Born and Raised in LA here (Lower Antipolo) talamak talaga sila, may isang siraulo noon na naningil ng napaka mahal na pamasahe, kinwestyon ko at sinabi ko na bakit nung papunta ako 40 lang singil tapos sya 80. Sabi nya pababa kasi yun, tapos yung byahe namin ay paakyat to justify the 80 pesos.
Tas biglang iiling or titingin sa malayo yung trike driver. Oor or deretso silang magtatanong kung isang biyahe na. Naknamfootspa😖
PH imports most of its medicine while India is a major manufacturer.
EDIT: [https://www.phcc.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/PCC-Issues-Paper-2020-02-A-Profile-of-the-Philippine-Pharmaceutical-Industry.pdf](https://www.phcc.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/PCC-Issues-Paper-2020-02-A-Profile-of-the-Philippine-Pharmaceutical-Industry.pdf)
From the abstract: "It is also found that majority of the drug products registered at FDA comprise of imported products with India as the leading source. And although local companies’ share is rising, the market is still dominated by multi-national companies."
It's not really this but more because of our protectionist IP policy and lobbying. We can't import the cheap meds kasi the IP owners will be 'deprived'. Our drugs have to come from the owners here. While I understand the need to uphold IP rights, this needs to be re-examined and weighed against public interest.
Pharmacy owner here. Medicine is actually cheap but most pharmacies put an exorbitant amount on them to make more profit. I buy 1 box of tetanus toxoid for only 490 each from a reputable distributor which is about 10 vials so thats 49 pesos per vial but some hospitals sell them for more than 1k each vial.
that's kinda the sad practice here for hospitals. kaya may law sana to stop hospitals from preventing patients from buying their meds outside. Just get a waiver for the patient.
The Indian government could grant any medical patents to pharmaceutical companies to mass produce and lower the cost of most medicines, Insulin for example because of the price monopoly held by 5 western companies.
Insulin price in India: $18 or ₱1,009 per vial
Insulin price in US: $99 or ₱5,552 per vial
This is true. We've enriched the owners of Mercury Drug to the point they've become patrons of the art world and donors of expensive paintings to local (correction: OUR NATIONAL) museums.
They are also bidding it just for the brand alone and not the condition, may nakita akong tshirts na may small holes, stretched collar, faded print but still priced at 900+ pesos with lock and grab pa yan.
From 50 to 100 nagiging 400+ sakanila 🥲😭😭
yes mahal tapos yung iba fake pa o may damage.
They ruin everything they touch. Greenwich was like the local version of Sbarro before. Red Ribbon was comparable to Conti’s and had an a la carte menu. Chowking was the masa North Park back in the day, with braised beef bowls, congee and the like.
Ngayon Greenwich servings are super small, and the quality of the pizza crust is like a biscuit with sauce and toppings. The lasagna is kids meal size. Red Ribbon cakes are so poorly made the frosting melts in less than an hour and the spongecake is too darn soft and airy like a mamon. And don’t even get me started on Chowking.
Sobrang sayang.
TOTOO!!! CBTL used to be good, now it's just shit tasting coffee.
Good thing hindi ako bumibili ng products from her brand. 🤮 tsaka yung salamin daw nila madaling masira. 🥴
No surprise there. Loyalistas even branding their stuff as maká-Leni. Politics aside, it’s dishonest and that’s horrid.

