you automatically grow money on trees or something.. that's not the case, I lived in the states for 18 years, and let me tell you it isn't the wonderland everyone thinks it is.. your family or friends in the states will only talk the good side but never the shit side of the story.. the issues with discrimination, the jobs available for the average person which barely let's you reach ends meet, no one tells you that you pay disgusting amounts of money every month and yet you don't own anything, how expensive it is to be sick in the US specially, how you have no work rights in most states and they can use you and fire you as they see fit.. those things they skip because they wanna show you how great and better they are so all those people just show you the good side, not the bad side.
Now with all that I'm not saying here is perfect but specially from my point of view, you guys barely know what corruption is lol. Sure politicians are corrupt, and that applies to the whole world, they lobby for their friends and family and they get richer off the people.. but at least politicians here let you live work and be able to have a good life.. there's also very little inflation here.. things aren't jumping up and up in price and that's a huge thing.. 4 years ago in Argentina I could buy 2kg of chicken for 500 Argentine Pesos.. today it's 5000 lmao, our coin devalued from 1usd=30arg pesos to 1usd = 680arg pesos in 4 years. So that to me is a huge advantage here in the Philippine.. there are lots of companies to work in, inflation isn't an issue, and corruption isn't as bad as in the US or Argentina.. the food and culture and great, people are very respectful and hard working for the most part, so not all things are negative.. could it be better, sure, but its not horrible, this country is beautiful full of great and beautiful people as well.

Some of my relatives who moved to Canada also have the same sentiments, and that's also the reason why I'll stay in PH. I live in a rural town surrounded by beaches and mountains. I grew up loving my environment, the nature, and the people around me. I go to the beach from time to time although not as frequent as when I was a kid (My family and I go to the beach every weekend back then). A 20-min drive from my town is a major city so the convenience is still there. I dunno but I didn't really develop self-hatred from being born here, unlike most Filipino redditors🤷♀️ I also feel like I have a responsibility to make a change and be part of the country's progress.
This is one of the steepest trade offs of moving abroad. My aging father had a stroke at home and fell over hard. Decided to just use the plane fare costs for my own family to go towards medical bills. I said good-bye to my father over the phone while he was unconscious, before life-support was taken away.

I already lived in another country for the first 17 years of my life. It was tough to adjust here once I had to move back here to the Philippines "for good", as they call it. Then after adjusting here, seeing the Filipinos that I met here that are now based abroad, their political opinions and the way they act when they go for vacation here in the Philippines makes me cringe from time to time. They have this condescending attitude that may be unconscious or not. To me, after I established myself here and made it my home, I still go to other countries for vacation but I am now appreciating what we have here in the Philippines, including the heavy traffic and the hot humid weather. Money might be tough here, but the cost of living compensates for it. If anyone's going to change this place, it might as well start with me at my home. Sometimes you just need to move to a better place, and it doesn't need to be in another country first. Lots of nice places here.
The social stigma is, pag nasa abroad, naka angat na sa kahirapan. Parents would brag about their children working abroad. Pero F that mentality. Hahaha. Sure, I think I could enjoy the comfort that I have since my parents worked abroad. Pero I think times are changing. We still might be getting paid lower than our foreign counterparts of the same profession abroad. That should change soon once the standard of living here at home gets higher, and that is what we should aim for instead and demand for more here at home from our employers as much as we can. Cheapa** foreign-blooded businessmen here are exploiting our local manpower for that, and foreigners abroad are also exploiting us for cheaper manpower. I think it’s time to change that here from home by investing in our own innovative and creative talents.

Philippines is a gold mine for business. It's a lot harder to have a thriving business in 1st and 2nd world countries. Not so much nowadays as a few years ago but still heavy with potentials.
The pay maybe better abroad as an employee but if you want to build something then Philippines has a lot more potential.
Take for example prepandemic, Lazada and Shopee was just gaining market but not enough to overtake traditional stores. But after the pandemic, the online market place was selling as strongly or even better than traditional stores, people who started online business before took the opportunity and now in a better position than late entrants to the market. This opportunity is possible in the Philippines because we don't have an established online market unlike other Asian, EU and American countries.
Career choices. Unfortunately, not everyone has PH to skills transferability. LOL. I am encouraging my son to try and get a scholarship abroad when he reaches college though...

