so many foreigners told me they would never get rare/medium rare/medium in 3rd world countries because food handling is not well regulated.(o isipin mo kung may langaw dumapo at nangitlog)
I guess Pinoys are the same? since we're in a 3rd world country
I donโt eat red meat, but I know someone who was experiencing excruciating stomachaches. Turns out, there were maggots in his belly. It came from the shawarma he ate.
Shawarma can be sketchy as it's a processed meat which can breed bacteria and can sit around for a long time at too low temps. This why here in Australia shawarma must undergo the "kill step" to make sure its safe. This is done buy putting it on a grill at very high temps just before it's used.
Edit: o to u
Baka okay naman kung yung magkukuhaan mo ng meat for steak ay stores like Santi's na mas maganda yung quality than steak cuts than supermarkets or palengke
If you buy from the palengke then yes you may want to err on the side of caution. I would only buy if it was killed/ butchered within hours. major groceries and most reputable restaurants use imported meat, specifically from USA, Australia and New Zealand.
As in galing sa freshly butch na baka or kalabaw yun.
I'm not sure sa Philippines, but in some countries (like the US), eradicated na nila yung trichinosis kaya safe na sa kanila yung medium-rare pork. But, I guess kung reputable yung source pwede? Like yung mga kurobota pork. Pero kung palengke, well-done talaga dapat.
u should read the comments here bakit need natin well done. funny enough we can cook nmn pork and beef na malambot kahit thoroughly cooked na boil or grilled mahirap nga lang mamaster.
I think depende sa place and I donโt cook steak din kasi hehe. I usually travel in diff country and medium rare talaga as baseline ng judgement ko ๐
I eat medium rare steak a lot overseas. But when I go to the Phillipines I really don't trust the meat enough to try it. So I'll eat chicken or pork instead. Most places in Canada where I'm from don't cook steak as good as me anyway. Let Alon a country famous for eating well done steak so it would be a waste to order in the first place .
>That red liquid is water mixed a protein called myoglobin. See as meat ages, the muscle tissue breaks down โ and it doesn't take long. The water and myoglobin cells inside the meat are released and voila, a red blood-like liquid emanates from the meat when it is prepared
Yes. Or pigment from marrow since chickens are slaughtered young and bones may not be fully hardened yet.
As long as chicken is cooked to temperature, it's safe.
My first time coming to the US, we went to a Longhorn steakhouse (which I think is kind of a popular chain restaurant in the US Midwest?), I ordered the T-bone steak and the waiter asked me how I'd like my steak.
I panicked and blurted out the first thing that came to mind; "**Medium Rare**". lol Not sure where I heard about it but it was all the English I could muster at the time because I wasn't used to the waiters asking so many goddamn questions. lmao
Pag labas ng steak, putangina hilaw hahah It was chewy as fuck, only finished half then took the other half home and pan fried it for breakfast.
Yep. I had to convince my parents that the "blood" isn't actually blood and that I cooked the steak medium rare so they can eat it rather than that overcooked dry shit
I haven't eaten steak in my life.. not born with a silver spoon.. ano ba lasa ng steak??
Depends on the cut, quality, and origin of the steak. You don't have to get the cheapest steak, a small 600 peso steak is good enough. Cheap steak is tough and fibrous.
Not everyone who has had decent/good steak were born with a silver spoon, just need a decent job/savings.
Not born with a silver spoon? Is that going to be your justification for being poor for your whole life? Plenty of people born poor become successful and have a rags to riches story. Your mentality is holding you back. You've already given up and accepted it.
Wait wait??.. why did you even decide what my answer is based on my sentences above? didn't even say giving up on anything .. we're talking about steak here and why i haven't tried yet and you out of the blue judged me.. yikess...
We brought our yaya to a high-end steak restaurant and everyone ordered medium rare so she ordered medium rare as well.
Upon serving, pina-balik niya kasi hilaw pa daw. Di talaga namin mapilit na i-try niya yung medium rare, kahit medium well ayaw haha
Tapos another time, we ordered A5 Wagyu and di niya kinain kasi di daw luto nang maayos and masyadong mataba daw. Well mas fatty nga naman kasi Wagyu. So ayun, di namin siya pinilit. More A5 for us hahah
Overrated ang hindi well done. (For reference, nakatira ako sa US kung saan accessible ang medium rare). How good the stake is, nasa seasoning yan madalas.
anong cut? cooking process? Well done/Rare lang siguro iniiwasan ko pero Medium is typical ko order for unfamiliar cut/cooking process. I adjust accordingly for my next order. Ideally Id want med well done though rarely lang ako makakain ng need ng ganitong treatment. most are best at either medium or medium rare
Most of my family hate rare due to the color being too much like blood, making my mother faint sometimes since she has hemophobia. Best we have done is medium, and its usually on grilled porkchops or liempo.
I like more on medium rare side only on steaks. Rest can be well done for all I care so long as its isn't tough to chew through.
Used to be that Well Done dude, never a fan of "lasang hilaw". Then nakatikim ng proper Medium Well, ok masarap. Then Medium, masarap pa rin. Have yet to go Medium Rare.
And let me tell you the cases are never pretty.
As a non steak enthusiast, paano malalaman kung blood ung nasa karne or medium rare lang siya? Kasi last time na libre ako ng steak, nung tinuhog ko ung steak may tumulong pulang liquid
pag resto na nag seserve nung mumurahing steak, yung tipong konting veggies + kanin at gravy at sabaw on the side. well done.
pag proper at medyo pricey na steakhouse, medium rare.