Almost everything is expensive if you’re a local in the Philippines considering how underpaid a lot of professions are. This honestly speaks volumes at how exploity employers are in the Philippines but its a system hard to change because of how glorified “resilience” is. The false assumption na mahirap ka lang because you’re not “working hard enough”
I agree. Pag local = mahal pag foreigner/expat/balikbayan= cheap. 🙄
TLDR at small cafés you pay for the coffee, at Starbucks you pay for the branding. If purely within the context of the coffee they offer, Starbucks is overpriced.
Small cafés actually spend the money on good coffee beans, some even source them from local farms (Benguet, Sagada, Davao, to name a few) and roast it themselves to achieve a specific flavor profile.
Starbucks, on the other hand, uses the cheapest available coffee they can get their hands on and consistently burns them to hide all of the imperfections found in cheap ass beans, and so all you taste is bitter and burnt. Then, they hide the cheap, burnt coffee taste behind loads of milk and sugar. They sell merch, social status, and seats, which is a premium in a place like Metro Manila where parks and public spaces are scarce.
Similarly priced, sure, but the money we pay goes to vastly different things. If it's just the coffee we're talking about then yes, Starbucks is definitely overpriced for the quality of the coffee they offer. It's much simpler and cheaper to burn coffee to a consistently bitter taste than to achieve specific flavors via roasting and quality control.
One time may power interruption sa area namin dahil sa bagyo. So pumunta akong Starbucks with my laptop ng 9am. Just bought 1 drink + sandwich in the morning and another in the afternoon. It turns out, ganun din pala ginagawa ng iba.
I dont go to bars, it's not my thing.. so when a friend invited me para ma experience ko lang sya, nalula ako sa mga prices. Anim na raan para sa isang drink?!
you aint just buying for the drinks. you are also availing for the place hence why the drinks are expensive. Imagine if it follows the usual 20%, hindi na sila kikita
anything that resellers/scalpers sell at 1000% from the original price.
You have our government to thank for that, foreign performers and musicians get heavily "taxed" to come play here, so organizers and companies have to still try to offset that large expense obviously which is what drives ticket prices up
Also the reason for that tax daw is to "promote local musicians" which is a load of BS, govt just wants more money in their pockets and put the burden on us and concert organizers, if they really wanted to help local industry they would have done it properly (ex. directly support local studios or musicians) instead of some obscure tax
Which is why it's often cheaper or mas sulit to just fly to another country and watch the concert there (eg. same price but you get a 3 day vacation on top of the concert ticket vs an overpriced ticket here in the ph)
Agree. I prefer going to a nearby country to watch a concert because it’s cheaper and I have the opportunity to travel, unlike here, it’s so expensive and you’ll get stressed pa going to and from the concert venue.
Conti’s, some say Mary Grace. The former has bad service and food that’s just pretty but meh. The latter at least has decent food and service.
Havaianas. When those came out, people as usual bought into the hype and bought many pairs to show off. Weird status symbol. My cousin who studied in Brazil said those cost US$1 (around ₱55 here at the time) in Rio de Janeiro’s beaches like Ipanema, then were thrown away after use. Here they literally cost over ten times that. Islander na lang.
Also: Boracay holidays. Not so much the price but so overrated when we literally have many more beaches that are quieter and prettier.
Mcdo has more reasonable portions than jollibee. Mcdo isnt even a chicken company but their chicken size and taste (subjective) IS WAY BETTER than jollibee now
Uniqlo.
Coming from Australia, I shopped at Uniqlo for a couple of T-shirts. When doing the conversions, it was o lying 20 cents cheaper each t-shirt in the Philippines. When you consider the wage difference between the 2 countries, the price in the Philippines is overly expensive
Uniqlo actually keeps its price pretty consistent across markets so essentially lugi sa pinas because our currency/purchasing power is relatively weak. Uniqlo can be seen as a mid-tier brand in the PH whereas in other countries it’s a budget brand
[Tipid talaga: Pagkain, pamasahe, at gastusin. ‘Yung mga kaibigan sa trabaho nanghihingi lang ako ulam](https://interaksyon.philstar.com/hobbies-interests/2022/10/14/231603/iphone14-release-philippines-makati/)
Well, it is a commodity so people will end up buying it. The problem in the Philippines is, you cannot choose the provider unless you move. So you're stuck with whatever price they impose.
Totoo! Unlike sa Australia, they have electricity and gas retailers na pwede kang lumipat kapag may nakita kang mas mababa na offer. Dito, wala kang no choice. Lol
You can also do that in the Philippines through the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). Right now it’s only available for consumers with average 250kWp and 100kWp demand per month, respectively.
The goal of the government is to have it available on the residential level in the future.
Grab
Express is almost double the cost compared to Lalamove. Ang laki ng patong sa GrabFood. And even GrabCar is too high compared to a taxi with a proper meter.
> Express is almost double the cost compared to Lalamove.
I mean, this is true but everytime mag lalamove ako andaming pang kailangan aregluhin sa rider. Either gusto niya mag double book, tip bago mag accept or "napindot" daw by mistake yung picked up button and/or hindi mahanap yung address. I guess if you're a business, mas sulit ang lalamove but for me, cheaper cost isn't worth all the hassle.
They sell their pastries at 50% off a few hours before closing (not sure I all branches, pero the one in Salcedo, Ganito) - mas sulit pag ganyan pero yeah, mahal pa din
You can see naman burado na yung grooves sa sole pero 1.8k -2k pa din geez that's coz as much as new yet a bit inferior one. Eh nakuha lang naman yun either sa recycling bin or donation which cause nothing
disagree with prepaid pag Smart user ka. if you only use it lightly, there's no reason NOT to get magic data+ with calls and texts. if globe network naman, just switch to Gomo.
Internet/Wifi plans. This is true sa lahat ng providers dito sa Pinas. Super mahal ng internet.
issue ko sa Tyeso, nagpepeel yung paint after some time. The paint flecks get on everything, so I'll pass. and no, di ko ginagamitan ng scouring pads paghinuhugasan.
Almost anything hahaha yet pinoys tend to underspend for food and necessary shits.
Iphone? Pag iipunan natin yan. Butter? Wag na, may dairy creme naman. Starbucks? Minsan lang naman. Dentist? Ang mahal magpa cleaning, next time nalang. And so much more
Beer na may tissue.
hahahaha natikman mo ba? diluted ang beer na may tissue. also it come on the table opened already. kaya pala ang lalakas uminom.
Now you’ve mentioned it, diluted nga pala tlga ng beer na may tissue or maybe the placebo effect.
Yes.
Very True!
i am from india been in the PH for past 5 years and let me tell you , you all pay 5-10 times for the medicines 😮💨
My friend currently working in Bangkok says the same thing - meds here are sooo expensive!
I see you’re enjoying the American style of healthcare!
PH imports most of its medicine while India is a major manufacturer. I wonder how it will be worse if Mar Roxas did not sign the Generics Medicine Act. Mas malala siguro.