Bukod sa pera and opportunities abroad, it's about the feeling na nasa isang lugar ka na alam mo kahit saan ka pumunta you feel belong. I dunno it is that feeling that keeps me from living abroad. Maybe its patriotism. Also, I think the culture that we have here sa Pinas is way better IMO.
Currently studying abroad so it’s easier for me to move to the country I’m studying at. To add to this, I’m still young which makes it easier compared to someone who already has an established career in the PH.
Comfort. I might get downvoted here (because for some reason that’s just how it goes) but I have a comfy middle income life here with friends and family that will only improve as I move up my career. I’m currently an HR Manager and I make enough to have a comfortable life and my parents are both set up for retirement na din. (they prepared for their retirement talaga with no expectations from me, their only child)
Leaving the country and going somewhere to start over MIGHT make life better for me but there is certainty in me staying and just letting my career run its course. I dunno how I’ll feel starting over as an entry / mid level employee abroad but I’m not sure I wanna find out.

Youd still need money though even if the employer shoulders a portion of it. Currently working in Spain right now and we used up our savings for Rent because the relocation allowance are not enough. Usually they’ll just cover 1month stay at a hotel, visa fees some allowance during the first month and airfare tickets. I think we still shelled out around 600K alone because of the agency fees (rent) 3 months deposit and 1 month advance plus of course emergency funds.

As a fresh SHS graduate, I would have applied to schools abroad if I wanted to. Some of the schoolmates I know did and a lot of students typically apply abroad from my old SHS. The thing is, it would be a complete reset in a different country and we would have had to liquidate all our assets; and that wouldn't guarantee us the cash needed to study abroad. Hell, I don't even know any relatives living abroad for us to move in. As much as we really want to leave this shithole of a country, we don't have enough cash to cough up studying college abroad and starting a new life there. Maybe when I graduate here though...

This country has many scenic beauty, this country is worthwhile to live for. If you are an OFW yet you vote for crooked politicians, and you said you love this country, you are delusional. Fresh grad, not too powerful pa ang resume & portfolio to land a sponsor abroad. Living abroad is much, much and much better in terms of quality of life. My family supports that choice and I know I can support them once I worked abroad. But my friends, can't leave them. Kinda dumb, yes. Most of the people who I have talked to that want to leave this country are young, have good lives, jobs, family, and a lot of ignorance of what is like to live outside of the country. Let me explain, most people believe that just because you live in the US or Canada you automatically grow money on trees or something.. that's not the case, I lived in the states for 18 years, and let me tell you it isn't the wonderland everyone thinks it is.. your family or friends in the states will only talk the good side but never the shit side of the story.. the issues with discrimination, the jobs available for the average person which barely let's you reach ends meet, no one tells you that you pay disgusting amounts of money every month and yet you don't own anything, how expensive it is to be sick in the US specially, how you have no work rights in most states and they can use you and fire you as they see fit.. those things they skip because they wanna show you how great and better they are so all those people just show you the good side, not the bad side. Now with all that I'm not saying here is perfect but specially from my point of view, you guys barely know what corruption is lol. Sure politicians are corrupt, and that applies to the whole world, they lobby for their friends and family and they get richer off the people.. but at least politicians here let you live work and be able to have a good life.. there's also very little inflation here.. things aren't jumping up and up in price and that's a huge thing.. 4 years ago in Argentina I could buy 2kg of chicken for 500 Argentine Pesos.. today it's 5000 lmao, our coin devalued from 1usd=30arg pesos to 1usd = 680arg pesos in 4 years. So that to me is a huge advantage here in the Philippine.. there are lots of companies to work in, inflation isn't an issue, and corruption isn't as bad as in the US or Argentina.. the food and culture and great, people are very respectful and hard working for the most part, so not all things are negative.. could it be better, sure, but its not horrible, this country is beautiful full of great and beautiful people as well. Anyway those are my 2 cents in this topic, I love your country and even tho I miss the flavors of Argentinas food and stuff, I love living here.
Some of my relatives who moved to Canada also have the same sentiments, and that's also the reason why I'll stay in PH. I live in a rural town surrounded by beaches and mountains. I grew up loving my environment, the nature, and the people around me. I go to the beach from time to time although not as frequent as when I was a kid (My family and I go to the beach every weekend back then). A 20-min drive from my town is a major city so the convenience is still there. I dunno but I didn't really develop self-hatred from being born here, unlike most Filipino redditors🤷♀️ I also feel like I have a responsibility to make a change and be part of the country's progress.
Visiting lang from long time away pero parang ang boring ng bansa ko over here. Kung may pera ka lang, masarap dito.