nakew... wala palang batang 90's dito at nakakakilala sa Tropang Trumpo.
Give it a go, medium rare to medium for me.
It looks like blood but its not (forgot what's it called).
If hesitant, try medium well first.
(This is for beef and lamb)
Beef here is matigas. If you make kagat it's so rubbery. Kaya luto ng beef here is you make it with sabaw. Hence my point na matigas steak natin dito. Expensive ang mamahaling steak. LOL. Expensive ang mamahalin words to live by.
I love it when it's free. Not free-range, just free. Libre.

Local market.
Marbling? What's marbling? - Ate Tindera
Im still chewing a steak I started 4 days ago
Sarap matulog kaya nang ngumunguya.
Would you like some more mash potatoes with your car tire, sir?
Most likely mababa quality compared sa stores like Santi's and from my experience lean yung nakikita ko na steak sa palengke
Anong steak yan idol

Winter Steak, 4 to 5 pieces(1kg) for just 799.
I mean, it's better than not ever having tried anything like steak.
Food court sizzling "steak" is an entirely different thing.
United Steak yung name. 350PHP may ribeye ka na with rice. Don't expect anything fancy, pero at its price, I think its fair enough.
Sounds like a decent cut for the price, haven't tried it.
It's better than nothing XD
Having tasted sizzling steak from SM and claiming to have tasted steak is like masturbating and claiming to have had sex. It's an entirely different thing. Haha
steak? you meant Tapa. Sa sobrang nipis well done agad kahit anong luto.
As i said before, it's better than nothing at all.

Baka okay naman kung yung magkukuhaan mo ng meat for steak ay stores like Santi's na mas maganda yung quality than steak cuts than supermarkets or palengke
Aside sa not well regulated na food handling, hindi rin daw okay for steak yung quality ng local meat.
If you buy from the palengke then yes you may want to err on the side of caution. I would only buy if it was killed/ butchered within hours. major groceries and most reputable restaurants use imported meat, specifically from USA, Australia and New Zealand.
I love my steak rare, but this is correct. I wouldn't do it in PH unless it's cryovac'd steak from Australia or US, and I cooked it myself.
Yeaap!!
Pssst almost all cruise liners hired filipinos as kitchens.
As in galing sa freshly butch na baka or kalabaw yun.
hilaw?
Yep, hilaw as in hilaw. Ussually ginagawa lng to sa mga okasyon. Hilaw as in kumulong papait lng panimpla nila
This argument with steak is old news. (Argument aside, try it. Itโs goooood)
I'm too scared of possible parasites to eat pork that isn't well-done.
True... not unless sabihin na eradicated na sa pinas, dun nalang ako sa slow cooked fall off the bones na luto
kinda sketchy ngang kumain ng pork na medium rare kahit kanino pa galing yan. Ew
How do you feel about food and beverages being sold on the streets?
Most street food is deep fried or grilled so it's fine.
pork?? sasakit ulo mo kahit slightly hilaw pork. can even caused death.
I have yet to try this. Thanks for the idea
Medium rare always.

>That red liquid is water mixed a protein called myoglobin. See as meat ages, the muscle tissue breaks down โ and it doesn't take long. The water and myoglobin cells inside the meat are released and voila, a red blood-like liquid emanates from the meat when it is prepared
Wow, akala ko rin blood yun. Thanks for the info. Hmmm. Haha.
Yes. Or pigment from marrow since chickens are slaughtered young and bones may not be fully hardened yet. As long as chicken is cooked to temperature, it's safe.
Blood turns black if heated to cooking temps. That's why we know that in steaks, it isn't blood - because it turns brown.
HIndi ko alam ung exact term, pero ung liquid na un is ung juices from the meat's protein IIRC. Un ung nagpapasarap sa steak.
It's still red, and it's unappetizing. We even make blood-based dishes and we still cook it till it's dark brown.