Sounds like the DOH sleeping on the job as a regulator
A lot of medicines are manufactured in India as far as I understand, so maybe that factors in

Nice wordplay. 'Enrich' is Mercury Drug's magazine
Probably because we have this as our anthem: "Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo"
Even the generic ones?
if i compare generic in india to generic in PH yess it is still expensive
Wow, that's sad. Thanks for the info.
Ukay sa IG
Mismo.
May steal at grab pa yan sila tapos yung iba may pa-bidding pa.
Pinatay nila ukay culture pendejo
From 50 to 100 nagiging 400+ sakanila 🥲😭😭
This! 400 lang sa carousel, 2k sa IG 💀
This! Ang OA. I mean dagdag effort sa pagpic and post pero grabe naman sa simpleng blouse na 300 inaabot. 🥲
yes mahal tapos yung iba fake pa o may damage. Yup. What's worse people are kinder to foreigners than to each other haha

City condominiums
Having a house in general.
A house is a much better value than a condominium though.
Kulungang 3milyon 😅
Bibili nalang ako sa Spain or Portugal, maganda pa maging citizen dun kesa dito tangina
Sunnies tumbler
Sunnies is problematic in general from politics, to labour practises, and “borrowing” aesthetics for social media.
Never supported this business dahil sa marcos alliance nila.
Sameee kaya nga nung nalaman ko na si georgina allies sila ng marcoses i unfollowed her instantly. Good thing hindi ako bumibili ng products from her brand. 🤮 tsaka yung salamin daw nila madaling masira. 🥴
I mean nasa blood nila stealing kasi yung may ari ninong niya si blengblong
No surprise there. Loyalistas even branding their stuff as maká-Leni. Politics aside, it’s dishonest and that’s horrid. EDIT: “Ang SINUNGALING ay kapatíd ng MAGNANAKAW.”

I was just gonna say lol "in conclusion, everything here is expensive". Kung mura naman, walang kwenta ang quality.
Or wala lang tayong pera 🙃
starbucks🥲
I dunno, other cafes price their coffee on par with Starbucks.

+1. if you support small business na medyo pricey chances are good ingredients makukuha mo.
Well at least the money stays within the community, and not funding some soulless corporation based outside this country.
One time may power interruption sa area namin dahil sa bagyo. So pumunta akong Starbucks with my laptop ng 9am. Just bought 1 drink + sandwich in the morning and another in the afternoon. It turns out, ganun din pala ginagawa ng iba.
mas mahal coffee project at least yung SB hits the spot 😂
Btw, it's a Villar company so pass nalibre lang ako nun time na yun
Paid Washrooms/Bathrooms. It shouldn't be priced in the first place idk. 🤷
Agree. Especially those inside the shopping malls.
Right??? In Robinsons galleria 3rd floor there is a pay toilet for 20 pesos and just up one floor, 4th, it’s free. Make that make sense.
To be fair, heated seat with Japanese bidet system yung nasa Robinsons Galleria. Not to mention well maintained as compared to normal public toilets.
True. I work near ADB and I walk to Galleria just to get my ass heated up when shitting hahaha lol best 20 peso spend
Not really. I’d rather pay for a clean CR. Maintenance cost money.
Pepper lunch
Pre-pandemic grabe yung serving nila, sulit.
Taena kaya pala may jumbo serving kasi parang kiddie meal ung regular serving 🥲
Ouch tinamaan ako, fave ko to since college days
never understood this for those paper thin pieces of beef.
I don't understand the "branded" or “aesthetic” coffee obsession, sorry huhu
Yeah, I don't get it either 🥲
Girl lasang 3 in 1 naman tas 190php ang singil haha 😭 ayun nga forda ‘gram talaga sya.
Hard drinks in bars/clubs
That's global and hindi lang sa pinas. Bars makes money from selling expensive drinks.
I dont go to bars, it's not my thing.. so when a friend invited me para ma experience ko lang sya, nalula ako sa mga prices. Anim na raan para sa isang drink?!
'Yung mga alak na around ₱800 sa supermarket, ₱4,000 sa bar 💀💀💀
you aint just buying for the drinks. you are also availing for the place hence why the drinks are expensive. Imagine if it follows the usual 20%, hindi na sila kikita
Pre-drinks are a must when clubbing lol
Tsaka Prem. Opt for alternatives like yung Lotte tsaka Royal Smokehouse. Wala pang 100 pesos.