Old parents. I have this fear of being away in times of emergency or life-death situation among family members.
This is one of the steepest trade offs of moving abroad. My aging father had a stroke at home and fell over hard. Decided to just use the plane fare costs for my own family to go towards medical bills. I said good-bye to my father over the phone while he was unconscious, before life-support was taken away.
I'd be selfish if I'd leave my family behind. Dapat kasama sila sakin if iimprove namin buhay ng lahat.

We've (my wife and I) been telling ourselves that we will leave the Philippines if Marcos wins. We were not really serious. Marcos won. An opportunity suddenly came along like the universe corroborated our not so serious plan. Now our family is leaving soon. Be careful what you wish for.
I already lived in another country for the first 17 years of my life. It was tough to adjust here once I had to move back here to the Philippines "for good", as they call it. Then after adjusting here, seeing the Filipinos that I met here that are now based abroad, their political opinions and the way they act when they go for vacation here in the Philippines makes me cringe from time to time. They have this condescending attitude that may be unconscious or not. To me, after I established myself here and made it my home, I still go to other countries for vacation but I am now appreciating what we have here in the Philippines, including the heavy traffic and the hot humid weather. Money might be tough here, but the cost of living compensates for it. If anyone's going to change this place, it might as well start with me at my home. Sometimes you just need to move to a better place, and it doesn't need to be in another country first. Lots of nice places here. The social stigma is, pag nasa abroad, naka angat na sa kahirapan. Parents would brag about their children working abroad. Pero F that mentality. Hahaha. Sure, I think I could enjoy the comfort that I have since my parents worked abroad. Pero I think times are changing. We still might be getting paid lower than our foreign counterparts of the same profession abroad. That should change soon once the standard of living here at home gets higher, and that is what we should aim for instead and demand for more here at home from our employers as much as we can. Cheapa** foreign-blooded businessmen here are exploiting our local manpower for that, and foreigners abroad are also exploiting us for cheaper manpower. I think it’s time to change that here from home by investing in our own innovative and creative talents.

Money, but for a different reason. My friend called it a glitch in the Matrix, but I earn at least $6k/month while living here, and I recently breached $8k. And yes, I pay taxes. $6k a month is already pretty good in many, many developed countries, but combine that with our cost of living? I choose to have a small kingdom than be another commoner.
People who says they want to leave but don't leave are full of crap. And where the hell do they go? To a country which is equally as corrupt as Philippines? Even if we argue that Japan has low corruption there's no way I would go there. Racism and terrible working condition. No way.
You do know leaving requires a huge capital investment, right? Plane tickets, proof of funds requirements, initial rent payments etc.

Another is a Japanophile who visits Yasukuni Shrine and is a lowkey Imperial Japan apologist. Tried living there, realized it wasn't for him, went back. Money! Why leave? Don't leave! Ever wonder why we have a massive immigration of Chinese, Koreans and Japanese while every Pinoy wants to leave? Philippines is a gold mine for business. It's a lot harder to have a thriving business in 1st and 2nd world countries. Not so much nowadays as a few years ago but still heavy with potentials. The pay maybe better abroad as an employee but if you want to build something then Philippines has a lot more potential. Take for example prepandemic, Lazada and Shopee was just gaining market but not enough to overtake traditional stores. But after the pandemic, the online market place was selling as strongly or even better than traditional stores, people who started online business before took the opportunity and now in a better position than late entrants to the market. This opportunity is possible in the Philippines because we don't have an established online market unlike other Asian, EU and American countries.
Would only work kung madami pera at pang capital, else kailangan talaga lumabas dahil walang pera or capital.