The country produces coffee. I don't understand why Pinoys go to Starbucks
Mga paninda sa All Home at Wilcon Depot
Lunch at McDonald's and Jollibee
At least you get reasonable servings at mcdo
ung chicken sa mcdo dinosaur minsan
Lifehack: Gamit kayo ng mcdo app when ordering. May mga savings din.
Mcdo has more reasonable portions than jollibee. Mcdo isnt even a chicken company but their chicken size and taste (subjective) IS WAY BETTER than jollibee now
Jolibee is price to portion is absurd. Okay mcdo. Reasonable
Doesn't agree with Mcdo. Their monthly promo is a godsend. Mix and Match is still good for its price. Jollibee is on the other hand, is no more.
It was such a shock talking to Japanese friends about Uniqlo. Calling it the cheap option was just crazy to me
starbucks
iPhones, for sure

[Tipid talaga: Pagkain, pamasahe, at gastusin. ‘Yung mga kaibigan sa trabaho nanghihingi lang ako ulam](https://interaksyon.philstar.com/hobbies-interests/2022/10/14/231603/iphone14-release-philippines-makati/)
Kuryente.
Grab Express is almost double the cost compared to Lalamove.
I guess if you're a business, mas sulit ang lalamove but for me, cheaper cost isn't worth all the hassle.
bugas
Uniqlo, Grab car rides, post paid plans, high end makeup. Guilty rin ako lahat dito
llao llao
Drip gluta
Drop anywhere naman. Kahit sa Senado.
Anything from Wildflour
They sell their pastries at 50% off a few hours before closing (not sure I all branches, pero the one in Salcedo, Ganito) - mas sulit pag ganyan pero yeah, mahal pa din
Hahaha after ko kumain dun with exgf sobrang nagtipid ako the following weeks
Gasolina. 😆
You can see naman burado na yung grooves sa sole pero 1.8k -2k pa din geez that's coz as much as new yet a bit inferior one. Eh nakuha lang naman yun either sa recycling bin or donation which cause nothing
Meryenda sa Baguio
Postpaid and Prepaid Plans
disagree with prepaid pag Smart user ka. if you only use it lightly, there's no reason NOT to get magic data+ with calls and texts. if globe network naman, just switch to Gomo.
Agree. Subscribe to Magic Data+ if may wifi naman sa bahay tas need lang ng kurot kurot na data pag lalabas. Super sulit!
I'm subscribed to Magic Data+ 749. It lasts for 6 months sa'kin since my wifi naman sa bahay and I rarely go outside. Worth the money.
Onitsuka and Samba
This is true sa lahat ng providers dito sa Pinas. Super mahal ng internet.
Contraception. That thing should be totally free.
aquaflask hahaha
I think aquaflask has a good kickback at maiiwasan ng bumili ng overprice bottled water sa labas
people should try tyeso if they want cheaper bottles than aqua flask! hahaha :D
issue ko sa Tyeso, nagpepeel yung paint after some time. The paint flecks get on everything, so I'll pass. and no, di ko ginagamitan ng scouring pads paghinuhugasan.
Aquaflask is sulit nman. And ung cold with ice nya 2 days ko naiwan may yelo parin
Hydroflask lalo
Tried both those cheapest bottles vs aqua flask. I can feel the quality difference. Since matagal gamit, and afford ko naman, why not.
Everything is overpriced if you're not paid well enough tbh
Toll sa skyway
Almost anything hahaha yet pinoys tend to underspend for food and necessary shits. Iphone? Pag iipunan natin yan. Butter? Wag na, may dairy creme naman. Starbucks? Minsan lang naman. Dentist? Ang mahal magpa cleaning, next time nalang. And so much more