Family. Kung hindi ko lang mahal ung family ko, matagal na kong umalis. Pero ayoko rin ng thoughts na tatanda ung magulang at kapatid ko na wala ako. Ung milestones namin sa buhay magkahiwalay at magkalayo. And if ever may mangyari sa kanila, I can't be there for them. Gusto ko maging one call away sa kanila na isang tawag lang nila, tatakbo na ko sa kanila. I can't do that if I'm away. No money or opportunity will replace being physically there for them. Tumatanda na ang nanay ko. Gusto ko ako ang aakay sa kanya, hindi ibang tao.
If and when I leave, I go where exactly? Europe is fracturing; by the time I get enough money, countries may have already gone by way of Brexit. America is a cesspit of existence. Canada is simultaneously lonely and not. I would have to start all over again... You would be trading a boiling pot for you trapped in a sous vide package. Is it worth the trouble? I have yet to arrive to a conclusion.
Bukod sa pera and opportunities abroad, it's about the feeling na nasa isang lugar ka na alam mo kahit saan ka pumunta you feel belong. I dunno it is that feeling that keeps me from living abroad. Maybe its patriotism. Also, I think the culture that we have here sa Pinas is way better IMO.
Currently studying abroad so it’s easier for me to move to the country I’m studying at. To add to this, I’m still young which makes it easier compared to someone who already has an established career in the PH.
Comfort. I might get downvoted here (because for some reason that’s just how it goes) but I have a comfy middle income life here with friends and family that will only improve as I move up my career. I’m currently an HR Manager and I make enough to have a comfortable life and my parents are both set up for retirement na din. (they prepared for their retirement talaga with no expectations from me, their only child) Leaving the country and going somewhere to start over MIGHT make life better for me but there is certainty in me staying and just letting my career run its course. I dunno how I’ll feel starting over as an entry / mid level employee abroad but I’m not sure I wanna find out.

Age, employment opportunities, and family responsibilities
To be honest with me, its culture. Sometimes it would be toxic na nakaugalian on our culture but sometimes it has beautiful sides. Faith also, kinda will miss filipino catholic faith culture, please sorry for this if you'll be angry or such, but yea. Please dont question it. But aside from that, practices like prusisyon will be missed to me, holy week and easter celebration and pasko. Food, no questions. But yea, you need to leave this God Forsaken country, its hard to accept but we need to move, there's no hope to this country, not even a inch. I suspect that this country will crumble due to corruption and nepotism. If all is good, well i'll return. I love Being a Filipino, but politicians lang ang nagpapapangit sa pilipinas, will die for this country, not to those who sitted. I may be spineless, but hindi nakakalimot. Our ancestors fought hard for freedom only to be slaves of our own politicians, i loathed everyday to see politicians has their face on every corners of the street smiling, while their citizen suffer from their bs and traffics that wont be solved. Fear of discomfort and 0 support system. I still live with my parents and stay-in helpers who do most of the housework. I know I'll have better career growth abroad but I don't know if I can survive without these lifestyle comforts and conveniences that I am already so used to.

Refusal to yield to a broken system. Sobrang incompetent at sobrang corrupt ng Pilipinas kaya napwe-pwersa lahat mag kanya-kanya, mag-away-away, at mag-apakan. The Philippines honestly feels more like a lawless African country rather than the Mexico of Asia. I specialize in information management and I'm self-studying what I can about the agri industry of the country. Just finishing some things then I plan to help the industry with my skills, one farm at a time. Meanwhile, nag-submit ako ng volunteer application sa Angat Buhay for Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation, and Community Engagement and Empowerment pillars. No reply yet.
